Photoshop CS5 undo in Workspace

Hi everyone.....
I am new at Adobe Photoshop CS5. Is there an undo icon somewhere in the workspce in Photoshop CS5/ I know  that you can go to Edit...undo, nut is there an undo icon somewhere where you can click on to undo the action?
I appologize if this is a foolish question.....
thank you
Joe P

Ther is no icon like photoshop elements has for example, but you can
press Ctrl+Z to undo the last operation. This only works for one undo.
If you press Ctrl+Z again, it redoes the last operation.
To step back further press Alt+Ctrl+Z or Shift+Ctrl+Z to step forward.

  • Photoshop CS5 64 bits Workspaces problem (Win 7 64 bits)

    Hello.
Top bottom menu window at right of the screen starts minimized everytime I launch Photoshop, although workspaces (default and personalized) have all the windows maximized.
Is any other user experiencing the same problem?
Although I deleted, bring back the default ones, and created new workspaces, the problem persists.
Please see screen captures attached, thanks.

    Try this:
    1.  Restore the Photoshop window (i.e., click on the middle caption button, so that Photoshop is a window that is NOT maximized).
    2.  Get the panels looking the way you want them.
    3.  While the app is still Restored (NOT Maximized), close and reopen Photoshop.  Are the panels still the way you want them?
    5.  If so, maximize Photoshop.
    6.  Close and Reopen Photoshop.  Are the panels still proper?
I've noticed that something is saved when Photoshop is in Restored view that is not saved when Maximized.

  • Strange problem undoing a shape layer move in Photoshop CS5

Hi. I have a strange recurring problem in Photoshop CS5. Basically, it manifests like this:
I have a shape layer, or several shape layers. I will move the shape with the move tool (usually via holding Ctrl, depending upon which tool is selected). If I then use undo or step backward, the image does not revert properly. It's like there is a discrepancy between the position of the layer mask and what is displayed on screen. Clicking on the vector mask of the shape layer to reveal its outline shows that the shape is where it should be (i.e. in the position it was originally), but the element of the image it represents is somewhere else. Sometimes, if I move a group of such shape layers, the problem seems to affect some of them but not all. Once so far, I have managed to rectify the problem by simply turning off an unrelated layer and turning it on again! Very strange.
It's a difficult problem to deal with, because it doesn't happen every time. And when it does, it's a case of reverting to a previous save. Luckily I save reasonably often, but it's still an annoying thing to deal with.
Hope I've described it well enough to understand. Any ideas?
    I'm using CS5 12.0.4. Windows 7 64-bit. Intel i5 2300. Integrated HD2000 graphics with latest drivers.

I realise I seem to be talking to myself here (perhaps no-one's still using CS5 here, plus it's a fairly specific problem), but I have discovered a factor that makes for repeatable demonstration of this behaviour.
It appears that the problem I'm having is related to using feathering on vector masks. Create a shape with the pen tool, add an amount of 'feather' in the mask options panel, use the move tool to move the shape and then undo. This displays the problem I'm seeing where the image is not refreshed. I have at least found a way to workaround the issue for now. Simply changing the feathering amount updates the image to how it should be.
I'm glad that I can at least continue to use CS5, because I'm totally content with its functionality for my uses, and an upgrade seemed overkill (not to mention having to adjust to the changes made in CS6+ versions).
Perhaps there is still a cure for this bug somewhere. I will keep looking, and update this thread if I find it, in the hope that it may help someone else out there with the same problem.

  • Issues with Workspaces in Photoshop CS5

In previous editions of workspaces in CS applications, if I closed a palette, or moved palettes around and then selected a workspace, all palettes would return right back to the correct positions and turned on as originally setup in that workspace. Now, in Photoshop CS5, this does not happen. Palettes do not move back to their original position and closed palettes do not open when a Workspace is selected. Is there a fix to this problem?
    Thank you!

Thank you for the fix c.p, is there a setting to have the Workspace automatically reset when it's reselected?

  • Photoshop CS5 Mini Bridge Annoying Beep

I have an annoying issue with the Mini Bridge in Photoshop CS5, and I believe anyone could reproduce it if you do the following:
    Open Photoshop CS5.
Have the Mini Bridge palette collapsed as an icon, docked somewhere (you can simply use the "Photography" workspace to do that).
Open anything, perhaps a new document.
Click on the Mini Bridge palette icon to open the Mini Bridge. Wait until it loads.
Then click on the same Mini Bridge icon again to collapse it.
Make sure your speakers are on.
Now press Space as you would do to pan around the document. You don't have to pan, it's enough to just press Space.
You will hear a beep sound, which you usually hear when OS X tells you that you're clicking an inactive window, or typing in a window that does not accept keyboard input, or in other similar situations. The beep will sound repeatedly while you hold Space down to pan around. It will sound each and every time you press space from then on, until you interact with the document using some other tool (like drawing something with the brush tool). Then the sound no longer happens when panning again.
The problem has occasionally happened to me when using other collapsed iconic palettes as well, however, I cannot always reproduce them.
This is a small issue that doesn't affect workflow, but having to click extra tools just to get rid of the beeping sound is very annoying, enough to make me not use the Mini Bridge.
    I'm running Snow Leopard.
If anyone else can reproduce the issue, please post here. I can reproduce it every single time.

    >But that's still not a proper solution.
we're not in a very good situation to know what or when Adobe will respond. We know that they are aware of many bugs but since history is all we have, CS4 had only 1 update before CS5 was released and we've already had that same first quarter update. So, without any more information I can only assume that the next fix will be after CS6 is released.
I know that Adobe can't discuss future plans...... but what Adobe can and can not do is up to them. So if Adobe wanted to announce an upcoming fix they could ( and they have in the past ). I can understand keeping new product releases under wraps, but this is just a fix for something that .... well..... we have already purchased.
    >Just go to Mac 'System Preferences' - 'Sound', set the volume of the error beep to minimum and forget about it.
So, yes I have had the error sound set to "funk" and on very low for quite a while, which results in a low clicking sound.
Again, I feel like I need to repeat this, I like CS5, love PS, but some things can be better, and isn't that why we are all here. It just seems odd that you can purchase something today that has bugs but can't ask the vendor when it will be fixed?
    regards.

  • My images in Photoshop CS5 show up black.?

My images in Photoshop CS5 show up black.?
CS5 and was working great yesterday..but today both all my images PSD, JPG show up black in the workspace.
The image is only visible when I am moving the window around and it shows up in the layer window fine.
I can't see my edits, and I have no idea how to turn it off, or get that Black not to show...
HELP, I need PS to work ASAP... Thanks to All... TOM

Have you tried deleting your preferences file?
I think it's CTRL, ALT, SHift when starting PS and that will brinf up a prompt box.

  • Photoshop CS5 crashing on opening every time.

I am having all sorts of difficulties with photoshop and the Adobe help team and our IT guys are unable to fix it without creating a new user profile each time the problem reoccurs.
Typically, it would crash anywhere from one to three times a day (most recently I have noticed this when performing a transform of photographs - namely a distort transform). This was the case for the past few months, and prior to that it crashed but more sporadically.  In each case it would crash the entire system, and I would need to restart the computer.
However as of a couple of days ago, it simply crashes on opening, and is contained within just photoshop. I have been trying to open Raw canon files and jpgs and the same thing happens.
    Things we have tried:
After changing to a new user profile and the problem persisting we then thought it may be that the machine wasn't powerful enough to cope with the large photo files I was using or that I was simply opening to many files for the system to cope.  We then upgraded the computer in an attempt to solve it.  I have shown details below:
    Model Name: iMac
      Model Identifier: iMac11,3
      Processor Name: Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 8 MB
      Memory: 16 GB
      Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
      Boot ROM Version: IM112.0057.B00
      SMC Version (system): 1.59f2
My new user profile was then transferred across and the problem remained, so I trashed all my personal preferences and started from scratch again with a new user profile.
    I trashed my photoshop preferences.
I blocked the fonts (although I only use photoshop for photographic images)
I am on an office network (programs saved to my computer), and even after disconnecting it crashes.
I have uninstalled, and reinstalled the software, both myself and with Adobe tech on a remote screen viewing session.
I have done all updates for both Mac and adobe.  The adobe tech guy also ran an Adobe Mac clean program, and then assured me after 3 hours on-line and on the phone, that I would have no more problems.  I tired it and it crashed instantly on  opening.
In the end, he created yet another new user profile.
I could really do with a solution that doesn't involve always having to trash all my settings and my user profile, as this is costing me hours and hours in headaches and having to redo actions, set up workspaces for all my adobe software etc etc.
I also run Office for Mac and new Outlook for mac, could this be related?
Here is a copy of the most recent crash report, bearing in mind the whole suite has been reinstalled from scratch and has no personal settings left at all:

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the applications.  When we purchased the new computer it was set up from scratch, but as I said the old user profile was transferred.  The original problems of photoshop freezing and the system locking up continued, and so everything was set up again from scratch I believe.
Also, I may have been unclear as to my definition of crashing.  It was freezing everything previously, and then two days ago, just the photoshop program started "quitting unexpectedly" on opening, each and every time I tried to use it.
The new user profile worked for the majority of today, but froze the screen during a photoshop distort transform and I was unable to do anything, but switch the machine off at the back and reboot. (this is what was happening prior to me receiving the error report I copied onto the original post).  I can only presume it is going down the same route and will be doing the above again once I am using it at full pace again.
The old user profile is still on the computer, and on the new user profile we have not included the Outlook software as we weren't sure whether this may be affecting it, as the problems have become increasing worse since this has been on computer.
Because everything has been ongoing and on two machines, it is starting to become very unclear as to whether it is a hardware, software/ operating system problem, or network issue.  The computer has also been configured to run windows bootcamp.
I have been passing on the information as it is coming in, and any more ideas will be gratefully received.  I have already been told we can return the original RAM into the computer next week, to see if this helps, and I may try to download CS5 from the Adobe website, rather than using the CD's as it was suggested that this may help??!  Either way I am unable to carry out any of my work until this resolved so I am willing to try any solutions!
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS5.5 Layers partially disappear. Cannot get them back.

Adobe CS5.5 Photoshop running on Mac OS X.
This is a brand new installation, just purchased and installed last week, and this is the first graphic heavy task I have attempted using Photoshop CS5.5. I was working in a document (photo-manipulation) and eveyrthing was going very, very smoothly. I was using mostly Masks. The issue ocurred immediately after I tried to apply a Hue/Saturation effect to the topmost layer. All the layers experienced partial disappearing. Even though they appear whole in the layers tab, on the stage huge parts are missing.
    See this screenshot:
I tried to undo the Hue/Saturation, close Photoshop completely and reopen, and double checking the settings on each layer. I was saving as I went along but even closing without saving and re-opening the file did not help much. Most of the disppeared portions have returned, but there are still "chunks", sort to speak, that are "missing". I have spent about four hours on this piece so far, and I really do not want to have to go back and re-do the "missing" parts (that are not really missing just not showing up). And the layer with the knight is not supposed to be black, Photoshop did that all on its own. O.o
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to get all of each layer back visible? I have used Photoshop CS2 and I have Photoshop CS4 on my other computer, but I have never had this happen in any of the earlier versions. And this being the first time I used Photoshop CS5.5 for more than just saving screenshots... Yeah. Any ideas?
    ~Jacquelyn

On your recommendation, I tried turning off the OpenGL and restarted Photoshop. I also checked the blend settings. No change. I am beginning to think that perhaps the missing "chunks" on the various layers were somehow deleted. Though I did not select nor delete anything. It is very curious. I wish I knew what happened (or what I did by accident) so I can prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.
Anyway, I spent a few extra hours re-doing the parts that were "missing" and now the piece is finished. http://fav.me/d49b0sz

  • Photoshop CS5.1 will not save prefs

Once quit, prefs are standard again. Even on admin account. PS is the only application of mastercollection with this issue. Reinstallation does not help. What is the solution?
There is no plist file named com.adobe.Photoshop.12.1 in the prefs from system library (Mac OS X.7). Does that make sense?

Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Settings folder does not update when I change the prefs in Photoshop. And inside this folder: Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Prefs.psp file (and all other files in this folder) do not update. Date of installation stays. So actions, swatches, workspaces and so on, also will not remember changes.
My problems are created when I upgraded from CS3 to CS5.5. My software and OS (Mac OS X 10.7.5) is up to date. My hardware is ok.
I found an old discussion thread from others with the same problem at the time they upgraded from CS3 to CS5. Solution: change permissions in prefs folder to "everyone" in Read and Write. This is not working for me on my own account, but it works well on my admin account. Before I had the same problems there.
I discovered permissions for system (read and write) for Adobe PS CS5.1 Settings folder, but there are no system permissions for this folder on my own account. Missing permissions?

  • Photoshop CS5.1 Actions Disappeared

I am using Photoshop CS5.1 on a Mac. When launching Photoshop from Lightroom, I got an unexpected error (don't recall now what it said). Unfortunately, my custom workspace and all of my actions (default and user-defined) are gone. I utilize these actions heavily in my workflow and need them back ASAP. I have a good backup system, but when I click Load Actions from the Actions Palette, the default location [UserName]>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS5.1>Presets>Actions folder is empty (and backup files of this folder are empty long before I had this problem). Interestingly, my [UserName]>Library>Preferences>Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Settings file still has an Actions Palette.psp file in it. I have shut down and rebooted many times without success. Any idea what I can do to get these actions back? I’m hoping it’s a matter of pointing Photoshop back to my preferences some how. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as it would take days I don’t have to recreate all of my custom actions from scratch. Thanks!

If you have the files on your system backed up you may be okay.  The actions you see in the panel are stored in a file called Actions panel.psp.  It's location is as listed here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-functions-names-locations.html
If you quit Photoshop, recover the prior version of Actions panel.psp via TimeMachine or whatever, then relaunch Photoshop you should see your old actions.
    Good luck.

  • Photoshop CS5 will not launch

Photoshop CS5 will not launch either from the desktop or program list. The only way to launch is to log out and restart the computer. At the end of each session I reset the preferences in the Workspace.  I am running Win 7 ultimate with 4GB of ram. System is 64 bit .  Display is ATI Radeon HD  5700 series. Adapter type is AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x68B8). The computer has an Intel(R) series/3400 Chipset Family.
When I installed from the disk I received the message  Exit Code 6, 0 fatal errors, 21 errors, 1 warning. I have reinstalled several times and still get the same message. Tried disabling start up items while installing but same message.

One thing that sort of jumps out at me, regarding running the program, is that 4GB of RAM. With a 64-bit OS, 4GB is just about the minimum to run the OS, with little to nothing left over for a program, like Photoshop. I would bump that up, and to 12 - 16GB, if possible.
For the installation, I think that Mylenimum has posted some very useful links.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop cs5 is locked

Whenever I try to make modifications to my workspace or really do anything complicated, I get this error message.
I went to the applications folder and got the info for photoshop but then the box that allows you to unlock the application is not clickable. I added myself as an administrator and unlocked the get info box in the bottom right corner, but I still am unable to click the locked box.
    Thanks so much!

the folder Adobe Photoshop CS5 settings  is empty but there is another thing called
which when I  click on, opens photoshop and then this error message pops up
thanks so much for your patience

  • Using videos in Photoshop CS5 32 bit

Have reviewed a number of new vid tuts on doing things with video files in Photoshop CS5.  I've tried it but every time I try to bring in a video file into CS5 Photoshop 32bit, PS stops working and shuts down.  I also see I do not have a "Video" workspace to choose from the available workspaces.  "Motion" is there and maybe that's what video is now called in CS5 PS?
Anyhow, must you have the 64 bit version of PS CS5 to work with video files in Photoshop CS5?
    Thanks!
PS- Video card is nVidia GTS 250, I have the latest driver, GPU acceleration being used, Windows 7, 32 bit, 4 GB DDR3 ram.

    Thanks for that G-Spot screen-cap.
If you have the latest QT Player installed, you should also have Apple's version of H.264. Note: there are other versions available, and many users report better workings with them. Two popular alternate H.264 CODEC's are from Lead and from MainConcept. It is possible that you do not have the H.264 CODEC. Back in G-Spot, choose Tables, and check your installed CODEC's. Note: Adobe PrPro installs several MainConcept CODEC's, and it uses a unique naming convention to "hide" those CODEC's from some programs, that might overwrite or replace them, with some other version. This causes G-Spot and Sherlock the CODEC Detective (good program, BTW) to yield a false positive, that the Adobe MainConcept CODEC's are not installed properly, or are missing. Do not know if PS-Extended also installs any of the MainConcept CODEC's, but wanted to point that out, to save you worry.
Now, are you on a Mac, or a PC? The reason that I ask is that the AIFF Audio can be problematic, especially on a PC. When working with AIFF Audio, I will always convert that to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit first.
One converter is Apple's QT Pro (US $ 30 upgrade/unlock). I use it to convert SD MOV files to DV-AVI Type II's w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio, and it works well.
    Good luck,

I have a ton of codecs.  GSpot tables show a Lead H.264(L264) and also ITU-T/ISO/IEC H.264 (AVC1 and H264), a number of Apple items, AZPR and AZRP, to name a couple. My H.264 vids play fine in MS Media player, CS4 Prem Pro, MS Moviemaker 6, QT player 7.6.6, etc.
Yes, PC, Windows 7, 32 bit, i7 CPU, GeForce 250 vid card.
I also ran a "List codecs and other features" in GSpot and, yes, seems like all the MainConcepts lines for Adobe come up RED for missing in PremPro CS4 but, as you said, they may be "hidden" from GSpot.

  • Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom GUI

Does anyone know about plans of redesign the Photoshop CS5 UI?
In an older post Chris Cox said that it's on a feature request list.
Can we take a look on that feature request list?
    Best regards
    R.

I think Lightroom is already a Photoshop Lite - hopefully photoshop can keep its pro features and customizable workspaces so we can work as we see fit.
I think as away to bring in lightroom users Adobe added the TAT tool and changed the adjustment windows to a panel. Not good changes in my opinion.
I prefer the extra features and capabilities offered by bridge/photoshop over lightroom. Each program has its use.

  • Elements 8 Organiser won't load Photoshop CS5 as external editor

For some years I've succesfully used Photoshop CS2 with Elements (various versions) Organiser as my photo file manager.  The Organiser allowed me to select Photoshop as the external editor and subsequently accepted/managed the edited photos from Photoshop when I closed the file there.  (I prefer the facilities of Organiser to those of Bridge; and other folk in the household prefer Elements Editor).
I recently upgraded from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 64bit.  Initially Elements 8 Organiser (which is 32bit) continued to call up Photoshop (CS5) as the external editor but has now ceased to do so.  There is still an option in Organiser's dropdown EDIT list to "Edit in Photoshop" and any thumbnails selected in the Organiser get the "being edited" label applied if I select the "Edit with Photoshop" option.  However, Photoshop does not open;  or, if I have Photoshop open already, the photos selected in Organiser do not appear in the Photoshop workspace for editing.
I cannot, either, find the "close external edit" option in Organiser. When I eventually close Organiser, it warns that I will lose any editing done with the external editor to those photos it thinks it has handed to Photoshop, even though there has not been any handover in fact.
I can chose, in Organiser, to edit the very same photos with Elements Editor, even though Organiser appears to think that they are currently being edited by Photoshop.  If I do edit such a photo in Elements Editor then close it, the Organiser becomes happy and forgets it thought Photoshop was involved at all.
Is there some switch in a config file somewhere that I can throw to get the Organiser to actually call up Photoshop and hand it the file(s)?  Or is this just an Adobe glitch?  Any help or clues would be much appreciated.
    Lataxe

    Graham,
I have tried to persuade Elements Organiser to reconsider Photoshop as an external editor by going to the "Editing" section of Elements Preferences dialogues and specifying Photoshop.exe.  However, no matter which version of Photoshop.exe I point at (64bit CS5, 32bit CS5 or even the old 32bit CS2) Elements tells me that it automatically already has Photoshop as an external editor and I don't need to specify it as such.
On trying to exit the Preferences/Editing dialogue, Elements then pops up another dialogue box that tells me that "The path you chose for the external editing application is invalid.  Please correct the path or choose another external editor".  I need to uncheck the "Use a supplementary editing application" to stop this box re-popping.
The Elements EDIT drop down menu still shows Photoshop as an available editing application.  However, as described in the original post, Photoshop does not load or pick up any file specified for Photoshop editing within Elements Organiser.
I've also tried resetting Elements Organiser Preferences to their default.  This does not make any difference to the problem either.  There is an Organiser glitch I think.  I am begining to think it will need a Registry fix ..... but of what I have no real idea; and it isn't a good idea to mess with the Registry in a haphazard way.
Perhaps I should try a reload of Elements from scratch, after saving my Catalogue file somewhere safe?
