Photoshop CS6 Save As Menu Issue

I am using Photoshop on an iMac running OS 10.9.4.
When I go to save an image using Save As I have to select the format below the one I want to use.  For example, in order to save an image as a JPEG I have to select JPEG 2000.  This is true for all the formats except .psd, .psb, and .tif.  I cannot save an image as a TIFF file because there is no selectable format below TIFF.
How do I get the Save As menu back to where I can click on the format I want to use instead of the one below it?
Thanks.

Is there any chance you copied plug-ins from an earlier version of Photoshop?  That can screw up the list of formats.
If so, you need to remove the copied plug-ins that were supplied by Adobe (i.e., you should have selectively copied only your third party plug-ins, or better yet installed them afresh).

  • Photoshop CS6 Save For Web UI extra border Bug

Last week we finally got upgraded to CS6, and I'm dissapointed to see the visual defect I reported in CS5.5 still exists in Photoshop CS6 Save for Web. The details and screenshots are all the same as in my previous thread. http://forums.adobe.com/message/3843054#3843054
Isn't there a way to fix this?  I rely on PhotoShop to be pixel perfect, not to add extra distracting lines and borders to my work.

FYI, just to test I just did a crop of an image, then screen grabbed the result.
To ensure the edge is visible, I changed the workspace background from the dark gray I usually use to a lighter gray...  Here's the pertinent part of the workspace...
A closeup of the upper-right corner:
Notably, I don't see any black line around it like you showed.  This leads me to wonder whether I interpreted your screen grab properly...

  • Photoshop CS6 saves the JPGs smaller than they appear in Photoshop...

Photoshop CS6 saves the jpgs smaller than they appear in Photoshop...
If I change a file in Photoshop to 72 dpi and scale it down to approximately 1-2 MB,
it is after saving as a JPG half the size than it was showed in Photoshop (350KB).
    WHY?
I have the operating system OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 on my Macbook.
    Can someone help me please???
    Eva

Jpeg is a lossy compression format. 1-2 MB is the uncompressed size.
What is lossless and lossy compression? - Definition from WhatIs.com
You can better see the effect in File > Save for Web. You can move the slider from 100% and see the effect on file size.

  • Double menu's in photoshop CS5 save as menu

    Hi,
my photoshop CS5 save dialog menu shows double ups of some of the file formats.
    2 BMP's, 2 compuserve gif's, 2 PNG's.
I have torn my hair out going through the Photoshop CS5 folder, but cant find the plug-ins any where.
can anyone give me a clue as to where they are hiding so I can get rid of them.
    regards, Sandy

    Hi, yes sounds right EXCPEPT...
have vetted ALL my photoshop plug-ins, nothing there.
external plug-in folder , been though that. only my Nik plug-in & filters there, and nothing hidden in them...
have used 'find file' program (that will look everywhere even in system files, found nothing.
there are two folders in ~library-application support-adobe-
that are for CS3 and CS4, un installed from my hard disk now I use CS5, but no plug-ins in there that could do that there either.
(wonder if I should delete these folders.??)
have also used 'file buddy' to look for any duplicates... nothing found (except a lot of image files)
so back to square one.. the enigma/puzzle continues...
    appreciate your thoughs and help.
by the way, I have never ever been able to find where the Targa plug in is either to get rid of it, as I dont use that and would like to shorten the menu.
no luck in searching for that, which makes me think that adobe have either made them 'invisible' in a folder, or built all into an unknown file/plug-in.?!?!?

  • Photoshop CS6: Save for Web Automatic Resize Issue

Some my .psd files (CS6 Photoshop, MAC OSX 10.7.5, Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7) automatically resize to a percentage. I can't figure out what the cause is, and it will not allow me to change it back to 100% to slice out images for web.
File Type is .psd - RGB 8 bit/color
Fie Dimensions are 1400px by 10,800px.
    File Size is 60MB
The file is extremely slow to open and adjust anything within the file as well, not sure if the issue is related.
I am working off of my desktop not off of a server.
Attached is the save for web issue.

I have the exact same issue, just on certain files?
I have to 'save as' instead of 'Save for Web'?
What causes this to happen?? I also have the preview window displaying a gif when I've got the PNG option selected???

  • Photoshop CS6 Save for Web not working

I am using photoshop CS6 (cloud) on Mac (10.7.5) and when I use the Save For Web > save, i got the following popup :
---- Adobe Save For Web Error ----
Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred.
I have been using CS6 for months and it worked fine yesterday before shutting done. Today morning at startup it was not working anymore.
I have tried to  uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop, clear my presets, shut down/started up, repair disk, repair permissions,... without succes.
The save for web function still works in CS5.
Any help will be very much appreciated,
    Raphaël K.

I found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
    1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
    2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
    3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.
Thank god. It took forever to get this cleared up!!

  • Photoshop CS6 and OS Mavericks Issue

I can't get photoshop cs6 to behave properly now that I've upgraded to OS Mavericks.  For that matter - I can't get InDesign or Illustrator CS6 to behave properly either.
When I use the File Open, File Save, and File Save As commands I immediately get the pinwheel that spins without end.  It doesn't matter if I use a shortcut key or a the pull-down menu.  I never get to a dialogue box.  The pinwheel immediately appears after "Comm + O."
I've searched the forums and can't find a solution that works.
    I've tried the following:
Removed all copies of CS5.1, CS5.5, and CS6.  Reinstalled all CS6 apps.
Updated all CS6 apps to the latest version
Verified that I'm running the latest approved Apple Java from Apple
    Updated my Wacom Drivers
Performed a repair permissions through Disk Utility
Unchecked "Displays have separate spaces" in Mission Control
    Rebooted several times
    Nothing has worked.  Any ideas?
I'm nearly to the point of using Time Machine and ditching OS Mavericks.

  • In Photoshop CS6 the 3D menu is grayed out

I have Photoshop CS6 13.0.1 x64 Extended and all options under the 3D manu are grayed out. My graphic adapter is nVidia GeForce GTX 650 (it has 1024 MB memory). I have Windows 7 x64 and 8GB RAM.
In Performance settings I have checked to use the graphic processor and in Advanced settings the drawing mode either Basic, Normal or Advanced, it doesn't make a difference.
The drivers for my graphic card are from February.
I just tried to create a 3D postcard and got this message:
Any clues why the 3D doesn't work and what can be done about it?
Here is a fragment of System Info regarding the display driver. The line with OpenCL Version is empty, although I have checked "Use OpenCL", could this be a problem?

I've made tests with four different 3rd party tools: OpenGL Extension Viewer, GPU Caps Viewer, Compute4Cash OpenCL Diagnostic Tool and Mudlord's Glide3x wrapper tester. All those tools report no problems with my video card driver and OpenGL/CL.
I have contacted nVidia and based on reports from the tools and visual tests from GPU Caps Viewer nVidia support doesn't see a problem with my driver.
I found sniffer_gpu.exe which according to Adobe Help pages is a kind of diagnostic tool and determines whether Photoshop uses the graphic card OpenCL or not. Here is the output:
    Device: 00000000002B1BE8 has video RAM(MB): 1023

    OpenCL ok, version=1.1 CUDA 4.2.1
    Return code: 3
From Adobe GPU Sniffer tool, it looks OK.
On the other hand, I have your word that there is no problem with Photoshop not recognizing OpenCL for my card and that nVidia driver has problems. Can you justify this somehow? Perhaps you could provide more details on technical level, or another utility to run and extract details, to at least identify the problem Photoshop has and hopefully solve it on either side.
P.S. During tests there were two things which I noticed, but they are probably not related to the issue:
    1. One tool reports the lack of Windows registry key SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows (NT)/CurrentVersion/OpenGLDrivers. But according to your previous statement, Photoshop only uses OS calls, no registry and according to nVidia, this key is not used in Windows 7.
    2. During some tests GPU Caps Viewer reports that "OpenCL CPU not supported on the selected platform". This is not complaining about GPU, only about CPU. But Photoshop is complaining about GPU, so it shouldn't be relevant.

  • In Photoshop CS6, Save for Web strips out my filename after a period "." character

I have a file named label-1.5oz.psd.  In Photoshop CS6 when I use "Save for Web" to save it as a JPG, it only wants to save a part of the filename: label-1.jpg
I strips out everything after the period "." character.  I know it's incorrectly thinking that's a file extension.
Any ideas how I can fix this?  Any settings I should tweak?  I'd really love for it to save the full filename without requiring me to retype the last part every time.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Oh if only it were that easy...  Unfortunately, they have to be cropped and resized, converting over from a print catalog where much of that work was originally done in InDesign, and now have to convert each individual image to make the web site look like the catalog...  but thanks for the suggestion, have already tried to automate what I could..  But much of this is going to be hands on...  getting my familiar quick keys to function correctly would help greatly.

  • Photoshop CS6 - 64 bit Optimus issue - SOLVED!

Photoshop CS6 64-bit will not run when Optimus is enabled on my W520 system The program works fine if I have discrete only set in the BIOS. Setting the default graphics adapter to NVIDIA GPU when using Optimus still has the problem. Anyone seen this issue before? CS6 Photoshop 32-bit runs OK under Optimus with the NVIDIA GPU set as default. I'm stumped so far. I searched the Adobe Support site and found nothing concerning this issue.
Update_1: I initially installed the latest NVIDIA driver from the W520 Driver Matrix. The NVIDIA level downleveled from 296.88 to 296.20, but CS6 started working properly. I then downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver 301.42 which was the level recommended by several graphics sites. The system is working smoothly now. CS6 will now use the OpenGL and acceleration features of the 2000M. BTW, my WEI changed from 6.5 to 6.6 with this driver. The 3D graphics still remains at 6.9.
Update_2: I encountered yet another anomaly with the display driver. I placed the system into Discrete Graphics and updated the display driver to 301.42. When I set the system back to Optimus, the CS6 programs could no longer access the NVIDIA GPU. I had to reinstall the 301.42 drivers again in Optimus mode to have everything back to full function. I switched back to Discrete mode to check if things were still working (they were) and then I returned to Optimus mode and the programs continued to function properly. There must be a sequence that requires Discrete updates first, and them=n Optimus, but I've never seen it documented.

Thanks for the update, yes initial checks reveals it is something to deal with Citrix. I was able to open the same image fine locally on Server, but when accessd via citrix it comes with Blue color.

  • Photoshop CS6 Tools and Cursor Issues with Mountain Lion

Am using Photoshop CS6 on iMac 27inch with Mountain Lion. Experiencing inability to use the move tool to place one image on another after extraction. I place the move tool on the previously extracted image and drag it into an new image, but the extracted image does not get placed on the new image. Also, cursor disappears frequently when using Photoshop for extended periods of time.
    Anyone having similar problems?

The cursor disappearing is a well known MacOS bug affecting all applications.
Have you installed all the updates for CS6?
And are you dragging from the layers palette, or from document to document?

  • Photoshop CS6 Show/Hide Polygons issue

Hi. I am doing an assignment for class, using Photoshop CS6, and I am having problems with the show/hide polygons feature. After hiding the polygons of the unselected area, I am able to reveal the entire object by choosing "Reveal All". However, if I ever need to invert the other polygons, by choosing 'Invert Visible", and then want to reveal the entire object again, all it does is inverts it back the other way around. Is this a bug, or is this how it works?

I apologize for the confusion. Let me try to start over, following the instructions you are asking to provide. The computer that has Photoshop installed is from school, so I will try the best I can giving you detailed specs. For what I know, It is a PC running Windows 7 64bit, but I do not know the amount of RAM as I do not have permission to access the control panel or any of its system settings. The version of Photoshop is CS6 13.0 Extended, and its performance preferences re the following...
    Available Ram: 34827MB
    IdealRange: 1884-2467MB
    Allow Photoshop to use: 2056MB
    HardDrive: 835GB
as for the error, there is no error. I might of not been specific, but I am not stupid not to include the type of error if there was any...
Other things like the grand total ram, video card, and video ram are all accessible by the administrator only.
the file I am working on, is an imported 3ds Max file. I was trying to use Photoshop's 3D painting tool, and from what I understand, it is possible to hide polygons by selecting an area you would like to keep, and what is not selected gets hidden. This is supposed to be good for painting areas that are behind parts of the mesh that is in the way. From the instruction, you are suppose to select the area that you want to keep, and then choose 3d->Show/Hide Polygons->Within Selection. This part I was able to do. Once I was happy with what I needed to paint, I then selected 3d->Show/Hide Polygons-> invert. This allowed me to continue painting other hard areas of the mesh by revealing what was hidden and hides what is visible. Then, when I was ready to reveal the entire mesh back, I was thinking that I should be able to do this by clicking on 3d->Show/Hide Polygon->Reveal All. However, this only reverts the visibility back the other way around as if I clicked on revert.
So what I was wondering is if this is how the 3d reveal all tool works or is this a bug?
I hope this clear things up, if not, please let me know.

  • Photoshop CS6 Save As PDF Creates Bad PDFs

I'm on a MacPro using the latest version of Lion, 10.8.3.
I'm trying to convert my .psd files (CS6 13.0.4 x64) into PDFs with embedded fonts, but if I do a Save As and select Photoshop PDF and then select High Quality Print, the resulting PDF files show text that appears to be partly corrupted, no matter what application I view them in.
Examples, first the original PSD file:
And here's how it looks as an exported Photoshop PDF:
The text that looks normal (starting with Holmes) can be selected, but the rest does not act normal at all.

  • Photoshop CS6 Colour Management Printing issue

    Hi,
We use Photoshop and 2 x Epson 9800 printers to print our images, we used to use CS4 and have recently upgraded to CS6.
We are having a problem with the “Colour Management” settings in the Printer Settings window. We choose for Photoshop to Manage Colours and select our ICC profile and Rendering Intent and Black Point. Our problem is that these settings reset each time we switch between our 2 printers back to “Photoshop Manages Colours” so we have keep selecting the same settings over and over again. This never happened on CS4.
How do we save these settings so that they do not reset each time we switch between printers.
I don’t think it has any relevance but we have our printer’s settings set to “No Colour Management” as the warning states.
    Kind Regards
    Steven

You possibly need to add the profiles for your printer first.
In LR select 'other' in the profile dropdown for the color managment. In the list check all the profiles you need for your printer.
When you select a printer profile in LR and let LR manage the colors make sure to turn off the color management in your printer driver settings.
