Photoshop CS6 Saving JPEGs as GIF's???
I am doubble clicking my .jpg images from Bridge CS6 into Photoshop CS6 to downsize the image and after i change the image to move across to a forum elsewhere.
The Save As" option gives me all the normal file. options, i click the drop down bar and select JPEG, and then automatically the .jpg image above turns into a .gif file???
I have closed out and tried resaving on several different images of mine and keep getting this .gif once selecting the JPEG, and- .gif setting if i select ok to go forward with the.gif.
I want to save as a simple
JPEG with a size 8 for web forum purpose.
Whats with this?
Please help with this, is it a bug??

To be perfectly clear, you CAN use the Extra Plug-ins Folder specification to point to a separate folder you've created where you have put ONLY your 3rd party plug-ins. It can be a neat way to help organize plug-ins, especially if you don't prefer to copy things into your Photoshop installation area.
Just don't point it anywhere in the installation area for another version of Photoshop.
The basic problem is that many folks, in trying to save time, choose to point their Extra Plug-ins Folder setting to the plug-ins subfolder inside their old Photoshop installation area, thinking that will just make them all available to the new version. The key thing is that the old versions of Photoshop ALSO had put their own Adobe-supplied plug-ins there. The conflict arises when the new version of Photoshop starts and tries to enumerate the plug-ins, including those found in the Extra Plug-ins Folder, it finds overlap between its own plug-ins and the old ones it finds there.

I have been trying to figure out if I made any accidental changes in Photoshop. So far I haven't found anything. That might simply mean that I don't know all of the places to look. I have called Adobe and been on the support websites and haven't gotten a clear answer. I save as a JPEG with an embedded color file sRGB. Any suggestions on where else to look for accidental changes?
Everyone seems to agree that iPhoto doesn't work well with Adobe and should be avoided in the workflow. Truly, I had no idea! I just like the simplicity. The Mac store never mentioned problems between the two but did offer to help me purchase Aperture. I will use Bridge from now on to view the images and manage folders.

I recently updated photoshop CS6 and now I can only use the "save as" option. What did I do wrong?

Please provide the potentially relevant information (exact Photoshop version, OS, hardware, saving across network vs. saving locally, error message, …).
When confronted with strange behaviour in Photoshop one can always try trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences one has changed.

Any idea how to make the quality better?
I mean when I export the image through SaveforWeb the quality is fine, but if i run it through the script the quality is poor.
I need the output file in GIF, so other filetypes are not a good solution. Also, I need to save the document without opening the save as dialog, hence the export document.

Images that automatically opens in Photoshop CS6
Two images opens every time I start Photoshop CS6. Even if I close them they are back the next time I start Photoshop. How do I get rid of them?
Which operating system are you using?
Probably the Recovery Images that photoshop cs6 saved when photoshop cs6 crashed.
Look for the images in the following places and then you can delete them
windows
C:\Users\[Your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\AutoRecover
mac
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/AutoRecover
You should also be able to right click on one of the image tabs and select either Reveal in Explorer or Reveal in Finder -
Images saved in Photoshop CS6 as PNG or jpeg won't open on Windows computers
I recently saved an image on Photoshop CS6 as a PNG file so I could send it as an attachment to a client (who uses a Windows computer). They told me the file wouldn't open and instead showed as an "Unknown File".
I tried opening the file on my Windows computer, as well as a JPEG version to test out, but both came up as "Unknown Files".
The only way I could transfer the files I saved in Photoshop was to export them as PNG through the 'Preview' application.
Is there a reason why these normal formats won't open properly? -
Jpeg file not saved and readable by photoshop cs6
I saved a file as a jpeg in photoshop cs6 and now its not a jpeg and photoshop won't reopen it. How do I get it opened and make it a jpeg? Why did this happen?
Does it have the JPG file extension? If not, try changing it manualy.
Does it open in other apps, and do so without any corruption? (Green or other colloured rectangles on the image). -
Saving files in Photoshop CS6 Extended (Mac)
I just got Photoshop CS6 Extended (Mac) and am unable to save files (eg .psd) as a .jpg -- if I select the JPEG option, although that is ticked, it appears in the filename above as .gif or .eps WHY?? Also, why do I have to select 'Enable' and scroll down a huge list to 'All Readable Documents' before I can open, say, a JPEG? I've never had to do this in previous versions (and I've been using PS since v.2 -- not CS2 -- !) I am in RGB and 8-bit and the images are flattened. This is most frustrating. . .
Restoring/trashing the Preferences can alleviate some unexplainable Photoshop problems, but make sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved before performing that routine.

Photoshop cs6 hangs when saving file
Photoshop cs6 is hanging when tyring to save. Seems to pause at 83% and then takes over a minute to save the file. Computer details below and the system info. Gone back to using cs5.5 for now, hoping someone has some idea where the issue might be.

Yes, I know this is more of a pain than doing it directly. It hampers the workflow. All I can say is this: Sometimes doing things the right way vs. the most convenient (but wrong) way is a little more difficult, but provides benefits. Consider that if you utterly screw up and save the screwup to your local copy, you can always easily retrieve the copy on the server again and start over.
Hey, if it was up to me I'd make Photoshop robust enough to save to a server all day, but it's not. Adobe says not to save to a server. There's a reason they say that.

Saving after Editing in Photoshop CS6
I have iPhoto 11 set so that all of my editing occurs in Photoshop CS6. Photos open in camera raw, I can make further edits in PS, etc. But a problem arrises when it is time to save the changes. I use the "Save" function and not "Save As". At this point the dialogue box defaults to save the .psd file. I have changed this to .jpeg. Then, when I hit save and closed PS, the edits do not appear in iPhoto. So, I tried again and didn't change the file type. Again, no edits appearing in iPhoto. I do, however, find the newly saved jpeg and .psd files in my library subdirectory (from where I've then dragged them to the desktop and then re-imported them into iPhoto).
What I've discvored, when looking at the directory to where PS is attempting to save, is that I'm working with a .CR2 file out of iPhoto. I realize this is a camera raw formatted file. So, I then attempted to save the edited file with this same name/naming convention, but PS won't allow me to do that. There is a "Photoshop Raw" file option, but nothing that says ".CR2"
So, my question is, what's the workflow solution with iPhoto 11 and Photoshop CS6 so that, when saving, my photos will appear as edited in iPhoto and retain the option to revert to the original file without having to save duplicates, etc. to the desktop and re-importing? For the record, I was always able to do this, simply, with previous versions of iPhoto and CS4. But, now that I've upgraded to both iPhoto 11 and CS6, I'm having this problem.Correct. Especially since iPhoto 11
iPhoto and Aperture (and Lightroom) work in much the same way. The image is never touched. When you process it your decisions are saved in the database and applied to the image as you view it live.
The thumbnail is updated. There is no "modified" file in iPhoto 11. There is a Preview - a shortcut to save you exporting for many common uses - email, uploading etc.
Raw shots present a problem. For start, they're not really a file, just a dump of (almost) all the data from the camera sensor. If you shoot Jpeg the camera takes this data and processes it (i.e. makes editorial decisions) and saves the images as a Jpeg.
If you shoot Raw its because you want to make those editorial decisions yourself. You think that you can get better results, or ones that you prefer, by performing the same process on your computer.
So you import the Raw data to your computer and start making editorial decisions.
If you're using iPhoto (or Aperture or Lightroom) those decisions are recorded in the application's database. Want to view the Photo? Then iPhoto will show you the Raw plus your decisons. That's why it's lossless. Change your mind about something, all that's changing is the entry in the database. The original image is untouched.
Next problem... you can't do anything with a Raw. Can't print it, upload it, share it in edited form etc. To do any of these things you must have a version in the common image formats: Jpeg, Tiff etc
So, now you have a Raw, and a version that is made from that Raw.
Strictly speaking, to get that version you have to export - Basically, save this edited Raw as... something.
iPhoto (and Aperture) have a handy shortcut for this - Previews. It's a "good-enough-for-most-things" version. It saves you having to tediously export every single photo of your girlfriend's mother's cat. You can just email her the Preview.
And if you change your decisions about the Raw: the entry in the database changes and the Preview is destroyed and a new one created automatically, reflecting the new version of the shot.
(And note too: this is the case with Jpegs as well. And every version of iPhoto since iPhoto08 has used the Modified version in the same way. The modified version doesn't exist at all in iPhoto 11)
And the difference between iPhoto and Aperture or Lightroom - just more fine control over the process.
So, yes, iPhoto 11 performs true lossless editing.

Can anyone give me suggestions .. after creating a "logo" or a "header" to be used by someone else in a presentation or report.. I can't figure out how to make the background transparent, and keep the image clear. Created in CS6 Illustrator.. tried opening in Photoshop and saving as JPEG.. no luck.
Have you tried exporting for MS Office?
You could also try exporting as transparent PNG with 144 ppi.
On top of that: don't scale it in Office. -

What does your package include besides this disc?
If your artistry and production are at a high-level and you are charging tens of thousands of dollars then protecting your reputation and future-sales possibilities by not giving them a disc might be wise, but if you just want to be done with things after you get paid, then a disc or flash-drive of native-resolution (not resized) and uncropped JPGs might give the most freedom for the client, although if I was your client, I’d want the RAWs or at least DNGs with your settings saved to them. If there is enough space on the media then you could put a folder of JPGs and a folder of TIFs, separately. It depends on how many you’re giving them. If you’re high-end you could give them an Wi-Fi iPad with the photos on it, or at least a non-Apple tablet with a removable flash-card for more easy offloading. -
Photoshop CS6 stopped saving file extensions
I am running PhotoShop CS6 on Mac Yosemite 10.10.2. Photoshop suddenly stopped saving file extensions. I can open the files saved on my computer, but others cannot because the file extension is missing. Under preferences > file handling > append file extension, "always" is selected. It doesn't matter which file format PSD, JPEG, PNG, etc., the file extension is not saved. I have the capability to view the file, but if I send it to someone else, or if I save it to dropbox and download it back to my computer, the image cannot be viewed.
Try resetting the Photoshop preference file: Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

Photoshop CS6 - Spot channels are not saved correctly in the psd files.

I'm using Photoshop CS6 and something happent a few days ago....some Windows or Adobe update messed up everything...I don't know...
Here's how things are.
If I add to an image a couple of new spot channels (any Pantone color) and remove the informations from the CMYK channels (or not-the problem it's there anyway), I should have an image with 6 color plates (CMYK and the 2 Pantone). It doesn't happened anymore...
I'm using Corel to print the files and the previous saved files are fine, I have all the Spot colors there. Now, If I edit any file I've worked on before, and save it again, the spot colors dissapear when I'm importing the psd file in my Corel document. And if there is no information on the CMYK channels, I'm getting a blank image...
I hope someone will give me some ideas because I don't know what to do anymore...

I forgot to mention one thing. I've got this CS6 as an upgrade and I still have the CS5 one running on the same computer. The CS5 version does the same thing...
Today I tryed again to open a PSD (CS6) with another CS5 version from another computer and came with an error message "Could not complete your request because the specified color book cannot be found". And the file didn't opened....
Who messed up my color book and how can I fix it? -
When I try to open a .jpeg in Bridge CC2014, I get the error message cannot find Photoshop CS6.
I have associated my .jpegs with Photoshop CC2014. I had to do this manually. Now, every other program opens them in Photoshop, except Adobe Bridge CC 2014.
If I try to Open a .jpeg (or any other file associated with Photoshop) Photoshop from bridge, it says It cannot find the photoshop cs6.exe file. Of course not! I uninstalled it before I installed CC. Maybe two years ago. And now Bridge CC2014 goes looking for that as the CS6 default Photoshop.exe?I finally got it to work by going into Bridge->Edit>Preferences>Default settings. After choosing a file that is supposed to open in Photoshop, I chose to change it and browsed to Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CC2014 and manually linking each filetype to the photoshop.exe.
I have spent the better part of a week getting Adobe software to work again after the Adobe CC2014 install. I will never trust Adobe CC updates again. They failed to warn me that CC2014 installs as a completely different copy rather than an update of CC. As a result, I ended up uninstalling CC apps after installing 2014. A mess that has cost me more than *30 hours* of chasing around forums, manually re-associating files. Even a registry hack! Found by a user, not by adobe.
Ordinary users shouldn't have to do this sort of thing after a normal install from the Creative Cloud panel. The genius software engineers at Adobe are being totally undercut by the keystone cops in the cc updates and install department.
