Photoshop CS6 no longer detects graphics driver

Hello,
For some reason, most of the GPU features in photoshop (scrubby zoom, 3d, etc) no longer works for me. When I checked in the Preference->Performance tab, nothing shows up on the "Detected Graphics Processor" tab. I have no idea what could've caused it other than a crash, and a windows 8.1 update. It used to work just fine, and now it just won't detect the driver no matter what.
I run Windows 8.1 64bit with NVIDIA GeForce GT720M as my graphics card. I believe my resolution/other specs are not a problem, since as I've said before it used to work just fine before the crash.
I have tried updating the driver, rollbacking the driver, updating it again, tinkering with the NVIDIA control panel, reinstalling photoshop, resetting photoshop preferences, everything. Nothing changed.
When I tried running the sniffer_gpu.exe, however, I was met with this message:
Could not connect. Error code = 0x80041002
Vendor string:         NVIDIA Corporation
Renderer string:     GeForceGT720M/PCIe/SSE2
Version string:        2.1.2
OpenGL version as determined by extensionator...
OpenGL Version 2.0
Has NPOT support: TRUE
Has Framebuffer Object Extension support: TRUE
OpenGL ok
Does the error code has anything to do with it? I tried updating the driver multiple times and it persists, and I've also tried renaming the sniffer_gpu.exe itself
Help would be much appreciated.. I've tried everything I could find online and nothing helped. Do tell if you need more info regarding my device. Thank you.

No, I've been using win 8.1 all along and it worked fine at first. One day the OS just froze though, forcing me to do a forced reset (pressing the power button). I don't really know if that was the cause, but it's one of the only 'major' things that happened that could've possibly caused the problem. That, or a win8.1 update.
I have just tried fixing registries too, but to no avail. I tried updating nvidia to the newest version, rollbacking and updating again, but I have actually yet to reinstall nvidia. I guess I'm going to do that now...
Edit: I missed some lines on the sniffer_gpu.exe output
OpenGL ok, version 1.1 CUDA 4.2.1
Return code: 3

  • Photoshop CS6 wont use my graphics card.

When I try to use the Oil Paint filter tool I receive an error claiming that an "uknown graphics processor error" had occured. I then checked under my preferences and Photoshop is not using the correct graphics card. Is there a way for me to fix this problem so that I can use photoshop? I have a switchable radeon graphics card in my computer and use catalyst control center to manage it.

  • Photoshop CS6 does not detect display adapter after upgrading to Windows 8

Hi, I just upgraded my 3 year old Dell XPS 16 which came with a AMD (ATI) Radeon HD 5730 (1GB) graphics card to Windows 8 (along with a new SSD hard drive), and reinstalled CS6, and now I get messages that the program is no longer detecting my dedicated graphics card. I updated the drivers from both Dell and AMD, and I get the same result. The Graphics Processor Seting box is greyed out in Preferences, and it says it detected an error in my display driver. Everything was fine with the same graphics card under Windows 7.
I suspect that when Windows 8 was installed it installed a generic AMD driver, and even though I have updated it from Dell and AMD several times, something is not quite right because I can't find the AMD Catalyst Control Center. So it might be a WIndows 8 & AMD issue, but I don't really know for sure.
If anyone has any ideas how to get the graphics driver working properly for CS6 I'd be very happy.
    Thanks

Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice.
I finally gave up and called Dell (thank god for my 3 year XPS warranty). Screen shared with a techncian who was surprisingly knowledgeable, and even though he tried updating different versions of the driver for about an hour, he finally suceeded when he went through this link on the AMD site, using the driver verification tool:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#1
    Then he downloaded the file:
    13-1_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql
He was finally able to load up Catalyst Control Center and the proper AMD driver. CS6 now sees the graphics adapter.
Hopefully this thread helps some other poor W8 upgrader like me.

  • Photoshop CS6 didn't detect my VGA after installing Catalyst 13.6

I have a ATI Radeon HD 5670 (640 sp version). Yesterday I updated my VGA driver from Catalyst 13.4 to Catalyst 13.6 (driver code 13.101) and Photoshop CS6 stopped detecting my VGA.  Now I can't enable any GPU-related features to improve the performance anymore. When I tried running sniffer_gpu in cmd, it reported correctly but the "system info" tool in Photoshop still didn't recognize my VGA. I tried rolling back to the old driver and even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop but the problem still persisted. Please help me
    My system:
    - Intel E2200
    - 2GB RAM
    - ATI Radeon HD 5670 640sp
    - Catalyst 13.6 (13.4)
    - Windows 7 pro 32 bit

Am I mistaken or does that screen shot say you are running an illegal, cracked version of Photoshop ("Portable") ?
Apologies in advance if I'm misreading the info.

  • Installing pre-purchased/pre-installed Photoshop CS6 CD without a CD Drive

How do I install my pre-purchased and pre-installed (on my primary desktop) Photoshop CS6 CD and Lightroom 4 CD onto my new MacBook Pro without a CD Drive? I just installed the Creative Cloud Installer per Adobe website instructions, but cannot find a link to download Photoshop or Lightroom using my Adobe ID/Password and my Product Key/Serial Number, etc.

Thanks Mylenium, that did the trick. I now have Photoshop CS6 installed.  Yaaay!
Unfortunately, I don't see Lightroom 4 on that CS6 download list, and if I go to: "If you don't see the product you're looking for, check our Downloads page" I end up going in circles with no link to download if you already own and have serial # etc.  Any ideas where this link may be?

  • Installation of Photoshop CS6 (Extended) on Case-Sensitive Drives

I understand that under the "system requirements" the Adobe website says that you can't install PS CS6 (Extended) on case-sensitive drives (I'm using a MacBook Pro, OS X v. 10.7.4).  This seems to have been the case at least since CS5.
I didn't see this, and I bought (quite excitedly) the update from CS PS5 (Extended) to PS6.  I had NO PROBLEM installing PS5 on this drive.
Of course, as other users have indicated, the installer refuses to let you install on a case-sensitive drive (e.g., no options to install on another disk).  There is also no mention that CS6 must be installed on the boot drive.
Requiring installation on the boot drive has serious implications for those of us who require case-sensitive drives for other work; I don't want to have to reboot from another drive when I use PS, and switch back and forth -- that's simply foolish.
From my point of view (as a user, granted), this is lazy programming, and this needs to be fixed ASAP.  At least in my case, I have a $400 lump of software just taking up space, when I want to be up to my eyeballs enjoying PS6 in all it's glory.
Outside an Adobe fix, I don't see a solution to this problem.  If I wipe my drive, format it as not case-sensitive, then I lose functionality for other critical work.  Further, I'm not sure that the process of  wiping the drive, formating it as non case-sensitive, and restoring everything from TimeMachine would even work (since the backup material is coming from a case-senstive drive and trying to go to a drive that is not case-sensitive).
The REALLY frustrating part is that I've installed Photoshop 3, 4, and 5 (and from much, much further back) on case-sensitive disks -- all with no problems.  It's only now that the issue smacks me in the face.
There's got to be a work-around, if not a "real" solution.
Whatever help you might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated; details can be sent to cdretk at gmail dot com.
I have hope, and I thank you in advance.

Whether it is Apple or Adobe's work flow isn't the issue.  Between the two
of them, if they are going to support both naming variants, then at both
    Adobe and Apple:
    1.  You MUST use the same case file names.  (E.g. FrameWorks and not
Frameworks) EVERY time.  And refer to them in your programs and
configuration files the same way EVERY time.
    2.  You may NOT in your development code use different but case invariant
    file names for different files.
    3.  Your libraries must do the Right Thing.
What gets me is that few others seem to have this problem.  Perhaps Adobe
needs to abandon Apple development software, and roll their own outside the
    standard system libaries.
Further searching shows that it is not a problem unique to Adobe.  The
games BeJeweled, and BZFlag have this issue, as does the Steam game support
    systems.
In every case I've run down to date, it has been a violation of #1.
Now there are workarounds:  A script that creates appropriate symlinks on
case sensitive file systems would be fairly easy.   It would impose some
    minor amount of extra overhead.
I bought a copy of Adobe Creative Suite.  I returned it unopened.  You lost
a sale.  Furthermore, until it is fixed, I will mention this at every
opportuity as an exampled of a combination of sloppy workmanship, and
customer indifference on the part of Adobe.
Tell your bosses, Chris, they need to fix this.
    Respectfully,

  • Photoshop CS6 only utilize Intel Graphics after NVIDIA upgrade

    Hey
After I upgraded the NVIDIA drivers (320.49) on a laptop with a geforce GT540M card,
photoshop now only displays the graphic device built in on the mainboard, the default
intel 3000. (im in preferences>performance>graphics processor settings)
How to get this to work and have PS utilize the proper graphics card?
Please don't reply "contact nvidia" because they say contact adobe. And
PS is the only software having problems after the upgrade, so I consider
    this a PS problem.
    Windows 8 + Photoshop Cs6 x64

If anyone have the same problem:
I finally figured this out, I had to right click on the PS icon and select
Run with graphics processor>High Performance NVIDIA
And set this as the default card to use. Now it works as it should again, thank god!

  • Photoshop CS6 trigger to Upgrade Graphics Card?

Photoshop CS6 beta release "the first version to integrate the company's GPU-accelerating Mercury Graphics Engine (MGE)".  Does this mean that I could expect speed benefits in Photoshop if I upgrade the NVIDIA 8800GT card in my early 2008 Mac Pro?
I have been wondering about whether I should upgrade my 8800GT for a while (my box is fine: new PSU, plenty of RAM) and thought if Photoshop will benefit that might be my prompt to act.

I have read from couple people at different times that 1GB VRAM is not enough and the "special" MVC 2.5GB GTX's have lots of... punch.
The 5770s is okay standard Mac Pro offering - two yrs ago = some had noisey fans but there have been 3 revisions since probably and they are and should be quiet.
Quiet and high performance do not always go togehter. One of the downfalls of the 8800GT is... they fail, and they don't have the best fan and cooling, they aren't dual-slot width in desgin. There are copper coolers but I wouldn't - it has just 512MB unless you got a custom flashed version.
OpenCL has improved but hard to develop, it needs too much work to optimize the code for one thing. And new compilers - great but will they get used to develop CUDA+OpenCL code?
Hope the Nvidia GTX 670 becvomes a real offering. At $399 it is actually in the same cost as a 5870 was.
A Quadro 4000 or whatever comes after it with 2GB is or should be considered as well. Yes?
64-bit kernel mode and 24GB RAM or more. 16GB and not using 64-bit mode may help from where you are of course, but might want to have more to get the most out of your system.
    Check www.macperformanceguide.com for ideas lately?

  • Photoshop (CS6 64Bit) wont detect GPU (GTX 590)

This just recently started happening, before it was fine. But now when I go to enable OpenGL, it says it doesn't detect my card (GTX 590). The drivers are updated as well. Is there a way to force photoshop to use OpenGL?

A driver update?  If windows, then check the driver's date in device manager.
301.42 was released on 22nd May, which sounds recent to me.
I am using a GTX570 but with a much earlier driver, and I have issues that I am aware of.

  • Photoshop CS6: How Long Will ACR Continue to be Updated to Support New Camera Models?

I have Photoshop CS6 and do not wish to update to Photoshop CC.
I see that Panasonic have recently announced the Lumix DMC-FZ1000, and it is rumoured that a Lumix DMC-LX8 will shortly be announced.
Should either of these cameras suit, will Adobe update the ACR version available for Photoshop CS6 users, so that these camera's RAW formats are supported in Photoshop CS6, in due course?
Edit: I see that Photoshop CS6 is still available to buy from Adobe, so I would assume that the ACR version available for Photoshop CS6 will continue to be updated to support new camera RAW formats, up until a short time after CS6 is eventually discontinued?

I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.
Time to come clean. You will feel better Verizon.
    Let's talk tomorrow.

  • "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS6" no longer works in Lightroom 5.3

I have LR5.3 and PS CS6. Since I've updated camera Raw (8.3 it think), my files won't open when I want to edit them in Photoshop from the “Edit in…” feature of Lightroom. I don't see the window saying "Open in PS with Lightroom edits" that would give me options whether I want to edit a copy or edit copy with changes etc...
I have searched extensively and have not found a resolution.  There is one thread that suggested something to do with addon for Photoshop and I checked all that stuff and there are no addons.  I recently moved to all Mac platform so this is pretty much a clean build.
It did work prior to updating Photoshop CS6 with the "check for updates" feature.  Once I did that it broke...

    Haucke, the behaviour is this:
if you want to edit a raw file in PS and the ACR version in PS is the same as the version in Lr that you are sending from the raw will be opened directly in PS with no prompts with Lightroom settings applied. It will be saved from PS as a TIFF or PSD as your preferences are made.
A non raw file will have the prompt for a new file with edits or the original.
So from what I understand you say you are seeing, Lightroom and PS are working as designed.
You can see from my screen shot here how this DNG is rendered from Lr into PS as a DNG.....
    Haucke wrote:
Actually I think you are mis-understanding what I am attempting to communicate...
Two weeks ago it was all working on my windows machine.  The prompt is necissary because it should be asking me if I want Lightroom edits or not after which it would send over a tiff or the other format depending on what I selected in preferences over to PS for editing. When I choose a photo in Lightroom that is Raw with Lightroom adjustments it should be asking me.  Either way Photoshop is opening but no photo comes up unless the original is jpg.  I used it in Windows 7 x64 and worked fine.  Worked fine with Mac prior to last update.  After last update it broke.
By the way, I am not a software engineer but have been involved with Lightroom since the first beta.... hopefully we can work together....

  • 2 probs,Neo2 no longer detects DVD drive in POST & Floppy slot missing pin? RMA?

Sorry for starting another thread but my first post wasnt very explanatory.
Here's my problems. My DVD/CD Drive is no longer being recognized by my motherboard in POST and it wont appear in Windows/My Computer. This started when I was troubleshooting what I thought was a faulty Floppy drive by reconnecting cables and reinstalling different chipset drivers. Somewhere during that stretch Windows froze during load for the first time in two weeks of ownership. Eventually I noticed not only is my floppy connection messed up (more on that in a bit) but my DVD drive was no longer showing up in My Computer. It powers on just fine, ejects properly. But the board isnt reading it for some reason.
I tried reconnecting the cable and rolling back to my original drivers. Checked if all the pins we're in the right place on the board and on the drive. I bought a new IDE round cable today to make sure the MSI round cable wasn't at fault. New cable didnt make a difference, still wont recognize the drive in POST or Windows. I cleared CMOS so the BIOS was reset, no difference. My HD is SATA so I cant test the IDE connection with a HD but its sounding more and more like the MoBo is the issue.
Is RMA my only recourse here? Would a IDE connection just go bad like that? Appreciate any suggestions on this, Id hate to RMA a board Ive barely used for 2 weeks.
As for the floppy I checked the slot on the board and sure enough I think Im missing a pin. The bottom row has the two empty pins, but the top row also has a pin missing which judging from the connection on the drive itself doesnt match up. There isnt supposed to be a pin missing on the top (right hand side) row correct?

I guess I jumped on the gun on the floppy missing a pin, thats indeed what it looks like. Thanks for that Supershanks. Perhaps my floppy problem is related to my IDE issue.
Thats correct, CMOS doesnt show it either. Ive tried both IDE slots, no dice. The new IDE cable I got has clear markers for System Board and Primary so Im pretty sure its configured correctly. I've had the BIOS at default since my drive was being detected just fine on the same settings before this went haywire. It just baffles me the connection would go on the fritz like this out of the blue.
Jon, it'll be my own by a Mr. Jack Daniels if I dont get this figured out soon.

Hi, I have an Hp pavilion desktop with a intel hd 4600. Whenever I open a psd I will get a dialog box explaining how I don't have sufficient vRAM. However, sometimes after selecting use graphics processor the program will say it stopped working and quit.

  • Photoshop CS6 scratch disk on hard drive or SSD?

I've purchased a Windows 7 PC with 16 MB RAM, 2 terabytes and a 250 GB SSD. I'm going to load Photoshop on the SSD and the OS on the hard drive. Where should the scratch disk go?

It's a bit tough to answer, as you have not described how you'll be using your system overall.  Are you going to be doing almost exclusively Photoshop work with it or are you looking for good all-around performance?
What brand and model SSD is it that you have, specifically?  Generally speaking, if it's a modern model SSD with wear-leveling features in its internal controller, and with the other givens you mentioned, you will probably want to use the SSD for scratch, as SSD throughput is very high (hundreds of megabytes per second).  With SSD throughput levels, when Photoshop starts using its scratch space heavily the performance hit is much less severe than with an HDD.  There is also not nearly as much concern with an SSD about dedicating the drive to the task, as even if there are other activities on the drive the near-zero latency means that SSD supports multitasking much better.
However, if you feel you'll never exceed 250GB for OS and applications (i.e., you're going to keep a relatively simple system), using the SSD for operating system and apps alike might be a better approach.  In that case there won't be enough space also for Photoshop scratch.
Just keep in mind, when planning your "this goes here, that goes there" distribution that Windows and its apps are really most comfortable with EVERYTHING running on drive C:.  That's not to say it's a necessity, just that things tend to work more smoothly in that setup.  Given that, you might actually consider getting a second SSD and making a RAID 0 array for drive C: with plenty of space available.  That's the approach I took (in my case with four SSDs).
