Photoshop Elements 11 catalog issues

I have upgraded to Elements 11 from Elements 10.  The catalog conversion however did not go well.  On Elements 11 the left side shows my Albums but then it has my folders from the computer instead of categories and keywords.  None of the photos are tagged.  I looked at Elements 10 which i left on my computer and it is correct.  I uninstalled and reinstalled 11, but the same problem.  I had mad a backup 2 days ago on an external hard drive so i used the restore feature and it saidit was successful, though 2 files did not convert apparently, but still have just the folders from my pictures on the left.
So my question is how can i repair this.

Folders and Albums should show up on the left. On the right is where you'll have Keyword Tags and their Categories. Click the Tags/Info button in the very bottom right hand corner to make the panel appear, then make sure the Tags tab at the top is selected.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 catalog conversion solution

The Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer failed to convert my Photoshop Elements 6 catalog until I ran the PSE11 Organizer under the built-in Windows 7 Administrator account. I did not find this solution mentioned during my efforts to solve this installation problem. It was not a suggestion I found in Adobe's help files dealing with catalog conversion. So here is a summary for others with this problem.
I installed Photoshop Elements 11 on my Dell XPS 9000 running Windows 7 Pro x64. I retained my PSE6 installation. I have nearly 20,000 cataloged images in my PSE6 catalog.
Problems began when the PSE11 Organizer failed to convert my PSE6 catalog to the new PSE11 format. The process seemed to run to completion, but then an error message said the conversion had failed. The suggestion was to repair and optimize the PSE6 catalog using PSE6, then try converting again. Conversion to PSE11 still failed. I spent a few hours searching for suggestions and solutions and tried each of them without success.
I then found one suggestion that the problem might involve permissions. The suggestion was to right click PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe in its installation folder (which on my computer is at at D:\Photo\Elements 11 Organizer) and run Organizer as an administrator. This also failed. However it did get me thinking about permissions.
Even though my personal account on my computer is an administrator account, I logged off my personal account and logged on to my computer's built-in Administrator account that comes with Windows 7. I don't think I've used that account for any other purpose since I set up this computer 3 years ago.
I then ran the PSE11 Elements Organizer using the Administrator account and the catalog conversion ran to completion and all seemed correct.
However, when I went to the folder where I kept my PSE6 catalog (G:\0-PSElementsCatalog\FamilyPhotos-6), the new PSE11 catalog was not there. Instead, PSE11 had put the converted catalog in the (absolutely awful) default location at C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\FamilyPhotos-6). Using the PSE11 Organizer, I renamed the catalog to G:\0-PSElementsCatalog\FamilyPhotos-11(ConvertedFrom6). I then used PSE11 Organizer to move the converted catalog to my preferred location on my G: drive.
    All is now well.
Why did I have to use the built-in Administrator account to do the catalog conversion? What permissions does it have that my personal account (also an Administrator) does not have? Some years ago I encountered a similar problem that involved permissions on a registry key, not permissions on files or folders. Perhaps someone at Adobe can enlighten us.

    One thing puzzles me:

I don't understand why running the exe from the installation folder would have worked.
I would have simply tried to run that exe from its real location :
Sorry, I can't help you more about permissions...

Very important : your catalog does not contain your pictures. They are where you have imported them in your computer. If they are all under a master folder like 'My Pictures' or 'Pictures', you should set your backup software to backup those folders.
The catalog itself is mainly a database keeping all the information about your pictures : location, keywords, ratings, albums...
It's a folder containing the dababase and several other components. You find its location looking in the help section, system info.
The integrated backup / restore process in Elements saves both your media files and the catalog.

  • I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog, or is Elements 5 too old to read?

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog including all of the tags, captions, etc, or is Elements 5 too old for Lightroom 5 to read/convert?  What's the best way to migrate?  (My catalog has over 100k images in it.)

Adobe changed the catalog software from PSE6 onwards to the SQLite database – as used in Lightroom.
Earlier versions of PSE including PSE5 used a Microsoft Access database, stored in a file called [Catalog Name].psa.
If you have already embedded keywords and captions by writing file info into the images they should be readable even if catalog conversion fails. Lightroom does have the ability to import a PSE catalog but in view of the age of PSE5 I would recommend downloading the 30 day free trial of LR5.6 and then you can judge the level of success of catalog conversion.

At the moment, you cannot upgrade a PSE13 catalog to Lightroom. Perhaps when Lightroom 5.7 is released, this will be possible (and perhaps not)

    See that note:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/common-catalog-issues-upgrade-elements.html
As a matter of fact, if you do install PSE11 in the same computer as PSE4, you can convert the PSE4 catalog to the new version, and the new catalog will recognize your media files. See the limitations of the conversion for some types of creations in the above link.
The other way suggested by Preran (that is to do a full backup from PSE4 and a restore from PSE11) is a good way ; it is  necessary if you are migrating to another computer or OS.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 Slideshow Issues

    Photoshop Elements 6 Core Version: 6.0 (20070910.r.377499)
    Issues:
    Ordering Slide Shows
They will not order in File Name order -- Must I do it manually? -- which is silly for a computer
    Slide Show Photo Background
File name picked up as title/description  which is perfect --
But cannot get a bigger background then picture
This means the title covers picture and / or does not show up well.
Ideally I would like a larger canvas on the bottom of the picture so the text can show up against black or some other color without covering the photo.
This should be easy with canvas size but I cannot get it to work in a slide show.
Should also be able to change text color
Do not mind buying an upgrade but want to make sure these issues can be solved
See these issues in boards but cannot find solutions.
    Thanks

the problem seems to be with the mp3,could please specify the size of the audio file which you were using  and please try an audio file with a smaller size.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor Issue

Have downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor from the Mac App Store onto my Mac Book Pro, set iPhoto preferences to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor, but when trying to open a file from my iPhoto library, the following message appears: "unable to complete your request because of a program error". What can I do to resolve this issue?

Are you able to edit an image file that's not in the iPhoto library with PSE 10?
Also the followinjg has some tips on configuring PSE for use inside iPhoto that you may or may not know about:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9/10 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • All photos duplicated after restoring Photoshop Elements 11 catalog

I recently had my computer reformatted and notice that following Photoshop Elements reinstall and catalog restore all my photos have been duplicated in the Adobe/digital photos folder. I have read that this is due to my computer tech restoring all photos in the original folder structure prior to me executing the catalog restore (I should have done my research first). My question is what can I do now to eliminate the duplicates? Do I delete all photos and the Adobe folders or is there an alternative?

    Al Markunas wrote:
The duplicates are in the same folder tree structure and, yes, the restore renamed them with a -1 suffix. The pictures with the -1 suffix are the ones I see in the Organizer.
There is no 'smart' way to get rid of the files previously copied on your drive, but I would use the ability of the the Organizer to move folder trees on your drive.
First I would create a new master folder outside of the old tree structure.
Then I would work in 'Pictures' view in the left panel of PSE11.
I would select a branch of the folder tree as a test, and drag and drop it to the new folder. Tip : there must be at least a file in that master folder to make it appear in the left panel. Then, from the Windows explorer, I would check that only the previously copied media files are showing in the moved branch... and delete the branch altogether in the Explorer.
Once you  master the process, you can either move all your remaining folder tree from the Organizer, and delete the remaining duplicates from the Explorer or you can move branches separately.
Be patient! Moving files requires time and you should not abort the move operation to avoid creating more duplicates.
The main penalty of your situation is the renaming of your files with a suffix, but that does not prevent you to use 100% of the Organizer features.

  • Problem in saving Photoshop Elements 10 Catalog

    Hello
I am a Photoshop Elements 10 user since a few years, and I have never been able to save (backup) the Organizer catalog to an external disk of DVD.
Everytime I try, it is calculating the necessary space, and stops at 57%, then nothing, no progress. The application is not hanged, I can still close the message Window etc.  But impossible to backup the catalog.  This is like this from the start, and otherwise the catalog seems to work fine.
Now that I have over 20,000 picture in the catalog and spent a lot of time to tag, name, etc. I am a bit worried by the lack of a backup somewhere.
Any idea how to fix that (preferably with this version (10) of Elements)?
Do you think that would work better if I installed Lightroom and imported the catalog there? But I understand I would lose face recognition/tagging which is quite handy...
    Thank you!

    Hello,
any hint on this? It's a problem not to be able to do this backup, given all the time I spent to create, tag etc. my pictures...
    Thanks!

  • Photoshop Elements 10 installation issues

I had Elements 9 and just purchased elements 10. I tried to install it and have had not luck. I have called the help desk several times with no luck. I also have Lightroom and use to be able to right click on a picture and edit it in Photoshop elements 9, now it says it will be edited in elements 10, but it does not do anything. I can't figure out how to get it back the way it was. I have tried to uplaod the trial version, the software from the CD I bought, but nothing seems to work. anyone have any suggestions for this?

For such a complex issue it might be best to continue to work with our support team as they can work with you on an individual basis to resolve your difficulties.  If you would like we do have a support document, "Troubleshoot installation problems | Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements | Windows" with steps you can certainly use.
Alternately you can also review your install log files to try to determine the exact error which is causing your difficulties.  "Troubleshoot install using logs | Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements," details how to review the logs which are created when your computer installs Photoshop Elements 10.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 download issue

Files on the download site for Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 are not complete. The installation errors out. Should be 1.6GB but only 1.13 GB downloads. I have tried it several times

Thank you very much, Pat, for your great help.   The link has inspired me to download the trial version from the Adobe website and go from there:
"Adobe Download Assistant" was automatically downloaded before the download of the trial version began.  With the "Adobe Download Assistant" up and running, the download of the trial version took within 30 minutes.  I then got to enter the serial code of my already purchased PSE 12 right after installation of the trial version and completed the whole set-up process (without even opening or using the trial version at all).
It is rather counter-intuitive that one should start with a trial download even when he has gone straight into buying the product.  It was as if the trial version was a bridge to facilitate the official download because the trial version provided the "Adobe Download Assistant".  Maybe, it is expected that people would always take a trial before buying?  Or maybe, it is expected that most people would already have the "Adobe Download Assistant" handy?
Anyway, I am glad there is a solution.  In this case, I think the key is to get the "Adobe Download Assistant" which comes with the trial version.  Hope this post will help others who might face the same issue too.
    Many thanks again.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 Catalogs Not Where They Should Be?

    My first post. Greetings all!
Using PSE7 to 'catalog' my pictures. Have about 400 gig worth. I use drive c for my apps and data and all my pictures are on a different internal hd. Back them up every 3 mo or so onto external drives. But...........
I've added some since last backup and my drive c took a dump!. Drive still works but can't boot up. So my pictures are intact on the other internal hd.
I removed the bad hd (with elements & my catalogs (4)), put in a new drive c hd and reinstalled the os (Vista 64bit) and most of my apps including PSE7.
I bought an external hd enclosure and put the bad hd into it in hopes of recovering my catalog data. After searching and reviewing numerous threads on forums, I gleemed that my catalog files should be in
    C:\Useres\me\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\sub
I've checked all the users (me, Default, Public) on the old but there are no catalogs (catalog.pse7db) or any other .pse7db files there.
So I did an 'advanced search' on the bad hd for ".pse7db" and found one called catalog.pse7db in
    root\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\My Catalog
but that file is the exact same file size as the one created this a.m. when I reinstalled PSE7 with an empty 'My Catalog'.
So I renamed the new catalog file to.old and copied the catalog.pse7db from the old hd to the same place it was on the old hd to the new hd. Fired up Elements 7, selected 'Catalogs' for the File menu, but my old catalogs weren't there. So I put everything back to the default state (file-wise)
    My original catalogs were named:
    Dave & Debi's Collection
    RAW Files
    Business
    Clip Art
Are all my original catalogs condensed into on master catalog file somewhere?
Anybody have any ideas of where my old catalogs are on this bad HD?
    Thank you
    toots101

Thanks for the reply. I did another advanced search including non-indexed, hidden, and system files on the sub-dir ProgramData on the bad drive and it only found the same catalog.pse7db as it did before.
It is the same filesize as the new one with no files cataloged in it.
Again are all four of my catalogs condensed into one catalog file by default?
    Any other help guys?
