Photoshop CS6 keeps freezing when I work with large files

I've had problems with Photoshop CS6 freezing on me and giving me RAM and Scratch Disk alerts/warnings ever since I upgraded to Windows 8. This usually only happens when I work with large files, however once I work with a large file, I can't seem to work with any file at all that day. Today however I have received my first error in which Photoshop says that it has stopped working. I thought that if I post this event info about the error, it might be of some help to someone to try to help me. The log info is as follows:

I really hope to hear from someone soon, my job requires me to work with Photoshop every day and I run into errors and bugs almost constantly and all of the help I've received so far from people in my office doesn't seem to make much difference at all. Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing when I try and change brush colour

Hi, my Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing when I try and change brush colour. I use layer masks a lot and consequently need to switch between black and white brushes. CS6 crashes a lot and gets closed by Windows 7 when I either click in the icon to swap brush colour or press the X keyboard shortcut. It's driving me crazy. I run Windows 7 on a high spec Dell PC. The problem has only started a couple of months ago, had CS6 since it came out. Can I advise me please? Thanks.

I have updated all adobe software so it's the latest build.. My computer is working fine, the only thing that crashes is DW.
Help?

This can be caused by a number of things. One of the easiest to test is external javascript files.
If you have any javascripts that are pointing to someone else's server, you can add a comment around them and see if that fixes the issue. It's always best to have a local copy of those files within your site vs relying on someons else's server to be up and running to make your site function.

If you don't have links to .js files similar to what I've explained, you can validate your code here: http://validator.w3.org/ and repair any errors
Invalid code can definitely cause some strange issues in DW.
If you don't have external links as explained and your code validates (or you fix all errors and still have the issue), there may be something else in the source causing problems. If you could post a link to an offending page online, we would be able to take a better look.

Working with Large files in Photoshop 10

I am taking pictures with a 4X5 large format film camera and scanning them at 3,000 DPI, which is creating extremely large files. My goal is to take them into Photoshop Elements 10 to cleanup, edit, merge photos together and so on. The cleanup tools don't seem to work that well on large files. My end result is to be able to send these pictures out to be printed at large sizes up to 40X60. How can I work in this environment and get the best print results?

You will need to work with 8bit files to get the benefit of all the editing tools in Elements.
I would suggest resizing at resolution of 300ppi although you can use much lower resolutions for really large prints that will be viewed from a distance e.g. hung on a gallery wall.
That should give you an image size of 12,000 x 18,000 pixels if the original aspect ratio is 2:3
Use the top menu:
Image >> Resize >> Image Size

You are stuck with giving PS less than 70% of the RAM resources or else you will starve computer and it may crash.
And if you run any other programs at the same time it takes more computer resources to keep everything running.
If running huge files you don't have many options. It may work better in CS5 or less as seems like every new version takes more horsepower, and CS6 sends a lot of work to the video card.

Photoshop CS6 - Screen flickering when using brushes with new MacAir 2013

A number of users experience severe screen flicker in Photoshop CS6 when using any of the larger brush type tools (cloning, eraser, brush, spot healing, burning, and dodging). As many on this thread are experiencing, it is awfull and unusable! The flicker is screen wide black boxes, sometimes the whole screen goes black. It only seems to happen when we put the cursor over the image to edit.

Looks like a CS6 is not compatible with teh new MacAir. Please look into this and advise.

An update:
I went to the Apple store and brought myself a more recent MacBook Air (13", 4/256 FYI, they were out of the 8/512 model). I can't reproduce *exactly* what you're showing, but got the flicker to happen by resizing the cursor. Also, while painting, the screen seems to stop updating except for the cursor -- not only is Photoshop unable to draw, but other applications stop drawing as well. And a few times it hasn't even updated the cursor (while all other apps seem frozen). That's not normal.
When I see the flickering, I frequently see the menubar and other UI elements draw at the wrong location on the LCD, then black, then redraw in the correct location -- repeat in different positions and lots of "static" until I stop changing the cursor. That's more evidence of a hardware or and odd driver issue. The odd thing is: it doesn't happen all the time. It's possible that the one we have at the office also shows the problem, but we didn't test long enough.
I'm trying to reach out to my hardware contacts at Apple - but it's a weekend before a holiday, so we may not make progress immediately.
One thing that would be useful here: the model of MacBook Air that you have that shows (or doesn't show) the problem.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing when I select Horizontal Type Tool, Rectangular Marquee Tool and Crop T

and probably more, but when you consider how little functionality the loss of those three buttons give me, you can understand how little use I am getting out of CS6 so far.
It makes no difference whether I use 32-bit or 64-bit.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a relatively new Toshiba Satellite C660-1LD with 2.53 gigahertz Intel Core i3 M 380 with 3892 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory* with onboard Intel(R) HD Graphics.

I sometimes get a message on load saying that Photoshop cannot find my 3D settings (although my Graphics card has 3D capability), but as I'm not using Photoshop's 3D editing tools, this is no issue to me at present.
Any other information I can give you, I will. As you can imagine, this is hugely frustrating, and making Photoshop unusable.

Two work-arounds for Siena when working with large files

MonaTech pointed out that Project Siena will crash when switching to the desktop or another app. I've also noticed this happening even when the monitor goes to sleep with inactivity. To be clear, this is *developing* in Siena, not after the app
you're working on has been compiled and installed.
The 'non-technical' work-around that has been successful for me is to split the screen before I switch to another app. It's not perfect but at least I can switch to another app (browser, desktop app, etc.) without losing where I'm at.

If you have a version of Visual Studio (that's not Express) it may do the trick for you.
FYI - In the post you'll see that Olivier responded and indicates that this is a known issue.

I have a Satellite Pro U400-160 and a VERBATIM external drive USB eSATA combo.
If I active the AHCI mode recognizes the disc but when copying video files or large size file, the system is frozen. However if I remove the AHCI mode works correctly. I have version 9.8.9.1023 Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager and my laptop BIOS v4.0 and SO Windows Vista Business.

I've proved the last drivers from the Intel website and the hard disk freeze.
Only works fine when in the BIOS I actived the SATA parameter with IDE mode X-(

Performance issue while working with large files.

Hello Gurus,
I have to upload about 1 million keys from a CSV file on the application server and then delete the entries from a DB table containing 18 million entries. This is causing performance problems and my programm is very slow. Which approach will be better?
1. First read all the data in the CSV and then use the delete statement?
2. Or delete each line directly after reading the key from the file?
And another program has to update about 2 million entries in a DB table containing 20 million entries. Here I also have very big performance problems(the program has been running for more the 14 hours). Which is the best way to work with such a large amount?
I tried to rewrite the program so that it will run parallel but since this program will only run once the costs of implementing a aRFC parallization are too big. Please help, maybe someone doing migration is good at this

I would suggest, you should split the files and then process each set.
lock the table to ensure it is available all time.
After each set ,do a commit and then proceed.
This would ensure there is no break in middle and have to start again by deleteing the entries from files which are already processed.
Also make use of the sorted table and keys when deleting/updating DB.
In Delete, when multiple entries are involved , use of an internal table might be tricky as some records may be successfully deleted and some maynot.
To make sure, first get the count of records from DB that are matching in Internal table set 1
Then do the delete from DB with the Internal tabel set 1
Again check the count from DB that are matching in Internal table set 1 and see the count is zero.
This would make sure the entire records are deleted. but again may add some performance
And the goal here is to reduce the execution time.
Gurus may have a better idea..

After upgrading to ios 5 Open In doesn't work with large files

With ios 4 I used to be able to download large video files >1 gb (avi, wmv, etc) using Downloads app and then Open In AV Player app. Now it doesn't work. What's the deal Apple?

Same problem here.

this seems to be a real bug when reading the topics there. First thought it was related to the apps I was using, but sems to be the iOS5..
hope this will be fixed in the next release.

Best way to work with large file?

Ok I have a huge file (200mb) that is all sequenes of numbers separate by commas. I wish to know if a specific sequence exists in this file. What is the best way of doing that check? I cant load the whole file into a StringBuffer since it is too large.

Well, it's not necessarily too large. You might be able to load it all into memory at once.
But you're right. It's not a good idea.
What you can do is use a StreamTokenizer set to split on commas.
Conceptually, you need to have a simple state machine that keeps track of how many consecutive numbers from that sequence you've read. As soon as you hit a number that's not the next one in the sequence, you reset to the beginning of the sequence.
It's not hard to write it yourself, but there might be a simpler way--one of the IO classes or regex classes might have something for processing a stream that way.

Photoshop CS6 (Mac) crashes when opening files with type or using the type tool

Hi,
Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing when using the type tool or when opening files with type on it. I've quit suitcase, disabled the suitcase plug-in, reset the preferences in Photoshop there's no crash report coming up either the application just dies! I am currently trying a system restore from time machine to see if that works!. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
