Photoshop CS6 Save for Web not working

I am using photoshop CS6 (cloud) on Mac (10.7.5) and when I use the Save For Web > save, i got the following popup :
---- Adobe Save For Web Error ----
Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred.
I have been using CS6 for months and it worked fine yesterday before shutting done. Today morning at startup it was not working anymore.
I have tried to  uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop, clear my presets, shut down/started up, repair disk, repair permissions,... without succes.
The save for web function still works in CS5.
Any help will be very much appreciated,
Raphaël K.

I found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.
Thank god. It took forever to get this cleared up!!

  • Photoshop CS6 Save For Web UI extra border Bug

Last week we finally got upgraded to CS6, and I'm dissapointed to see the visual defect I reported in CS5.5 still exists in Photoshop CS6 Save for Web. The details and screenshots are all the same as in my previous thread. http://forums.adobe.com/message/3843054#3843054
Isn't there a way to fix this?  I rely on PhotoShop to be pixel perfect, not to add extra distracting lines and borders to my work.

FYI, just to test I just did a crop of an image, then screen grabbed the result.
To ensure the edge is visible, I changed the workspace background from the dark gray I usually use to a lighter gray...  Here's the pertinent part of the workspace...
A closeup of the upper-right corner:
Notably, I don't see any black line around it like you showed.  This leads me to wonder whether I interpreted your screen grab properly...

  • Save for web not working on mac

    Hi Everyone,
I am giving photoshop elements 8 a trial but can't get the save for web to work.  When I click File -> Save for web it does nothing?
Does anyone have any suggestions why this would be the case?
I downloaded the trial today for Mac and have installed it twice with no joy.
    Cheers
    Luke

To do this, press and hold in the cmd + opt key and go through the menu and click File<Save For Web. A dialog will come up saying something like "Are you sure you want to erase all of the preferences for Save For Web". Click "Yes" to the dialog that comes up.
I just tried this. No dialog box appeared.
I am loading the software onto my MacBook Pro now, which is running 10.6. Hopefully I can use it on that machine, though I do a majority of my work on this one.
eta: The Save for Web dialog is appearing on my MacBook Pro.
Of course, now I can't get the Loop checkbox to toggle, or the Frame Delay to change for the animated GIF I am trying to create. *sigh* Now I shall start searching the forum for a solution to that problem.
    OK, I just found this:
Unfortunately this is broken in PSE 6 and PSE 8. You can tab into the frame delay box if you start above it someplace on that side of the screen, and it appears to let you change the rate, but your choice doesn't really affect the actual frame rate. The only workaround is to duplicate frame layers that you want to stay onscreen longer (so it will be changing just as fast, but not visibly).
Seriously? This is the MAIN REASON I bought PSE. To do animated GIFs. I can't believe that Adobe isn't bothering to fix this problem.

  • Save for web not working in photoshop CS4

When I upgraded to Lion it seems the 'save for web' capability in CS4 produces a 'this operation cannot be completed error'.......would be grateful for any ideas....

  • Photoshop CS6: Save for Web Automatic Resize Issue

Some my .psd files (CS6 Photoshop, MAC OSX 10.7.5, Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7) automatically resize to a percentage. I can't figure out what the cause is, and it will not allow me to change it back to 100% to slice out images for web.
File Type is .psd - RGB 8 bit/color
Fie Dimensions are 1400px by 10,800px.
    File Size is 60MB
The file is extremely slow to open and adjust anything within the file as well, not sure if the issue is related.
I am working off of my desktop not off of a server.
Attached is the save for web issue.

I have the exact same issue, just on certain files?
I have to 'save as' instead of 'Save for Web'?
What causes this to happen?? I also have the preview window displaying a gif when I've got the PNG option selected???

  • Color management in Save for Web not working

The Save for Web dialog box in the CS6 Beta is ignoring color profiles, so color is not managed. This has not been a problem in previous versions.

The saved output is just fine. I was referring to the images in the Save for Web dialogue
I just checked my settings. CS6 apparently changed my Preview setting from "Use Document Profile" to "Monitor Color." It also changed my Metadata setting. It should not do that!
Restoring the correct Preview setting solved the color management problem, but ONLY for the Preview image. The Original image is still not color managed.
I'm on a wide-gamut monitor, so sRGB images come out looking garish if there's no color profile embedded or it's ignored. That's what's happening here with the Original image in Save for Web. I imported an sRGB image with profile embedded, and it looks just fine in Photoshop while editing. Then I went to Save for Web, with the settings Embed Color Profile, Convert to sRGB, and Preview: Use Document Profile. The JPEG preview too looks just fine with these settings, but the Original looks garish, showing a lack of color management. The color in the two views is showing as completely different, though they both represent the same image with the same color profile embedded.
Going back to CS5, the same image is properly color managed in both Original and Preview. Both images show identical color, as they should.

  • In Photoshop CS6, Save for Web strips out my filename after a period "." character

I have a file named label-1.5oz.psd.  In Photoshop CS6 when I use "Save for Web" to save it as a JPG, it only wants to save a part of the filename: label-1.jpg
I strips out everything after the period "." character.  I know it's incorrectly thinking that's a file extension.
Any ideas how I can fix this?  Any settings I should tweak?  I'd really love for it to save the full filename without requiring me to retype the last part every time.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Oh if only it were that easy...  Unfortunately, they have to be cropped and resized, converting over from a print catalog where much of that work was originally done in InDesign, and now have to convert each individual image to make the web site look like the catalog...  but thanks for the suggestion, have already tried to automate what I could..  But much of this is going to be hands on...  getting my familiar quick keys to function correctly would help greatly.

  • "Save for Web" not working (again)

I have reinstalled Photoshop CC and removed all "save for Web" preference files.
I receive the following error message:
"The operation could not be completed. A file or directory already exists with the same name"
    Which file or directory?
Wouldn't it ask if I want to "overwrite" the file?
    Running
    Photoshop CC 14.2.1 x64
    Mac OSX 10.9.2
Before you roll your eyes and say "Watch the video" about removing preferences files - I have done all of that, in addition to reinstalling Photoshop CC twice.
It is the second time this has happened to me in a year. Now Illustrator is also misbehaving when I try to "Save for Web".
"Save for Web" is a really important feature for me - I am a freelancer doing graphics and web.
Anybody have any Ideas? Is this a common problem? Is Adobe working on it? Is it a Mavericks problem?
    Thanks...

Okay for anybody who is interested - the ONLY thing left for me to do - and what I have done -  is to create a new User account and copy all my files to the new account.
I did this by copying the files first to the "shared" folder in Users. - not simply by moving them but by copying them - Important!
There was a suggestion somewhere that you could delete the User with the problem, create a user with the same name and then reincorporate the old user data into the new account - this did not work for me.
Removing all the various Preferences mentioned in 3-4 similar posts from people with the same problem did not help.
I even contacted Adobe Customer Assistance (chat), they took over my screen and after trying the above and more, the only thing left that worked was for them to create a new User test account. This worked.
But what a botherto move everything! iTunes, iPhoto, Mail - they all have to be moved in a certain way (do your research).
Another tip - to be safe, I have kept the old account and maintained it as "Administrator" - and changed the password.
My new User (Where I moved my files to and will work out of) is not an Administrator account, and has a totally different password.
    I don't believe I was "hacked" - I think a log somewhere got corrupted.

  • Save for web not working for .PNG?

When I slice up a .psd file and then go file > save for web and select to save the images as .png it does not work for some reason. No matter what I select it only uses jpeg. I am using Photoshop CS2.
    Any suggestions?

As Zeno said, file format selection is per slice, not a global override. Select al lslices, then pick the PNG options.

  • Photoshop CS6 save for web some colors change?

I have a picture with large area of color: #fffdfd, when I save it for web (jpg) this color is changed to #fefcfd (in JPG).
I just can not save as JPG with #fffdfd.
(was trying uncheck convert to sRGB, do not embed color profile - always #fffdfd changes to #fefcfd when save for web)
However, color #fefcfd when save for web , does not change.
Why some colors change and some not? Is it a bug ?
    Window7 64bit, Photoshop CS6

Save for Web & Devices will strip some color data from the file.
Browsers aren't color managed. Most file formats on browsers assume they're sRGB. While Photoshop gives you an option of embedding sRGB to the document color space, it also strips off data that is not relevant. This is a common occurence.
PNG-24 on the other hand will give you the exact color match.
Also, Save for W&D, JPG quality matters a lot - The same color at Quality 10,20,30,40,50...100 wil give you different color reproductions on the JPG end output.
If you're concerned that much about an offset of +/- 1 hex value to your RGB colorspace, dont save for web & devices. Do a 'Save As' instead. Then use an image editing/ resizing application such as ResizeMe to resize the quality of your document. This, in most cases will retain colorspace information but just drop the resolution and quality of the image - giving you a lesser filesize.

  • 16.2.1 - save for web not working

I thought it was ME or some setting, and so I wasted an hour not getting web images. Save for Web LOOKS like it's working, but when I open those images up they are now at 300dpi. I need this to work. Has no one else encountered this?
    I'm on 10.8.5, 3.33 GHz 6-Core.

Did you post the name of the program you are using and I somehow missed it?

  • 14.2.1 update Save for Web not working

Opening up an image I made moments ago through Save for Web dialog (as a normal 'web' 72 dpi image) returns a 300dpi image every time. Not functioning. This happens every time since the update to 14.2.1. I thought it must be me somehow, but it is the software.
    I am running 10.8.5 on a 6-core 3.33 GHz

    Yes, I am serious.
When I want to save a JPEG that has a particular ppi value I use File - Save As.
So I ask again:  What is your use for your images that you're using Save for Web and care about the ppi?  Perhaps there's another way to get what you want rather than through Save For Web.
I'm not being critical - I promise.  I just thought maybe I could suggest alternatives.
    -Noel
P.S., The ppi normally doesn't matter when images are displayed on the web.  HTML usually is used to size images by pixels or points.

  • Save for Web not working on MacBook Pro

Just got a new MacBook Pro (OSX 10.5.7) and installed my CS3 Design Premium Premium, with PS Extened. Save for web window comes up fine and I can access and change any setting. The problem comes when I hit Return and the window pops up asking where to save the file. It doesn't let me click on anything or even hit Enter to let it save where is.
I've trashed the Save for web prefs and restarted PS without any luck.
    Any ideas? TIA.
    Mike

Trash your Photoshop preferences.  Refer to the FAQs if you don't know how.

  • PSE 8 MAC save for web not working

I upgrade from PSE6, and I used to use save for web all the time.  Since I upgraded to 8, when I click on save for web it does nothing, no error, just nothing.  I saw in the form were a user had the same issue with 6 and I tried deleting the files and fixing permissions etc.  Anyone else having this problem, or any suggestions?
    thanks,
    charles

I had the same issue. Running in a non-admin account I was unable to do a Save for Web. I switched to my admin account and it worked there. When I switched back to my non-admin account it now works ok. As an aside, same situation with changing the program icon for PSE 8.
