Photoshop Elements 10 - changing default file time

When I scan a file in Photoshop Elements 10 the default file type is always BMP.  Is there anyway to make it default to JPEG?  I work with a lot of files and having to change each one is an extra step I would like to get rid of.  Thanks

Very important : your catalog does not contain your pictures. They are where you have imported them in your computer. If they are all under a master folder like 'My Pictures' or 'Pictures', you should set your backup software to backup those folders.
The catalog itself is mainly a database keeping all the information about your pictures : location, keywords, ratings, albums...
It's a folder containing the dababase and several other components. You find its location looking in the help section, system info.
The integrated backup / restore process in Elements saves both your media files and the catalog.

Yes, if you have PSE 11 (not the mac app store version). You will need to go to Help>Updates in the editor to update ACR to 7.3.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 Editor : File/Open - How can I set a default folder ?

    Hi
When I am in the Photoshop Elements 11 Editor and I want to load a picture from "My Pictures" on my hard disk ...
    I go the menu item File/Open ...
Right now PE11 opens the last picture folder I worked with before ...
How can I make PE11 show the root directory of the "My Pictures" Library.
I do not want people to see which pictures I have been working with lately.

Before quitting the app after you have worked clic Edit->Preferences and click Reset preferences on next launch.
This would reset the settings and next time it will open my pictures by default with file open,
    Thanks,
    Garry

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Default Issue

I have installed PE 12, but I'm unable to open my photos using Photoshop Elements 12 as default. (I must first open PE 12, choose Open: then navigate to the photo.)
I have several other versions of PE installed, including PE 11. Right now when I double-click on a photo, it opens in PE 11. When I choose Open with: the dialog box lists only PE 11. When I go to Choose default program: PE 12 is not shown. When I go to Browse: then navigate to the .exe file for PE 12, my computer just adds another PE 11 to the list.
How do I correct this, so that when I double-click on a photo, it automatically open in PE 12?
    Thanks,
    Rick

I downloaded a 'trial' edition of Elements 12. When it installed it asked if it was a trial or if I had an activation code.  I entered what I have and it completed installing.  Running it the first time tells me I have 7 days to complete (can't remember other than login info.)  Hope this works!

  • Photoshop Elements - preferred 'default' Layout?

When I first started using the program, the opened files were 'tabbed', only one open a time in the workspace. Then I made the mistake of playing wiith the other options, to see what thy presented, and ever since, the 'default' Layout is 'floating', which is NOT what I want. Why did the software reset itself, and where (if anywhere) is the magic user option that altered the original display and would let me reset to what it calls 'default' layout? Regardless of whether I use the 'Windows>Images>Consolidate all to tabs' or Layout>Default to get the tabs, the next time I load a set of images I'm back to floating. Maddening - cannot find this described in either of the 2 reference books I bought NOR by searching online Adobe.

Depending on the version of photoshop elements your using, you should be able to go to (Photoshop Elements) Edit>Preferences>General
and uncheck Allow Floating Documents in Full Edit Mode or Allow Floating Documents in Expert Mode.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 crashes every time I run it.

Photoshop Elements Editor 10 crashes every single time I run it.  It simply freezes and I get a message saying "Program not responding".  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but it simply will not run.  The Organizer runs fine but Editor just dies.  I have a brand new core i3 machine, with 4 GB of RAM and a brand new install of Win7 64 bit.  Any ideas??

Can't check folder location now as I'm away from the PC.  However I allowed it to install with the default settings. As it's a 32bit application I thought it would install to the Program Files (x86) folder by default.  And yes I am running it from an administrator account.
The other strange thing I noticed before I had to leave work was that after installing Photoshop my Print Spooler service had crashed, not sure if this is linked.  Does Photoshop try and scan for printers on launch?  I tried stopping and restarting the service but it didn't seem to work, spooler still dead and Photoshop dead.  Also Excel 2010 now crashing on open, may also be linked the spooler being dead.  Word and Outlook both still running though.
Will try and investigate spooler service issue further tomorrow.

  • Photoshop Elements as Default Photo Viewer

I have successfully installed Photoshop Elements 4.0. Now I would like to make it my "default" photo viewer--i.e. when I open a photo, I would like it to be in Photo Shop rather than the previous application, which was the Microsoft Photo viewer that came pre-installed on my computer. I haven't been able to find information in the Adobe help section and FAQs on how to do this. Can anyone help me?

Most people want to know how to keep PSE from being the default viewer. :) Actually, the default viewer is a Windows function and not controlled by Elements, but it's an easy thing to change.
Find one of the image files on your hard drive of the type you want to have open automatically in Elements, e.g. all JPEG files. Right click on the image icon and go to Choose Program to Open. If Elements doesn't show on the list, there is a place at the bottom where you can view other program options. Select PSE 4.0 as the default viewer, and also make sure you choose the option to apply the change to all files of the same type. You'll have to do the same thing for each file format, like PSD, TIFF, etc.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 Default brushes

On the "Learn Photoshop Elements Today! A DVD Training Course for Elements 11" many of the tutorials show in the default brushes a brush stroke that tapers to a point at the beginning and ending of the brush stroke.  I cannot find or create this brush type.  Where do I find it?

This is what Jan Walker said last year in one of the forums that I don't remember:
Photoshop Elements—Windows: How to Install Brushes
Here's the installation path for adding Brushes (.abr files) to Photoshop Elements, all versions
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements (your version)\Presets\Brushes
However, we recommend not installing them at all. Lots of us keep our brush files in a file on our computer and simply load the brushes as we need to use them. Loading brushes this way instead of installing them keeps Photoshop Elements from being over-burdened with too much stuff to load when you open it, thus slowing it down.
To load your brushes as need them, simply open the Brush Picker, click on the right facing triangle at the top to open a flyout menu, and choose Load Brushes. When the dialog box comes up, navigate to the brushes folder on your hard drive and double click on the brush set you want to load. The brush set will load and will stay there until you change brushes.
    Using the Preset Manager
If you want the new brush set to show up without the default brushes disappearing, you can load them from the Preset Manager.
    •     Choose Edit > Preset Manager.
    •     Click on Append.
    •     Navigate to the brush set you want to load and double click on it.
    •     You can add other brushes if you wish by clicking Add.
    •     When you're finished, click Done.
    •     Open the Brush Picker and scroll to the bottom below the default brushes to see the new brushes you loaded.
    Good luck.

When I launch PS 11 and open a photo it crashes. It doesn't make any difference what photo I try to open.

I started with the command, option and shift keys down to reinstall the preferences file.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 - Organizer - File size too large

I have a new computer running Windows 7 with gobs of RAM and hard drive space.  I’ve recently installed Photoshop Elements 8.
I am having the following problem in the Organizer for some 35MM slides that I’ve scanned at 1600DPI.  It looks like the pixel size in one example is 9590x6013 = 57,664,670.  Based on some reading on the internet it appears that the standard limit in Organizer is 54 megapixels (56,623,104 pixels).  Looking over all of my slides I think I will need around 62-65,000,000.
I found an Adobe TechNote, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402760.html, that seems to address this issue for earlier versions.  I’ve tried a few times with no luck to follow these notes but there are some differences in my Registry as I’ve noted below in steps 4&5 of the instructions.
I’ve restarted both my computer and Photoshop Elements after making the registry change with no change in the Organizer message.  I’ve removed the pictures from the catalog and added them back with no change.  They look fine in the Editor.  The pictures also look fine in all Windows tumbnails.
The following instructions are copied from the TechNotes.  I’ve made two comments in Red where I was a little unsure since my Registry after install of version 8 does not exactly match these version 5&6 notes.
Some instructions I found on your website
To override the maximum image size limit for the Organizer:
    Exit the Organizer.
    Choose Start > Run.
Type regedit in the Open field and click OK.
In the left pane, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ADOBE\Photoshop Elements\5.0 for Photoshop Elements 5.0 and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ADOBE\Photoshop Elements\6.0 for Photoshop Elements 6.0.  Notice that my Adobe is not under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE it is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Highlight the Organizer folder in the left pane.
I’ve noticed that I have two “Organizer” folders under the Adobe registry.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe/Elements Organizer/8.0
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/8.0/Organizer
Thus far, I’ve only tried this DWORD in the second option.
Choose Edit > New > DWORD Value, and name the new value MaxImageSize.
Highlight the MaxImageSize DWORD and choose Edit > Modify.
Change the Base option to Decimal.
In the Value Data field, enter the new maximum size for an image in pixels. For example, if you want to change the limit to 24 megapixels, then enter 25165824. (To determine a megapixel value in pixels, multiply the value by 1024 x 1024.) If there is a specific image size you are trying to import, then use the this forumula: width x height x 1024 x 1024.
    Click OK.
    Exit the registry.
Start the Organizer. If you had previously imported images that were over the limit, then delete them from the catalog and re-import them to display the thumbnail.
    Thanks,  Tom

    Hi Tom,
I'm having the sampe problem.  Did you ever resolve this issue?

  • Cannot start Photoshop Elements 8 - scratch file error

Admittedly, I posted this in the wrong forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3020052#3020052.  Also, I resolved my issue, but I'm posting this because it's apparent other are having the same issue and maybe this will help them.
When attempting to launch Photoshop Elements 8 on a brand new, core I7 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, I got an error message that PSe was unable to create a scratch file due to insufficient permissions.  I've seen others having this issue, and here is what I have tried:
    1.  Use Disk Utility - repair permissions -- no change
    2.  Allow my account, which is an administrator to read/write to root drive (manually changed permissions).  No change.
    3.  Started PSe while holding Option Command and attempted to change scratch file location from "Start" to "Macintosh HD" - no change.
    4.  Multiple uninstalls, manually deleted plist/prefs followed by reinstalls - no change
I read all the posts I could find on this topic and advice I received was:
"2) Check your disk/folder permissions -- because they are messed up, as previously discussed in this topic (even though it's about Windows)."
This did not resolve the issue.  I think this is a PSe bug that should be filed/fixed.  As I said, this is a brand new machine and fresh install.
What did work for me after trying the above:  Plugged in a FAT32-formatted Western Digital USB external drive and started PSe.  PSe was able to start and I've been able to use app.
Again, I think this is a PSe bug.
    -Randy

Ahh, a point I failed to see Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preference file? Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

  • Changing default refresh time for the UWL.

    Hello,
I am trying to change the Default refresh time for the UWL(workflow inbox) for all the users before they personalize or save the refresh time, Would changing the refresh time in the .xml file work or is there any other way to do it? Thanks,
    Aniketh R.

We have had all sorts of issues with this as well. I have been unable to find a solution that works as of yet. From my own debugging it seems as if RP is trying to parse the pasted text as logo's, fields etc.... I am looking at potentially using a script w/ set interval to "clean" the clipboard data but this isn't a perfect solution for numerous reasons.
What is happening to your letters when the users paste? Our letters actually become unusable after a plugin save. So I am actually very interested in the answer to this question!
