Photoshop  CS6 freezes computer

Hi, Running 64bit Win 7 Dell Studion XPS system.  I originally installed the Master Suite, but it hung on the Acrobat X install.  So I went in and uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it.  All other programs in Suite work.  Installed a brand new shiny version, no upgrade, but do have 5.5 on the computer as well.
I have deleted the preferences, viewed the Plugin folder (none found) and am out of options to get this going.
I get to the Spash screen, shows loading plugins for a few seconds, then freezes the entire computer.  Unable to get to process screen so forced to shut down.  I've done this four times now and am out of options.
I am teaching this software on Tuesday and can't even get it up and running to practice with it.  Help!

Imagine, for a moment, that Photoshop exercises parts of your computer no other software does.  For example, the graphics processor.
Now imagine that video card manufacturers all are working at the very limits of human capability in pushing the envelope and making ever faster and more complex GPUs.  Display drivers do have bugs!
Have you looked to see if you can find an updated display driver on the web site of the maker of your video card?
Tip: If it's an ATI card, specifically seek Catalyst 12.6 - it's better and more reliable for Photoshop than their latest release, Catalyst 12.8.

  • Photoshop CS6 Freezes on launch - Windows 7 64bit

Photoshop CS6 Freezes when I lauch.
I'm in the process of recovering from a computer failure and am loading all my apps onto a new Windows 7 machine.
So far all apps but photoshop work properly
When the CS6 window appears and I attempt to do any operation, the program does not respond to the mouse and appears to be frozen.  I cannot close the program normally.
Am I missing a critical file??
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Bill

I just loaded the 32 bit version and now both 32bit and 64bit versions work.
    Sorry to bother you all.

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes upon opening

Running CS6 64-bit on a Windows 7 machine. Everything is updated, and it was working fine yesterday and every day before for the 2 months we've been running it on this machine. New today:
Open Photoshop and it opens the window but you can't click anything. It's like a pretty image file of what your PS experience would look like. Can't close it because even the little red X doesn't register as anything. Have to force quit from Task Manager. Restarted the system (full shut down, pause, start, not just a system restart).
Deleted the Preferences file and restarted the system. That kind of helped. Now we can open and click around for about 25 seconds. That's enough time to change my performance preferences and close the program before it freezes. So I did that and restarted the system. No change. I can also open the "open file" dialogue, but the second that opens, everything freezes back into that pretty picture of what it would look like if I were to be using PS.
Nothing else on the system freezes while PS is frozen. I can do webby stuff and work in other Adobe programs, check my email, dig around in my explorer, pretty much anything I want as long as it isn't PS.
Exception: If I open Bridge, I can use it just fine until I try to open a file from Bridge in Photoshop. Then both programs freeze until I force quit PS. After that, Bridge is happy again. If I try to use Bridge to run a PS process, I get the message window that PS is currently running another process, would I like to queue this one. No matter what I hit, everything gets angry until I force quit Photoshop.
I spoke to a nice man on the customer service line who was very good at reading suggestions like delete preferences or completely reinstall the suite from his list of fixes, but didn't seem to understand at all what I was asking him. So I turn to you, oh forum of knowledge. Anyone know how to fix this? We've reinstalled video drivers. We're currently trying running a repair off the Windows OS disk.
We would like to not have to uninstall and reinstall the whole suite. Everything else works great. AE is happy, Illustrator is happy, Bridge is happy so long as we don't make it talk to PS. If there's a way to just reinstall or run a repair on PS without affecting the rest of the suite, that would be an option too.

    Hello,
    I've got similar problem,
When I turn on my compagny computer everything is alright. Photoshop CS6 13.0 x32 start correctly. i can work on picture as expected.
But during the day, Photoshop doesn't want to open other file (any file).
I can work on with a picture that still open and save it, but can not open anything else.
    Restart Photoshop doesn't work.
I must reboot the computer to correct this and open other file.
I'm on windows 7 SP1 with administrator rights
No plugin installed, I'm a beginner with Photoshop
Can you help me please ?
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS6 freezing on Mac OS 10.6.8

Hi one of our Macs (OS 10.6.8) is freezing when we try using Marquee Selection or Feathering or Cut and Pasting in a PSD file using Photoshop CS6. Basically we have to hard reboot the Mac as we get no error message, just a locked up computer. All the other Macs are exactly the same but don't have this issue.
The file has no fonts in it, it is just an image with Layers that have no Effects. File size is 900MB.
All updates for both CS6 and Mac OS have been run and all is up to date.
    Please advise.

Here are the base specs (serial info deleted). We're running the file off the hard drive and there are no additonal plugins. We use a standard font library but as I said, file has no text/fonts in it. It's completely locking up while using the marquee selection tool.
Cleared user preferences too when starting PS.
Gonna try a fresh reinstall and see if that fixes it, if it doesn't I think there is something wrong with the Mac itself because we have 6 more identical machines and they are not having this issue.

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes in Windows 8

i run windows 8 and photoshop cs6 on two different computers. one computer runs it fine but on the other computer Photoshop freezes whenever I try to sav an image. Please Help

I can only tell you this:  I have Photoshop fully updated to 13.0.1 and it works just fine in Windows 8.  But I don't have the full Creative Suite as you do.
I really suspect there's something else gone wrong on your particular system, perhaps having to do with the display driver or something in particular you installed coincident with the installation of the Adobe updates.
On a hunch, does Photoshop get any better behaved if you do the following?
    1.  Go into Edit - Preferences - Performance.
    2.  Uncheck [  ] Use Graphics Processor.
    3.  OK out, then close and restart Photoshop.
I mention this because there are some known display driver problems with Windows 8, especially with ATI video cards/interfaces.
Best of luck in getting to the bottom of this.

  • Photoshop CS6 freeze the whole PC, Plz help

    Hi,
I came here after I got to a point where I feel hopeless in fixing my issue, I would totally appreciate the help.
Month ago, I installed Photoshop cs6 extended on my windows 8 machine. My probelm is simply the following; everytime I run cs6 my whole computer get frozen, so I have to go and force the shoutdown, like cutting the power. Sometimes I get lucky and photoshop works, then for some reason it freezes again.
I reinstalled it many times, I even reinstalled windows 8. I started to feel that this frequent crashes are even curropting my windows 8 files, in a point that windows 8 sometimes cant get to load from the first time so I hae to repair it. Windows 8 by the way works great with me, until I install and use photoshop. Now I have got a load of work that I cannot do because I cannot run Photoshop properly.
These are some informaiton about my PC:
    OS: Windows 8
    Application: Photoshop CS6 Extended
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 rev. 2.0
Video Card: Ati Radeon HD 5900
    VC Driver: AMD Catalyst 12.10
    # of screens: 3 screens ( 1920x1080, 1920x1080, 1024x768)
    RAM: 12 GB
    Processor: i7 X 980 3.33GHz
    Thanks for the help.

As Chris points out, PS is not going to cause a BSOD, though some of its functions can trigger them, basically by revealing a weakness, or underlying problem, not revealed by most of your other programs. One example might be bad RAM, that does not come into play with many other programs, or similar.
This article might be useful for tracking down the actual cause: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3465303#3465303. It also has links to some tools to help troubleshoot.
    Good luck,

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes when using Liquify filter

    Hi,
sorry for starting this topic again, but reading other discussions didn't help. THe problem is that Photoshop freezes when I use Liquify filter. It is enough just to open it and then click cancel - the Photoshop gets stucked immediately. I have never had such problem before, ran the whole Creative Suite 6 succesfully on my laptop, but after I reinstalled system using an old system image, it is not working properly.
I have Photoshop CS6, Windows 7 64 bit and I have Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 integrated and NVIDIA GeForce GT540M external graphics cards. I am forcing the laptop to use NVIDIA only for everything, also I force Photoshop itself to start with NVIDIA GPU. Nothing helped.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your help!

Is it possible the old system image had an old video card driver or you are not running the latest CS6 update? I would first check to be certain you have all the latest CS6 and video card updates.

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes when closing files

Photoshop CS6 running on Windows XP SP3. It freezes for 3:51 minutes when we close an image that we have switched to grayscale.
After some troubleshotting I discovered that the WebClient service would try to make an HTTP connection with our main file server. Becasue there is no web server running on the server, the client doesn't recieve any replies from it. The PC would make 11 attempts to make a connection each taking 21 seconds and durting this time Photoshop would be frozen. After the 11 attempts Photshop would unfreeze.
The workaround is to set the WebClient service to manual. Does anyone know how to configure Photoshop so it doesn't try to make HTTP connetions to our fileserver?
    Thanks in Advance
    Alex

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes before splash screen (Mavericks)

    13-inch MacBook Pro 2012 (June), 2.9GHz i7, 8GB of Apple RAM (no third-party RAM), 750GB drive, non-Retina display, OS X 10.9.1. In use for over a year under 10.8.x.
Creative Suite CS6 Production Premium (Academic License) installed. Upgraded from 10.8.5 where Photoshop CS6 ran successfully until upgrading to 10.9. Upgrading to 10.9.1 didn't help. Reverting to 10.8.5 fixes things. Adobe Drive has never been installed. Lightroom 4 is installed. Trial of InDesign CC is installed, and it was installed under 10.8.5, too.
Only Photoshop CS6 is affected; other CS6 apps in the suite work fine under 10.9.x. After upgrading to 10.9, Photoshop CS6 will work for maybe a day, then it will launch with a menu bar and menu choices, but none of them work. The Photoshop CS6 splash screen never appears.
It appears to be OS X user-account related. If a new OS X user is created, Photoshop CS6 works.
CS6 suite has been removed and reinstalled; no positive effect. Adobe's CS6 uninstaller has been downloaded and CS6 suite reinstalled; no positive effect. Photoshop .plist file has been deleted; no positive effect.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks!

Because Photoshop will launch successfully with a different OS X user account, can someone suggest which specific Console log(s) in both accounts to investigate (or search for the existence of) that may help diagnose why Photoshop won't launch?
    Additional behavior:
In the problematic account, Photoshop starts to launch, and its menus appear. Many menus are black, but when you select a menu choice (such as Photoshop > About Photoshop or File > Open), then all Photoshop menus and choices gray out. Then you have to force quit Photoshop.
However, if you first (while menu choices are still black) choose File > Open in Bridge CS6 (or words to that effect), then Bridge will open.
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes with attempts to change printer settings

(This problem also occurs with InDesign CS6, so I will post to that forum as well. First one to give me a solution gets my undying love and devotion appreciation.)
My employer acquired a Canon 6010 printer with a Fiery print controller last year. I have no problems printing from my personal Windows laptop.
However, from my employer's iMac (OS X 10.6.8) I get the spinning beach ball of death at least 90% of the time that I open an existing document and attempt to change the printer settings. The only way out is via Force Quit. Inexplicably I can occasionally succeed in changing printer settings. I think the record was having to force quit the application 11 times. Not sure - I quit counting.
So far our only semi-consistent work around: create a new document and copy and paste the contents from the existing document. Not cool. But sometimes the app freezes with brand new documents, thus destroying my work around anyway.
    Additional Information:
I have installed all CS6 upgrades.
Our technical support contractor recreated the problem and could not find any solution other than the work around.
Canon says the problem is with the applications.
This happens whether I attempt to change the printer settings immediately or make changes to the document first.
It does not matter what other applications are running.
Rebooting the system after the app freezes does not make it work.
We cannot upgrade past 10.6.8 because of the age of the hardware. But CS6 is supposed to run on Snow Leopard.
I have tested this with other applications, including some older Adobe software. It does not happen with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3, Acrobat 8 Pro, Acrobat 9 Pro or Acrobat XI Pro.
This happens whether the documents were created and saved on the Mac or on a Windows computer.
Re-saving the documents and/or printer settings does not change the outcome. Once I restart the application Photoshop may remember the paper size, but doesn't remember duplex settings. (From another thread in this forum I suspect a corrupt printer preferences file.)
Per the instructions in the other thread I reset the printing preferences by launching the app while holding down shift-control-command. That enabled me to change the printer settings one time. Every subsequent attempt brought back the spinning beach ball.
No other employees report similar problems (including a few MacBook users). However, they do not use Photoshop or InDesign, nor do they typically change printer settings.
Sorry if some of that is irrelevant - just trying to give you as much info as possible and tell you what I've tried already. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Bonnie

Nanneri, my situation is similar in that creating the PDF and printing from that does take longer than just printing from InDesign and Photoshop.
I finally got a Canon tech rep on site who understood my problem. Though we had tried reinstalling the drivers (as had previous Canon reps), this guy got it right. Neither Photoshop nor InDesign has locked up since - at least not for the Canon 6010. (Photoshop has locked up twice when I've attempted to print to a Canon iPF8300s wideformat that isn't on the Fiery. Restarting PS has fixed that.)
Based on my experience, I would start with new drivers.
FYI: I am having problems printing to a new Canon C7065 that also uses Fiery. But the problems vary and I haven't isolated the factors. Sometimes I get a printed error report. Sometimes it just doesn't print. But no more software lockups.
In our case, I suspected our problems were related to having old hardware that can't be upgraded past OS X 10.6.8, which is the oldest OS compatible with both CS6 and the Fiery. But since you are on a newer OS, and a different printer, I'm beginning to wonder about the Fiery.
Hope you find a solution soon. Keep us posted!

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes laptop when installing

Hello my  hp laptop keeps freezing when I'm installing photoshop. It comes halfway and then to the point where I can't even move my cursor and have to turn off my computer. This has happened several times, and I don't know whats causing this. I have a windows 7 computer, please help me.

Filelr I would recommend reviewing your installation log files to determine the exact error which you are receiving.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the log files at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.

  • Problem with Photoshop CS6 Freezing up when saving OSX Mavericks 10.9

I have a iMac we purchased last year (27inch, 32GB Ram, 512GB Flash Storage, OSX 10.9 Mavericks) with Adobe CS6 installed on it. About 2 months ago our Graphic Designer started having problems where when she went to save a Photoshop file the Mac would freeze up and just show the spinning pinwheel, after this happens we are unable to to even shut the system down and have to resort to holding the power button until it shuts off. Now this doesn't happen every time and we went almost a month with a problem but it has started back up and is happening multiple times a day. We have tried re installing CS6, creating a new profile for the user, deleting the library folder, saving to the desktop instead of a network location but nothing has seemed to do the trick. I'm a Windows Sysadmin so I'm out of my depths here and my poor Graphics Designer is getting really upset. Has anyone out there every had something like this happen??

    Hi Guys. Happy Xmas
My PSCS6 randomly frezees from 2-5 mins, for no apparent reason. Im so desperated right now, i don't what else to do.
This is what ive done so far and hasn't worked:
    - Downloaded and installed latest update via aplication manager
    - Reseted preferences.
    - Checked for corrupted fonts using the Font test cript, no damaged fonts.
    - Uninstalled 3rd party plugins. Not luck.
    - Updated Video drivers "Nvidia GTX 470". Still nothing
    - I've even unistalled PS and installed a fresh copy, back on and nothing.
Everything on my machine is up to date.

Thanx for your kind reply mates. And sorry for the late reply.
I've been trying to analize the windows event viewer as sugested, but couldn't find anything photoshop or process related.
But, after running Process explorer from SI, as sugested in bill's post, thanks by the way very informative and interesting stuff there, i came to find out that the exact "stack's process" causing my PSCS6 to lag is
"Photoshop.exe!??0_Mutex@std@@QAE@W4_Uninitialized@1@@Z+0xa25", i've been triying to find infornation related to this process or file but no luck, as i don't even know what this means.
This particular process is causing my ap to to randomly freeze or lag constantly. I'll really appreciate if some one, more experienced than me, could enlight me, or could help me fix my ap.
Thanx for your help, and happy new year.
