Photoshop cs5 weird move layer problem

I updated my Photoshop to 12.0.4 and having problem when I try to move a layer with mouse even I disable 'snap'. There is no problem if I try to move with keyboard. DO you have any idea how to fix this problem? I tried to show my problem in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn2lYNl59bI

This gets complaned about frequently. There's a long thread some pages back about the frozen move tool. I suffer from it too, requiring a restart.
For some it was related to a keystroke program (iCopy, if I recall), but others get it regardless. Probably PS incompatability with input drivers, or such.
Edit: this is the thread I referred to:

  • LR 3.6 Export to Photoshop CS5 - Images have massive problems.

    Photoshop CS5
When I use the Export to Photoshop feature (or if I export to PSD or export to TIFF and then open in Photoshop), the images look like this:
When the original in Lighroom looks like this:
If I zoom in to 100% the weird artifacting/tearing goes away, but if I zoom out any more than 66%, it gets these weird malformations on the image. I cannot figure out why. It's not the image size since I've worked with 100+ meg PSD files in Photoshop before without this issue. If I export to JPG from LR and then open in Photoshop, it's fine. It just happens with TIFF or PSD. Driving me nuts.
    Anybody have any idea why?
    Thank you all so much.

That's a typical video card driver problem affecting Photoshop. Update the driver from the manufacturer's site (NVidia or ATI).

  • Photoshop CS5 Hangs on Layer Group name edits

Layer Group name edits are causing my PS CS5 to hang repeatedly. At first I thought it was the document I was working in, so I created a generic document, and was able to replicate the problem in the new document.
With a .psd open, in the layers pallete, I have a Layer Group (A) that contains multiple sub layer groups (B) which contain additional sub layer groups (C). So the hierarchy is a three level layer group. At the sub-most layer group (C) I need to rename the groups to "Three-set colors". Since I have fifteen groups that all need the word "Three" in their labels, it would be most convenient to be able to highlight the word "Three", copy to clipboard and paste. I type in the word "Three" in the layer group name (not in the properties insector) and highlight the word "Three". Thats when PS CS5 hangs, and I have to reboot my system to unfreeze Photoshop. Only Photoshop hangs, the system does not crash. This happens in both 64 and 32 bit, old or new docs.
The plugins I have are Mask Pro x64 (OnOne) and Sitegrinder x32 (Medialab), but they are not activated when the hang occurs.
    Any ideas?

    12 gb ram

    ATI Radeon HD 5700
    4x HD's

I wasn't able to reproduce the problem with either Photoshop CS5 32 bit or x64.  That says there's something different about our systems, and that there's likely not a systemic problem in Photoshop.
Chris Cox, who replied above, is an Adobe Engineer, by the way.
I was able to replace parts or all of the names with, or insert the word Three in front of existing layer names.
Are you seeing any errors in your Windows system logs at the time the hang is occurring?
Have you updated all your software (e.g., video drivers, Windows Updates, etc.)?

  • Photoshop CS5 Video Export Option Problem

I created a simple animation in photoshop.  I can export it as a gif using the "save for web" option, but when I use the Export --> Render Video option, all video options are disabled.  That is, Quicktime option is not available.  I have the extended version, 64 bit.  I researched various possibilities, but cannot figure out how to activate the video option.  Any suggestions welcome.
    Thx

I gave the settings I used in exporting the Adobe Photoshop CS5 video. I want to know how I should change my settings. I may be creating the video all wrong or using the wrong product. I had a photoshop file with layers. I wanted the rain to fall out of the sky, so i made a video with the raindropd falling at a tween of 20 and I had like 380 frames after that. I could figur out how to get another layer to  move at a different pace, so I exported the video (many times until i could get it as clear as possible). Then i added the video back in, and added in another layer (the one that was floating in the sky). No matter which setting I used to export the video, it wasn't as crisp as I was looking for. I exported the video and iserted it back in for the movement across the bottom. That came out really clear (but it came from http://videoblocks.com). Do you or anyone else know which is the best settings for me to use in Photoshop CS5? Or is there another program i could use to makke clear videos?
I want the video to be as original as possible.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac install problem.

I just purchased Adobe Photoshop CS 5 for Mac and installed it on December 17, 2013. Last week I updated to a new harddrive. I am trying to re-install Photoshop and the disc asks all the usual questions: serial number, Adobe ID, Adobe Password, then the disk kicks out and says done. I open the applications folder and the Adobe Photoshop folder only has one file with 30 KB. Obviously, Photoshop will not open.

I was concerned that Adobe Photoshop CS6 would require me to update my computer to Mac OS 10.8. I updated from Mac OS 10.6.8 to 10.7.5 and lost my old InDesign and my old Photoshop. I purchased InDesign CS6. I read online that Photoshop CS6 was having problems with Mac OS 10.7.5 so I went with Photoshop CS5. I went to Best Buy and Simply Mac to try and purchase the program. They both told me to just go online and buy it. Nobody said go directly to Adobe. The problem is that I am just a homeowner that is not in the know about all these products. My wife is a school teacher and I could have purchased an education version. I thought, no I will just go ahead and purchase the full retail version.
The problem with Adobe is they think everyone is a computer geek and knows all about operating systems and programs. I am just a normal homeowner that is being taken advantage of by Adobe. Adobe manufactured and sold this product to a retail dealer. The product I purchased has never been licensed and I paid full retail for it. Now Adobe will not stand behind it!

  • Photoshop CS5 & Epson Stylus 3800 problem (Mac)

I am experiencing a frustrating problem with Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer with a Mac.
Trying to print on H-M paper, using the appropriate settings (see below), I find that under "Print Settings" on the printer driver, all the "Fine Art paper" choices are greyed out.
Also, which may or may not be relevant, no matter what presets are selected, the parameters remain the same (i.e., it does not appear to be responding to a change of presets).
I am running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. I have loaded the latest Epson driver, and reinstalled it after trashing the old /Library/Printers/EPSON folder.
    Settings:
    • Photoshop Manages Colors
    • Document profile:  HFA_Eps3800_MK_PhotoRag
    • Printer Profile: HFA_Eps3800_MK_PhotoRag
    • Intent: Relative Colorimetric
At this point I am baffled. Can anyone please help?

There are supposed to be Mac drivers and also Leopard beta drivers for the 3800.
There are too many Epson customers on Macs for them to not let the photo printers work with Macs.
P.S. I just Googled "Epson 3800 driver" and the first hit was the driver page. There are Mac drivers there, as there should be. *Did you scroll down past the Windows drivers* on that page? The Mac drivers are right there below the Windows drivers, just as they always are on the Epson site.

  • Photoshop CS5 'file info' pemissions problem

I recently had to replace the had drive and reinstall Photoshop CS5. I used to be able to access the file info box and add metadata or read the camera settings. Now the file info box loads but the fields are not available. if I log out and use the guest account on my Mac it works fine so Adobe support told me it is a permissions issue that prevents the box from loading. I have no idea where to correct this.
I am running Photoshop at 32 bit so my scanner will work, but I tried it at both 32 & 64, but the file info box doesn't load regardless of this setting. I also tried unistalling & reinstalling Photoshop. I have obviously messed up a user permissions setting somewhere but I don't know where to fix it.
Here is a screen capture showing the two views. The top is logged into my usual account and bottom is on the guest account. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Photoshop Cs5.1 / Scratch file problem

Hello guys and gals of the adobe forum,
I recently downloaded the trial version of adobe master cs5.5 collection. All applications are working fine without a problem. Except Photoshop... Both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version !
When i start both of them, i have something that tells me  " Photoshop couldn't find the scratch file. Couldn't create or locate it "
Being upset with the matter, i searched on the internet in order to solve it. Some people out there seems to have the same problem  as me !
The answer that was gave to them was the following : Press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT when photoshop boots so you can reset the settings. I did that, but the error still comes up when i press "ok" after deleting the settings
Another suggestion was to press only CTRL + ALT, which would bring up a window to change the scratch file while photoshop was loading (actually, it's quite handy) But the problem is that... Well... Once i changed the scratch fille to another hard drive, photoshop DO starts, but once i quite photoshop, it gives me an error saying "couldn't find the preferences file. Couldn't save or locate the preference file. Your setting won't be saved"... Which lead to well, a photoshop that starts with the same previous error, until i change again the scratch file of photoshop manually when it loads... Which is annoying...
Lemme explain the problem : My system is a new laptop ; the XPS 17 l702x of dell. I added a SSD as the boot device. Being expensive, i only bought a 40GB to boot windows and install a couple of applications, so that only something like 5 GB would be remained at the end of the process. The other drive is a normal drive of 500 GB.
After reading a couple of articles on the internet, i coudl find out that it is because photoshop is trying to set the scratch file on the C drive, but obviously, since my configuration doesn't allow this, he keeps putting me this error. In overall, this is understandable.
The part that left me curious is why can't he saves the preferences files once he quits ? I specificaly told him to save scratch files on the D drive, which he does when he start (with the ctrl + alt + shift method) , but when it quits, it cannot save that information on a 10 kb file, and in same time,  to not put the scratch file on the C drive... Weird since i have 5 GB of free space on it !
This is where i am a nd this is where i'd like you guys to help me, if you can. Any bit of information will be highly appreciated ! I hope somebody answer as this will probably lead me to buy it or not. ( i will obviously not buy the master collection if it doesn't work on my computer ! )
Thanks for any help in advance !

If preferences don't get saved, it's usually a rather mundane permissions problem, so look into that. Alternatively move your user profiles to the platter drive by defining the system variable/ registry key/ group policies accordingly. This may, however require to reinstall some programs due to the changed path...

  • Photoshop CS5 Pen tool Selection problem?

I've been using photoshop for a while, and have never encountered this problem. I've had CS5 for about a year now and this is the first time it has done this, so hopefully someone can help me!
When I open photoshop, everything works. I make a new layer, go to use the pen tool,  make my shape and then complete it, and the line solidifies showing its a complete shape. I right click, and select the option: Make Selection.
Instead of turning the inside of the shape into the selected part, it selects everything outside of it!
I can't for the life of me figure out how this started happening, as it didn't do it a few days ago. I must have hit a button or something, but its still very annoying. Hopefully someone can help! Restarting both the program and the computer, does not help.

There's a button for that up in the options area, when a Path Tool is active.    It's been a while...  Ah, here:
I'm betting you have the one next to it pressed.
Look at your path icons in the PATHS panel.  If they're white inside, you're creating an enclosed path.  If they're gray inside with a white surround, you're removing a path from the surroundings.

  • Photoshop CS5 64 bits Workspaces problem (Win 7 64 bits)

    Hello.
Top bottom menu window at right of the screen starts minimized everytime I launch Photoshop, although workspaces (default and personalized) have all the windows maximized.
Is any other user experiencing the same problem?
Although I deleted, bring back the default ones, and created new workspaces, the problem persists.
Please see screen captures attached, thanks.

    Try this:
    1.  Restore the Photoshop window (i.e., click on the middle caption button, so that Photoshop is a window that is NOT maximized).
    2.  Get the panels looking the way you want them.
    3.  While the app is still Restored (NOT Maximized), close and reopen Photoshop.  Are the panels still the way you want them?
    5.  If so, maximize Photoshop.
    6.  Close and Reopen Photoshop.  Are the panels still proper?
I've noticed that something is saved when Photoshop is in Restored view that is not saved when Maximized.

  • Photoshop CS5.5 pen location problems! Window 7 64-bit

When using pen in Photoshop it all of a sudden shows up somewhere different than the curser shows. I go back and continue a couple times and it go somewhere different again. Use shift and pen and sometimes it takes off on a 45% angle. Tried restarting Photoshop and it starts out OK but after awhile it goes off again. Any ideas?

Best of luck in not seeing the problem return, but it's been my experience that problems that go away by themselves come back by themselves.
Something's different about your system with regard to mouse events vs. most systems, as a very basic problem such as what you're showing would make Photoshop completely unusable.
Post back if you see the problem again and maybe you can try things like disabling the OpenGL Drawing setting to see if maybe what you're seeing is a secondary problem caused by an earlier display driver glitch.

  • Photoshop CS5 channels and layer locking

Is it possible to have the RGB, Red, Green, Blue and Alpha 1 channels active and lock the background layer so it can not be moved?

If the channels (RGB, Red, Green, Blue and Alpha 1) can be locked so they can still be edited but not moved that should work.
I am able to move my image around the canvas area once the Alpha 1 channel is activated. The following are the steps I take, hopefully you can recreate.
File, Open - tif image, RGB color, 8-bits/channel
Select the Channels tab, RGB, Red, Green, and Blue channels are already activated. Alpha 1 channel is available but not active. Shift + left click Alpha 1 channel to activate, left click eye to turn off visibility.
Select Layers tab, select move tool, click on image and move.
If I turn the background to a layer I am able to lock it but then I'm not able to activate all of the channels, RGB, Red, Green, Blue and Alpha 1 channels together.
If I turn off the Alpha 1 channel the background layer does become locked.
The tif image is geo-referenced and needs to be locked to prevent it from being moved.

  • "Adobe Photoshop CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I get this error everytime I try to launch Photshop CS5. The startup screen appears but it stops at "Starting Plugins... Scripting support", then it gives that message^(along with don't send and send error report, of course).
    Specs:
    XP Pro SP3
    E6750 dual core cpu(has 64bit support)
    nVidia GeForce 9500gt 1gb
    3gb ddr2 ram
Alright, hopefully someone can help with this.
    Thanks.

Reinstalled everything and it still gives the same error.
Edit: I used the akami download manager, does that have anything to do with it? Would manually installing it be better?

  • Does running Photoshop CS5 and CS6 cause problems with plugins?

I have Phootshop CS5 (32 bit) and have also installed CS6 (64 bit) on the same PC.  After installing CS6, and reinstalling the plugins, many plugins do not run on CS but continue to work on CS5?  In some cases (Topaz for example), some filters load and others do not.  Any ideas?

    Thanks
