Photoshop Effect Question

Anyone know how to achieve this effect in PS? Thanks!

It works but it seems to be really grainy; anyway to give it more
definition? Like just sharpen it or?

  • I applied a Photoshop effect to some outlined text - but the outlines still look the same?

    1. I typed out the word
    2. I created an outline of the word
    3. I went to Effect>Photoshop Effects>Texture>Stained Glass and applied
However, if you look closely, the blue outlines ignore the  the divots and holes created from the effet.
Is this effect just an overlay? I ask this because this design is for a t-shirt and I want it to look the same as it appears on my screen.
This may sound like a weird question but I'm just getting into Illustrator.
    Thanks

Photoshop Effects produce raster images. You will have to use someting like a Grunge effect using actual vector objects for it to be useful for screening onto a tee-shirt.

  • Photoshop effects

Hey everyone, i decided to post a photoshop topic here altough it may not be the right forum, so i apologize. anyway, i made a movie with a couple of friends and want to add a photoshop effect so i saved it all as an image sequence, obviously its alot to click on ever one and apply effect then save the close widnow for a couple million frames, anyway, i was wondering if there was some sort of automator that will make it apply to all the photos, or just in photoshop to apply the effect to all open windows, any help is appreciated thanks alot!

thanks for all that guys, but yet again i seemed to answer my own question... i would have added plug-ins and such however, the hole thing is to do a movie for a school project and be as creative as possible without spending money and using the resources available to us. i appreciate all of that... turns out that if u use the actions panel on the side, that you can record actions for photoshop to perform and you can continuosly loop it, for example i recorded my poster edge effect the save commmand, then close window, and it keeps doing that all i need to do is tape down enter for when it asks to replace the file, real easy, i finished about 400 frames by just leaving the computer with the enter button taped, best thing was that it stops once it runs out of files.f..
    again thanks for the help...

  • Photoshop effects vs. FW's own dropdown shadow, etc.

I was wondering what the difference is between Fw's drop down shadow and the Photoshop effects that come with cs3.
I realize this is rather a lame question, but that's how things have been as of late...

    Hi Paevo
The photoshop effect has got the spread option which makes the shadow wider with less blur and the size option and also gives you the ability to add noise to the shadow.
They both have some common characteristics but this seems to have been an easy way to add some more filters in FWs.

  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 and Photoshop effects

I am about to buy a MacBook Pro and cant decide between the one with dedicated GPU and the one without. I want to go for the one without - the increased battery performance and lack of overheating are favourable. BUT... I cant get a deffinate answer to whether the Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 5200 on the 4th gen i7 processors (ie the one without the dedicated GPU) will run all these Photoshop effects:
Adaptive Wide Angle Filter (compatible video card required)
Liquify (accelerated with compatible video card with 512 MB of VRAM)
Oil Paint (compatible video card required)
Warp and Puppet Warp (accelerated with compatible video card)
Field Blur, Iris Blur, and Tilt/Shift (accelerated with compatible video card supporting OpenCL)
Lighting Effects Gallery (compatible video card required with 512 MB of VRAM)
New 3D enhancements (3D features in Photoshop require a compatible video card with 512 MB of VRAM):
    Draggable Shadows
    Ground plane reflections
    Roughness
    On-canvas user interface controls
    Ground plane
Light widgets on edge of canvas IBL (image-based light) controller
I don't need them to run massively fast, I just need to know if they will work without a dedicated GPU. I appreciate the Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 5200 supports open gl/cl but I cant find an idiots proof answer if that means all these features will work. HELP! Cheers

Since Adobe and AMD have a relationship, you can expect the higher end Adobe effects to support discrete Nvidia cards, and probably not put much energy into GPU support for Intel HD 5000 graphics. Yes, PS will run on HD 5000 chips, but you may find that some higher demand features get automatically disabled by the Photoshop GPU "sniffer", and others that do work, may suffer poorer performance, or full feature support.
Suggest you post your question in the Adobe Photoshop community too.

  • Photo/Photoshop Effect Ideas

I'm doing a project for a photo for a photo class I am, but this time my teacher has said that we can do whatever we want. I want t do something creative. I am limited when it comes to taking pictures. I live in a place where there are basically a few malls and stores. No good landscapes nearby. There is, however a creak behind my house, but it's definitely not one worth taking a photo of. Anyways, back to what I was saying, I'm looking for a nice photoshop effect or something that I can do to a picture that's not just retouching (for instance, one of my friends has turned one of the portraits she's taken into picture that looks like it was painted over in watercolor). Any ideas would be helpful! I can provide more information if needed!
P.S. I'm sincerly sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, I've only been on here a few times, but you all seem to have such great ideas for people.

So? Take a picture of a cityscape, and give it a 'Techno' feel. Maybe make it an ad poster for an imaginary band/concert. Google 'PhotoShop tutorials' for sites with a whole host of methods and ideas.
    Good luck.

We’re not aware of any issues using that specific card with Photoshop and all features should be supported.

  • Silent film effects questions

    Hi,
I'm shooting a film in which I'm trying to replicate the look of a silent film and have a few questions someone can hopefully help me with. (I'm using FCP 4.0)
    1. I'm trying to do an iris to transition between scenes, i.e. the screen will go black and the picture will diminish into a smaller and smaller circle, eventually leaving nothing but black. FCP 4 has an 'iris' transition, but it seemingly works in the opposite manner; a small circle of the next scene in the timeline (in this case an empty black frame) will start out small in the image and increase to cover the entire screen. How can I fix this to achieve the effect I'm going for?
    2. This one may seem stupid and there must be a very obvious answer, but I can't figure out how to go about it. I'm trying to make a silent film title card and have no idea how to make the border that's usually around them without it just looking like cheap straight lines. Any ideas?
    3. This isn't really related, but I shot using a wide angle lens and the lens is visible at the edges of the frame in all of my footage. I've been blowing the image up to about 106-108% (sometimes adjusting the center of the image) under the Motion tab in order to basically zoom past the edges of the lens in the image. Is there a better way to go about this, or is this really all I can do?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    1. After you apply the iris transition...dbl-click it to bring it into the viewer. You'll see a very tiny arrow towards the top right of the transition interface...click on it...it will reverse itself.
    2. You could create something in photoshop, or search your computer for 'matte' or 'mask'...see what's available. I know Digital Juice has gobs of them and you may have additional software installed that has something you could use.
    3. You might try vignetting the entire video...again, you may find a matte or mask somewhere on your computer, or you could create one using the 'Shapes/Circle (or Oval)', from the pulldown at bottom right of your viewer (has a film frame with an 'A' in it). Once you've tweaked it, just save it out as a .tif and import for use as a mask/matte. There are a variety of ways to incorporate it, including composite modes.

  • Adobe Photoshop Touch Question / Issue

    Hello,
I bought Adobe Photoshop Touch some time ago for my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and I liked it so much. Of all the apps I had for photo editing, this one gave me all I need. I used to own Adobe Photoshop CS2 on my old PC so I wanted something for my tab as well. I was very satisfied by this app until my tab died some time ago. After a pain of service and repairs, the tab worked again but it had a new issue. Anytime I used the device on something more demanding (i.e. playing games ) the tab overheated a lot and the screen started to touch itself very much as, if it was pressed all the time. After some time of struggle with it I decided to wipe it clean and pass it out to a family member who would maybe dedicate more time to fix it.
Last month I bought myself a new device ( Sony Xperia Z ) and I was eager to get all my data on it and apps of course. To my sadness Adobe Photoshop Touch is not compatible with my device now, and it just sits there in my app list doing nothing . I could install only Photoshop Express but it does not give me the full access I had with Touch. I saw that there is another product called Photoshop Touch for smartphones and it seems to be the same as what I had only phone edition.
My problem is that I can not get this new app unless I pay for it and I do not wish to do that because I already paid for the previous edition.
My question is: Can I somehow obtain the Smartphone edition and the previous version ( which apparently is for tablets I suppose ) be removed from my Google Play account. I would purchase the smartphone version but there is no point in having 1 app 2 times.
I would happily like the staff to remove my previous version from my account if they would gave me the smartphone version and I acknowledge that the tab app was more expensive than the smartphone version and Adobe will not refund me the money difference nor are they obligated to give me the smartphone version. I am just asking if it would be possible because I like that app and it's such a shame for it to be in my app list and not be used. Thank you for your time in reading this and no matter what answer I get, I will be ok with it. Have a nice day .

I don't think you'll have much luck. PS Touch for tablets was designed for just tablets; PS Touch for phones was designed for just phones. Touch for phones came out a little later than Touch for tablets. (By several months, if I recall.) On the brighter side, if you ended up buying Touch for phones, you'd be covered no matter which device you had.
Both are very similar in function. I believe the only differences are their UIs; Touch for tablets is landscape-oriented-specific while Touch for phones is portrait-oriented. (Some elements are also placed differently.) I imagine this allows for maximum utilization of screen real estate and element placement.

  • What are the forensic limitations of Metadata & Exif Data+ Adobe Photoshop 3 question; e.g. Metadata

    I have some questions regarding metadata, and exif data on digital   cameras and its forensic limitations in Adobe photoshop 3;
For  instance; After a picture is taken and has a metadata/exif digital   stamp of the "picture being taken day" under what circumstances can  that  "picture being taken day" be changed?
Does the picture  being taken day change when you import it into adobe  photoshop 3 and  add a caption?
Does it change only when the picture is edited,  to perhaps add a white  sidebar that says "family photo" or whatever?
Under what circumstances does the exif/metadata digital time stamp  of  the "picture being taken day" change?
Also, is it possible  to change the picture being taken day on a  photograph in adobe  photoshop 3 manually?
    Thanks-
    Phil

I guess it would be easier to give you an example. The above picture shows the exif data as 9.11.2001. How is this possible if this is a 911 victim? In the top metadata, it says Adobe photoshop 3. I assume this is the program it was last edited in? Or was adobe software used exclusively in cameras back then perhaps? I am not sure, I just know I have many questions I really want answers to. Was the exif data changed perhaps in the above photo on 9.11.2001 to add that white sidebar, which says (Family photo) ?? Click the image below to see the screenshot of what I am looking at, this way we are on the same page or picture so to  speak.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciatted...
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • Photoshop workflow question

I read somewhere that using <ALT> + Click you can use to load alpha channels could someone verify what is the correct method ? And clipping only applies to the background layer when you apply a change to the canvas I was told but I'm unclear about this.

You mean to use guides? that's probably just to get reproduceable
effects so instead of dragging around until it "looks good", you drag
out a guide and then modify until your object hits that guide or
something like that. You'll probably see this in tutorials which want
to make sure that you're on the same page as them.
I'm probably going to have to go back and find that section of the tutorial regarding guides and the warp tool
The thing with Illustrator isn't that you need to save out .PDF files,
it's that when you save your .AI files you have to select the Create
PDF Compatible File checkbox otherwise you won't be able to open them
in Photoshop, Smart Objects or no. Just try to open such a file in
Photoshop, see what it tells you
I will do that, I'm just brushing up on some things with photoshop.  Many have photoshop but many cannot call themselves advanced users

  • If you need help quickly... Guideline for posting an effective question.

Whenever you have a question that you would like answered, do pose that question effectively.
First, do not assume that because you have tried many, many times that your question is understood by someone else. What is obvious to you may not be for another. So please state in a very detailed and structured way what steps you have taken to cause your problem, how you can replicate this problem, under what circumstances on what hardware/software.
The fact that you have nearly given up because of your problem does not mean that someone else can readily understand this problem. When you go to your doctor and say: "I have a pain in my stomach" he will ask you a lot of questions. Same applies here. Your doctor may need to know about any medication you have taken, your blood pressure, history, etc. If you want help, be as PRECISE and ACCURATE as possible.
Second, this is a USER TO USER forum. So ranting will not help. What may help is a STRUCTURED approach to describing the problem you have.
Third, do a thorough search of posts here, on other fora and with Google before repeating what has been asked a thousand times and has worn out the patience of regulars here, who have answered your question a dozen times already. Use the FAQ and the Wiki to find answers to questions that have been posed and answered repeatedly. Do not assume you are unique with your problem. Well, you are unique, the problem you have most likely is not.
Fourth, realize that even though it may be highly frustrating to you to not be able to solve YOUR problem, by posting your question here, you are dependent on fellow editors to help you on their free time without compensation, so bear with them to help identify what EXACTLY is your problem. If you lack that decency, you may forfeit their help, so why did you come here?
Fifth, consider your work flow in light of the purpose of Premiere, an editing package. If you have problems with rotoscoping, programming with APL, spreadsheets in general, word processing on a mobile phone, importing Panda bears into a local zoo, feeding nearly distinct whales in the Alps, or anything far removed from the purpose of PP, you may be better off in posting your question elsewhere.

If everybody has the decency to pose their urgent, life threatening or other questions in a detailed, structured and comprehensible way, it will vastly improve the chances of speedy and helpful replies, without the need for sarcasm, bundles of to-and-fro posts without meaningful help, just wasting bandwidth.
I know I have been rightly accused of such behavior, which was the result of sheer frustration with absolutely meaningless and often pointless questions without details, structure and the like. The most frustrating issues one can encounter are hangs, BSOD's (blue screens of death), system errors and other cases of seemingly random erros that require rebooting, restarting or similar actions, only to be confronted with the next hang, BSOD or system crash.
These errors are often difficult to locate, due to the large variety of systems, components and driver or software versions in use. This is often further aggravated by sheer lack of expertise, understanding of what needs to be communicated in order for others to help solve the issue at hand. And that list is very long.
So, in order to make it a bit simpler for the average user who encounters these problems, follow the following steps when posting a problem:
    1. Clearly describe the main problem in the topic, but be brief. Not so brief as to only say: "Help!" or "URGENT" or another meaningless statement but get to the point, like: "PP crashes on opening, requiring a reboot" or "Using DL the system hangs upon return to PP". You get the point.
    2. Briefly describe your hardware, software, OS and versions in use, including disk setup, video card and driver versions, etc.
    3. Describe source material, including codec (not AVI, which is not a codec), project settings and other relevant info.
    4. Describe as accurately as possible what you did, what steps you took, what happened at what moment and what you did to try to resolve it.
    5. Go to Start/Run, type in DXDIAG, enter and save all information to a TXT file. Include a link to that file in your post.
    6. Go to Start/Run, type in MSINFO32 (or similar for 64 bit OS), enter and save the results as a .NFO file. Include a link to that file in your post.
    7. Download Process Explorer , and either post a screen shot or a link to the results.
    8. Make a screen shot of the results of SpeedFan or HW Monitor and include that in your post.
When you perform these basic steps, you avoid endless questions about your system and people may be able to help you faster.

Hope this helps to post more meaningful questions and get an answer much quicker.

Not as a unified "effect." Believe you could approximate the effect using separate "still frame sequences" for each change in vector motion (i.e., change in speed and/or direction). Basically it would be a process of butting together an number Ken Burns Effects. I would probably create the main "board" at maximum iMovie '08 storage resolution (depends on project aspect ratio) in an application like Photoshop, import it as a "still frame sequence," and create the first KBE in the iMovie project. Thereafter, copy-paste the previous sequence to the project, reverse start/end views so each clip will "merge" properly, build new display vector, adjust duration to speed up or slow down the vector, and repeat this editing procedure until you are finished.

Cool idea. I played around with the Crop and 4 point Garbage Matte effects and was able to achieve something similar.

  • Lighting Effect Question

I recently installed PS CC and am working with some images that I'd like to apply lighting effects to. In particular I'm trying to apply the spot light effect. I see all the appropriate controls and can manipulate the individual characteristics. However, the lighting effect appears to be getting applied to the entire image (i.e., not focused to the spot outline). The effect is like a complete layer blend as opposed to a targetted effect.
I've confirmed that "use graphics processor" is selected and that the image is 8-bit RGB. This is on Win7 64-bit (Dell Core i7 w/8GB RAM and a fast internal HD).
    Anyone have any ideas here?
