Photoshop CS6 Freezes on launch - Windows 7 64bit

Photoshop CS6 Freezes when I lauch.
I'm in the process of recovering from a computer failure and am loading all my apps onto a new Windows 7 machine.
So far all apps but photoshop work properly
When the CS6 window appears and I attempt to do any operation, the program does not respond to the mouse and appears to be frozen.  I cannot close the program normally.
Am I missing a critical file??
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

I just loaded the 32 bit version and now both 32bit and 64bit versions work.
Sorry to bother you all.

  • Photoshop CS6 freeze the whole PC, Plz help

    Hi,
I came here after I got to a point where I feel hopeless in fixing my issue, I would totally appreciate the help.
Month ago, I installed Photoshop cs6 extended on my windows 8 machine. My probelm is simply the following; everytime I run cs6 my whole computer get frozen, so I have to go and force the shoutdown, like cutting the power. Sometimes I get lucky and photoshop works, then for some reason it freezes again.
I reinstalled it many times, I even reinstalled windows 8. I started to feel that this frequent crashes are even curropting my windows 8 files, in a point that windows 8 sometimes cant get to load from the first time so I hae to repair it. Windows 8 by the way works great with me, until I install and use photoshop. Now I have got a load of work that I cannot do because I cannot run Photoshop properly.
These are some informaiton about my PC:
    OS: Windows 8
    Application: Photoshop CS6 Extended
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 rev. 2.0
Video Card: Ati Radeon HD 5900
    VC Driver: AMD Catalyst 12.10
    # of screens: 3 screens ( 1920x1080, 1920x1080, 1024x768)
    RAM: 12 GB
    Processor: i7 X 980 3.33GHz
    Thanks for the help.

As Chris points out, PS is not going to cause a BSOD, though some of its functions can trigger them, basically by revealing a weakness, or underlying problem, not revealed by most of your other programs. One example might be bad RAM, that does not come into play with many other programs, or similar.
This article might be useful for tracking down the actual cause: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3465303#3465303. It also has links to some tools to help troubleshoot.
    Good luck,

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes in Windows 8

i run windows 8 and photoshop cs6 on two different computers. one computer runs it fine but on the other computer Photoshop freezes whenever I try to sav an image. Please Help

I can only tell you this:  I have Photoshop fully updated to 13.0.1 and it works just fine in Windows 8.  But I don't have the full Creative Suite as you do.
I really suspect there's something else gone wrong on your particular system, perhaps having to do with the display driver or something in particular you installed coincident with the installation of the Adobe updates.
On a hunch, does Photoshop get any better behaved if you do the following?
    1.  Go into Edit - Preferences - Performance.
    2.  Uncheck [  ] Use Graphics Processor.
    3.  OK out, then close and restart Photoshop.
I mention this because there are some known display driver problems with Windows 8, especially with ATI video cards/interfaces.
Best of luck in getting to the bottom of this.

  • Photoshop CS6 won't launch and when it does it's really slow...help?

    Hi,
So my copy of Photoshop CS6 sometimes won't launch and when it does manage to launch fully, it's really slow. I mean ridiculously slow. The only times when I can get it to run even remotely quick is if I shut down my computer, and then restart it and then start up Photoshop CS6 as the first program. Even then it slows down after a while. (And I only have a firefox browser open usually, never more than a couple of tabs at once, so it's not a bandwidth issue)
    Here are my comp specs:
    Samsung
    Processor:
    AMD A6-3420M APU with
Radeon (Tm) HD graphics 1.50 ghz
    Installed Memory (RAM) - 4.00 (3.48 usable)
64 Bit operating System running on Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1
I also did just recently install the new update Adobe had for Photoshop, so that's up to date.
It's getting really frustrating! I have another program I'm using in the meantime (Paint tool Sai), but I'd really like to use Photoshop CS6.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you updated the drivers from AMD's website, not Microsoft.
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, not 32 bit.
Disable all third party plugins, and try disabling system utilities (we've seen font managers, antivirus, disk backup software, etc. cause slowdowns due to bugs in those utilities).

  • Indesign cs6 freezes/crashes on Windows 7 64 bit selecting desktop folder

    Dear All,
I'm experiencing a very strange behaviour of Indesign CS6 who freezes/closes in specific situations connected with desktop folder.
I try to explain the issue:
I got a brand new PC with Xeon CPU E3-1246 3.5 GHZ, 8 GB RAM, Windows 7 64bit and Clean installation of Indesign CS6.
Indesign works great and fast, but everytime I try to open a file (from file ---> open) and select the desktop folder the program stop thinking for 1 second than closes down without crashing, without errors without anything.
Same thing happens when I try to insert a picture in a frame selecting it from the desktop folder (only this folder, all the others work perfectly).
I couldn't find anything useful on the internet to solve this kind of problem.
Does anybody had the same problem? How did you solve that?
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes upon opening

Running CS6 64-bit on a Windows 7 machine. Everything is updated, and it was working fine yesterday and every day before for the 2 months we've been running it on this machine. New today:
Open Photoshop and it opens the window but you can't click anything. It's like a pretty image file of what your PS experience would look like. Can't close it because even the little red X doesn't register as anything. Have to force quit from Task Manager. Restarted the system (full shut down, pause, start, not just a system restart).
Deleted the Preferences file and restarted the system. That kind of helped. Now we can open and click around for about 25 seconds. That's enough time to change my performance preferences and close the program before it freezes. So I did that and restarted the system. No change. I can also open the "open file" dialogue, but the second that opens, everything freezes back into that pretty picture of what it would look like if I were to be using PS.
Nothing else on the system freezes while PS is frozen. I can do webby stuff and work in other Adobe programs, check my email, dig around in my explorer, pretty much anything I want as long as it isn't PS.
Exception: If I open Bridge, I can use it just fine until I try to open a file from Bridge in Photoshop. Then both programs freeze until I force quit PS. After that, Bridge is happy again. If I try to use Bridge to run a PS process, I get the message window that PS is currently running another process, would I like to queue this one. No matter what I hit, everything gets angry until I force quit Photoshop.
I spoke to a nice man on the customer service line who was very good at reading suggestions like delete preferences or completely reinstall the suite from his list of fixes, but didn't seem to understand at all what I was asking him. So I turn to you, oh forum of knowledge. Anyone know how to fix this? We've reinstalled video drivers. We're currently trying running a repair off the Windows OS disk.
We would like to not have to uninstall and reinstall the whole suite. Everything else works great. AE is happy, Illustrator is happy, Bridge is happy so long as we don't make it talk to PS. If there's a way to just reinstall or run a repair on PS without affecting the rest of the suite, that would be an option too.

    Hello,
    I've got similar problem,
When I turn on my compagny computer everything is alright. Photoshop CS6 13.0 x32 start correctly. i can work on picture as expected.
But during the day, Photoshop doesn't want to open other file (any file).
I can work on with a picture that still open and save it, but can not open anything else.
    Restart Photoshop doesn't work.
I must reboot the computer to correct this and open other file.
I'm on windows 7 SP1 with administrator rights
No plugin installed, I'm a beginner with Photoshop
Can you help me please ?
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS6 EXTENDED Install Error [WINDOWS] *error report included*

    Greetz,
I uninstalled Photoshop CS5.1 ME (Middle Eastern) version from my 64bit operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium) and went on to install CS6 EXTENDED after a fresh restart (I also deleted remaining CS5 folders in "Program Files' Adobe directory"). The setup went fine. But, when it finished, it gave an error message saying that Adobe Photoshop CS6 didn't install or didn't install correctly. From there, I copied the error report/log it gave out:
    Exit Code: 6

Photoshop started fine and worked fine (only used it a bit) after the "failed" installation but, the Update option in the Help window was grayed out (trial version, just to let you know). Is that a limitation to the trial version? Or is it straight up an error?
My question is, what did the error report mean and what could be wrong with my currently installed version of PS? BTW, I didn't use Mini Bridge yet, although all of its files are present in the Program Files directory for Adobe.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the reply. I will try the steps listed in the document you linked me to. In case any of the procedures works, I will mark your post as "Correct".
    Thank you, once again.

  • Photoshop CS6 very very slow (Windows 7)

Hi, im desperate as ive run out of options i think. Photoshop CS6 behaves slow, very slow.
Even with no document open, right after launch it reacts with delay on any mouseclick, sometimes it takes
more than 20 seconds before a menu pops open after clicking. Painting paintbrushes are impossible slow.
    Basically any action is dragged.
Its impossible to work like this. With all previous versions of PS i never encountered this.
    Things i tried :
    - turned off gpu acceleration (i read that gpu can cause performance issues, some ppl solved slowness by turning it off)
    - updated latest nvidia drivers
    - reinstalled photoshop
    - tried to inspect photoshop processes with ProcessHacker, even when at 5% cpu it runs extremely slow
    specs :
    Windows 7
    Nvidia GT545
1 terrabyte free scratch disk space (on C:)
    8 gb ram
    CPU i7 2600

Has it always run slow, or did this start recently?
What anti-virus are you using?  Have you tried disabling it to see it that make a difference?
Are you working over a network?

  • Photoshop cs6 install administrator error - Windows 7 64-bit

I have attempted installation of Photoshop CS6 repeatedly following a fresh installation of Windows 7 64-bit.  Initially running into the error stating Administrator Rights is required to run this upgrade image, I forced it to Run as Administrator.
I forced the installer to verify my Adobe ID at the "Sign In Required" page by selecting "Not your Adobe ID?), then entering my email address and password.
Following selection of both Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64Bit) and Adobe Photoshop CS6 (32Bit), and clicking Install, I receive the error:
    Setup.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).  Click OK to close the application
Once I click OK, the persistent Administrator error appears:
"Administrator privileges are required in install.  Please log in as an administrator."  I already am logged in as an administrator on this system.
Any solutions to these errors?  I have successfully installed, and ran, Photoshop CS6 on this system (as recently as 3 days ago, before the need to perform the total system wipe, and Windows 7 reinstall)

that's a microsoft error message which can have a number of causes and solutions.
the less likely to work but easy to implement:

  • Photoshop cs6 crashes after launch

    Hi All,
One of my users has had Photoshop CS6 installed pretty much since launch with no issues, however since last week just after launching a Windows error report pops up informing the user that it has crashed, however if the user simply moves the error report window to one side Photoshop will continue functioning normally, but as soon as "Don't Send/Dubug/Send Report" is pressed Photoshop closes.
Below is the error information taken from Event viewer - The machine is running XP SP3, 3GB RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 3600 Graphics card.

    What I've tried so far:-
    Updating the graphics driver.
    Reinstalling the application
    Clearing PS preferences.
Nothing on the machine has changed that I could see...which makes me stumped!
Any further info needed let me know
    Ian

    Hi,
The driver I've updated to is version 8.970.100.3000, with a date of 03/07/2012. The previous driver was released sometime in 2008, however as both exhibit the same behaviour on with the program I'd doubt that to be the cause.
A couple of updates went on last Tuesday, although the user only reported having issues from Friday and none seem related.
Generally users throughout the organisation are using XP, only one user within the organisation has CS6 and whilst I would like to see an upgraded platform accross the board, it is out of my hands.
As for the colour management setup - I'll get back to you when I next get access to the machine.
    Thanks,
    Ian

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes when using Liquify filter

    Hi,
sorry for starting this topic again, but reading other discussions didn't help. THe problem is that Photoshop freezes when I use Liquify filter. It is enough just to open it and then click cancel - the Photoshop gets stucked immediately. I have never had such problem before, ran the whole Creative Suite 6 succesfully on my laptop, but after I reinstalled system using an old system image, it is not working properly.
I have Photoshop CS6, Windows 7 64 bit and I have Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 integrated and NVIDIA GeForce GT540M external graphics cards. I am forcing the laptop to use NVIDIA only for everything, also I force Photoshop itself to start with NVIDIA GPU. Nothing helped.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your help!

Is it possible the old system image had an old video card driver or you are not running the latest CS6 update? I would first check to be certain you have all the latest CS6 and video card updates.

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes when closing files

Photoshop CS6 running on Windows XP SP3. It freezes for 3:51 minutes when we close an image that we have switched to grayscale.
After some troubleshotting I discovered that the WebClient service would try to make an HTTP connection with our main file server. Becasue there is no web server running on the server, the client doesn't recieve any replies from it. The PC would make 11 attempts to make a connection each taking 21 seconds and durting this time Photoshop would be frozen. After the 11 attempts Photshop would unfreeze.
The workaround is to set the WebClient service to manual. Does anyone know how to configure Photoshop so it doesn't try to make HTTP connetions to our fileserver?
    Thanks in Advance
    Alex

  • Photoshop CS6 Display issues - After Windows 8 upgrade

Just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro (64bit).  Now the background interface in Photoshop CS6 keeps changing when I click the image, the background, the layer and the crop tool.  I get transparent, black and various grey.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS CS6 with no change.  I did not have an issue in Windows 7.  The rest of CS6 runs fine. Can anybody help?  Thanks

What is the make and model of your video card?
What is the number and date of the installed video driver?
Is that the latest release from nVidia, or AMD/ATI?
If it is not the latest, go to the nVidia, or AMD/ATI Web site, plug in your card, and your OS, then download and install the latest driver. Test.
Do not trust Windows, or any utility to tell you if you have the latest driver. Verify that from the mfgr's. Web site.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
