Photoshop CS6 will not open files

Right after rebooting my computer (Windows 7 Pro) I can open one photo file in CS6 using any normal method of opening a file in Photoshop. After closing that file I cannot open any more files using any method such as>Open Recent, File>Open, or right click open using Photoshop, by selecting the file, double-clicking to open it etc. I also cannot open a file in photoshop CS6 from Lightroom 5 using Photo>Edit In> Photoshop CS6. Everything works in Lightroom when I use Photo>Edit>open in CS6 Photoshop opens but the file doesn't.
If I reboot my computer I can then open one file using any of those methods, but when I try to open an additional file it will not open. I have run through all the opening Photoshop without plugins suggestions and all the other suggestions about what may cause this problem which I have found on Photoshop Help and Support Center and nothing has worked.
This started while Lightroom 4.4 and CS6 were on my machine and had been working well for months. Then, suddenly, I couldn't open anything in Photoshop. I know of no changes made to the computer. After trying various suggested solutions I reinstalled Photoshop CS6 and things seemed to be working so I went ahead with updating to Lightroom 5. The same problem popped up in CS6 again. Lightroom 5 and Lightroom 4.4 have both worked with no problems and still do. Photoshop seems to be the problem. I've also run an antivirus which found nothing.
Any suggestions?

Hello,
I have a licensed Photoshop CS6 installed on Windows 8.1 64bit.
This morning the software has started to have the following issue:
Photoshop will not create any new files (With the exclusion of spamming CTRL+N I have managed to open a new project)
Photoshop will not load an existing file through its panel of any format (double click on file yet nothing happens)
While trying to use any tool I have noticed that some of the clicks (Mouse or Keyboard) do not go through - some of them are being generated and some are not.
Sometimes Photoshop will not respond to clicks - if I drag a window other it forcing explorer to refresh the desktop the changes are being shown - otherwise Photoshop will remain stuck
After browsing the web for hours I have noticed a few people had similar issues as I have yet non of the steps which helped them to solve this issue have done any good to me.
I have taken the following steps:
Turned off "Use Graphic Processor"
Re-booted my computer
Re-installed Photoshop
Updated my graphic card's drivers
I have read another thread talking about some Nvidia cards which encounter issue with drivers yet I'm using an Radeon card - My PC spec:
Intel i7-3770 @ 3.4GHz
8GB RAM
ATI Radeon R7 200
Windows 8.1

We've heard of a few examples of this - but they always seem to come down to other applications interfering with UI in Photoshop, malware, or needing to reinstall the OS.
There have only been a handful of reports, and we haven't been able to isolate the cause - but we know that it is something outside of Photoshop. Sometimes it works shortly after rebooting the system, but then fails until the system is rebooted again (very strong evidence that the cause is outside of Photoshop). A few people have reported that after reinstalling the OS, the problem went away.

Photoshop CS6 will not open any graphics files

Photoshop cs6 will not open graphic files, i have reset the settings. I get to see all the files in preview but when I try to open a file nothing happens, no error messages, no file opens, nothing.
When I use bridge I try to open the file with open in photoshop cs6 but again nothing happens. I found that if I reboot my PC photoshop will work correctly until I shut photoshop down but if I reopen it later before rebooting my pc now graphics files will open.

Did it ever work on you machine? Do you get any error message? What OS are you using? You provide no information to even give us a clue as to what might be going on,

Adobe Indesign & Illustrator CS6 will not open files off server after Mac Maverick update.

I updated to Mac OS X Maverick and all the sudden my InDesign and Illustrator will not open files off of my works network. I read somewhere about installing the new Java update may help fix it, but I tried it and it did not. I have restarted my computer and reset the connection to the server multiple times, but it does nothing.
The exact message I get is: "Cannot open the files "xxxx.indd" Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application" I know for a fact that it is not open in another application so it is not that. I have tried multiple files on the server as well.
For Illustrator, I try to open a file from the server and it just freezes and does not respond so I have to force quit.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

If you had asked before you did this I would have told you not to move to Mavericks unless you were prepared for problems. I’m not a proponent of upgrade installations for operating systems and there’s no way to eliminate that as the cause.
That said, before you start erasing the whole machine, try uninstalling CS6 and then reinstalling it. You might want to run the cleaner tool after the uninstallation.

INDESIGN CS6 will NOT open files!

INDESIGN CS6 at launch will NOT open ANY documents , freezes on Open. Have tried moving SING Mark II folder- did not fix problem. FYI Indesign CS5.5 is fine.

I recently downloaded and installed the Photoshop CS6 Trial for Windows. Upon starting it, I try to create a New document, and no dialog window even opens. The open dialog will open, but selecting a file does nothing. I don't know why it would do this. Can anybody help me? Also, what information will you need to help me?

Photoshop CS6 does not open files

I am trying to get Photoshop CS6 on my PC running under Windows 8 to open files. The open dialog box comes up, but it is frozen and I end up having to CTRL ALT DEL and end the task to get out of it. This has only happened since the last update. I noticed that people had this problem back in 2013 but there was no answers given. I am unable to open any file and therefore not really able to use Photoshop.

Ok. What I'm about to suggest is Uninstall-Clean-Reinstall
Read this Help Document, follow the instructions and download the Cleaner tool.
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Uninstall
Run the CS/CC Cleaner. It will remove anything the uninstall missed. Those could be problem files or registry entries that are fouling things up.
After you clean do a fresh Reinstall.
Hopefully that fixes it.

Photoshop cs6 will not open

I just download cs6 photoshop, I can successfully download the program but when I try and open it up I get an error that tells me "Adobe Photoshop CS6 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I uninstalled photoshop and re installed it hopping this would work but it didn't. This is the error signature that is pulling up, :

Try resetting preferences. With windows start PS and immediately hold down shift ctrl alt keys. If fast enough you should get a reset window.

If by right clicking you mean your right clicking on a file on your desktop or in an application like windows file explorer. If you using then Open not open with. You need to make sure you system configuration file extension is associated with Photoshop and the the registration of Photoshop is configured o the correct version of Photoshop. I would think something similar would apply to a Mac OS.
On windows you can use Regedit to check the Photoshop.exe key setting. see if open and edit are correctly set. if not fix the settings.
You can use the control panel default Programs file associations to check and set file extensions associations.

I have been getting this error pop up when trying to open photoshop "Some of the application components are missing from the Application directory, Please reinstall the application." Why do i get this error when trying to open photoshop cs6 on my Mac (mountain lion) it has worked previously. How can i fix this???

Updated to tiger 10.4.9 - Photoshop CS will not open files

Hey all,
Hoping someone out there can answer this question for me. I have a bit of a serious problem. I don't know if this is an issue with Mac OS or Photoshop.
I just bought a MacBook Pro. Copied all my files over to the new computer. A strange thing happened to every single one of my tiff files. When I look at my tiff files in their folders on the hard drive, rather than show a thumbnail of the actual image, I have the generic tiff image thumbnail. When I click to open the files with Photoshop CS, I get this message "Could not complete your request because the file is not a TIFF file." There are hundreds of tiff files. I can't open a single one.
I then decided to try opening the tiff files on my backup drive. Those were ok for a while, but just today I suddenly have the exact same problem - I can't open them. I have not changed most of these files - I'm just opening them in most cases.
I have found the same exact things has happened with all of my Illustrator .ai files. I get the same message. . . "Could not complete your request because the file is not a PDF file."
Does anybody know what is going on here and how I can fix the problem? The problem seems to have infected my backup drive, which is why I'm suspicious it's the operating system. But you tell me.

I actually did try reinstally Photoshop - even reinstalled my operating system. I looked for the file "Adobe Unit Types" and see that it is indeed there in the ScriptingAdditions folder. But I still cannot open the tif files.
I should also mention all my tif files have the .tif extension on them (in case anyone suggests that's the issue.)
And, this problem is the same with Illustrator CS .ai files as well.
Any other ideas?

Photoshop CC will not open EOS 40D RAW files

I recently updated to Photoshop CC 2014 but cannot open Canon EOS 40D .CR2 RAW files.
I can open and edit them in Lightroom but if I attempt to 'Edit in...' Photoshop from Lightroom, I get a message suggesting that I update to Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.6 using the update tool in the Photoshop help menu.
However, the Updates... menu item is greyed out, unavailable.
How can I resolve this issue?

As soon as you start CC 2014 press and hold Ctrl+Alt+shift or CMD+Optiom+Shift Photoshop should prompt it you want your preferences deleted.
I have tried to reset preferences, a couple of times, both by deleting the file 'Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Prefs.psp' and by using the keyboard shortcut you suggest (also to both older versions of Photoshop on my drive) but the 'Update...' option under Help remains greyed out (on all versions).
All PS version install by default on the Boot disk and happy coexist. Problem arise when you install newer version of PS then use Adobe uninstllers to un-install previous versions. Often this process messes up file associations of the newer install. I just delete the install tree.
I don't recall ever having used an uninstaller. I have twice cloned my entire boot disk however, complete with all applications including Photoshop, most recently about a year or so ago when switching to a SSD. I don't know if that might have messed things up along the way. I have no idea what deleting the install tree entails?
The superscription versions of Photoshop CS6 13.1, CC 14.2.1 and CC 15.0 as well as the perpetual version of CS6 13.0 should have just been updated with ACR 8.6 you should not need to convert to DNG for there version of PS. If your Cannon is very new you may need to convert to DNG for CS5.

My Canon EOS 70D is listed as supported by ACR 8.6 and in fact, having now hunted down the ACR 8.6 download link (why is it so hidden? why isn't incorporated into the Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 installer?) and installed it, Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 does now open my .CR2 files directly in ACR 8.6 in Photoshop.
So problem solved, I guess.
All except the greyed out 'Updates...', which still lingers on.

Hi, please help with my issue which is as follows:
A file which was created and saved using Adobe Photoshop CS6 is not opening anymore and sends a message saying that the file is not compatible.
What should I do, I have invested so much in that file and I dont think i will be able to do it all over again.

That's why people do incremental saves and use backups... You could try to open the file in an image viewer like IrfanView and see which parts are salvagable, but that's as good as it gets most likely...
