Photoshop CS6 constantly becomes unresponsive
Someone, please help!
Whenever I open a document a document (large size / small size / lots of layers / very few layers) photoshop opens the document, about 70% of the file previews and the Mac rainbow wheel starts spinning and Photoshop becomes entirely unresponsive (I'm only the phone with tech support and will finish after I'm off the call — thanks in advance for your patience.
They want me to close all apps (including this one).

Primarily work on files on Networked Servers (4TB)
I've installed all updates
Trashed Prefs (worked better briefly)
Started disabling all 3rd Party Plugins (worked better briefly)
Once the file opens, it previews 3/4 of the image in the file, and the rainbow wheel starts spinning. Photoshop becomes unresponsive. If I go to the find and open the Force Quit box, it states that Photoshop is unresponsive. Then I wait. Up to 5 minutes, sometimes 10. Sometimes Photoshop becomes responsive again. Sometimes it doesn't. I've just lost so many hours of productivity over the last 2 months since my update to CS6. I upgraded from CS4 which was amazingly fast and responsive — even with numerous other apps open.
Do I just not have enough memory or free disc space? If I have other applications running, my "efficiency" plumits. If I "Purge All". It comes back up. Is CS6 that much more intensive than CS4? I just need to get things humming again. Any thoughts / Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is your Photoshop CS6 constantly crashing? Do you run Trillian?
I could simply not run CS6 without it crashing. It was so frustrating, and no one seemed to be able to help.
After tracing the error logs, and digging into Windows event viewer, turns out a Trillian dll was causing the errors. I turned off Trillian and Photoshop ran perfectly. Go figure.
I just wanted to offer some help to anyone else dealing with a constantly crashing CS6.

I too was experiencing crashes in Photoshop CS6 within moments of launching the program. Because I had recently upgraded to Windows 8, and also use multiple monitors with two types of video adapters; I had assumed the problem was hardware/driver related. I spent many hours waiting on hold with Adobe support, only to have them tell me they don't support multiple monitor setups. What a ridiculous thing, considering most graphic designers use more than one monitor. My display setup is particularly complex, with 5 monitors, some of which use USB video adapters.
None the less, I stumbled upon your post here, which immediately caught my eye for mentioning Trillian, which I do use. I thought it was odd to see Trillian mentioned, and took a look at your post. Fyi, I use the most recent version of Trillian in order to communicate on all my chat channels. That's what Trillian is for, instant messaging on many IM services from a single program.
Anyways, I turned off Trillian and started up Photoshop, and it was like magic... the crashes were gone! It had nothing to do with my hardware or multiple monitors. Unbelievable it was something so simple and seemingly random.
One thing I can add to this is that it seems to be a combination of Trillian and multiple displays, rather than Trillian alone. Earlier I ran a test with just one monitor, and Trillian was on, and Photoshop wasn't crashing. It must be the combination of the multiple displays with Trillian and Photoshop. So strange.

InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop 5.5 become unresponsive
Hi,
I hope someone can help with this. All my Creative Suite 5.5 Apps become unresponsive after they are idle for 10-15 minutes or so. I have to force quit every time. It is a major pain -- I can't really find anything on any of the boards about this.
I am running Snow Leopard on a MacMini 2 GHz Core 2 duo with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
I am using the latest version of Suitcase Fusion.
Any ideas?

Photoshop CS6 Constantly Crashing
Photoshop CS6 is crashing on me multiple times every day.

Crashes are not associated with one specific task. Crashes often occur when I set foreground/background color via the Tools Panel (after pressing Enter with the color picker open), but also when using the keyboard shortcut to resize canvas, or using the color picker to set text color. Seems like crashes occur most often when I’m using the color picker in various panels/tools or using a keyboard shortcut (e.g., when press “d” to set foreground/background colors to white/black, or Ctrl-Delete to fill with background color).
I have the most recent driver for my video card. I don’t have any third-party plugins. The only third-party extension installed is “GuideGuide”, which I uninstalled and it didn’t fix the problem (so I re-installed it). I tried resetting Photoshop preferences (moved “Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp” out of AppData folder, didn’t use the CTRL-SHIFT-ALT method while launching Photoshop).
I get one of two different error messages when Photoshop crashes, either 1) A standard Windows error saying Photoshop has stopped working, or 2) Runtime Error! R6025 – pure virtual function call.

I took a look at: Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters, and the only thing listed there is my graphics card (AMD Radeon R9 270). There's no listing for Intel HD Graphics xxx.
Since originally posting this problem I've purchased a new computer. Much to my disbelief I have the same problem on the new computer.

To reiterate the problem, there are 2 situations where Photoshop most often crashes:
1) Using the Tools Panel "set foreground/background color". With the Color Picker open, if set the color by sampling a color from artwork on the canvas, then click the "OK" button in the Color Picker, Photoshop often crashes.
2) Using the keyboard shortcut "D" to set the Tools Panel foreground and background colors to default. This often crashes Photoshop.
This problem really slows down my workflow. If anyone has any suggestions to resolve the problem it would be much appreciated.

Sorry to be obnoxious but it seems PS CS6 has a crashing problem and no one seems to have a solid cause. That's happening to me so I thought I would post the crash report to see if anyone can help. I would appreciate it immensly.
I've heard that font conflicts can ometimes cause this, but it happens no matter what I'm doing....font, no font, large files, small files, etc.

Bridge CS6 (64bit) becomes unresponsive
Bridge CS6 becomes untresponsive for general operation keys. Lasts for a minute. CS5 is OK. Waht do I do?
If you have Windows OS go to the video card manufacturer site and download the latest driver for your card.
It can also be unresponsive is the anti-virus is scanning the computer. Takes a lot of resources. -
Photoshop cs6 in completely unresponsive and glitchy in various ways
Examples of glitches include:
Unresponsive menu, when in a menu such as the file menu I need to click on the edit menu instead of just hover over it to change menus. This seems simple but it definetely disrupts work flow and shows that there is an evident problem.
I can't switch tools: If I say go into my select tool I can change which select tool I use. When using any other tool I can't use subtools either.
The brush tool makes single dots on my canvas. When I hold down my mouse and move it only a single dot is made. The only change I can make is if i repeatedly click and wiggle my mouse which can make random straight lines.
Zoom and pan doesn't work.
I have the trial edition of cs6 and I am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit edition and running the application as an administrator with full updatesStandard answer no. 1: Updtae your graphics driver or turn off graphics acceleration in your prefs. Solves 95% of these problems.

Photoshop cs6 constantly crashing mac/yosemite
Im running cs6 on a mac updated with Yosemite (all updates are completed on both CS6 and Yosemite)
Both of my iMacs have recently started crashing frequently and Im wondering how to fix this?

I took a look at: Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters, and the only thing listed there is my graphics card (AMD Radeon R9 270). There's no listing for Intel HD Graphics xxx.
Since originally posting this problem I've purchased a new computer. Much to my disbelief I have the same problem on the new computer.
This is my new computer info:
Adobe CS6
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz
RAM: 32 GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 270
To reiterate the problem, there are 2 situations where Photoshop most often crashes:
1) Using the Tools Panel "set foreground/background color". With the Color Picker open, if set the color by sampling a color from artwork on the canvas, then click the "OK" button in the Color Picker, Photoshop often crashes.
2) Using the keyboard shortcut "D" to set the Tools Panel foreground and background colors to default. This often crashes Photoshop.
This problem really slows down my workflow. If anyone has any suggestions to resolve the problem it would be much appreciated.

Why did my paintbrushes in photoshop cs6 suddenly become pixelated?
I was working on photoshop one day and I scooted my monitor forward and suddenly all the brushes became pixelated. I tested using Paint, Flash and Illustrator and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my monitor display, just something wrong with photoshop. The brushes all look like they're airbrushes or something when they're supposed to be smooth.

Photoshop CS6 - Quick Selection tool freezes Photoshop/ becomes unresponsive for minutes
After only two selections the tool becomes unresponsive for minutes.
I'm on a 2.6 Ghz retina MacBook Pro, 16 Gb RAM, and this in connection with an SSD should make this tool very good to use. Operating system: OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion", latest update.
Unfortunately, it seems to develop some kind of overload, during which you cannot use Photoshop at all. No commands like "undo selection", "quit", "close file" are accepted.
There is no beachball, no other signs that Photoshop is working on something.
Hint: it seems to happen when you option select (subtract from an existing selection).
Hint: the freeze can be shortened by a tool switch (has to be through clicking on a tool, keyboard commands are frozen as well)
Hint: the "subtract selection" move that caused the freeze appears after Photoshop comes back to life after a couple of minutes. The subtraction to the selection seems to be random, makes no sense, and is not the regular function of the tool.
First step after this freeze would be to undo the last selection, and continue working.
If you do several "add to selection" moves, they add up in a kind of waiting line. If you do the subtract from selection move, this doesn't work, and the freeze happens.
So far, I have not noticed the freeze when adding to a selection. Adding to a selection was always quick and instant. The bug must sit in the "subtract from selection" code.
On most freezes, the ants continue walking, I just had one (again with subtracting selection) where even the ants stopped walking.
I don't think it has anything to do with Photoshop working. I have used the quick selection tool regularly under CS5 on my old machine (which was a museum piece), and while I had to wait sometimes, it was never ground to a freeze/halt like the quick selection tool under CS6.Did this work before, or has it always been this way? Not a bug or everyone with your system would be complaining. Have not seen that.
If it has always worked that way a reset of preferences will probably not do anything.
A reset of preferences will reset to factory defaults, so you will have to reset to saved workspace.

Sometimes my keyboard becomes unresponsive when using Photoshop CS6, & I have to restart
Since I upgraded to Photoshop CS6, I've found that every once in a while the keyboard becomes unresponsive. I can't tell whether anything specific that I'm doing triggers it, but I'll be editing an image and will press a shortcut key and find it doesn't work. It doesn't happen when I first open up an image, but usually after I've been working for a while. As far as I can tell (it's pretty random) it seems to happen when I'm using a tool to apply an effect to an image, like this last time it happened when I'd been using the Spot Healing Brush repeatedly on a photograph. (Of course that could be correlation without causality, since I'm a big fan of the Spot Healing Brush and tend to use it quite a bit whenever I'm editing photos). Note that the modifier keys still function, but all of the letter and number keys are unresponsive.
Sometimes - and lately it seems like it happens always, there's a sound associated with the shut off. It's possible that the times I didn't hear the sound I had my speakers off. It's a brief clicking noise - and I don't think it's any of the built-in alert sounds on my Mac, since I just listened to all of them and I recall this sound being different - but the sound is definitely coming from my speakers and is not a mechanical sound from the machine. I have no idea what might be causing this. I saw someone complaining of this a couple of years ago, who thought it might have to do with a Wacom tablet. I own one, but don't always use it, and this happens even when I'm not using it. The only way I've found to get my keyboard responding again is to shut down Photoshop and restart.
I'm on a Macbook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, with 8GB Ram; I'm on OS X 10.7.4 (not quite ready to upgrade to Mountain Lion).Okay - it looks like I've solved my own problem after a few hours searching for related problems on the web. It's not a problem with Photoshop but with Mac OS X. The default "Universal Access" mouse and trackpad preferences were set to "Press the Option Key five times to turn Mouse Keys On or Off." So when I use a tool that I'm modifying with the option key, and I use it repeatedly five times in a row, I hear the clicking sound that means turn on "Mouse Keys" (and turn off the regular keys). Turn off that option, and the problem is solved!

Images in Bridge have suddenly become much brighter then when I call them into Photoshop CS6. My monitor is calbrated.
First go the Bridge / Camera Raw preferences.
Inhere under 'default image settings' are 4 options to put a checkmark in front.
If there is a checkmark in front of "apply auto tone adjustments' deselect it and try again.
Otherwise select one problem file and with right mouse click menu choose 'purge cache for selection'. If this works then go to menu tools / cache/ purge cache for folder.
If still in trouble could you provide more details about versions and OS and preferable a screenshot to clarify the problem more? -
Photoshop CS6 crashes constantly when selecting tools or saving
Like the title says, my CS6 keeps crashing constantly. Sometimes it's after I click a tooltip, sometimes it's when I save, sometimes it's when I use a keyboard shortcut. I get the same crash report every time:

I've reinstalled Photoshop twice as well with no developments.

My card (Radeon X 1300 / X 1550) is not listed in the "Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6" section.
If I go to Edit->Preferences->Performance, and mouse-over the "Graphics Processor Settings" section, it says "Photoshop detected an error in your display driver. Update or reinstall the driver and check Use Graphics Processor to retry".
Is there any way around this? -
Having issues with PhotoShop CS6 on a Windows 8 Pro laptop. Laptop is pretty beefy, so not a memory or resource issue. All other products work fine.
User was having problems when trying to save any change made to a photograph. Would go through the File Save As dialouge, but the file would not save and all menu's on the system would be greyed out. Have tried with both local and network files.
During investigating... Was told to change a preference, but as soon as a click through the menu to select the item I want to change, it 'beeps' and all menu's are again greyed out. Can't even ext the software via the file menu or the X. Have to open Task Manager and kill it from there.
When PhotoShop is unresponsive (all menu's greyed out) all other programs/apps on the laptop are fine.
Am not having any luck searching for a solution, hopefully someone else has encountered this and has a solution.

Photoshop CS5 becomes unresponsive when switching programs?
Photoshop CS5 becomes unresponsive if I switch to another program (ie acrobat, word, google chrome). The menu's still work, but pan, zoom, move, etc. have no effect on the image. I have to save and restart to make the program work correctly and it will do it again as soon as I switch to another window. I'm not sure what this issue would be called (maybe a redraw error), but does anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
Without system information nobody can advise specifically, but sounds like graphics issues. Update your graphics driver.
