Photoshop .csh file to Illustrator

Hi all
I have a custom shapes library that consists of some 200+ shapes that I have gathered over time. What i would like to know is whether there is any way of converting a .csh file or extracting the vector data so it can be opened in Illustrator.
I have already used the copy and paste process on a 50 shape library, but i am looking for a quicker way of doing this.
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

No, not that I know of...

  • Unable to place Photoshop psd file in Illustrator CS3

    Hi,
    Can someone help please???
I am unable to place a Photoshop PSD file in Illustrator and be able to print the document correctly. The Illustrator file is saved as a ai file, both the document & PSD file are CMYK.
On screen the document looks fine but as soon as I have printed the document, some of file has not printed.
Do I need to have the Illustrator file as a eps file?
I used to use an old Photoshop version that had a Export Image option, which was great for something like this, but CS3 doesn't have this option.
Has anybody got any ideas what I am doing wrong?

This seems to be an Illy problem, not Photoshop. You might want to check
with the gurus there, but perhaps a few details, like what printer
you're using and a few screenshots might help.

  • Exporting PHotoshop layered file to Illustrator. Is this possible?

I built a project within Photoshop CS2, complete with layers. But I need to export this artwork to be used in Illustrator. Can I do this? I've already tried saving the work as EPS but when it's opened in AI CS2, it displays nothing. What should I do?
    - Kareem

    >I've already tried saving the work as EPS...
The EPS format does not support layers in raster images, so you flattened your layers when you saved as EPS. (Open the EPS again in Photoshop and see.) Nothing Illustrator can do about that (but it should display
    something).
Please read the topic "To use Photoshop artwork in Adobe Illustrator" in the Photoshop help file.

  • Can not import PhotoShop CS3 files into Illustrator CS3

Worked just fine yesterday. I can place a JPG. I typically just drag a PSD into Illustrator. I now get an error message sayng it can not read the file. I have tried placing the file and nothing happens (no messages or warnings).
I tried saving the PSD as a TIF, but no luck here either.
I have tried opening a new file and dragging various PSD files in. It seems that none of the work any longer.
    And yes I've rebooted.

I have the exact same problem. I haven't placed PSD files into Illustrator for quite a while, but I just tried it this morning and it doesn't work (just like the OP). I even opened a file about a year old, which used to work just fine, but now the PSD file doesn't appear and I can't re-import it. So it has to be some issue recently introduced.
@Galumph - I have Vista x64 and 8GB of RAM. Is there a specific issue that applies to this particular combo?

  • CS4 bringing photoshop layered files into illustrator - blending modes

    Hello.
I have a layered photoshop file that is being brought into illustrator. One layer is a drop shadow and is set to multiply within photoshop. The drop shadow is NOT an effect. It's just a plain layer of a drop shadow. When I bring it into illustrator it doesn't act as if it is set to multiply when placed over my illustrator object. I know it's easy enough to make the shadow within illustrator and set the blending mode there but I would like to know why this is not working.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    -PB

Illustrator's blending math is not the same as Photoshop's -- there will be differences if you import/export layered data between the apps.

  • Placing photoshop eps's into Illustrator - file size

I used to place very large/high res photoshop eps files into Illustrator (as low res proxy) and it would allow my Illustrator file size to stay very small, however, once I switched to CS5 I noticed the way I was saving the eps's wouldn't show up in Illustrator, it would show as an empty box until I resaved the eps with tiff preview and jpg encoding.  But this makes my Illustrator file huge which is not what I want.  Does anyone that creates large scale graphics know what I'm talking about?  Thanks

This setup has been working for years…
Does that mean that you don't even plan to update Photoshop CS to CS6 13.0,6?  That would be a grave mistake.  There were many substantial bug fixes along the way.
Updating to CS 13.0.6 is completely, totally free.  No expense at all.
If your issue appeared "suddenly", delete and recreate your Photoshop and your Illustrator's preferences.
But update to 13.0.6 ASAP.  There's absolutely no excuse and no valid reason for staying with known buggy versions.  That's just plain nonsense.
If you insist on staying with your "setup" for the reason you state, please don't bother addressing any replies to me.

  • Applying a colour to a 1 bit photoshop eps file

    Hi everyone,
I've placed a 1 bit photoshop eps file into Illustrator and I'm trying to colour it. I tried selecting it and applying one of the colour swatches but nothing happens. I wondered if anyone could help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

    gwh,
Nothing magical happens just because you save a raster image in a format that may contain vector artwork. A raster image is a raster image is an Argh.
If you just want it to appear with another colour with the help of Illy (you can actually recolour in Photoshop), you may cheat, such as this way:
    1) Create a rectangle (at least) the size of the raster image with the desired (darkest) colour;
    2) Place the raster image on top of 1) and in the Transparency palette flyout click Make Opacity Mask, with Clip ticked (unless you want a frame) and with Invert Mask ticked (unless you want a negative).

  • Convert Illustrator vectors to *.csh file to use in Photoshop as brushes?

    Hi, everyone:
Can *.ai vector shapes (drawn in Illustrator) be saved as a *.csh file to use in Photoshop as a brush? How do you save Illustrator (*.ai) files as *.csh files? Do you need a plug in? Is one available?
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Have you tried copy and pasting the vector image to photoshop and let photoshop create the brush?

  • Opening files with Illustrator and photoshop doesn't work, i have to drag the files from finder in to the program. This problem appears after opening 4 a 5 files.

Opening files with Illustrator and photoshop doesn't work, i have to drag the files from finder in to the program.
This problem appears after opening 4 a 5 files, rebooting helps another 4 a 5 times and appears again.

I'd recommend reposting in the Boot Camp forum, that is where the Boot Camp and Windows gurus hang out.
    Good luck.

  • Can't open photoshop files in Illustrator

I have been running Adobe CS3 on my computer for 4 years now, and recently installed windows 7. Since then I get an error on my computer when I try to open photoshop that says:
"there is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk into drive\device\Harddisk1\DRI"
From there all I can do is press try again or cancel. Try again doesn't do anything, so I press cancel and then the program opens like normal.
The other problem I am having is I try to open a photoshop file in Illustrator or try to place a photoshop file in illustrator the program crashes and says:
"The application ran out of memory. Please close some windows to free memory."
I don't have any other windows or programs running, and I have a quad processor and 8g of memory. Shouldn't be crashing.
Does anyone have a solution for me please?
    Thanks

"there is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk into drive\device\Harddisk1\DRI"
It's looking for a file somewhere on a drive that no longer exists. Trash the prefs, flush the MRU (Recent Files) lists.
and I have a quad processor and 8g of memory. Shouldn't be crashing.
AI is a 32bit app and never uses more than 2.something GB of memory, no matter how beefy your system may be. Anyway, such issues are usually quite specific, so it will be hard for anyone to advise. Some basic specs on what PSDs you are trying to import might help...

  • How to Convert Photoshop File to Illustrator?

I have a Photoshop image file (jpg and psd) for our company that was to have been used for a label we're putting on a battery. The Photoshop image looks great, but the battery manufacturer emailed us back saying that it wasn't printing clearly on the labels. They requested it in pdf or Illustrator format. I am pretty good with Photoshop as I've been using it for years doing web design for our company's website, but Illustrator has me completely baffled. I have an old copy of Illustrator CS and I was able to open the psd file in Illustrator and convert it to pdf. We sent that to the manufacturer, but they said it still wasn't good enough. Now they want it as an Illustrator file, which I assume means they need a vector image.
All of that leads to my question. Can a raster image from Photoshop be converted cleanly to a vector image in Illustrator? I have opened both the psd and the jpg files in Illustrator, but I really don't know what to do. I'm not sure how I did it, but at one point I increased the size of the image and it looked good, but there was rectangle shaped box that defined the original size that I couldn't get off of the image. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas? I am appreciative for any assistance.
    Tad

This depends on how the file is built in photoshop. You can do a save as to either Photoshop .pdf or .eps to preserverve vector data, and open this in illustrator. You will have some cleanup work to do, but here is what happens:
Shapes - you get a  vector mask in Illustrator, with an embedded image for the solid color. If you want to change the color, you should get rid of the embedded image, and drop in an illustrator color in to the mask
Smart Objects - you get an embedded bitmapped image - you will want to edit the smart object from photoshop, copy the contents in illustrator, and paste this into you new illustrator file.
Type - Gets converted to outlines. So the quality will be what you need, but you lose the editability. You may need to copy from photoshop and paste into illustrator, and , should you need to make type edits in the future. Many type attributes (font, size) will be retained, thanks to the pdf clipboard, btu you will need to flow these into area text boxes properly.
So you have to take a look at your photoshop file before starting this, and do some converting items to shapes if needed, and removing layers and saving the bitmapped portion of the file as it's own .psd, that is to be placed in illustrator.
Though 300dpi(or twice the lppi) is the typical resolution for photographs, logos adn hard edged items need to be vector so they can take advantage at the resolution of the output device (usually between 2540dpi & 3385 dpi)

  • Created file in illustrator then opened in photoshop but color code changed?

I Created file in illustrator and then opened the art in photoshop but the wierd thing is that the color code changed. If you look at the image with you eye the color will look the same to the naked but if you use the eye dripper tool you can see that the color code has changed between illustrator and photoshop.
Is there a way to make the CMYK color code stay the same?

In Illustrator the "Edit---> color settings" are set to "North America General Purpose 2" and the that is the same color setting choice in Photoshop.
For example there is a black color in Illustrator that has this CMYK code "60, 49,47, 100"
but in photoshop the CMYK code for the same part of the graphic changes to "75, 68, 67, 90"
This is only one example of many color code changes that are happening and this may look like the same color on the screen but I need them to both have the same code because I am doing specialized printing and need no changes in color codes like this to occur.
If I have the color setting in both photoshop and illustrator both set exactly the same "Edit---> color settings" then do you know why this color shift would be happening. Please help.

  • Placing Photoshop file in Illustrator CS5 - why doesn't it work?

I frequently place Photoshop files into Illustrator CS3 without issue.... the PS file places right into the file with transparent surroundings.
I just upgraded to CS5 and for some reason, I "Place" the Photoshop file, but nothing shows up in Illustrator.  I must not have a preference set correctly.
    Can you help?
    Thanks.

Hi Matthew - thanks for taking the time to check this issue out for me.
I have just uninstalled Illustrator CS5, because I need to get things done - and reverted back to CS3..... however, I did duplicate a file to demonstrate what I'm doing.
I created a sample file with a very simple, non-descript  green vector shape.... then, In Photoshop, I created a yellow image that says Photoshop Placed File.  I gave it a dropshadow...
I then went back to Illustrator and selected 'File/place'..... and selected the photoshop file described above.  I then placed it on top of the green vector image in Illustrator CS3 and it layed on top fine - with NO white box around it as a jpg would do.  PLUS, the black dropshadow fades nicely over whatever image color you place it upon.... it 'gradually' lets the vector color below it show through as the fade diminishes to 0%.
NOW - I tried to 'place' a file into Illustrator CS5 in this same manner.... and I get absolutely nothing!  The Raster photoshop image doesn't even show up in Illustrator CS5.  This is where I was at when I started the topic.
    Any ideas??

  • Converting a Photoshop file to illustrator

I have this photoshop file made up of imagery I would like to convert to an illustrator. When I export to illustrator paths and open it in illustrator I get this empty box.  Can you tell me how to convert the imagery from photoshop to line art in illustrator format?

Sounds like you don't have any paths in your file.
Place the photoshop file in Illustrator and trace the artwork.
