Photoshop CS6 hardware accelleration with FirePro M6100, Quadro K3100M & Quadro K5100M
I'm going to buy a Dell M6800 Precision Mobile Workstation for my wife. I'm trying to decide whether to buy it with a FirePro M6100 video card or an NVidia Quadro K3100M video card. The M6100 seems to be more powerful and cost less than the K3100M. However, she'll be using the computer with Photoshop & Illustrator CS6. I've been reading that CS6 only supports video hardware acceleration with NVidia graphics cards with Cuda.
Does Photoshop & Illustrator CS6 support GPU Acceleration with the FirePro M6100? If so, do all features in Photoshop & Illustrator CS6 work with the M6100, or are there features that will only work with nVidia vidio cards?
Will GPU Acceleration be supported as installed? I just have a Dell M6800 with an NVidia Quadro K5100M graphics. I've installed CS6 Production Premium and had to add the Quadro K5100M video card to the "Cuda_Supported_Cards.txt" file in order to use the "Mercury Playback Engine (Hardware)" option. Is there a similar fix I'll need to apply for Photoshop CS6, or will GPU Acceleration work with the FirePro M6100 and Quadro K3100M as installed?
Chris,
I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I've been preoccupied with configuring a couple new computers and this is only one of the issues I've been dealing with.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Your answer coupled with the answers I got on the Premiere Pro forum helped me make a much better decision.
I decided to go with the FirePro M6100 for my wife's computer because most of her work is done in Photoshop & Illustrator CS6, and if she needs GPU acceleration in Premiere Pro CS6, she can use my computer.
Appreciatively,
Brian Scura...

Photoshop CS6/CC performance with Quadro 1000M/2000M vs. Radeon HD 7970M/8970M
I am trying to find any benchmarks on how these two GPUs compare for Photoshop work. Does anybody have any pointers to information or even subjective thoughts?
I am led to believe from my research that a number of the filters in CS5 are using OpenCL. For OpenCL the Radeon 7970M is far superior to the Quadros. However, I am not able to find information on the overall performance of the Quadros vs. the Radeons for Photoshop.
The work with Photoshop will be for static images - creation of images rather than manipulation of source.
I am looking to get a Thinkpad W530, but it only comes with the Quadro GPUs. If I do get it, will I be getting a slow machine for Photoshop 2D work, assuming that the Quadro's are really targeted at 3D CAD work?I don think Photoshop will stress any GPU it supports. For Photoshop make sure Adobe tested the GPU with the version of Photoshop your using. http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/tested-video-cards-photoshop-cs5.html
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html
If your also going to use the machine for gaming get the fastest GPU that also works with Photoshop. I did not see Quadro 1000 listed Quadro 2000 was listed in CS6 . Radeons HD 7000 series listed in CS6 list of texted GPU.

Photoshop CS6 64bit crashing with big psb files right after opening
Hi everybody,
I'm having big trouble since CS6 and I couldnt find andy help anywhere, thats why i have to ask here.
Problem discription:
Opening an 7gb 8bit psb file in PS CS6 64bit: PS opens the file and crashes immediately after showing the content (layers and image). an small error message is shown (but there is no description)
Sometimes it opens the file, and i can work in it, and when i try to save it (in background AND normal), PS just disappears without error message
My work around: If i open another small jpg first (in first tab) and then open the big psb, i dont get this problem. but actually i never had it open for very long since im kinda scared to put some work into this unstable system.
When doing this in PS CS6 32bit version, its pretty stable and i have no crash.
Funny thing is also, that one time I created a big file from like 20big tiffs in 16bit and could save it. All the time PS was running while creating stuff from scratch i didnt crashed. But after I saved the file and restarted PS, then he couldnt handle the file anymore and crashed like i said before.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you,
Stefan

Your files are so large (7gbs?) that you may be incurring problems with memory handling on your system due to hardware issues, OS issues or both.
In the real world most motherboards cannot stably use more than 16gbs of memory. Try removing RAM down to 16gbs and see if that improves stability. Google that if you do not believe me. You will not lose any performance, any may actually gain stability, going to dual channel memory using two instead of three slots.
Run a memory diagnostic, a complete version that may take several hours to run, to see if any of your RAM is defective. Before doing that make sure all your RAM modules are properly seated in their slots.
Install a second hard drive, offload as many files as you can to it and defragment your main hard drive (defragment it no matter what it reports about fragmentation).
In truth in the real world neither Windows or Mac OSancient can use more than 8gbs RAM--and motherboards rarely are stable with more than 16gbs of installed RAM-- so contiguous hard drive space remains important, particularly for very large files. Also regardless of how much hardware RAM you have Windows will preferentially default to the hard drive for virtual memory for some routine processes. If all your RAM is functioning well you may want to completely turn off virtual memory in Windows but overall machine stability may be problematic. Fortunately, unlike Photoshop, Windows will run stably with virutal memory on a secondary hard drive.
You have way too much RAM. Most studies show that Photoshop performance does not change once you get past just 4gbs of RAM, regardless of whether the OS or program is 32 or 64 bits.
So many Photoshop processes are single threaded so that regardless of how much RAM you have all the image data has to pass through one of the processor cores of your CPU. If you do not believe me look up those tests of performance with varying the RAM and varying the CPU: PS is a CPU dependent program despite Adobe's laudable but unstable use of the GPU to attempt parallel processing of image data.
All versions of Windows have finite resources for handling memory which files of your size may exceed. You should turn off any and all un-needed background programs and processes, including antivirus (unplug the network cable if you are paranoid). You may have to go to System Configuration to make sure memory/resource hogging programs don't load (e.g. anything referring to Itunes, Adobe reader, Microsoft Office). Look at the processes running with Task Manager and research what you can safely shut down.
Finally consider the fundamental cause of most repeated system crashes: failing power supply or failing hard drive (if your RAM passes tests). -

The GPU FAQ clearly talks that the GPU features cant work same as on the virtual drivers like the physcial machine which is why you see the redraw.
Feel free to read the link below which talks about the same.

Lightroom 4/Photoshop CS6 Hardware Considerations
I'm going to be building a kick *** processing machine for lightroom 4/Photoshop CS6 on Windows 7.
I'd like to know the optimum processing cores for CPU and optimum video cards. Is there a spec that I can find that will tell me how lightroom 4 and photoshop CS6 use CPU processing cores, ram and video cards.
What can you tell me?You will find more material regarding hardware on the Photoshop Forum.
Others will probably make recommendations for CPU. I have a quad Xeon and am happy with it - although it's not the latest Xeon.
RAM: With 12 GB you will be fine - unless you regularly work on huge image files in Photoshop. I have 12 GB and Lr rarely goes up to 10 GB.
I would recommend that you do some research for "workstations". Workstation computers are workhorses from the ground up including all hardware components. It's no use to have a fast processor and lots of RAM when the other hardware components can't keep up with speed or data throughput. Also workstation computers are built with expansion in mind - more RAM, slots for additional cards, etc.
Hard drives: Get a system with 3 internal drives; they don't need to be huge - 500 GB is fine. Get an SSD for your OS, Photoshop, and Lr.
If money is not an issue get all hard drives as SSDs. But don't skimp - a 40 GB SSD does you no good - it's way too small.
With today's RAM and CPU's it's the hard drives that are becoming the bottle neck. As you know conventional hard drives have spinning disks and the reading/writing takes time.
Lr is constantly reading / writing to the catalog; it also uses the Lr cache. If you have only one hard drive the read- and write cycles for Lr can pile up and your fine and expensive CPU sits idle waiting until the reading / writing is done. Keep in mind that your system also reads and writes to hard drive at the same time.
Therefore I use 3 internal drives: Drive C for OS, Photoshop, LR; drive D for Photoshop scratch disk, Lr cache, OS paging file; drive E for Lr catalog.
You probably want to use external hard drives. I recommend eSata drives: they are fast and reliable. So on your system you need at least one eSata outlet port - better two. If two are not available you can buy an eSata card (costs about $ 50) which gives you 2 outlets.
Video Card: don't get taken in by gaming cards. They're not what you want for Lr and Photoshop. Get a workstation class card that is designed to run 24/7.
Monitor: get the best and largest you can afford. Get a monitor specifically for photographers. And don't forget you monitor calibration; you need the hardware (spectrometer) and the software. Some monitors (Eizo, LaCie, Nec) come with hardware calibration. -
Is there any way I can download Adobe Photoshop CS6 trial version with my processor?
Hi, I do need to work on something with photoshop. I downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS6 trial version, the installation was fine, but
when I clicked on photoshop icon, a massage comes up, saying "You can't open the application Adobe Photoshop CS6, becase it is not supported on
this type of Mac"
I found information from here: http://www.adobe.com/au/products/photoshop/tech-specs.edu.html
Photoshop CS6 requires multicore intel processor with 64-bit support,
I guess mine isn't enough for this? I am using
Mac OS X 10.6.8
processor 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
Memory 2 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM
I tried to download another versions but, 10.6.8 only goes with CS6.
So is there any way I can get photoshop in this situation?? I really need to do something by using it!!!!Not the most helpful error message from the installer? No details on why the system was rejected? That's something I'd consider to be some amateur-level programming in the installer.
You don't have a 64-bit processor. Intel Core series is 32-bit. Intel Core 2 series (and later) is 64-bit.

Downloading Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended License with no internet connection
My office needs to purchase four (4) Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended Licenses for four separate/independent computers. These computers in no way can access the internet to download.
I am told by resellers that CD disks are not available for the download, is this correct?
Also, the resellers are telling me that I can purchase a media kit for the download. My question is can 1 media kit complete all four downloads or would I be required to purchase 4 media kits. We are receiving different responses from the resellers we have contacted.
Appreciate your time,
Stephanie Murphree
Contracting OfficerYou can download and burn the trial of Photoshop CS6 to disc or you can purchase one physical copy of the software. The installer does not count how many times you install. The serial number you receive with your purchase is what allows you to license and utilize your software.

Photoshop CS6 installation failing with Creative Cloud Subscription
I have a Creative Cloud subscription and I am having trouble installing Photoshop CS6 with the Adobe Application Manager. The application will download but when installing it gives me an Installation Failed error with the message "The download appears corrupted. Press Cancel, wait a few minutes and try again (-60)"
I am using a Macbook Pro 17" i7 8GB with Mac OSX 10.7.3.
When I look at the DLM_Native.log file using the Console I get a whole bunch of errors like the following.
[ERROR] | 7B2C1C2F-AC72-4B17-9D58-C9BC80BC9A07 | | | | | | Checksum validation failed for segment 510
[WARN] | 7B2C1C2F-AC72-4B17-9D58-C9BC80BC9A07 | | | | | | Some Error has come during download operation with Error type - -60, and Error Code - 417
I have about 60GB of free hard drive space, so I know I am not running out of space for installation.
I do not see an alternative way of downloading other than the Adobe Application Manager. If I go to my orders page on Adobe.com and click download for Photoshop CS6 it just opens the Application Manager and begins downloading from there.
I have downloaded and installed Illustrator and Flash Professional using the Application Manager without issue. Thanks for the quick response Jeff. I wonder if there's something else going on. All the other apps (Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver et al) downloaded and installed to the same location (Applications folder) no problem using the application manager. When I tried to use the download manager to download Photoshop separately, the download destination was set to the desktop, while logged in with administrator privileges. The .dmg downloaded without any apparent problems but generated a checksum error warning when I tried to expand it. I tried several times, had antivirus and Little Snitch turned off, tried again after restarting etc. to no avail.
Interestingly, my colleague experienced the exact same problems on his (Mac) system, which is running same OS.
I got around all this by downloading Photoshop from the CS6 direct download page using the link you provided, for which many thanks. -
Photoshop CS6 intermittently freezes with no error
Photoshop CS6 periodically freezes on my iMac running 10.9.5. It did the same thing on 10.9.4. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling; this did not help. I don't use any plug-ins and haven't modified Preferences. When it freezes, there is no error message, but I cannot move the main Photoshop window, nor can I click on any buttons or move sliders or use any of the options in panels. Curiously, I can pull down menus in the top menu bar (File, Edit, Image, etc.) but since these menu options open dialog boxes that are not functional, I'm pretty much dead-in-the-water.
If I open the Force Quit Applications window (Cmd-Option-Esc), Photoshop looks like it is running normally, i.e. it doesn't say "Not Responding". If I Force Quit anyway and restart, Photoshop behaves normally for a while (time varies) and then freezes again.
This behavior does not seem to be associated with any particular action or command that I can discern. If I don't Force Quit, then Photoshop eventually recovers on its own and starts working normally for awhile before freezing again. Anyone have suggestions for corrective steps?BOILERPLATE TEXT:

Photoshop CS6 have problems with my dual graphics card
I'm currently using photoshop cs6 on my laptop (hp pavilion dv4 3114 ), and this laptop has dual graphics cards(one is mobile intel hd graphics, the other one is ati hd 6750), it ususlly switches to the faster one when games are running or some software that requires a lot of graphic work. But this time I have already set in the graphics card profile to let photoshop use the faster one, but when I launch photoshop cs6 it tells me that the graphics card is not officially supported, as you can see this in the screenshot.
Then I turned to photoshop's preference(performence) and found it only identifies the mobile intel hd graphics. I'm currently using photoshop for designing large posters so performence is very important for me. Is anyone know how to solve this problem so that photoshop can run with the highest performence?II can't imagine how these computer companies expect to fully integrate GPUs from two different vendors, but they're trying. To me, knowing a bit about how display drivers are implemented, it seems an impossible task.
I hve heard (in the context of Macs that have this option) that disabling the low power options so that only the more powerful GPU is active can help. I don't know if that can apply to your system, but it might give you an idea of a place to start looking.
Another thing might be to try to find whatever settings it offers for "affinity" and set it so Photoshop and its cousins use just the ATI GPU exclusively. It might be the "switchover" process that is causing the problems.
Good luck.

Photoshop CS6 - files compatible with all CS versions?
I create designs with Photoshop CS6. Oftentimes they include clipping masks, layers, groups ... . Will my client be able to modify the design with every CS version? Are my designs (made with CS6) 100% compatible with very old CS versions, too? Or should he/she own a newer version of Photoshop CS?
Thank you much!Yes, you have to worry about compatibility. Groups within groups within groups have changed considerably over the years. Before CS3, you could even only have one group level at the root level of the document, no nested groups. That has been expanded ever since. Likewise, per-group masks, clipping paths and layer styles have only been introduced in CS5/ CS6. There's a couple of other things as well like CS6 having changed the order of certain layer styles, but you get the idea. I'm sure if you read some articles or the online help's "What's New" sections for each version, you wil lget the full picture. As long as you avoid these specialty cases and keep your document simple and save it with teh "Maximize Compatibility" option, most files should open in one way or another even in older versions, but there's simply no way to guarantee that each and every bit will be fully editable otehr than in the same version it was originally created.

Hey everybody,
Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporary disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware.
Graphics hardware enhancements can be enabled in the performance panel of preferences.
``performance panel``....not familiar with this? if this is in photoshop, It still shuts itself down immidiatly so I dunno what to doIt's trying to tell you that Photoshop encountered a problem with the display driver.
On Windows systems, you can download display driver updates from the web site of the maker of your video card. With Macs you pretty much have to get OS updates from Apple with new display drivers integrated within.
Which is it?
