Double-clicking to open files stops working after opening lots of files.

When I double-click a file it will open the file in CS6 version 13.0.1, but then after a while double-clicking will no longer open jpeg or raw files. I can open the same files by going to File > Open in the Menu Bar.
When I am simply opening downloaded files from my camera, I can open 200-300 by double-clicking with no problems. However, at times when I am working on an image, it is not long before I can't open a file by double-clicking. It will open a blank Photoshop window, but without any Toolbar or Menu Bars.
This happens on a regular basis. Sometimes, also, Photoshop is slow to Quit, for no apparent reason.
Is anyone aware of this problem?

If I open a jpeg and just change the name, then Save As to a folder, I can then open another jpeg by double-clicking.
However, whenever I open a jpeg and make changes to the image in Photoshop, then Save As to a folder, I can then no longer open a jpeg by double-clicking. Photoshop will open, but the jpeg will not open.
Since this only happens after making changes to a jpeg in Photoshop, it seems to me the problem is with something in Photoshop, and has nothing to do with my OS.

Double-click to open file does not work

I have Windows XP, ID 3.0.1. When I either double-click an INDD file or try to open it via Start>Documents, I get a dialog box: InDesign_US_R - InstallShield Wizard, Location to save file, etc. What do I do with that? These files open normally if I open them through ID.

It sounds like your file association in Explorer has been damaged.
What does Windows say the current association is?

Cannot Drag & Drop in the dock or double click to open files anymore

Since installing OS X 10.4.3 then .4 I can only open files through the appropiate
application using OPEN under FILE in that application. Drag & drop into the dock app only gives a momentary flash and a double click on the file/document does nothing. Any ideas? It worked fine in 10.3

I have a similar issue, but my case is pretty odd (it is to me, anyway). I am in a largely Windows-based company, but work in a small Mac-based department. We recently relocated into new offices, and the new environment is run on a Windows 2003 server (our old offices were on a Windows 2000 server).
My issue is that when I try to double-click an icon, drag an icon to the Dock, or open with keyboard shortcuts, the application launches, but no file opens. The only way I can open a file is via File>Open through the application.
My computer is a PowerMac G5 running OS X 10.4.4 -- oddly, our 10.3.x users do not have this issue. And I never had any problems on the W2K server. So I'm sure there's something with the new 2003 server and 10.4, but I've searched through the threads and didn't see anything exactly like my issue.
Any thoughts? Are there server settings that may have been missed by our IT department? Or is there something I need to set on my Mac? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New file, open file stopped working

I have Photoshop CS3. Yesterday afternoon it was working perfectly. Today both the File > New and File > Open do nothing. Dragging a photoshop file onto the program does not open it. Creating a new document brings up the dialogue but clicking ok does not create a new document. Nothing happens. Any ideas why this might happen or what I can do about it?

I had bought new retina macbook pro 15 in, everething was working perfect I was open files, pics, videos with double click in the mouse pad normally but I do not why now is not working I can not use double click in the pad for open files. I have to open it using two finguer click or right click and then click open or open with, why is that happening?

I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your MacBook Pro. If you are having issues opening things by double clicking on them, you may want to double check to make sure the double click speed hasn't accidentally been set too high, as noted in the following article:

Option-double-clicking for docs has stopped working after iOS 4.0.1?

Hi,
I've just installed the XCode 3.2.3 and iOS 4.0.1 SDKs and now the auto-linking to the documentation has broken. It works about 50% of the time, and quite randomly as to what it can or can't find.
The documentation is up to date, as I can always find the method/type name manually. Is there a way to force a rebuild of this linkage? (I've tried rebuild code sense index)

Looks to me like it never finds methods declared in protocols, e.g. - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching: ...
Also, it looks like there's problems with ambiguous method names, e.g. [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfFile: ... which will take you to NSArray's documentation.
No, I have no idea on how to fix this.

Since I like to double-click or hit return in the bridge, I am constantly having to wait until the file opens in CS6, quit CS6 an then open it another way to get it into Photoshop CC 2014. Double click on .doc file opens Apple Works not Word 98

I'm using Tiger on a 14" iBook. I have Office 98 installed which works OK running under the classic environment.
Only thing is, I can't get it to start when I double click on a .doc file.
I've been thru all the recommended stuff, select the file, "get info", change the application etc... Whatever I try, it just reverts to Apple Works. When I double click the .doc file, I get Apple Works instead of MS Word.
Has any one got any ideas? Is this because Word 98 runs under Classic?
Also, I can open a word (.doc) document by dragging it onto the dock icon for MS Word 98. But if I try the same with an Excel spreadsheet,(dragging it onto the excel icon) it doesn't work. Tiger doesn't seem to like the .xls extension. Was this extension used for something else?

If it was used as a Microsoft Works document, you may need to convert it to Excel first.
Not sure if Excel handles Works documents, but Appleworks does to a limited extent, and Maclinkplus by http://www.dataviz.com/ will better allow you to be able to handle files of unknown type that are spreadsheets.
To change the application a document opens under control-mouse click a document with that extension and select Open With. Select the Other... and find the application in the dialog to open with, and check "Always Open With" if you want to open all documents with that extension with a specific application.

Windows Server 2008 R2 clients can't double click to open Office files

Let me start by saying I don't know too much about Server 2008.
I have Server set up so desktop clients (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) can log in as their user on their own machines. On two of the client machines (mine and my bosses, I have admin rights on everything) a couple funny things are happening:
1. Can't open a Word or Excel file by double clicking the icon on the desktop. Error is as follows:
Excel
Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\PERSONAL.XLSB'. There are several possible reasons: The file name or path does not exist. The file is being used by another program.
The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
Word
The file Normal.dotm cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents.
and then
Word cannot open this document template. (C:\Users\(username)\...\AVWiz14s.dotm)
and then
Word cannot open the existing file. (Normal)
and then Word stops responding.
Note that I can open these documents normally from the start menu. I have determined this error has something to do with the server because I have tried a bunch of stuff on the internet, including an Excel hotfix, which did nothing.
2. Desktop icons flicker, rearrange themselves, and even disappear completely at times. I do not know what causes this, but I do believe this is a server issue.
3. I get recycle bin errors every time I log in, and every time I try to delete anything:
The Recycle Bin on \\intecserver\Office Employee Files\kneureuter\My Documents\My Videos is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?
Sometimes I get that error for 3-4 different directories.
What I've tried:
I tried reinstalling Office, and that made no difference.
I have the drive from the server "Office Employee Files" mapped to network drive Y:. I can open that and go to my account folder on there, navigate to "Desktop" and open the files from there, but not on the physical desktop on my
computer.
These files aren't shortcuts on the desktop, their permanent home is on the desktop.
Just to reiterate, if I moved these files into a folder on the desktop, they will open fine. If I open them from within Excel or Word, they open fine. If I open them from the server drive mapped onto my terminal, they open fine. Just can't
open them by double-clicking the file if it is directly on the desktop. Any ideas?
I logged onto my account from a different computer and double-clicking to open the files worked fine on that computer. Both computers running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Office 2010 Pro. So that limits it to this machine and my bosses machine.
Since you can't create a shortcut for something on the desktop, I created a new folder on the desktop and put the files in that folder. From there I created a shortcut and put that on the desktop. That worked!
However, that's just a band-aid. I need to fix this problem sooner than later.

Double click to open photoshop

I've set photoshop as the application to open when I double click an image. What I can't figure out is why some images open at 72 dpi and others open at 180 dpi. I'm guessing one is the alias and one is the original????? How would I control this? Thanks.

I have the same problem in that I want my images to open in Photoshop CS when I double click on the file, but even when I've been working on them in Photoshop they just open the application, not the image. There's a brief flash of an image but it never opens. I don't appear to have iPhoto, so the previous answer appears not to help, and have just loaded Tiger and its latest updates (prior to re-loading Photoshop). The only way I can currently open images in Photoshop is thru the tedious "Open" menu within Photoshop, followed by a trawl through the file structure, or via the application's own file browser.
