Photoshop Edit function will not open. Windows 8

After loading and using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. I initially used the Edit on one occasion. I then went to use it again and it gives me the Photoshop graphic, but would not launch / open the Edit option.
I checked the "Properties" tab on the Program and it stated it was set up for Windows XP Service Pack 3. I looked at other options listed and it only went up to Windows 7.
I purchased it for Windows 8 from Amazon and it does have it printed on the box that it is for the latest Windows 8.
Can you tell me if this can be fixed or whether I have been sold a product that is wrongly configured and will need replacing.

Hello RJA,
Are you saying that in the Compatibilty tab of the properties dialog for the application, the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" is set to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3"?
If so, uncheck that box. Press OK. Then try and start PSE again. If that works, great. If not, then exit. Right-click on the shortcut, choose Properties again, Compatibility tab, and check the box to run as Administrator (assuming you are using an admin account in Windows). If it all strarts fine, then exit again. Go back to the Compatibilty tab and make sure that the Run as Administrator is unchecked.
Try to start it normally. Does it now start and run OK?
Take care, Mike

    Hello flarogue7
This issue means there is certain issue with your HOSTS file.
Just navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc on your computer, rename the HOSTS file and try to install. It will install.

  • Photoshop elements 6 will not open!

Purchased photoshop elements 6.  My dad has that one and recommended it for what I want to do with photos.  It was the only elements in our budget and since my dad uses it, I figured instant help should I need it.
I tried installing it.  It said it was installed, but it will not open.  Tried uninstalling it then reinstalling it and restarting computer.  Did not work.  Tried to run it as an administrator.  Did not work.
I have windows vista 64 bit.
If I can't get this to work, I know I won't be buying anything from adobe ever again and will tell all my friends that want to get into editing their photos to stay far, far, far away from photoshop elements.

You are rude, to say the least.  It is adobe's fault for marketing it as compatible.  Yet another reason why I want nothing to do with adobe.  The fact they marketed it as compatible when it is not is what I have a problem with.  I am not blaming the software, I am blaming the company.

  • My recently purchased Photoshop Elements 12 will not open.

My recently purchased Photoshop Elements 12 will not open. Clicking to open, will not reveal the usual “edit” or “organize” choice windows. Only the main “edit” working window opens. In a moment, a smaller window within will also open. It states “Photoshop Elements 12 Editor has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”
I am running it on a Dell laptop with six gigs of RAM and a Core i5 processor.
Should I attempt to reinstall? During original installation, the only thing I was not asked was to give blood! So, if reinstalling on the same machine is the solution, will Adobe allow this?
    Thanks,
    Frank

I have tried and failed.  It was loaded from disc just purchased at Best buy.  It loaded fine but will not start up at all.  I have looked for the launch program and tried other methods but no success yet.

Can you post back with the following.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.
    2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

  • Photoshop Elements 7 will not open

Photoshop Elements 7 will not open.  Indicates an error message upon trying to
    open application in Windows Vista.

Can you try some of teh trubleshooting steps at this link http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm.
    Also try this once:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to c:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  9\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works. Let me know your comments.
    Thanks,

  • Clicking on an e-mail address will NOT open Windows Live Mail which is already the default mail program which is already set as the default mail program

Clicking on an e-mail address will NOT open Windows Live Mail. Windows Live mail is already set as my default e-mail program.

Sorry you're having this problem. I think it was previously reported only by Windows XP users.
When you reinstall, were you making Firefox your default browser? Some users have reported that ''not'' making Firefox the default browser was an effective workaround.
However, you may have success with this approach, suggested by a user in another thread, which appears to more thoroughly update the Windows registry:
    # Open Adobe Reader / Acrobat
    # Edit->Preferences
    # In the Categories column click 'General'
    # Near the bottom of the page click the button marked 'Select Default PDF Handler'
    # In the dialog, select 'Adobe Reader XI' (or Adobe Acrobat, as the case may be) and click 'Apply'
    # A Windows Configuration screen will appear. Allow it to do its stuff (takes a few minutes), then restart your computer when prompted.
Does that resolve the issue for you?

  • Photoshop from LR will not open

When I am in LR and want to edit using photoshop the program will not open directly. In LR, I click on the photo, choose "edit in photoshop", a pop up box opens asking me to choose what to open. I click "edit a copy with LR adjustments and then PS does not open. Any suggestions?

I was also having this issue, and I did some more searching and found this answer in the Adobe forums: Re: Photos from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop CC (2014) and back.... The issue appears to be caused by having not updated Lightroom to the latest version prior to having CC2014 installed (wow that's stupid). The trick seems to be to uninstall Photoshop CC2014 and to then reinstall it after having upgraded to Lightroom 5.5.

ipod will not turn on, itunes will not open, window pops up says ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. what do i do now?

You restore the iPod via iTunes. Don't plug the iPod in. Open up iTunes and then plug it in and then try restoring, if it fails to restore a few times, keep trying. I do it on a daily basis, you're using an Apple product, remember...
EDIT: Do it from another computer if all else fails.

Saving a Photoshop CC project from a Mac (in .PSD format) to a thumb drive and trying to transfer it to a Dell laptop with Photoshop CS6.  Will not open...Error message: could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document.

The file was corrupted somewhere along the way (assuming it was still readable on the Macintosh).
The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files...

  • I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It quits when the Twain portion of the program starts loading. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer will work with Photoshop??

I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It closes every time it gets to the point where it is loading the Twain portion. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer and Photoshop will work together? Thanks for any help I can get!

    You're welcome.
But, no, don't look to  Epson for fixes to their  driver in newer versions, and Adobe has deprecated the TWAIN plug-in.  Hoping for a solution there is futile.  That has not happened and it's never going to happen.  The consensus is that it's pretty foolish to tie up Photoshop to scan.  Honestly.
Any improvement in the behavior of newer versions of the Epson drivers in that regard would be pure coincidence.
You need to understand that you never, ever scan "within" Photoshop, as Photoshop has no scanning capabilities whatsoever.  When you use the Import > Twain plug-in all you are doing is blocking Photoshop while you call up the stand-alone Epson scanning software.  If you think about it, its most inefficient.
VueScan has a pretty powerful scanning plug-in that can be called from the Impost menu—if you insist.  VueScan is not free, but it's a pretty good value, IMO.
As for the Epson CD printing software, I have no clue.  Sorry.

I'm not a "Cloud" member. I just upgraded to Lightroom 6 from Lightroom 5. All was working well yesterday. Today Lightroom will not open (Windows 7). I see the logo photo over my Lightroom platform but nothing loads and I see "Lightroom not responding." I checked the catalogs and see that lrcat-Journal and lrcat-Lock have been created every time I try to open. I have a backup from the first day I upgraded, but Lightroom doesn't want to access it. Should I reinstall?

Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.
Some light reading for you, courtesy of the site search: https://forums.adobe.com/search.jspa?q=%22+not+writable+and+cannot+be+opened%22&place=%2Fp laces%2F1383621&depth=ALL

  • Edited clips will not open with other apps

After editing video clips using Adobe Premiere Elements, clips will not open with other apps (like VLC, Media Player, etc...)

Just saw your post and wanted to leave a just in case note.
From the information that you and John T. Smith just exchanged, it would appear that you attempted to play back the saved project file (project.prel) with your VCL Player and Windows Media Player. You need to export the Timeline content to a file format that is supported by the player of your choice. By now, you have probably been there and done that.
This is the just in case note about projects and their project.prel file....let us say that you have two separate projects and you decide to put the content of one project into another. Cannot do. One cannot import a project.prel into another project.prel. You would have to export the Timeline of one and then import that export in the other project. Alternatively, those with Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1, 9.0/9.0.1, and 10 could use the ClipMate program to copy/paste between programs without issues. However, with Premiere Elements 11 there are some problems in that regard.

  • PhotoShop Elements 8 will not open

I have been running PhotoShop/Premiere Elements 8 on Windows 7 64 bit system with an ATI Radeon graphics card since last August without problems.  I have made no changes to my system other than Microsoft updates.
Yesterday when I tried to open either I get an error message that the OPENGL32.dll file is missing on my computer, and to reinstall the software.  When I check the C/Window/System32 the opengl32.dll file is indeed there.
      - I tried restoring my system to a date prior to my last use of PhotoShop, this did not help.
      - I updated the driver for my graphics card to the lasted driver, previous driver update was from 10/2010.
      - I tried uninstalling both PhotoShop and Premiere and reinstalling PhotoShop only.  It still will not open, I just get a 'program not responding' and have to 'end task'.  If I try to open an image file using the 'open with' and select PhotoShop Editor I get the same OPENGL32.dll missing error message.
    Any other suggestions?

I seem to have resolve the issue on my own with the help of the following link:
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/opengl32-dll-not-found-missing-error.ht m
I tried each option and finally option 7 seems to have fix my problem.  After runing the sfc /scannow I am now able to access PhotoShop Elements 8 as normal.
I hope this will help others that may find themselves with the same issue.
