Photoshop Elements 10 colored image became greyscale

I had edited an image in a layer.  It is a full color image.  When I  dragged & droped it into a totally different photo, suddenly it appeared in greyscale.  The original image in its original layer is still full color. This has never happened to me before.  What went wrong, & how can I fix it?

From the menu choose:
Image >> Mode >> RGB Color

  • Photoshop elements 6 raw image problems.

PROBLEM 1:  I recently purchased a Canon 7D and got a free copy of PSE6, and I had to upgrade to camera raw 5.6 to view raw files.  I am now able to view raw files, but still get a error; "DLL c:\Programfiles\adobe\photoshop elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\Camera_raw_5_6\win64\camera raw .8bi is not a valid windows image. Please check against your installation diskette."  I'm not sure what's going on does anyone have any advice?
PROBLEM 2:  I took some raw pictures in B&W and when I view them in PSE6 they come out in color.  I'm not sure what the problem is any advice?  Is this problem related to problem 1?

The jpeg has been processed as a B&W shot already in the camera. The raw file is the raw data--the three color channels, unprocessed. Third party converters, like ACR will ignore any conversion settings you made in camera. Only the manufacturer's software can read those.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Slideshow Image Orientation

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me please? My OS is WIndows 7 Premium and I am using Photoshop Elements and Premier 10.
I have created a slideshow in Photoshop Elements and saved this to DVD (PAL as I am in the UK). All images are the correct orientation and display correctly when on my PC. However, once saved on DVD and played through my DVD player to the TV there are a number of images being displayed in the incorrect orientation.
Does anyone know how to correct this please?
    Thanks.

    Hi everyone,
I agree with suspicion that Premiere Elements is probably making the mistake of displaying the photos incorrectly.   However, I suspect that avoiding the problem by actions in the Organizer may be the most practical alternative.
Ken, can you help with some details ?
1 - I am not at a computer where I can verify this statement -- but I think that in earlier versions of the Organizer, there is an Organizer Preference which controls how the photo is rotated (by orientation indicator only) or by actually rotating the photo. And by orientation indicator only is the default.  Does that Preference still exist in version 10 ? If yes, then I think rotating multiple photos at the same time within the Organizer would probably be a circumvention of the problem that shows on the photo orientation on the DVD.
2 -- My expereince and what I have seen reported on these forums is that the Elements Organizer does recognize an Orientation indicator which has been set in a photo file by the camera. So portrait mode photos which come from the camera with this Orientation indicator usually (maybe always) display correctly within the organizer.
Therefore since this thread says "All images are the correct orientation and display correctly when on my PC", I suspect that the person originating this thread did not make any orientation correction.
3-- The type of approach that I believe some people have successfully used, is to first set the Organizer preference to actually rotate the photo file: then do
-- one rotate if necessary to have the photo display correctly in the Organizer
-- if the portrait photo initially looked OK in the Organizer, then 2 rotates would be done : first would set the photo on its side (temporarily) and then the second rotate would be back in the other direction.  These actions can be done for multiple selected photos.
4-- OR as an alternative to 3 (above), if the slide show has already been constructed within the Organizer Slide Show Editor, then there are methods to initiate an edit of a specific photo file which transfers to the PSE editor and can take the action of changing orientation in the PSE editor.,
    FYi - Mt Ventoux,
Don't be discouraged by all the details I am discussing while we explore the best solution for you.

  • Script photoshop | rename for color/image

    Hello to all,
My English is terrible, but I hope you manage to understand.
I need a script to photoshop you can run at the end of an action, which indivudi the main color of an image, and based on what save the image with a specific name.
    example:
Load a picture of a red pen (on white background), the script detects the color red as the primary and save the image: file name + "-red"
if the pen was green, would save with the: file name + "-green"
if the pen was dark green, with the would save: file name + "-dark_green"
most are color variants that can distinguer, the better.
    please let help me.

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer disappearing image puzzle

In Organizer, created a couple of folders and added some images to them, one with 3 images and one that started off with seven (but is now down to six, for which see below).
Being new to Elements, I tested Auto Smart Fix, Auto Color and Auto Levels with one of the images, with the result that that image has now disapperaed from its folder, but worse still, I am unable to get it back via File | "Get Photos and Videos" | "From Files and Folder" being told, "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this catalogue."
The assertion that the image is not a supported file tile is proven to be wrong, when I change the name of the image by just one letter and am then able to import the image. Now this does not really help, as I can't obviously have images disappear.
My question now is, where did the first image go to, and why am I being told that it is already in this catalogue? Many thanks in advance.

Once you import more images to Organizer only the most recently imported files are shown on the Photo Well. Click on the Show All button to see all the files in the catalog.
Also, when you delete any files from the catalog please ensure that the option for "Also delete selected item(s) from the hard disk" is unchecked otherwise your images will be deleted from your hard disk as well

  • Does Photoshop elements process HDR images...or ...?

I am using Light room (LR), and have watched the instructional videos for processing HDR images in LR, using Photoshop (PS).  I have only PS Elements on my system presently. LR lets me select multiple images for HDR in LR, and input the LR commands to process images for HDR using PS. The PS Elements window appears. The little cursor wheel spins, and spins, then .... nothing happens. Do I need the full PS CC suite to process HDR? Do I need to buy a subscription (that I don't want) to the CC system and get the full blown PS software? Has Adobe  now got me by the balls... ?

PSE does not do true HDR. It will do a "kind-of HDR" by merging photos with different exposures (Photomerge-Exposure), but only in 8 bits. The result (also in 8 bits) cannot possibly be HDR because 8 bits can't contain even the DR your camera can capture in a single exposure, much less extend it to HDR. The advantage in using LR in the HDR process is that it can edit (map) the 32 bit HDR tiff produced by PSCS (and other HDR programs) when working from 16 bit images. However, if you do want to do Photomerge, send the images to PSE in the usual way, select them all in the Photo Bin and then initiate Photomerge-Exposure.

  • Photoshop ELEMENTS 10  COLOR Handling

Does the new version of Elements 10 handle 8 bit color per channel ie 24 bit color as in Elements 8.
Or, does it now handle 16 bit per channel (48 bit color) as is PS CS5 does?  particulary in the Healing brush and other editiing tools?
I do understand that PSE 8 handles 16 bit color in some tools but not all.  It does not work with healing brush as an example.  I use this tool the most  repairing old scanned in negatives.
Also, msost scanners and digital cameras P&S and DSLRs now use 12 bit/Channel (36Bit)  or higher color. So it would be nice to have PSE 10 handle this level.

    Same as PSE8 & 9 ( i.e.limited editing for 16 bit files)

  • ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 7 Color Curves Tool problum

When I click on the color curves tool it locks up at the top of the screen and almost fills the whole screen. There is no place at the top to grab it and pull it down because the top of it is hidden above the screen. Also it only shows thumbnail size pictures that can not be enlarged. I increased my screen resolution to 1280x800 and Photoshop decreases in size and the color curves tool decreases but the name of the tool and the close button at the top are still hidden and the color curves tool screen still can not be moved... Is this something I can fix or is this a software problem? I downloaded this trial version then upgraded it to a full version. I am using Windows Vista on a Sony Vaio laptop. William in Michigan.

  • PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 3--EDITED IMAGES NOT VIEWABLE--WHY ???

Recently had computer "serviced" and within 24 hours I realised when I edited any images and saved them all I got was a jagged image of nothing.Computer service people told me it was nothing to do with service or Windows, to uninstall/reinstall Adobe photoshop 3.0 but despite trying everything no luck. All goes fine until I save the edited image .Any help much appreciated.

I have no idea what to do but I think you need to give more details for someone to help you.
What is a "jagged image of nothing?" You can upload a screenshot to pixentral.com and put a link to it in your post.
Are you talking about the thumbnail view in the Organizer photo well?
Can you view the images in other programs (windows picture viewer?)
What are you saving as: psd, jpg, tiff, etc?
Can you open the image in editor?
Are you windows xp or vista?
When things that used to work stop working two first steps to try are file>catalog>recover and deleting the preferences.

  • Photoshop Elements 7.0 Image and canvas resizing

I've scanned and saved a paw print from my dog with the purpose of shrinking it to be able to make a stamp. But everytime I resize the image to 1.5 cm and the canvas size to 4 cms more (5.5 cm) when I come to print it (luckily havent printed on expensive special paper yet) the settings change and it comes out bigger?? I'm very confused, not much of a computer geek can anyone give me an idiots guide?

    I don't understand your post.
The scan of the paw is "resized" to 1.5 cm. That's one dimension. What is the other?
Then, you state that the canvas is 4.0 cm," more (5.5 cm)", whatever that means.
Are you placing the paw scan on to the canvas?
What is the resolution of the the scan, and what is the resolution of the canvas?
Ultimately, what are you trying to do? What kind of stamp?

  • Does Photoshop Elements 12 have image mapping capabilities?

I am curious as to whether on not you can image map in pse 12.

Depending on where you bought it you may be able to return it for a full refund within thirty days. Certainly if you got it from Adobe you can return it no reason required (within thirty days).
Not quite sure why you think it is shabby though. Surely you must have realised that there would be differences between a $700 product and a $100 one.

  • Printing with HP B9180 and Photoshop Elements 8 and Color Management

I've got a bit of confusion about certain settings in the printing process and I've posted a rather long discussion of my 'issues' and confusion.  I hope someone can give me some guidance here.  I've seen a lot of these issues addressed in many places but I can't seem to find an integrated response.  Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and respond.
    Color Management Questions
My problems started when I was getting pictures that were too dark from my HP 9180 printer after having gotten very nice prints for a long time.  I had obviously started to do something differently inadvertently.  The only thing I think that is different is that I got a new 23 inch monitor, which does produce much brighter on-screen images.  So, I started to do some research and know just enough about color management to be slightly confused and have some questions that I hope someone can give me some help with.
    Equipment Background
I use both a Canon 20D and a Canon PowerShot SD600 camera. Both have the default color space as sRGB, although the 20D can be also set as RGB.
I also use Photoshop Elements 8, where there are a variety of settings possible for printing.
My monitor is an HP S2331, whose color space is sRGB and cannot be reset to RGB (I think) except for temperature; the default is 6500K.
My printer is an HP Photosmart Pro B9180 Printer, where there are also a variety of settings possible.
    I’m running XP-Pro.
    Here’s Where I Get Confused
Everything I have read about color management (various web sites, forums, books, etc) says to have the image, monitor, and printer all in the same color space.
Everything I read about PSE 8 (same sources) says to set PSE 8 to ‘Always Optimize for Printing’ under Edit>Color Settings in order to get the best prints.  This displays photos based on the Adobe RGB color space.
I am taking pictures in sRGB, and telling PSE 8 to process them in RGB by selecting ‘Always Optimize for Printing’.  Is this something I should be concerned about?  Should I reset my camera for RGB?
Further, by selecting ‘Always Optimize for Printing’, I am setting PSE 8 for RGB while my monitor displays sRGB.  Is this an important issue or is it also much ado about technicalities that an amateur should not worry about?  It does violate the ‘keep them in the same color space’ rule.
Next, when I go to File>Print and get the Print window and then do the Page Setup and Select Printer, I then go to More Options in the lower left of the window.  Under the More Options window, I select Color management and select Photoshop Elements Manages Colors.  Next, there is Image Space, which is fixed and not subject to selection from a drop down menu.
I understand that this is the image space of the image I took with my camera and that information is embedded in the image.  Correct?
Next, there is Printer Profile.  But, from what I have read, this is where the IEC profile of the paper being printed on is supposed to be selected, isn’t it?
Shouldn’t this more appropriately be called Paper Profile, or Printing Media Profile?  Further, this drop down menu appears to be somewhat erratic, sometimes showing all of the paper profiles I believe are loaded, sometimes not. It also shows listings such as Working RGB-Adobe RGB (1988), Adobe RGB 1988, Dot Gain 10%, 15%.... along with a lot of paper profiles.  Aren’t those profiles unnecessary here?
I’ve used both Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual Rendering and am happy with either one.
Next, when I go to Printer Preferences, in order to “…disable color management in the printer preferences dialog”, under the Color Tab, I select Application Managed Colors from the Color management drop down menu, and also have the option of selecting ColorSmart/sRGB and Adobe RGB (1988).
Is there any time when I should use either ColorSmart/sRGB or Adobe RGB  (1988)?  If I were staying with my camera’s sRGB setting, given the fact that the monitor is sRGB, would the appropriate selections be ‘Printer Manages Colors’ and ‘ColorSmart/sRGB’?
Finally, under the Features Tab, I go to look for the same paper I selected under Printer Profile (Question 4 above).  If it is one of the pre-loaded (by HP) profiles, it is there, but if it is a profile I downloaded, say for an Ilford paper, it isn’t listed, and I need to guess at an equivalent type of paper to select.
Is there any way to get that listing to appear under the Paper Type drop down menu?
I know that this is a long post, but it helped me to clarify my ‘issues’.  Thank you for any and all suggestions, answers, guidance and help.

    RIK,
Some printers have long names, esp. HP printers, and PSE gets ":confused." In control panel>devices and printers, right click on the default printer, go to printer properties, and rename the default printer to something short, e.g. "Our Printer." That may fix it..

  • Edit images in Adobe Photoshop Elements

I am helping a student who is running iPhoto on Maverick.  He wants to edit his images in Photoshop Elements.  We set his preferences to do this but when he selects an image and clicks on Edit, all he gets is the welcome page of Photoshop Elements.  The image doesn't open in Elements.  What could we be doing wrong?
    Mary Lou

Previous versions would install a folder with the file you want, Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor.app, buried one layer down in another folder named Support Files.  That's the one you want to select from iPhoto.
I don't know if the layout of the installed files is the same with the newest version. However, the following may be of help:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.
