  • Cannot install my costco photoshop 12 please help.  it is now installing itself.  Will take it back tomorrow.

I have been working on installing this software for weeks now and am at the end.  The first time the organizer installed but the editor wouldn't.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and am ready to take this application back to the store.  I have a Vista machine.

It still didn't work.  I paid for Photoshop 12 at Costco.  The organizer downloaded just fine but when I tried to use the editor, the screen appeared asking for my Adobe sign on, I signed on, and then the application just churned.  I had to use task manager to stop it.  Per your instruction, I downloaded Photoshop 13 from the site, it downloaded fine and then asked for my Adobe sign on and then just churned.  I can now access Photoshop 13 organizer but still can't get editor.
This is ridiculous.  Last night I did the msconfig.exe and followed the instructions on changing the start up menu and disabling everything.
I am furious about this.  It looks like you want me to pay for Photoshop Elements 13 when I can't get 12 to work.  This is a Vista machine.

  • After installing icloud, I can't open Photoshop CS, please help. I am an artist and need photoshop to work.

After installing icloud, I can't open Photoshop CS, please help. I am an artist and need photoshop to work.

Did you upgrade to Lion just before setting up iCloud? that's more likely to be the issue. PhotoShop CS2 is a PPC program and won't run on Lion - on Snow Leopard it requires Rosetta to emulate PPC, and this is not included in Lion. CS3 and lateer apparently work though with issues.
Click on the program's icon in the Finder and hit command-i. Near the top of the pane it will say 'Kind': if it says 'PowerPC' then this is the problem. It will not run on Lion and there is no workaround. You will need to revert to Snow Leopard (you could install this on an external disk and start up from that).

  • Can't convert Canon CR2 RAW files to photoshop CS2- please help!

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XT and am using Photoshop CS2 and can not open my Raw images. Canon saves the images as a CS2 file. I guess needs converting.. Please Help!!

    Daag Kees,
    >[Kees] DNG converter 4_3_1 don't convert my raw Leica M8- images to digital negatives files that will open in Photoshop CS 8.0.1. (Camera raw 2.0).
Of course not. You need ACR (Camera Raw) version 2.4. Version 2.0 does NOT support DNGs.
After you correctly install ACR 2.4 according to the instructions on the download page and after you relaunch Photoshop, you need to Purge the Cache for each folder.
    >[Michael] Simply run the DNG converter and point it at your M8 raw files and they will be converted to DNG.
Nope. Point the DNG Converter to a folder containing RAW files, not to the raw files themselves. The DNG Converter works on Folders containing raw files, not on individual files.
    >What means "using Bridge" ?
Forget that. It does NOT apply to Photoshop 8.x. In CS3, you can have ACR hosted either by Photoshop or by Bridge. Photoshop 8.x doesn't even have Bridge.

  • Invalid Photoshop Document PLEASE HELP

Yesterday night I was painting a picture on Photoshop, and I saved then closed my laptop to go to bed. Today I tried to open the file again, but it said that Photoshop could not complete my request due to it being an invalid document. I am both shocked and sad by this event because I don't know how to fix it, It will not open with programs such as paint and I've checked the properties and everything seems fine. Someone please help! I don't know what to do :C

You may have saved the file with the wrong extension. (saved a PSD, but with a .tif extension for example.) If this is the case, you should just be able to rename the file with the extension of the format the file was actually saved as and it will open okay.

photoshop (ps) cs4 is an older version of the current photoshop (cc 2014).
that ps cs4 version should be editable in ps cc so i'm not sure it will help you to download ps cs4, but the link is below.  further, it doesn't make sense that a resume template would be a psd file.  it makes more sense that it would be a pdf file and you need adobe acrobat.

  • Cannot Install Photoshop CS5 [Please Help] :(

I have tried multiple times to install Photoshop CS5; it never works. I have tried using different Internet browsers, with and without the Akamai download application, and by clicking 'Run As Administrator'.
The first time I tried to install Photoshop CS5, I used the Akamai downloader. Because the Akamai application is a writhing piece of garbage, I, of course, came out with an error. I then decided to download the files directly, without the Akamai downloader.
After downloading the files directly, I was certain I would not have any issues. Wrong. Windows found a way to piss me off and gave me an error while extracting the files using PowerArchiver. The error stated that the following:
    "Error writing to a file.
"Possible reasons: Disk full or no write permissions.
"Please check if you have permissions to write to this folder.
    "Vista users:
"In Microsoft Vista, writing to certain folders is not allowed (i.e. C:\Program Files). You will need to start PowerArchiver as Administrator. If you are extracting files you can use drag and drop from PowerArchiver main interface to extract files to that error.
    "Error: 0."
I have checked my hard drive space - I have enough space. I checked the write permissions of the folder I was extracting to - I am permitted to extract the files to that folder. I have tried 'Run As Administrator' in PowerArchiver, and still no success.
Could someone please assist me because I want to use try out Photoshop CS5 until it expires, and I can't do so if Windows wants to screw me over all the time.
    Some Things to Note...
    I am using Windows 7 64-Bit
My computer can handle Photoshop CS5 (I checked)
I have tried using Firefox and Google Chrome
I have tried using the Akamai downloader and not using the Akamai downloader
    I have tried multiple fixes
Windows is trash - I knew I should have bought a Mac...
Thanks in advance I apologize for my sour attitude. I am just really fristrated at the moment.

I feel your frustration, but take heart, Windows 7 is not trash.  You just need to become its master, and doing so requires different machinations and skills than with past versions.
Let me also say that the greener grass on the Mac side is spray paint.  Trust me, I am involved with both.  Windows is more powerful - once you master it.
First, if you're having problems you perceive as the system blocking you from getting what you want done, may I suggest that you may be a candidate for disabling User Account Control.  This is not a decision to be taken lightly - you should fully understand what UAC does for you and why you might want to disable it.
In a nutshell, UAC makes everything you do, even though you may be logged-in with an account that's in the Administrators group, operate as though you are a lowly non-privileged user, and attempts to prompt you with an annoying dialog every time you try to do something that requires Administrator privileges.  I say "attempts" because it doesn't always happen when it needs to.
    I suggest reading further here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control
If you become convinced you'd rather be an Administrator all the time, and are willing to take the risk that software you run from now on will be able to make arbitrary changes to your computer that require Administrator privileges, you can disable UAC; it's really quite simple to do.
To do so, click Start and type UAC into the search box.  When Change User Account Control Settings comes up, click it.  Drag the slider to the bottom, confirm the dialog, then reboot your system.
If you had any problems because of UAC, this will work around them.
    ALL THAT SAID...
I suspect your problems run deeper than just UAC, and possibly disabling UAC won't help you with this specific problem.  You may have permissions issues...
Did you upgrade your operating system from an earlier version?
Was the disk originally formatted or the data put on the disk by another computer?

  • Unable to uninstall Photoshop CS4 please help

    When I try
to uninstall (does not work) the trial version of PCS4 from Contr
ol Panel (Windows 7) it says
    SYSTEM CHECK
Critical errors were found in set up for Adobe Photoshop CS4
The installer database is invalid: please re-install the product from the original media.
Please see the setup log file for detail.
OK, first I tried to see the set up log and for that I downloaded the Adobe Support Advisor. When I was installing it I got a message
"This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which cannot be found. Please download the latest version of the Adobe AIR from www.adobe.com/go/getair or contact the application author for an updated version.
And the AIR could not be downloaded because of some " Critical Error"! To be exact it says It may not be allowed by your Administrator. The trick is that I am logged as an admin all the time!
I wasted a lotta time for nothing and feel very frustrated! It looks like I will have to re-install Windows 7, because Restore Pointes are not saved.
    So boring....
Tried to clean script -  downloaded a program - it won't work
    Any suggestions maybe?

Wow. It sounds like you have a hosed installation of the trial. Also, it sounds like there are some other problems with the system.
Now, there are utilities to remove programs. CleanSweep (last by Symantec) was one, but there must be more. One could let such a utility scan their system, then use it to remove the program. At that time, I'd run the Adobe Clean Script CS4 and then a Registry cleaner, like CCleaner.
Good luck, and I think that you have some more troubleshooting ahead of you to fix other issues.

  • How do I get photos off old edition of Photoshop? Please help!

I downloaded the free trial of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition a while ago and since then, whenever I upload photos from my camera onto the computer they automatically go onto this programme.  This happened the other day and the photos were deleted from my camera but I was then told that my trial had run out and to get it again I had to click on something and they would send me an email with an unlock code.  I then got an email saying that this edition was no longer available and to get another one.  So I downloaded another trial but I still can't get the photos off the old edition off Photoshop without the unlock code they asked for.  Is there anyway I can get them? Thanks.

It is a common misconception that Starter Edition 'stores', or copies, your files into it. But the program does not move or copy files at all, rather it scans your system's My Pictures directory, and generates miniature versions of your pictures (called thumbnails) so that you can browse a 'flat' list of thumbnails of your photos, overcoming the inconvenience of having to go into separate folders in Windows Explorer to have to find files. The thumbnails, as well as any tags, and Albums that you create in Starter Edition are all stored in the Photoshop Album catalog file, separate from your pictures, and your pictures remain where you originally copied them to your computer.
If you use Photoshop Album to subsequently download files from a digital camera or scanner, the default location where the program will create those files would be in the My Pictures>Digital Camera Photos folder. But if you do NOT use Photoshop Album Starter edition to download files from your camera, then you will find that folder empty.
The thumbnails in the Starter Edition catalog will exist, even if you decide to move or delete the original photos that were added to the program. This will cause files in the Photoshop Album catalog to become 'disconnected' from the original photos. To reconnect the files, you can use the File>Reconnect Missing files command to see if the program can locate the original files in a new location, and once again re-link the catalog thumbnails to the files they once referenced.
Since Photoshop Album has been discontinued, I recommend that folks find an alternative solution. One alternative that will preserve most of what you've created in Starter Edition is the Photoshop Elements 8 trial. Install that, and it will automatically convert the Photoshop Album catalog to a current format, and the program will not time out, as Starter Edition did. If you want to purchase more Editing power, you can also choose to purchase the full program, but it's not required.
If you are like many who have come to this forum wondering how you can get to your photos, now that the program has become locked or expired, don't worry; your photos have never been moved by Photoshop Album; they remain wherever you intially put them, on your hard drive. To get to them, you can navigate your file system using Windows Explorer. They are typically in your My Documents>My Pictures folder. Here is a handy How-To that you could refer to to find photos on your system, as well as some other tips for how you can use folders to keep your photos organized: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/maintain/filemgmt.mspx
    Hope those tips help!

  • Why aperture rather than photoshop? Please help!

Hi everybody, I have a noisy question in my mind. Today I have bought an apple pro training manual for Aperture. I work with photos, I am a photographer and today I have done my first steps into the world of aperture.
I was happy using it, learning lesson by lesson but than my friend asked me : "I do not know photographer who use Aperture. they just use Photoshop, why do you want to learn it?". I said "well...."
Now the question is : why shall I use Aperture rather than Photoshop? what does it gave me more or different than Photoshop? I know that I can easily handle RAW formats and I know the "nondestructive" thing, but...
I really would like to have an opinion from you.

    rmrpix,
i have read your "5% photoshop theory" before in some
other threads, and in my (humble) opinion, this is
wrong. for me, only the combination of both, aperture
AND photoshop make it work. aperture is perfect for
managing the images etc. however before any of our
photo is used/released/printed, we run it through
photoshop. even a near perfect image can be improved.
and such changes can (to use your 95/5% theory) in
95% of the cases only be achieved with photoshop.
so for me it's the combination of both - and on a
personal note - i love aperture, but couldn't work
    without photoshop.
    Steebow,
Neither could I work without Photoshop, and I agree that any image, no matter how perfect, CAN be improved in Photoshop. But my point is why do that unless the image absolutely needs it? Where does a little image improvement cost too much in post-processing time and effort? Let me give you an example:
Let's say I have a shoot of 250 photos from a corporate or community event. I shoot a lot of events like golf tournaments, community and corporate functions, so that's what I'll use as my example. I recognize this size shoot (as well as the client requirements) may be far less than some posters shoot for typical weddings or other assignments, but it's still a decent batch of images.
Out of these 250 images, I might throw out 40-50 at image ingestion - they are too flawed to merit ANY post processing.
Out of the remaining 200 or so I might find 50-60% that are not "proof image quality", either because:
    1) they have some flaw that is not bad enough for discard, but not good enough for "proof quality"; or
    2) they are near duplicates of the same image, taken to make sure no one is blinking, or to bracket exposures, or as part of a sequence to catch a candid action/facial expression, etc.
I don't discard these images, documenting them with metadata and keeping them in Aperture for a complete record of the shoot. But I don't perform ANY post processing on them, in either Aperture or Photoshop.
The remaining 80-100 images will be submitted to the client as proofs. For proof purposes - and I make this clear to my clients - I perform ONLY global image processing - straighten the horizons, globally adjust tones and colorcast, occasionally adding a bit of highlight-shadow adjustment or sharpening (over the default Raw Fine Tuning paramaters if the image needs it.) All of this can be done quite adequately in Aperture. The proofs are submitted as low res images on contact sheets, CD/DVD, or - more and more frequently - on a private access web page. Why should I "Photoshop" the images more at this stage? What value does that add for the time expended?
A typical client for my practice is using the images for flyers, newsletters, perhaps an occasional annual report. So the client select rate is perhaps 1-in-5 to 1-in-6, possibly lower. In this example that's maybe maybe 15-25 images out of 250 taken. Many (but not all) of these client selects may require Photoshop to produce finals, depending on the clients output needs. (If they only need 1/4 page B&W images for a newsletter, I will usually do this in Aperture.) So for this type of shoot I hit Photoshop for maybe 6-10% of the original images. Even then I make extensive use of batch processing actions to minimize Photoshop "mouse time".
Everyone's business (or personal style) is different, but I'm convinced that careful workflow/digital asset management will in the end reduce, not expand Photoshop processing time. Having, like most, started out trying to "Photoshop" everything I shot, (the "After all, that is MY IMAGE and I want to make it perfect" syndrome), I learned long before Aperture was released that careful image capture, even more careful image evaluation, and always thinking about efficiency of workflow, is the best way to spend less time in front of the monitor so I can spend more time behind the camera. To me, and for my uses, that means using Photoshop when I need it and not a minute more. But YMMV.

  • I am making an ad for a virtual magazine. It needs to have a hyperlink to my website, but must be submitted in a TIFF, PDF, JPEG, or EPS file. How can I do this with the Photoshop file I have already made? Please Help!!

New to Photoshop here, please help!

Normally the best way to create an add is to to do it and to export it as PDF/X-4.
From Photoshop you can save as PDF, choose either the standard as the printer asks for or save as PDF/X-4.
Never use in any case EPS.
If the add contains vectors and/or fonts PDF is the best file type.
If no text or vectors are used you could use JPG with high compression quality, tiff or (not in your case) psd.
    Take care that
Your file is not flattened to background, so all layers are alive, otherwise fonts will be rasterized.
You file should have a resolution in minimum between 240 and 300 ppi (not dpi)
With the text: is it pure black or is it 4c-black? K-Black is easier to accomplish in InDesign.
Don't make small elements in 4c.

  • Please help me install Pattern Maker?

    Hi,
    At this url:

I am trying to download the plugin:
    CS5_Optional_PlugIns_Installer.dmg
    The files included are:
    CS5 Optional Extension Plug-Ins.mxp
    and
    CS5 Optional Plugins.mxp
When I attempt to install either of these two files, I get the following error message:
I’m attempting to place the installs into the Applications> Photoshop CS5 > Plugins > Optional Plugins
    I'm on a Mac OS 10.6.5
    What am I doing wrong?
Thank you so much in advance.
    Linda

    Hi Linda,
Sorry if I confused, but I just want to make sure that you don't have all the Optional Extensions installed and enabled (as fallout from trying to get Pattern Maker working). There are two .mxp files and you mentioned trying to install both of them. I haven't seen the actual error you get, so to be safe, I'm suggesting that you make sure to disable all the Optional Extensions (and likely all the optional plug-ins that you don't need too). The installers are/were all or nothing (I'm not sure if the installer .mxp for Optional Extensions has been removed yet).
The quickest way to uninstall is using the CS5 Service Manager application (IF it is working correctly). The quickest way to tell if they are installed is probably to look in this folder: Adobe Photoshop CS5/Plug-Ins/Extensions.
There should only be 5 there by default: Enable Async IO, FastCore, MMXCore, MultiProcessor Support, and ScriptingSupport.
Let me know if you still have  questions,
    regards,
    steve

    Hi Linda,
If you installed the Optional Extensions Plug-Ins.mxp you'll want to uninstall all of them (or disable them and only enable individual ones that are needed). To uninstall, use the CS5 Extension Manager. To disable them, individually rename each with a tilde(~) as the first character.
