Photoshop CS6 3D Features Are Unselectable

Hello one and all.
I have just installed Photoshop CS6 and I found a video tutorial on Youtube to educate me how to use the new 3D fearures for the text option. I followed them to the instructions online but when I went to select the 3D option, all the options in that dropdown list were 'greyed out' and unselectable.
I now do not know whether I have installed something incorrectly or whether my computer is just not able to make use of the 3D features because of it's age and/or system setup. Below is a screengrab of what my system settings are.
If anyone is able to provide me with any definite answers to this problem, I would be very greatful. If it turns out to be the latter, and I am unable to make use of the 3D features because of the system I have, then I don't mind, as long as I know for definite one way or the other. It's the not knowing that's bugging me the most, haha!
Thank you for taking time to read this and hopefully providing me with some answers.

I'm very sorry to say that Windows 8 is likely going to disappoint you.  I've been involved with the beta testing and the things Microsoft has done to Windows are obscene in this version.  For example, they've removed all the Aero styles so that everything is plain and flat.  They clearly don't want people working on the desktop, but rather in their brave new single app per screen mode that was formerly called "Metro".
This is what applications on the desktop look like now:
Most people think Windows 3.1 looked better than this.
That's just look and feel.  There are a lot of features removed in Windows 8 as well.  Notice that there's no Start button, for example.

  • Photoshop CS6 - Spot channels are not saved correctly in the psd files.

    Hi,
    I'm using Photoshop CS6 and something happent a few days ago....some Windows or Adobe update messed up everything...I don't know...
    Here's how things are.
    If I add to an image a couple of new spot channels (any Pantone color) and remove the informations from the CMYK channels (or not-the problem it's there anyway), I should have an image with 6 color plates (CMYK and the 2 Pantone). It doesn't happened anymore...
    I'm using Corel to print the files and the previous saved files are fine, I have all the Spot colors there. Now, If I edit any file I've worked on before, and save it again, the spot colors dissapear when I'm importing the psd file in my Corel document. And if there is no information on the CMYK channels, I'm getting a blank image...
    I hope someone will give me some ideas because I don't know what to do anymore...
    Codrut

    Right. It's not reading these new saved files correctly. The old ones are fine.
    I forgot to mention one thing. I've got this CS6 as an upgrade and I still have the CS5 one running on the same computer. The CS5 version does the same thing...
    Today I tryed again to open a PSD (CS6) with another CS5 version from another computer and came with an error message "Could not complete your request because the specified color book cannot be found". And the file didn't opened....
    Who messed up my color book and how can I fix it?

  • Photoshop CS6 Problems- Shortcuts are Stuck! Lasso Does Not Work!

    Hi there! I'm a Mac user with a Cintiq 12WX tablet, and I just upgraded to Photoshop CS6. I use it primarily for art, but I've come across some problems that have really interrupted my workflow. A lot of the time, certain functions seem to not work or get stuck. Here are my problems specifically:
    1. My Undo shortcut is set to Command+Z. Some of the time it works fine, but most of the time I keep hitting the command and nothing happens! So if I want to delete a brush stroke, I usually have to tap multiple with my stylus and make more strokes in order to get Undo to work. Frustrating!
    2. The lasso tool works sometimes, but a lot of the time it doesn't select anything. So I have to keep repeating the stroke until it does select.
    3. Sometimes, the keyboard shortcuts just don't work! And even if a tool is selected, I can't do anything with it!
    These problems are all completely random, I have no idea what triggers them. I've read of other people having similar problems, but I have yet to find a solution. Nothing like this happened in CS5. Does anybody know how to help me? I make me living with art and these problems have really slowed me down. Thank you!

    What OS Version are you using?
    It sounds like you are on MaCOS, did you install the WhiteWindowWorkaround plugin to avoid the known MacOS bugs?

  • Photoshop CS6 Extended features missing

    I have a subscription. I have the Photoshop cs6. I need the extended part of Photshop CS6, but when I try to download it, it only downloads the regular CS6. How can i get the extended part of photoshop?
    Message was edited by: Brett N

    It sounds like you have a problem where your setup has become convinced you're not activated.
    Don't worry about that it's telling you it's Extended.  There is only one version of Photoshop.  The exact same program supports Standard and Extended operation; it makes run-time decisions whether to expose Extended functionality, which it will only do under one of two conditions:
    1.  You activated an Extended license (which you didn't).
    2.  It's not activated, which is the case when people are running the free trial.
    Since Photoshop lost its activation status (for reasons on your system I cannot guess at), it reverted to state 2 above.
    If you can get it re-activated - ideally permanently - then you will again have the Standard functionality.
    Unfortunately, there's not always an easy fix-all solution for activation issues.  It's possible something on your system changed, or maybe you had a problem with an earlier version of Photoshop that left some file(s) corrupted, or you changed some hardware, or any number of other things.  You should try what I suggested in the thread above (deactivating, then reactivating).
    If that does not work, or it will not accept your serial number, or it continues to fail, unfortunately you're going to have to call Adobe customer service.  Now and again some of the really helpful Adobe folks check in here and advise people, but I wouldn't count on it.

  • Photoshop's 3D features are iffy (On and Off)

    I have an HD Intel Graphics Card, 1696MB, OpenGL 2.1
    For some reason the 3D Features in both Photoshop CS5 Ext and CS6 Ext have been on and off. The features would work well for a few days and then at random, all the options in the 3D menu will be greyed out. when this happens, its the same for both CS5 and 6. I've been told that i have a more than compatible Video card.
    Please help me with my situation. ask me anything you need to know

    Update your graphics driver, if that's possible. If it's a desktop computer, the smart thing to do would be to buy a dedicated NVidia or AMD card and turn off the intel stuff. Even the cheapest ones wil lbe better than that nightmare. Otherwise there's nothing you can do.

  • Photoshop CS6 Filter boxes are filled with black when opening

    When I try to add "Extude, Wind or Tile effect",  from the stylize filter menu are opening up in black and not the normal color. I can't see the names on the adjustment slider. Does anyone not how to fix it? I am on a Mac.

    Have you run a utility to "clean" your OS recently? If so, you damaged the OS installation and are missing some files in the OS.
    Reinstalling the OS is the only known solution.

  • Update to Photoshop CS6 - Features not working

    I've updated Photoshop CS6 yet there are new features missing or not installed. For example, the smart sharpening filter. Would appreciate any help in relation to this.

      Don't think there are any updates to CS6 as current version is CC.

  • FAQ: What is the Photoshop CS6 13.0.2 update? What is the 13.1 update?

    What updates have been released?
      Photoshop CS6 has two new updates: 13.0.2 and 13.1. The 13.0.2 update is available only for Mac users and updates the user interface to be Retina compatible. The 13.1 is for Creative Cloud subscribers and adds new features to Photoshop CS6.
    How do I get the updates?
      Simply go to Help > Updates to launch the Adobe Application Manager (AAM) to start the download process. You may already have an AAM notification to install these updates waiting in your task bar. You can also download and install the 13.0.2 update from here:
    Photoshop 13.0.2 update for CS6
      Don't see the updates in AAM? Make sure the Adobe Application Manager is updated to 6.2 or later.
    Windows
    Mac OS
      Note: Using this update patch will install the latest version of AAM, which may be greater that 6.2.
      Additionally,
    Updates not available for Creative Cloud products
    What is the availability of these updates?
      The 13.0.2 update is available only for Mac OSX version 10.6 or later. The 13.1 update is only available to Creative Cloud subscribers (including Creative Cloud single-app membership, i.e. subscribing to Photoshop only), but it is for both Windows and Macintosh.
      Some of the Photoshop CS6 System Requirements have changed in order to allow for the features in the 13.1 update.
    Windows XP and Vista are no longer supported.
    The video card VRAM requirements have gone up to 512 MB.
    For more information, see:
    New system requirements for Photoshop 13.1
    Heads Up: Photoshop System Requirement Changes
    Error: "Graphics hardware not officially supported" occurs in Photoshop 13.1 (Subscription Edition)
    Do I need to install both updates?
      No, the 13.1 update also includes the Retina display enhancements added with 13.0.2. So on the Mac platform, you will only be asked or are required to install the 13.1 update if you are a Creative Cloud subscriber.
    What are the new features added for Creative Cloud subscribers in 13.1?
      There have been many new features added to Photoshop CS6, including:
    Smart Object support for Blur Gallery and Liquify — Enjoy the creative freedom to experience non-destructive editing with Blur Gallery and Liquify now that both features offer Smart Object support.
    Conditional Actions — Speed up image processing by creating Conditional Actions. These commands use logic to automatically choose among different Actions based on rules that you establish.
    Crop tool refinements — User-inspired enhancements to the Crop tool allow you to work smarter.
    Copy CSS — Quickly export Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) markup for text and objects, potentially saving hours of work translating your Photoshop designs into web code.
    Load color swatches from HTML or CSS — Import color swatches so that you can easily design incredible websites.
    Improved Type Styles — Ensure consistent type formatting across multiple documents by defining shareable default styles, which are then available in any Photoshop document.
    3D type enhancements* — Enhance 3D type with new GL preview and image-based lights (IBL) improvements.

    *Note: Photoshop CS6 single-app subscription is for the Standard version, which does not include 3D features and thus does not include these enhancements. Creative Cloud subscription comes with Photoshop CS6 Extended and includes the 3D enhancements.
    I am not a Creative Cloud subscriber, why do I not the get the 13.1 update? Doesn't my full purchase also qualify me for free updates?
      When you buy Photoshop CS6 outright, you are essentially buying a static product. You still qualify for minor, bug fixing releases like 13.0.1 and 13.0.2, but your purchase will not include any new features, as has always been the case in the past.
      When you subscribe to Creative Cloud, you are not buying CS6, you are subscribing to whatever the latest version of Photoshop is. This means you are immediately entitled to any new features and upgrades as they become available. And this is only one of the many great reasons to be a Creative Cloud subscriber. Why do my images appear smaller on my Retina enabled Mac after installing the 13.1/13.0.2 update?
      Retina displays use a higher pixel density than a normal monitor. The individual display pixels are approximately one half the size of previous devices. While working in Photoshop before installing the 13.1/13.0.2 update, as with any other non-Retina optimized application, the number of pixels used is doubled to give a normal, non-miniaturized appearance. This can cause applications to be slightly blurred or pixilated. Thus, when viewing images in Photoshop, the zoom level is effectively double whatever is displayed. At 100% zoom, the image is displayed so that every one image pixel is shown with four display pixels, the same as viewing the image at 200%. With the 13.1/13.0.2 update, Photoshop now displays natively on Retina screens, meaning that image pixels now appear at the much smaller Retina size, thus reducing the amount of screen space they take up when viewed at 100%.
    Photoshop CS6 HiDPI and Retina Display Support FAQ
    Known Issues
      The following are known issues with the 13.1 and 13.0.2 updates but have been fixed in the 13.1.1 and 13.0.3 updates:
    Program error opening files in 13.1 and 13.0.2
    Photoshop 13.1/13.0.2 crashes opening EPS files
    Photoshop crashes after updating to 13.1 or 13.0.2 on Retina display
      For more information, see:
    Photoshop 13.0.3/13.1.1 Updates Now Available
    Why have icons disappeared?
      Due to changes in the number of pixels involved in the UI, some icons can disappear. If the Photoshop Dock icon is now blank, rebooting the computer will refresh the system and load the new HiDPI icon. Some extensions do not have a Retina ready icon and thus will be blank when you have the panel minimized. In most cases like these, we may have to wait until the manufacturer also releases a HiDPI version of the Extension. Additionally, sub-menu headers may become blank when you view the contents of the sub-menu. For example, if you select Filter > Sharpen, while viewing the list of Sharpen, Sharpen Edges, Sharpen More, etc "Sharpen" itself will be blank.
    Additional known issues:
    Image on second monitor goes black
    No Print Size button in Zoom tool options in Photoshop CS6

    You might want to wait.  There are some bugs in it and Adobe is working on it.  See threads posted in last few hours.
    Well that might explain things more than I've garnered from the Forums.  I've got a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and a Mac Pro with Lion, both with CS6 Design and Web Premium on them.  The Mac Pro updates Photoshop to 13.0.3, the MacBook Pro is "stuck" at 13.0.1.  It won't update via the "Help/Updates" or by downloading and trying to install manually.  AAM gives an error when trying manually; says to contact support.  Other CS6 apps, i.e. Illustrator, do not update on the MBPro either.  I've uninstalled/reinstalled, deactivated/reactivated, etc., to no avail.  If it means anything, I just deactivated the Illustrator app, quit it, restarted, and the splash screen (which shows the loading progress) showed "Try" on it - haven't noticed that before, and I have not installed any trial downloads.  I'm at a loss as to why one installation of CS6 Design and Web Premium (physical/downoad) will update properly on one computer and not the other.
    Am waiting to see if Adobe has an answer.  The apps work, just don't update...

Older  Cloud versions of Photoshop can also be installed Photoshop CC version 14.2.1 acd Photoshop CS6 version 13.1.2 that version is different from the perpetual  Photoshop CS6 versions 13.0.6 and 13.0.1.3.

  • How can I set CameraRAWOpenOptions using Javascripts in Photoshop CS6?

    I have been unable to set CameraRAWOpenOptions in scripts that worked fine for me in Photoshop CS5 but now do not work in Photoshop CS6.  There are no error messages when I run the scripts, and they appear to finish okay, but the images come out unadjusted.  Below is the essence of how I'm trying to do it.  When I run these scripts in Extendscript (CS5 or CS6 does not make a difference), Photoshop CS6 simply uses its own default (saved) settings, but CS5 would allow the overrides.  I did change the default settings in CameraRAW in CS6 to use the default lens correction profiles available from the EXIF data, and I'm wondering if that rendered the script unable to change any of the rest of the settings.
    Here's how I have the code:
    var RawOptions = new CameraRAWOpenOptions;
    RawOptions.settings=CameraRAWSettingsType.CUSTOM;
    RawOptions.exposure=+2.00;
    RawOptions.vignettingAmount = 0;
    RawOptions.vignettingMidpoint = 0;
    RawOptions.contrast = 50;
    RawOptions.saturation = 0;
    RawOptions.shadows = 0;
    RawOptions.luminanceSmoothing = 0;
    var JPGopts = new JPEGSaveOptions;
    JPGopts.quality = JPEGquality;
    //Perform the loop through the files
    app.open(testListing[0], RawOptions, false);
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    for (var nfile = nstart; nfile < nstop; nfile++)
        app.open(testListing[nfile], RawOptions, false);
        FnameSave = new File(SavePath+"/"+testListing[nfile].name);
        app.activeDocument.saveAs(FnameSave, JPGopts, false, Extension.UPPERCASE);
        app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);

    I would collapse and expand the toolbar windows by using the double arrow icon?
    Doing this will almost give you your full screen?
    Or you can hit 'Tab' and it hides your tools when you don't need them?

  • I am running a TRIAL VERSION of Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended and Bridge does not open.  Help?

    I am running a TRIAL VERSION of Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended on MAC and Bridge does not open.  It did open when I first downloaded it - but now a black question mark is over the BR icon and it does not open up.  Any ideas from anyone?

    Hi Steve -
    I just thought it was interesting and helpful to me to learn that the icon for Bridge does not appear anywhere.  Not in Application Folder.  Not in the Finders Directory Files.  I see your point - if I could locate that icon - I'd be set by dragging it onto my DOCK and launching it from there.
    So - I'm assuming I need to uninstall CS6.   Please list all the steps for me to uninstall so that I don't miss any CS6 files.
    When I search in FINDER for CS6 uninstall- I see two icons -  red adobe "UNINSTALL ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS6" (both files are identical)  Under KIND they both say Alias - with two different dates they were last opened (in November - few minutes apart).  Is that what I use to uninstall completely all the files related to PS CS6 Extended as well as Bridge?
    Do I need to DEACTIVATE ANYTHING ANYWHERE?
    DOES ANYTHING NEED TO GO INTO TRASH.
    I just want to make sure 'everything' related to CS6 Extended is off my computer and out of all the files.  In the event i want to re-install - naturally I don't want to run into any conflicting 'issues'.
    Do you think if I reinstall I will run into this same problem again (BR not launching)?  Is there anything I can do to prevent it?  I note on the forums - going a few years back - that there have been a lot of issues related to this same problem - even in other versions of the Creative Suite.  Is Adobe doing anything to rectify this problem for us Photoshop CS Suite lovers or is all their focus just going into CC?
    Thank you so much for trying to help me resolve this issue.  It is very frustrating to have an Adobe product that is not completely functional.  Especially when the Creative Suites are so expensive.  I appreciate all the time you've put into this issue.
    Carole
