Photoshop (CS6 on Mac) file is locked.

After changing preferences, plug in views, etc I get a message the file is locked and changes won't be saved. Even after unlocking, adding myself as user with read/write priveleges, changes are not saved when PS is closed.
Help??

First thing to do is to trash your preferences while you re-launch Photoshop:
Preferences files vary by name and location for each version of Photoshop. Use this document to find or re-create preferences files for Photoshop CS6.
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.

Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.
Then Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility, and relaunch Photoshop.

I just got Photoshop CS6 Extended (Mac) and am unable to save files (eg .psd) as a .jpg -- if I select the JPEG option, although that is ticked, it appears in the filename above as .gif or .eps WHY?? Also, why do I have to select 'Enable' and scroll down a huge list to 'All Readable Documents' before I can open, say, a JPEG? Restoring/trashing the Preferences can alleviate some unexplainable Photoshop problems, but make sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved before performing that routine.

You can install and use Camera Raw 8.8 with OSX 10.8 Go to Help > Updates in Photoshop CS6

Photoshop CS6 stopped saving file extensions

I am running PhotoShop CS6 on Mac Yosemite 10.10.2. Photoshop suddenly stopped saving file extensions. I can open the files saved on my computer, but others cannot because the file extension is missing. Under preferences > file handling > append file extension, "always" is selected. It doesn't matter which file format PSD, JPEG, PNG, etc., the file extension is not saved. I have the capability to view the file, but if I send it to someone else, or if I save it to dropbox and download it back to my computer, the image cannot be viewed.

Try resetting the Photoshop preference file: Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

Tools Panel missing in Photoshop CS6 for Mac

I have been using Photoshop CS6 for Mac for about 6 mths. now. When I opened it yesterday to work on some photos, I noticed that my tools panel that is always located on the left side of my screen had disappeared. I have been unable to locate it anywhere. Also, the top of my photoshop page looks different. Any assistance that I could get would be greatly appreciated.

The CC Cleaner Tool assumes the Akamai Download Manager is activated and it has not. It seems to be the missing file that triggers the error message. \in a previous re-install I was prompted to download & install the Akamai Download Manger, but not this time. I just bought a new iMac and I would like to buy Adobe Photoshop CS6 for Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. I am NOT interested in the monthly subscription for Creative Cloud, so please don't even try and sell that to me. I was told by the place I bought my new iMac that Adobe would still sell me Photoshop CS6 if I contacted them. Since my new iMac does NOT have a CD/DVD-ROM drive, I would only be able to download the software. Been looking for one of your tutorials referencing the kind of problem I seem to be having, but haven't located it. It concerns Photoshop CS6 and saving files to jpeg when an image has been created using levels and layers. The problem is this:
Recently I got Photoshop CS6 and started using Layers. I put stars into a night sky. Followed basic proceedures starting with noise filters and reducing the number of stars through levels and screen settings etc, I created an image that started with thousands of stars to around a hundred or so. I added some light to the stars and some color, then saved it as a photoshop image. All fine. When I tried to save the image as a jpeg, some of the layers went missing and the final saved image contained all the thousands of stars I started with. Is this a bug in the program and if so is there a fix for it. If there is another way to get around this problem and allow me to save the image as a jpeg without losing layers, that would be fine as well. I've tried grouping layers and images together and other collective methods, but the end results are still the same. Layers go missing and the sky is filled with all the stars (noise filter settings), not the finished product.

Perpetual products which use serial numbers are platform specific. You will not be able to use the same serial on a windows machine.
In order to use Photoshop on both Windows and Mac you will have to go for a creative cloud subscription.
