Photoshop Edits Import into Lightroom, Color/Noise Problems

Hello!  When I edit photos in Photoshop (CS5), it looks completely different when I save it/re-import it into Lightroom.  The color is usually way off, and there tends to be a significant amount of noise in the imported version.   Tiffs v. Jpegs makes no difference.  I read in another forum that someone else said he only has this problem with his Canon 7D files.  My files are all Canon 7D.  Would that be a Canon problem to solve, or Adobe?  I'm attaching a screenshot of an image I had just saved in Photoshop, and then how it appears when it automatically re-imported back to Lightroom. Thank you for any help you can provide.  It's killing me to work so hard on my images, just to have them look completely different afterwards.
Thanks, Heather

Looks like you are applying a preset, have set camera defaults, or have enabled auto-tone. In Develop, all sliders should be at zero for tif files. You probably have a large amount of shadow fill dialed in. Go into your preferences and make sure to uncheck "apply auto tone adjustments" Also reset all default camera adjustments in the same dialog. Then hit reset on the file in develop.

  • Re Importing into Lightroom 4.1

My photographic equipment consists of a Nikon D 7000 ( set to RAW) and a P 5000 (JPEG). My computer is an iMac with Lightroom 4.1 installed. Up until recently it has been possible to import from the SD cards directly into Lightroom via the reader in the side of the Mac. As of late the program will let me see the previews but when I attempt to import the images a message pops up that the files cannot be read! I can import them into 'iPhoto' but this is not where I want them! Can any one please suggest what has caused this new problem? I eagerly await any suggestions. With Thanks.

Dear tlsteinb. Thanks for your reply. I tried the ejection of the external drive as you suggested. To no avail! It is still a mystery to me. I do not know if i have to change a setting on the camera, the computer, or the program! I tried to send a 'chat' message to Adobe directly. How successful that will be we will wait and see! I shall keep you posted. Regards, Rae Dall

Just this morning I've begun experiencing the same thing. I can get the photos off the card and onto the iMac desktop for instance, but they won't import into Lightroom 4 from either the card reader or the desktop. So my assumption is that my card reader is working fine, but Lightroom is not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • PSD files created using export data set fail to import into lightroom

If I create a set of files using variables in a data set, the PSD files won't import into LightRoom. LR says to resave with maximum compatibility, but I already have that set in Photoshop. If I open one of the files and resave it, it will import. Perhaps PS isn't honoring the maximize compatibility setting when exporting.

  • Problem with saving TIFF from PDF in Photoshop and importing into Corel

I work at a publishing company, and some of our designers use CorelDraw X14. We receive most of our advertising material in PDF format, which I then have to convert to TIFF in Photoshop (I use CS4). Most of the time this works fine, but lately, the TIFF files appear ragged and very low resolution (especially the text) once they are imported into Corel. When I re-open the TIFF files in Photoshop they seem fine, as well as viewing them with a picture manager program. Does anyone have any idea why this happens, and if the problem lies with the may I save the TIFF files or the way they are imported into Corel? TIFF files created from Corel don't have the same problem.

I concur with Bart - they are using the preview because someoen ticked a wrong checkbox or enabled a fast preview mode... Should print and export without issues, though.

  • Multiple Edits in Photoshop not saving into Lightroom?

In Lightroom 3 I was able to edit in Photoshop, save the file, then make another edit in photoshop and save it under a different name, and that file would also show up in Lightroom.
    For example;
in Lightroom I select "Image 1" and select edit in photoshop,
I edit this in photoshop and save.
    Lightroom shows "Image 1-edit"
I make another edit and select "Save As" and save it as "Image 1 Alternate".
"Image 1 Alternate" shows up in Lightroom next to "Image 1-edit"
This does not appear to be happening with Lightroom 4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
    Thanks for your replies

Additional "save as" edits are saved into Lightroom 3. It does not "break the link".
I'm assuming here that you are using Photoshop CS5.x and the current version of Camera Raw? If so, this is as expected...LR4 is using a pipeline that will match up to ACR 7 when it's released.
As it is now, LR4 must actually do the processing prior tp sending it to Photoshop. LR4 also has to save the file on disk prior to sending it to Photoshop.
If you were using ACR 7 in CS6 then ACR would actually be doing the processing and the behavior of this way of opening in Photoshop does NOT have to save the file prior to sending it to Photoshop. When ACR does the opening, you can do a Save or a Save As and Lightroom will know about those saves. Pretty LR4 doesn't know where the Save As file goes to and that's why it isn't showing up.
The two basic behaviors; LR synced with ACR and LR not synced with ACR goes back to version 2 (I think). It's a limitation in LR when LR and ACR aren't in sync.

  • Import a 2nd Photoshop Elements Catalog into Lightroom 2.1?

    Okay Lightroom Gurus ...
On my old computer (Windows XP), I had several Photoshop Elements 5 catalogs, one of which was my main catalog, and the others were photos I hardly ever used. I imported the main catalog into Lightroom 2 just fine and have been running with it ever since.
Then, my old computer crapped out, I bought a new Windows Vista 64 computer, installed Lightroom 2.1, transferred the Lightroom catalog and continued along just fine.
But now, on my new computer, I want to import one of the other Photoshop Elements 5 catalogs (which still exists and still runs in PSE5 on the Vista 64 computer), but the command in Lightroom to do the import seems to have disappeared! I can't find it! Where did it go and how can I get it back? Is this a Vista 64 or Lightroom 2.1 issue (or is it me)?

Roy, I am 99% certain that importing PSE 7 catalog to LR 2 is not possible at this time. The release cycles of the products did not coincide for that to happen. However you can import from PSE 6 I believe.
I feel sure that this will be addressed soon........... but don't know when.

  • Problem with Importing into Lightroom

I have Lightroom 5.3 64 bit installed on a Windows 7 SP1 machine. I have two pairs of mirrored HDDs for image file storage.
I: and J: are both mirrored pairs of HDDs (four discs). When I first imported the "Panorama images" image files on the (I:) drive into Lightroom, the file called "8 bit Adobe RGB Panos" was corrupted on the drive; the "8 bit Adobe RGB Panos" files were not accessible from Lightroom or Photoshop or Windows. (The screen shot above is comparable to a before-and-after screen shot; the (J:) is like the before and the (I:) is like the after screen shot. The "8 bit Adobe RGB Panos" file is there before importing into LR, but it is missing after "Panorama images" is imported into LR.)
Below is what Windows and Lightroom showed after the Import of "Panorama images" into LR.
I replaced the "8 bit Adobe RGB Panos" file, from backup media. I tried Importing the files a second time, and the same thing happened again. At that point I gave up on importing any part of the "Pano" image files into LR.
Next: I also have image capture files, camera card downloads, archived on the same mirrored arrays, in the "My Pictures" file. When I tried to Import the latest file of camera images into Lightroom from "My Pictures", LR again erased or corrupted the "8 bit Adobe RGB Panos" files, on both arrays, and again "8 bit Adobe RGB Panos" disappeared, and again I had to replace it from backup media.
This is very irritating. Very very irritating. At this point it makes Lightroom more harmful that useless.

The reason for the different drive designation is the assignment when the drives have been remounted.. The first time this occurred, the machine had one two-drive-array, "Photo Storage RAID (F:)". When I imported into LR the "Panorama images" file, the  "8 bit Panos Adobe RGB"  file path was lost. The files could not be found in PS or LR.  Windows Explorer could not find the files, and showed the odd "8BITAD-1". All of the other files in the "Panorama images" file were imported into the LR catalog.
I then replaced both discs in the RAID array with new HDDs, and rewrote the files on to them, and remounted the array (new letter assignment for the drive). I then, a few months later, tried to again Import the Panorama images file into LR. And the exact same thing happened.
I removed and rewrote both arrays, the new disc pair and the old disc pair, and remounted them, now they are drives (I:) and (J:). (One pair is  mounted to the board disc controller, and the other pair is mounted on a PCI SATA controler card,
I then imported "My pictures" (not the "Panorama Images" file) from the (I:) drive into LR, and the "8 bit Adobe RGB panos" again disappeared from the (I:) drive, That is the top screen capture. I then tried to Import the "My Pictures" file from the (J:) drive, and the "8 bits Adobe RGB panos" file disappeared from the (J:) drive; the (J:) file path looked the same as the (I:) file paths in the top screen capture.
LR imported about one half of the "My Pictures" files from the drives; all files between 2016 and 2012 were not imported into the LR catalog (The "My pictures" content files are named by dates, year_month_day).
LR is installed on a 250 gig SSD, and the catalog is also located there. (I have used PS with mirrored arrays since Windows 2000 and BX-133 MBs and PS5,)
(when the 8 bit panos go missing, they are missing from windows too)

  • JPG´s will not import into lightroom 1.4.1 ("the file appears to be unsupported or damaged")

I have converted a collection of raw files with Autopano pro to jpgs.
When importing them into lightroom 1.4.1, part of the collection is not displayed in lightroom and the software gives me the msg "the file appears to be unsupported or damaged".
The same files open up with any other jpg supporting software.
Can anybody help me with this

I was not aware of this pano program but have downloaded a trial copy and will give it a go. I just did a set of images that PTGUI could not deal with and it looks like this program did it perfectly even without muddling with the control points. Its also dealing with 1 image where I cropped out a conflicting angle of view area.
I just imported the jpeg out of this package into LR with no problems. I edited it after import to LR with Photoshop CS3 to do a cleanup crop of the pan.
I'm very impressed with PanoPro right now. Will have to purchase. PLUS...it runs either Mac or PC!!! Solves yet another problem I've had with my conversion to Apple.

  • Importing into Lightroom with card reader doesn't show previews

I am using Lightroom 2.4 with Adobe 5.4 Raw on a Windows XP based laptop -- however the problem I am having also presents on my desktop which also uses Lightroom 2.4 with Adobe 5.4 and Windows XP.  In fact the issue is completely the same on both computers:   When I try to import photos directly into Lightroom using a card reader, the interface opens, but does not show the previews -- and yes, the show preview box is checked.  The preview boxes are there, but they are completely greyed out.  If I use the same card reader but direct it to open into Photoshop Elements it shows the previews and it also shows them in Bridge for CS4. So clearly the problem doesn't lie with the computer or card or cardreader.   It seems only in Lightroom that the previews do not show up.  Adobe raw supports my camera which is set to shoot raw and it also makes a JPG copy, but neither show up.
I spent more than an hour with a tech trying to get this to work and didn't solve the problem.  I'm hoping that someone has some bright ideas that will help me out.
    Phyllis Perkins

I tried to respond before, but I think the message didn't go through.  Sorry.  Because my Lightroom hasn't been working the way it is supposed to, I have been doing what you suggest -- saving the photos from my card reader to a file through Bridge -- which does open the previews -- and then importing them to Lightroom.  But it means one extra step and Lightroom's strength is supposed to be work flow, so I would like to get it to work properly.  I think that if the card reader were faulty -- and the problem occurs with several different card readers -- that it wouldn't show the previews in Bridge or even Photoshop Elements, which it does.  So I think there is some problem with Lightroom, not the card reader.  Any other suggestions?  I'd be happy to know about them.  Meanwhile, thanks for your reply.

  • Process for exporting out of Aperture to import into Lightroom

I'm trying to convert a large library of images that is presently cataloged in Aperture 2.0 into a Lightroom 2.0 Catalog.
Aperture doesn't store the sidecar files with the raw files. Is there a procedure or plugin that will create sidecar files in the same location as the (raw) image files in a nested file structure, so that I can then import the images (where they are now on the disk) into Lightroom and retain all the information that was recorded in Aperture (e.g. star ratings, keywords)? There are many thousands of images, in a fairly complex nested file structure, and recreating the images or manually moving files where they need to be in the file structure would take many hours.
If there is a FAQ on this topic, can someone simply kindly point me to the FAQ? I tried searching but was unable to find anything useful. I found solutions that exported the master files (duplicating ALL the image files) with xmp sidecars but as noted above this would be problematic given the size and structure of the files currently in Aperture.
    Thanks!

There are 2 big problems with the export/duplication route:
    1) The files are in a fairly complicated nested structure, and they need to STAY in that nested structure.
    2) The time and disk space required to duplicate the entire library.
I don't have iView, don't know enough about Applescript to do this myself. (If I did, I would have done it already after reading the threads here that referenced iView.)
This is *extremely* frustrating. If this is a simple thing (for someone with the appropriate skillset) to write a plugin for, Adobe should have an employee or associate developer do it to ease the transition for new customers coming to Lightroom with a library already cataloged in Aperture.

  • HELP IMPORTING INTO LIGHTROOM 4.4

I am having problems all of a sudden importing my RAW files into Lightroom.  I have been doing nothing different and have been using the same equipment.  Can someone please help?  It just says that it can't read the files.

Which often means the files can't be written to the specified destination folder. So check that permissions are OK and that there isn't a space issue there.

  • Delete Keywords in Bridge? Re-import into Lightroom?

When I started trying Lightroom three weeks ago, I imported a few folders to learn with and created a keyword hierarchy.
Then when I imported all my photos, the keywords assigned in Bridge came along for the ride, giving me something to do with my time straighten it back to the structure I had created.
I use Bridge for renaming. Renaming my photos with the date first is a priority right now to help straighten out a mess of scanned photos not organized by date. It's been a slow process but necessary and I find it much easier to do in Bridge.
So now I know renaming files outside of Lightroom creates a problem. What will happen if I get rid of my Lightroom catalog; delete all keywords in Bridge (not a problem since I'm right now working in folders for renaming and can easily delete all keywords in the folder); then import all the renamed files into a new catalog in Lightroom.
Will the files keep the keywords written to them before in Lightroom even though I deleted keywords in Bridge? Or will I be deleting all keywords and have to start assigning them all over?
Hope this makes sense, I'm afraid to do anything right now!
    Peggy

    Peggy,
I think that if you are creating a new Ligtroom catalog, and importing your photos, that they will reflect what you have done in Bridge.
But, to confirm that, I would suggest that you do a small test first:
Start Lightroom, create a new catalog, import say 5 photos and see what Lighroom shows as keywords. Select a photo in Lightroom, change its keywords, save the changes and see if Bridge shows the change. Do the same then in Bridge, and Lightroom should show an icon at the top right of the frame in Grid view. Right-Click on it and "read metadata from file". The keywords should show the Bridge changes.
I think you will see that Keywords operate fairly well between both programs. (If I had the time now I would have experimented for you, but I thought that suggesting something would be faster and work better).
I think that when you have finished all your keywording in Bridge, you can safely create Lighroom catalog and import all you photos, and the new Bridge keywords will be there. (None of the old Lightroom catalog keywords should show up).
p.s I am not atall sure of the syntax in Bridge for entering Parent-Child keywords, but Lightroom's syntax is Child>Parent. I had to think about the Lightroom syntax, because I always think the > is the "greater than" symbol in maths etc, but now I look at as a branching from Parent to Child. Amazing how the little things become " gotchas".

  • Why aren't my NEF files importing into Lightroom 5 anymore?

I have a Nikon D7100 camera that I shoot Raw in.  I've imported these NEF files into Lightroom 5 from my camera on previous occasions, but recently I wanted to import new photos.  The new photos show on Lightroom's import screen but when I click on the import button the software acts like it is beginning the import process but never does, eventually showing a warning box saying the files could not be read.  What is going on and how can I fix it?

    From Marta K Tollerup,
Thanks to all who offered help with my importing problems.  I did find the problem.  I discovered that somehow the destination file was changed so Lightroom didn't know where to import to.  If you have a Mac and your run into this problem this is how I solved it.  Hook up your card reader or camera to your computer and proceed through your usual importing steps except for clicking the Import Button.  Look at the left hand side of your import dialog box (Source area) you should see a cascade of files, one inside another.  It starts with the name of your Hard Drive, then users, then your user name, then Pictures, then a file just called 2014.  This file named 2014 inside the Picture folder is what had been changed on my computer.  Once I choose it again my photos imported without any problems.  Hope this helps anyone else having a sudden problem importing your photos.  For Mac users go into your Finder and look in the Picture Folder.  You will find where Lightroom stores your photos.  I'm assuming PC users have something similar.  It helps to know where your photos are stored because then you can spot an error in the Source area of the import dialog box.
