Photoshop CS5 sometimes won't save to server

Hi, my office is having an issue saving previously created PS files to the server. This issue occurs seemingly at random times. When we do get the issue we need to save to the desktop and then replace that file over the one still on the server. Not an ideal solution.
All of our files are stored on a Snow Leopard XServe and we work on 2009 model Mac Pro's running Leopard. We intend to upgrade to Snow Leopard but have not done so yet.
The Mac Pro that is the main offender's specs are as follows:
Adobe Photoshop CS5 12.0
OS 10.5.8
2x 2.8 Quad Core
8GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Graphics Card
If you could shed any light on what may be causing this issue that would be great.
cheers,
David.

Like Mr.Cox implied, when it comes to working across a network with Photoshop: »Just say no.«
Or be prepared for unpleasant surprises.
I myself still often do just that, but mainly on smaller files and I am aware of the risks and rely on our back-up in case of mishaps.
Now I know some of my colleagues have a hard time grasping the matter, because »it always used to work back when with Photoshop version whatever« – but that is irrelevant.
Adobe clearly advises against the practice and it seems understandable to me; just consider the possible number of combinations of server- and station-hard- and software (applications and OS).
The testing process to ensure perfect functionality for all those combinations would probably have to be really lengthy.

The ScriptingSupport.8li that comes with Photoshop CS5.1 should have the module version 12.1.0.0 as well.
It sounds as if you have done something where you have mixed modules from an older version of Photoshop (CS3) into those that Photoshop CS5 is enumerating during startup.
Did you, by chance, copy the entire contents of a folder (e.g. plug-ins or scripts) and get extra files you didn't intend?
Have you set an Extra plug-ins folder up to point to the plug-ins for an earlier version of Photoshop?
Mixing up versions of Photoshop is a no-no.
You may want to start by clearing your Photoshop  preferences...  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediate after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're quick enough, and you have to be VERY quick to get the keys down, it will prompt you to confirm deletion of the preferences it already has set up, which will then cause it to use defaults.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 won't read raw files from Canon EOS M

Photoshop cs5.1 won't read raw files from canon eosM, what to do?

The EOS M requires at least Camera Raw 7.2 but Raw 7.2 is only compatible with CS6 or higher (CS5 is only compatible up to Raw 6.7)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
To open and edit Raw files, either upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud and get the CC version.
Alternatively convert the Raw files from the EOS M to DNGs using the free DNG converter then edit the DNGs in CS5.1

  • Photoshop CS5.1 Won't Load Images On Screen at retina MacBook pro.

Photoshop CS5.1 Won't Load Images On Screen at retina MacBook pro. Any help? Thanks!

I'm surprised that Apple would attempt such a "hack" design...  Switching graphics adapters mid-stream is no small task, and I can't imagine that they could ever make it work seamlessly.
Keep in mind that the nature of the complex GPU beast is that graphics hardware doesn't all work the same (or right) and application software has to make decisions about what to do and what not to do, and even when to invoke certain workarounds - or it would never be possible to run on multiple platforms.
Yes, that seems wrong, but it's necessary and it makes developing cutting-edge graphics applications in the real world much more expensive.
The decisions aren't re-made by an application all the time - that would slow things down terribly.  Instead, often the run-time environment is characterized at application startup and the features remembered for later use.  Modern applications actually even create programs (e.g., shaders or OpenCL programs) to run on specific GPU hardware, and they have to be compiled - something usually done by the application at startup.
Now imagine that someone changes the capabilities of the graphics hardware completely after the application has started - even from one vendor's implementation to another (Intel to nVidia).
Like I said, I'm surprised a reasonable system designer could ever think that swapping GPUs at run-time could be made to work.  At least Apple allows you to turn it off!
Does Apple offer any "geek-level" configuration options that can force the use of a particular GPU for a given application?  It seems that this could be an automated workaround that would allow a given application to see only one GPU, which is what Photoshop appears to need here.

  • Why photoshop cs5.5 won't open on yosemite?

I have photoshop cs5.5 (installed on a macbook air running on yosemite), it had been working perfectly and suddenly it won't open. I get a message: "install flash player" (already done, as well as having installed the java se6 /2014 runtime and installed and uninstalled photoshop itself several times) but the only thing I see is that never-ending spinning color wheel. I've been through many threads and forums but haven't found a solution to it. It's worth mentioning that it only happens with photoshop, as i'm able to work fine with other adobe apps (illustrator, in design, bridge, etc)
Does anyone know what might have happened and a possible solution?

Without proper system info such as what Mac and what version of OSX nobody can say much and the logs from your Log Viewer would also help. Well, whatever. As a start run teh cleaner tool and reinstal lthe software.

  • Downloaded camera Raw 8.7 and photoshop CS5 still won't run it

I'm going to cry if CS5 keeps stuffing me around...Can't update programs for any of the CS5 suite won't explain why, just bought a nikon D750 and had to download camera raw 8.7 and photoshop still won't recognise it, so far I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and it still fails to update.  Any solutions out there

Also I should add the updater does not work on CS5, so you must manually download and install them.

  • Photoshop CS4 corrupted file while save to server

    Hello
We have or Leopard OS X Server running for months. Running CS3 Clients on 10.4.11 without any problems.
A couple of weeks ago we swapped to 10.5 Clients and all Photoshop where corrupted when using "save", the "save as" works fine. After some discussions with the Adobe Support we decided to upgrade all our clients to CS4 (very expensive, while we own CS3.3 only for 5 months now)
The Same problem occured with CS4 Photoshop. After again a discussion with Adobe Support whe switched of VersionCue support within the Preferences of Photoshop. This solves the problem for our G5 Based Machine, but all the Intel-Based machines are still corrupting the Photoshop files.
Has some experienced the same problem? Is their a bugfix our a workaround. The Problem is that using "apple-S" key is an automatic mechanism for our people for your now, you can't switch the mind in days to use "shift-apple-S" Key
Discussing the Problem with Adobe and Apple is very frustrating, they both say it is not their problem or bug but from theother.
For me Adobe should fix this bug. They offer CS4 for Leopard so they should be aware of incompatibilities with the Leopard System
Who is able to help us?
    Regards
    Gérard

This is a solvable problem, and indeed a number of networks work just fine with remote access and saving. But it requires your experienced IT to deal with it -- to understand the particular issues with your network and how to solve them on your end. Changing an OS and its network settings, computers, software, routers and switches and their settings, cabling, other network hardware or software or their settings can affect how reliably files can be accessed and saved to a server.
As Adobe has said for years, there are just far too many network variables for Adobe to guarantee that saving to a network will always work. So they recommend: drag the file to the local volume. Work locally. Save locally. Drag the file back to the server.

  • Photoshop cs5.1 won't open pictures

For about a week and a half now I have been trying to open pictures in Photoshop cs5.1, and they won't open.  They are all JPEG files that I am trying to open, I know it is not the files especially because when I try to create a new document nothing comes up.
I would really appreciate an answer as soon as possible. -Thanks

First verify the image is fine, by loading the image in another image editor, there should be a free one included with your OS. If it can read the file with no errors and you can see the image, then the next step it to reset your photoshop preferences. Next is to update your video driver. Can other formats be viewed?

  • Apple mail won't save outgoing server port...? Odd symptom.

Each time I close Mail, the SMTP port reverts to 25. I can enter a new port, but Mail won't save that port info. I have to re-enter after opening Mail each time.
    Symptom goes like this:
Open Mail, then when sending 1st message after opening app an error "cannot send mail using selected server" appears. I need to go into the settings & switch the port from the default port that is displayed (25), to 3535. After doing that & clicking ok, closing the window, the password dialog box appears & mail sends just fine. Every other message from that point will send.
Close Mail, then reopen. Have to repeat same process again.

Two weeks later (after post, above)
I Solved the Problem - I reinstalled Mac OSX 10.6.6 (It was rather painless)
My Mail is working again. Safari now also again remembers passwords.
Also, my Aperture's Mail export also works. (Mail is no longer grayed out).

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 sometimes shuts down unexpectedly.

After starting Adobe Photoshop CS5 (without selecting any photo) I enter: file>automatic>photomerge.
The result is an error message: Adobe Photoshop CS5 stopped working.
After that Adobe Photoshop CS5 shuts down.
I am using a Samsung PC, Intel Core i5 2410M cpu, Windows 7 Home 64 bits, 4 GB.
I re-installed the software but the error remains.

Thanks all for your help. I have done a lot of tests wich RAM changes:
I have 2 Banks with each have 2 slots (Bank 0/0, Bank 0/1, Bank 1/0, Bank 1/1). In each Slot is a 4 GB Module. All works fine to 12 GB RAM, but as soon I put a module in Bank 1/1, Photoshop (and only Photoshop) crashes with a kernel panic. All my other programs (Adobe Premiere 5.5, Avid Media Composer 6, Apple Final Cut Pro X, aso.) works fine.
So there are only 2 options: Bank 1/1 is corrupt because it is with each module (so the Modules works fine, I think), and therefor the Motherboard is corrupt, or Photoshop has a problem with over 12 GB RAM. Because I have no other machine with more then 12 GB RAM, I have attached a link with my test-file. It's only a simple file, and you need only to add 3-5 more text layers. If that works on other machines with 16 GB RAM, my motherboard is corrupt.

Thanks again for all your help.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 will not save prefs

Once quit, prefs are standard again. Even on admin account. PS is the only application of mastercollection with this issue. Reinstallation does not help. What is the solution?
There is no plist file named com.adobe.Photoshop.12.1 in the prefs from system library (Mac OS X.7). Does that make sense?

Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Settings folder does not update when I change the prefs in Photoshop. And inside this folder: Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Prefs.psp file (and all other files in this folder) do not update. Date of installation stays. So actions, swatches, workspaces and so on, also will not remember changes.
My problems are created when I upgraded from CS3 to CS5.5. My software and OS (Mac OS X 10.7.5) is up to date. My hardware is ok.
I found an old discussion thread from others with the same problem at the time they upgraded from CS3 to CS5. Solution: change permissions in prefs folder to "everyone" in Read and Write. This is not working for me on my own account, but it works well on my admin account. Before I had the same problems there.
I discovered permissions for system (read and write) for Adobe PS CS5.1 Settings folder, but there are no system permissions for this folder on my own account. Missing permissions?

  • Photoshop CS5.1 won't load extensions.

I am running 10.8.5 on my MacBookPro. I have both PS CS 5.1 and PS CS6 loaded on this laptop and CS6 loads the extensions fine. I am stumped as to why this is happening. By the way, I use Extention Manager 5.5 to load the extensions and it says the extensions have been successfully loaded, but no luck once I start up PS.
My MacPro is running 10.6.8 and has both CS 5.1 and CS6 and both load extensions fine and work as expected. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What version of the extension manager 5.5 do you have on os x 10.8.5?
In the cs5 extension manager, Help>About Extension Manager
In photoshop cs5 under Photoshop>Preferences>Plug-Ins, you have Load Extension Panels checked?

    Hi,
We were getting similar errors after installing Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Design Premium on Windows XP Professional SP3 and attempting to run the software as a standard user in the 'Domain Guests' group:
    Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5
Application starts but immediately closes shortly afterwards
    Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'Adobe Flash CS5.5 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
              AppName: flash.exe AppVer: 11.5.1.349 ModName: flbridge.dll
              ModVer: 9.0.0.0 Offset: 000162d0
    Adobe Illustrator CS5.1
Application displays the following error on startup:
              Adobe Illustrator
              Error loading plugins.
              AISaveForWeb.aip
              DxfDwg.aip
              PNGFileFormat.aip

    Adobe InDesign CS5.5
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'InDesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
AppName: indesign.exe AppVer: 7.5.2.318 ModName: support for javascript.rpln
              ModVer: 7.5.0.142 Offset: 000361a8
    Adobe Photoshop CS5.1
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
              AppName: photoshop.exe AppVer: 12.1.0.0 ModName: scriptingsupport.8li
              ModVer: 10.0.0.0 Offset: 000d1a2e
In each of these cases, I found eventually that the problem was because the user account that I was testing with was a member of the 'Domain Guests' group on the domain. (Other posts online seem to indicate that the same problem may occur if accounts are set up to use mandatory profiles, a Windows domain feature). In every case removing the user from the Domain Guests group and then logging on again resolved the problem.
I have yet to find a workaround for this issue other than removing the user from the Domain Guests group which does not involve removing some of the functionality from this software. Indeed if you run the software as a member of the local 'Guests' group, you get an error stating that this is not supported.
However if Adobe would like to troubleshoot the problem, it may well be caused by a call to RSACryptoServiceProvider and/or CryptAcquireContext returning NTE_TEMPORARY_PROFILE, as described in the following MSDN blog post:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/alejacma/archive/2007/10/23/rsacryptoserviceprovider-fails-when-us ed-with-mandatory-profiles.aspx
It seems as if these API calls were not designed to be called in the context of a mandatory and/or temporary profile (such as that created for a Domain Guest user account), and so if Adobe need to use these calls in their programs, they need to handle the NTE_TEMPORARY_PROFILE error and work around it if possible. (Searching for 'NET_TEMPORARY_PROFILE' in Google brings up a few possibilities).
If you are trying to use the software in the mean time try removing your user account from the 'Domain Guests' group and see if this helps.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 won't print if Labels ticked off on print panel

Just deployed photoshop CS5.1 over the whole office, on various versions of mac OS from 10.6 to 10.9.  In the Output options over on the right side of the print panel, if the "Labels" option is ticked off, then the job never comes out of the printer (konica-minolta C360).  The job appears to go -- everything on the print queue looks like it is communicating with the printer, sending the data, reporting consumables that are low, etc -- just like it prints when the Labels are not ticked.  The only difference is that if "Labels" is ticked then there is no sign at the printer of the job existing.  The data light doesn't flash, the job never appears in the queue, no errors.  It's like somewhere between computer and printer it just gets lost!
