Photoshop CS6 bizarre behavior in Win8
Don't yam that the OS is a beta: it isn't. CS6 worked stably with the consumer preview version but seems unusable with what will be the final version of Win8 (like possibly October).
Win8 has its issuess but at least it isn't the senile Mac OSancient.
I don't want to hear about video drivers: Adobe knows what the driver models are for Nvidia and ATI and it is Adobe's problem to create a stable product that conforms to the known parameters of what are mature driver platforms. I have several versions of ATI drivers archived and none of them make any difference.
I have the same issues regardless of the settings for GPU acceleration or whether the GPU is used at all, in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
Changing the GPU settings, closing and reopening the program does nothing.
I experience constant flickering in the desktop background color from blank (checkerbox) to black when implementing essentially any image manipulation. I can find no work-around for this.
The biggest issue is that it is nearly impossible to use the perspective crop tool as the image completely goes black when the mouse button is released. There is a frustrating work-around: If without moving the mouse I left click again the image reappears. Move the crop line and release the mouse button the image disappears. Click again on the left mouse button and move a few pixels and the image reappears.
Try it, you'll hate it.

Laptop makers often do not update drivers because it may cause them support issues even though the parts in their machines are all generic, including any ATI mobile video card. Intel in particular updates chipset drivers that most laptop users are unaware of and which generally enhance performance. This utility will scan your laptop and point you to updated drivers. If you are uncertain about installing that driver create a restore point before installing and you can revert to wherever you were easily via safe mode. Remember these are generic drivers for the generic parts in your machine regardless of whose label is on the box. Mobile video drivers are not updated as frequently as desktop drivers and it is a sad fact that ATI is less aggressive than Nvidia in updating video drivers in general and Adobe, as this long thread demonstrates, is entirely indifferent to the needs of its customers as it has no competitors for Photoshop.

Anyone know how to solve this problem?? Please help. It's given me a lot of headache and I need it fixed as soon as possible.
I have re-installed. And system restore. Everything is up-to-date. And I cannot find the problem to solve it.

How to stop "Adobe Photoshop CS6 has stopped working" error in Win8?
On my new Dell XPS 8500 Win 8 computer Photoshop CS6 keeps stopping working. I've tried both 64-bit and 32-bit versions and updated the video driver after phoning Dell. Also installed latest Adobe program updates. I keep getting the error message "Adobe Photoshop CS6 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Any solutions? I'm losing a terrible amount of time!
Hi there - thanks for the quick reply....
Yes, I do have a discrete video card with my main monitor plugged into that. I enabled multiscreen in the BIOS so I could plug in my second screen into the internal VGA port (both older monitors from my previous pc). I was previously getting an error when I opened Photoshop which said "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware. Check out the manufacturer's website for the latest software... etc..." which is why I contacted Dell to update the driver. They have a list of drivers for my system and suggested I try the first 3 in order. The first 2 wouldn't install but the third did and although the display driver error has disappeared now, Photoshop keeps crashing.
My version of Photoshop is CS6 13.0.1 x64

Building a test environment to double check a stock Windows 8 config and Photoshop CS6 is going to take some time.
As it turned out, not so much.
I had saved a snapshot for a Windows 8 x64 virtual machine when I first installed it, and sure enough I was able to restore that snapshot and install Photoshop successfully in just minutes with no problems.
I was able to run Photoshop CS6 x64 13.0.0 just fine.
I then updated to 13.0.1, which again went without a hitch, and now I'm able to run Photoshop CS6 13.0.1 x64 again without problems.
Note that this is a bone stock, freshly installed Windows 8 system without any tweaks whatsoever. There is just a C: drive and Photoshop's configuration is the stock out-of-box-experience.
I've tried some general dragging and dropping - e.g., of images from Explorer to Photoshop, of layer data from one document to another - with no problems.
I even shut down the virtual machine, added a disk drive (D:), then asked Photoshop to use D: as scratch. It had no problem with that either.
I am willing to say definitively at this point that there is no systemic problem with Photoshop CS6 and WIndows 8 x64 out-of-the-box, though that's not to say there aren't classes of problems with particular video drivers or on systems where the Windows 8 system was installed as an upgrade to an existing system - or even as a clean install but with disk volumes left over from a prior system.
That last scenario is the one I see causing the most problems - that of having a disk drive formatted under a prior version of Windows, which would have had a different Security ID, and not setting the ownership and permissions so as to allow access by the current username.

Photoshop Cs6 is hanging when trying to work in 3D when it wasn't before
When I first started using 3D in Photoshop it was working rather smoothly and seemed to chug along fairly fast. Then one day when I was working in it as usual and tried to perform some random action it just started hanging with the spinning blue circle for about 2 or 3 minutes. It continued to do this ever since, sometimes hanging for up to 5 minutes before performing my command. Some actions cause it to hang longer than others, such as creating a new light and changing the diffuse color of a material, which is by far the worst in terms of the amount of time it will hang. I have searched the forums and google and tried all suggestions to any problem that seemed to have a similar nature. The only time that I had a partial success was after I had uninstalled Photoshop, then ran the adobe creative suite cleaner tool, then manually searched through the registry for every reference to adobe and Photoshop I could find and deleted them. I then reinstalled Photoshop and updated it. When I started using it in 3D after that it was running smooth as butter, no hangs or stalls on anything, including creating lights and changing diffuse colors. But my joy was not long lived, as after about 2 hours of use it started to do its usual behavior of hanging again. So I tried that approach again and it did not seem to work a second or third or fourth time. So out of desperation and all out of options, I decided to run process monitor from sysinternals to see if it showed me anything even though I knew that I probably would not understand what it were showing me. I noticed a lot of errors with the results of "name not found" for registry calls, "invalid parameter" for directory quarries, and "no such file" for file reads. But the one that seems to be happening the most whenever the program is hanging is it is trying to open a file from C:\program files\Adobe\photoshop x64\required\CgShaders, but that directory is nonexistent on my system. I was hoping that someone would be able to solve this for me as 3D in Photoshop is a big part of my workflow and I am all out of ideas. I'm going to include the process monitor log file and it will be in pml format which you will need process monitor to read, but it is a very small, portable, and free program which can be downloaded from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645. The Log file Can be downloaded from http://sdrv.ms/Xxcmuu (skydrive) or https://www.box.com/s/jzdmgmdmz7xe47smalv2 (box) .
And here is my system info from Photoshop (I have a first generation I3 processor with intel HD graphics, which as I said was running fairly smooth before my problem started):

And as for the GPU crash I did not notice that in there before but I also didn't look for it because every time I looked before it wasn't there, and looking at the date that was when that I was rolling back\uninstalling\reinstalling\trying modded drivers, etc., Which is probably the reason why the gpu sniper crashed.
One interesting thing that you said was whether there is the same failure in a new design as opposed to an existing one. The answer to that is yes and no. To elaborate, when the program was working as it is supposed to eve and creating new lights and positioning them did not cause any slowdown despite the file that I was working on, but after the problem starts occurring it is like a snowball rolling down a hill. Every time I open the file (the one I was working on when the problem started to happen) to continue work on it be sluggish response of Photoshop is still there and only gets worse. If I start over on a new file the program will run much more smoothly, but will still had a slight amount of sluggishness with less intensive task whereas the more intensive task such as working with lights is still moderately sluggish but not to the extent as it was working in the previous file. As you said in your post it seems the father all along I get in my document the more pronounced and time consuming the freezes become. But nonetheless wants the problem has occurred it does not go away I can only lesson that by starting from scratch, which is not very convenient.
If you look at the process monitor log file linked in my first post and search through it pretty quickly you will see photoshop doing this
1-Operation: unknown Path:C:\
2-Operation: unknown Path:C:\Program Files
3-Operation: unknown Path:C:\Program Files\Adobe
4-Operation: unknown Path:C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Cs6 (64 bit)

3-Result: INVALIDATE PARAMETER
4-Result: INVALIDATE PARAMETER
5-Result: INVALIDATE PARAMETER
6-Result: NO SUCH FILE
7-Result: NAME NOT FOUND
It does this repeatedly over and over again, specifically when I tried to work with lights. The weird thing is that there is no directory in required called CgShaders. I see 1 CG.dll & 1 cgGL.dll in the Photoshop (64 bit) directory. To meet that just seems very strange and probably more than a coincidence and probably does not happen on everybody else's system.
This is the process monitor log file that I saved in csv format and edited the first three blocks so that it fit correctly. Open it up in wordpad and you'll see what I mean. This is what I was talking about right above.

FAQ: What are the known issues so far in Photoshop CS6 Beta
APPLICATION COEXISTENCE
Lightroom 4 Beta + Photoshop CS6 beta -- Editing the same video file simultanously in both applications may result in an error, crash, or blank (transparent) frames. You might see this Photoshop error: "Could not complete the Render Video command because of a problem with Adobe Media Encoder".
This will only be an issue with Lightroom 4 beta and Photoshop CS6 beta on the same system, editing the same video. The released versions will not have this issue.
Workaround: Upgrade to LR Release version (even if it's just the trial), or don't open the same file in both apps at the same time.
CS5 Help fails to launch after install of CS6
Workaround: Launch the stand alone "Adobe Help" application or reinstall CS5
CROP
Crop action shows wrong crop box.Playing an action with a crop step that has dialogs turned on results in a crop box that covers the entire canvas instead of the expected area.
Workaround: Ensure that the Crop Tool is selected before running the action or disable dialogs for the action.
FILTERS
(32bit OS only) Initial "Merge to HDR Pro" image display and result is black until settings are changed
Workaround: It will remain black until droplist in the "mode" line is selected, changed and activated, then action appears to be normal.
Bokeh color is different from preview after render at certain zoom levels on particular image patterns
Workaround: View image at 100%
Lighting effects bump map generates artifacts if an alpha channel bump map is used. The resulting preview and final image is artifacted across the gradiated areas of the alpha channel.
Workaround: Do not use a gradiated alpha channel as a bump map
Liquify will perform the filter and save to just part of the photo if you click cancel while it is "finishing processing" a large file.
LAYERS
If a vector layer has a center-aligned stroke combined with an inside-aligned layer style stroke, then that vector layer's stroke may not display correctly -- part of the vector layer stroke will disappear as the layer is moved around the image.
Workaround: Use the "Path Selection Tool" to move your vector around -- alternatively, Change the stroke alignment or remove underlying layers.
Dragging a selection box while layer filters are applied stops marquee selection from following cursor movement
Workaround: Even though the graphic of the selection marquee stops, the selection still happens. OR Turn off layer filtering before targeting the layers using a selection box
TYPE
Editing text attributes in the Character panel when the layer is locked can result in a crash
Workaround: Unlock your text layer prior to attribute adjustments in the Character panel
Setting the menu type>font>preview size to "huge" after opening a saved file caused photoshop to crash
Workaround: Uncheck Background save in Photoshop CS6
Style by example or definition not working as expected:
If any attribute in the Paragraph Panel is set and you create a new Paragraph Style, the new style is based on the default and the override is not cleared.
DRAWING AND PAINTING
Paint is offset with Grip Pen- if you select the Soft Low Density Airbrush Preset with Grip Pen paint with swicth facing right with a high tilt towards you the cursor shows the spray should be going up, but it sprays down.

PLUGINS
DUPLICATE PLUGINS CAUSE ISSUES ON MAC:
If you install duplicate plugins or point the additional plugins folder preferences to a duplicate set of plugins (such as, to an older version of Photoshop), then it is possible for odd Photoshop behavior, such as an inappropriate file extension to appear when saving files.
(example: while performing a "save as" to JPEG file type, the file format appears to change to .dcm)
In this case, there may be a duplicate "file formats" plugin that's populating the Save As file types list with duplicates of the same options.
If there are duplicate file format plugins installed, the Mac OS will remove the duplicates from the list, but you may still see the odd saving behavior.
Solution:
Remove the duplicate plugins.
If you are not sure if you have this issue, but are seeing odd behavior, you can check for duplicates by looking through the plugins listed in the Help > System Info dialog.

Message saying trial of PS CS6 beta expired,Content coming soon, stay tuned.
Workaround: re-launch photoshop CS6 beta. This issue should not happen anymore1. You can get full support for your camera by upgrading to Lightroom 4. But personally, I would wait for Lightroom 5 since it will be released shortly, probably within the next month. Lightroom 5 will work with Photoshop CS5. The only difference is that Lightroom will need to create a TIF or PSD file that contains all the changes you have made in Lightroom. That's not a big deal, in my opinion. That file has to be created at some point anyway whenever you use Photoshop.
2. Yes, Lightroom 4 will pass images back and forth between it and Photoshop.
3. The upgrade would not break Lightroom 3. It would essentially work the same as it does with your current setup.
4. If you purchase CS6 it is my understanding you will be allowed to use it indefinitely. This is not true of the Creative Cloud version. Support and updating for additional cameras will cease for CS6. Adobe has announced that they will make Camera Raw 8.1 so that it can be usable with CS6 as far as reading Lightroom adjustments. But any new controls will not be accessible.
5. So far, Adobe has indicated that they have no plans to making Lightroom a subscription-only offering.
You are asking your questions as though you are addressing Adobe directly. This is a User-to-user forum. I don't work for nor do I speak for Adobe. I am only giving you the information as I understand it. It seems to me that upgrading to Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 is a "safe" choice. None of us, not even Adobe, really knows what the future will bring. Technology changes so quickly anymore that everything we are doing right now could be obsolete in a matter of a very short period of time. As Adobe changes their marketing strategies I think it will probably motivate some people to look elsewhere. I have Photoshop CS6 and I'm going to upgrade to Lightroom 5. Then I will have to wait and see what develops after that. At any rate, I have tools that I can use for the foreseeable future. If I have to change at some point then I will do so. -
Photoshop cs6 won't open a pic in camera raw
I open photoshop cs6 and go to open. Select the file and then select camera raw and click open but it still opens in Photoshop. I close the file the go to open again but now every file are in light grey meaning I can't select the file to open it. So I have to close photoshop and re-open it and the same problems are happening again. Yesterday everything was totally fine, I changed nothing. I tried doing all the updates on the adobe software but still the same problems. So, I can't open camera raw, and can only open 1 file on Cs6.
If anyone had, know or had read something on that particular problem please let me know. It's very annoying and can't work with it anymore.
Thank you for your time.On a Mac I don't know which directory it should be in.
Camera Raw preferences: Bridge: menu Adobe Bridge/ Camera Raw preferences.
Inhere you can set the wished behavior for tiff. By default it shows tiffs
only in ACR when you choose to do so with right mouse click menu (open in
Camera Raw) or if the Tiff had earlier been altered in ACR, then it opens
automatically in ACR unless you choose not to do so.

Mac OSX Photoshop CS6 keep asking for serial number
Hi, I don't know why, but since few days ago, my photoshop CS6 started to pop up with the trial message and ask me to enter serial number. However, I'm on a one year subscription for photoshop CS6 only, there is no serial number.
I opened the software, and choosed "lincese this software" and then signed in with my adobe ID. After that, the message ask me for serial number. This didn't happen before.
My systme is :
Now it says I only have one day for the trial. Please help me to resolve this.
Thanks
Eric@CKPAD.co - The Adobe ID you are using to post here has never signed up for the Creative Cloud, not even a free/trial account. Are you using a different Adobe ID for a Creative Cloud subscription? If not this would be the correct behavior. The 30 day trial ends and you can either puchase a perpetual license (serial number) or a Creative Cloud subscription.
Feel free to follow up with me by email at [email protected] since I do not want you share private information like your email address in public forum. -
Photoshop CS6 memory leak when idle and nothing open
Photoshop CS6 runs away with memory after being used and then going idle. If I open up PS and leave it, it will be ok but as soon as I open any file it will go up in memory usage (which is normal) but when I close all files and hide PS the memory will stay high never goes back down. When I close PS and re-open (no files open) again it idles at 300Mb memory but when I open a file then close it and then hide/idle PS it raises and stays around 1.25-1.5 GB if not more.
I have tried to Purge All, and even hide all menus to no avail. I have even tried to close Suitcase (eleminiate any font issues) and still same problem. I am running PS bone stock, no extra plug-ins.
Any ideas on why it would be doing this would be greatly appreciated!
My Computer:
Photoshop 13.0.1
MacBookPro
OS 10.6.8
CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Mem: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
HD: 300GB (30GB Free)Photoshop is not supposed to free memory when you close documents -- that's normal, because the memory gets reused.
Yes, opening a file makes the memory usage go up - because space is needed for the document and it's window.
None of what you said describes a leak, and sounds like perfectly normal behavior. -
Photoshop CS6 Extended Slow Load ("Measuring Memory...")
Hi guys!
Sorry English is not my native language.
I am run Photoshop CS6 Extended 64-bit (from design premium) on Windows 7, 64-bit with 8GB RAM.
When I first start PS, it looks like it freeze on the text "Measuring Memory". If I wait for about 30 seconds, it will eventually load and everything works fine. No issues with Save for Web or anything.
I have read the other threads on this and tried all of these solutions:
Checked my ram in memtest (15 passes, no error)
Trash preferences and open again
Un-install and re-install (tried twice)
Updated PS to latest with Adobe Update
Reboot machine
This happen when I first run Windows, so lack of RAM is not the issue. I have no printers, other hard drive, or remote network drive attached to machine. Scratched disk is set to the boot disk (C:\)
If it help, Illustrator CS6 and InDesign CS6 load normally.
Do you have any suggestions to fix this? Thank you!
Richard MontouchetCongratulations on having such a huge amount of memory that it takes 30 seconds to measure it all! Just kidding - sorry.
You've done all the things a reasonable person would do... Some other things I might suggest are:
1. Check to ensure your display driver is up to date - go to the web site of the maker of your video card, not Microsoft.
2. Try disabling the Use Graphics Processor setting in Edit - Preferences - Performance, and restart Photoshop.
3. Remove any 3rd party plug-ins (reinstall won't remove plug-ins, so I thought I'd mention it).
4. Check to see if you have the same behavior with the 32 bit Photoshop as the 64 bit Photoshop.

On my MACbook pro retina display, OS X, I'm having a problem when running PHOTOSHOP CS6 extended where the spacebar doesn't move the selection of the marquee tool. I've deleted the preferences file and also reset tool(all) but to no avail. I've also searched every photoshop forum and searched on the web for solutions to this issue. No help found! Very frustrating. Is there a solution to this issue? If so, I certainly would appreciate knowing what it is.
Thank you,
frustrated PS userI don't know what to say. I see the same behavior on both my Mac and Windows editions of Photoshop.
I select the Marquee Tool, draw out my Marquee. If I need to move it, clicking and dragging inside the marquee using my Trackpad ddoes the trick.
If I want to resize the Marquee, Ctrl or left-clicking and choosing "Transform" allows me to resize it.
The tool above the Marquee is the Move Tool, but I don't see to need it for that.
I see the same behavior down to CS6. I certainly would like to know Spacebar does not work like that for me. -
Adobe Photoshop CS6 tries to open Bridge with deleted CS4?
After upgrading to Windows 8 on two computers with same CS6 Premium installed programs...the desktop is showing "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64bit)\ Photoshop.exe" when I try to move image from Bridge CS6 to Photoshop CS6 (No problems on the laptop - works fine there). So I'm assuming it is not Win 8 that is the problem but rather the file extention...and alas, I a tad afraid to fiddle with it. If someone can tell me how to change where Bridge is trying to move image...to.
Hi again, it appears now when I try to open a pdf document with Photoshop CS6 the dreaded “Photoshop CS4” shows up again. And of course there is no association for this program as it has been removed. Why Bridge CS6 would connect to that at all is beyond me. I changed all the extensions that had Photoshop (no CS info) to Photoshop CS6 in the Edit/Preferences but frankly I’ve no idea which extension refers to the conversion from PDF to PSD file. I was afraid to change it to ‘default’ (as it said changes would be permenant) as I’m not sure how Win8 has designated CS4 rather than CS6

Very slow Lightroom 4.4 to Photoshop CS6 in Windows 8
I have a problem with my Windows 8 computer. Please notice that on this computer I did not change any of the default settings in the operating system, it is a clean install of Windows 8. I have also installed the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom directly from my Adobe Application Manager software (I am a Creative Cloud member).
What happens is that I have to wait 30-50 seconds after I give, in Lightroom, the command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS6" (I have the software in Italian and I hope that this translation is correct. Here is the command that I am using:
The very strange thing that happens is that Photoshop opens fast (5 seconds, I have an SSD) and Lightroom is very fast too.
Here is the strange thing. Photoshop opens after I launch the command.
Then nothing seems to happen for 30-50 seconds (sometimes also more time). After this “long” period of time this error appears in Lightroom:
It says: "you can't modify this file because Photoshop CS6 can't be started". However, this is not true! Photoshop is running correctly, and it was running! This happens if Photoshop was started from Lightroom and if Photoshop was running before Lightroom command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS".
Another strange thing is that, after I press "OK" to this error message, the file immediately opens in Photoshop!
Please notice that this behavior happens also with a series of file. If, for example, I export 10 files from Lighroom, then, after about one minute, I get 10 error messages in Lightroom, and, when I press OK, the files will open in Photoshop (for each "OK" that I press a file opens, so I have to press 10 times OK to open my 10 files!).
This very strange behavior is eating my time and I am very disappointed! It is very difficult to get in touch with Adobe support and I decided to use this forum to get some help. After you pay monthly for the Cloud software you wish that a good support came included with what you pay, but it seems that this is not true!
Please help me if you can!Vittorio,
1. At this point my suggestion would be first to check are you the Admin of your system or not.
2. Try uninstall and Photoshop first and make sure you select the option Remove Preferences when you doing an uninstall.
3. After that try a fresh install of Photoshop.
4. If that doesnt help try uninstall and reinstall or LR & PS too by same way.

Photoshop CS6 clear anchor point
Hi
Small problem with paths :/
Clearing anchor point so that it's cuts the path line also to the next anchor (like point to point, cuts segment of path) not the whole path...
Sometimes it works using delete or backspace But no clue why does not always work ? and getting work is like F* hell
Is there some option or is it just CS6 problemSeems to be a systemic issue with Photoshop CS6.
The Direct Selection Tool is supposed to select one point in a path, but I find, like you, that it can get into a mode where it's as though all the other points are selected and remain selected. This leads to you deleting the entire path.
When it's working "correctly", clicking a point with the Direct Selection tool will make that path point black and show both handles, while the two points to either side will show as squares with a light center and only one handle exposed. Clicking another point will change the "focus" to that point, and make the prior selected point have a light square, indicating it's no longer selected. When it's working like this, I can delete one point.
But once I delete a point the behavior reverts to the bad one you're describing, where clicking on a point leaves all the points black and shows both handles of the point clicked AND any other ones clicked (sort of like if the shift key is down or something). At that time pressing Delete will clear all of the points - deleting the entire path.
As I don't use paths as much as some, so I've never thought to report it as a bug.
Edit: I've just reproduced the same behavior in Photoshop CS5. This implies it's some kind of "by design" modal behavior, and that my unfamiliarity with using Path tools may be showing.
I've noticed holding down the control key, clicking, then holding down the control key and clicking again seems to revert it to the "correct" behavior where only one point at a time gets the focus. Dragging a box around the point you want with the Direct Selection Tool also seems to net the proper behavior.
