Photoshop Elements 11 interface

First off I would like to say I'm new here! and finding this forum very hard to use? cannot even paste text why?
anyway here is my question/ observation
I have just downloaded the new version of Photoshop Elements 11  (I've been useing sinnce version 6)
I cannot begin to discribe how dissapointed I was to see the UI, to me it looks and feels like a peice of software from about ten years ago with the large icons everywhere, or at the very least a very cheap copy of Photoshop elements.
I uninstalled it after about a hour, I didnt like it at all! so as far as Elements goes i will be sticking to Elements 9, I will be going back to Paintshop Photo pro from Corel if this is the best effort Adobe has to offer!
I realy cannot understand why Adobe has employed a 10 year old to design the look of the UI
Is there a setting to change the UI to a adult theme like before???
Or is this the new theme for the full blown Photoshop as well if so they will have a lot of very unhappy people!

Thanks for the reply what I mean by Adult theme is this new one looks so similar to all the free programs my Granddaughter uses online! Large icons and bland looks.like Kolourpaint, Inkscape and the like.
I'm not sure what this Guided tab is for? if I open this I have nothing to choose apart from magnifying glass and a hand top left  next to that is Before and after choice top right is a Create tab with nothing in it, bottom left 1.1 fit screen, fill screen, print screen (tool options) below that is Photo bin, Tool options, undo, redo, rotate, Organize, that's it apart from fit two of the same image on the screen it look like a waste of space? or is this not included in the trial version??
I don't know what this "create tab is for? nothing in this on any of the three tabs Quick, Guided, Expert? or is this not in the trial version either??
Yes Im aware that colour is a personal preference, and so is style choice? this is why I think so many Elements users including myself will be of to pastures new?
As far as there were at least as many people who complained about the dark interface being too hard to see, not so hard to solve, add a choice of skin colours?

Take a tour of the new, modern interface in Photoshop Elements 11. See the three-column design of the updated Organizer, learn about the options in the Task bar, and see how you can easily view subsets of photos by People, Places, Events, and even Media. Also check out new Quick, Guided, and Expert editing modes, which enable you to edit photos the way that works best for you.

While I like some of the thinking behind the new interface, it looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old child who was only allowed to have thick crayons. I HATE the way that I cannot enlarge the layers panel in the main editor*, the way the tool icons are double stacked on the left and the midtone gray background. For those reasons alone I will continue to use Elements 9, even though I have paid good money for 11.
except by clicking layers icon in the bottom tool bar, which erases all the other tool windows you had open, so you have to use the window drop down menu to get them back.
    Frankly, it's crap.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Interface

I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 with Windows 8 and downloaded the adobe photoshop elements 12.  However, the user interface such as the menu text and icons are VERY tiny!!! How can I adjust?

Thanks for your question.  It confirms for me that I'll not upgrade to 12--I'm dealing with the same issue with Photoshop Elements 11.
I, too, have a Yoga 2 Pro (standard resolution of 3200 x 1800).  Hopefully Adobe will sometime realize that there are high resolution graphics cards out there that require dynamic font sizing in the menus.
    In the meantime:
        Click on the Intel HD Graphics icon in the tasktray;
        Click "Display";
        Under "Resolution" use the pulldown and set it to 1920 x 1080;
        Click "Apply."
This will give you readable menus.

  • Does Photoshop Elements work with Windows 8 Touchscreen

Hi I'm able t use parts of the touchscreen for example, selecting a tool. But, when I try to say use the crop tool I cannot use my finger to expand or contract the crop tool.

Photoshop Elements only specifically works with touchscreens when it comes to gestures (moving your finger(s) in a specific motion to get a special behavior). Otherwise, the touch screen should act exactly like a mouse. My guess here is that this is simply a question of precision. If you try to "click" and drag a corner of the crop interface, does the crop rectangle move or rotate instead of change size?

  • Batch Editing with Photoshop Elements 4.0

I have an folder of photos which I would like to resize as a batch with Photoshop Elements 4.0. However, I am at a loss as to how to do it and am missing a step or two in my workflow.
I would appreciate any specific step by step suggestion that you may have.
    Thanks for your help.
    Vernon

    not for "batch editing"
You can set PSE as the external editor in the iPhoto preferences. iPhoto has the capability to directly interface with any external editor - simply go to the iPhoto preferences (iPhoto menu ==> preferences ==> General and set the Edit photo option to in external editor - select the desired external editor and you are set - now when you edit photos they are sent to the selected external editor and when you are finished editing you save (not save as) and the edited photo is returned to iPhoto, the original is maintained in iPhoto and the iPhoto database is correctly updated.
If you want the option of editing in either iPhoto or the external editor after selecting your external editor simply set the edit in back to main window - now when you right click (control Click) on a photo you will get a menu which allows you to select either.

  • Lightroom versus PhotoShop Elements Organizer and Bridge

This is directed to the Adobe Developer Team
I hope someone of the Developer team is reading this!!
For my understanding the three products out of one house (PhotoShop Elements Organizer, Bridge and Lightroom) doing about the same, should ...
work the same (same idea, same behaviour, organizing by path/subfolders instead of cataloges etc.)
maintain the same database and files (LR should recognize the collections from BR and Vice Versa, use the same cache files etc.) and should
be compatible to each other (e.g. Tags, Collections etc)
    Actually I suggest ADOBE
to eliminate Organizer and integrate the good functions into BRIDGE (e.g. albums, upload to flickr, webpage generation etc)
give BRIDGE as the free of charge picture organizer to PS Elements and to PS CS
change LIGHTROOM into an payable upgrade of BRIDGE with enhanced functionality of the free of charge BRIDGE, (which can work as a stand-alone software as it does today
better integration of PSE, PS CS into Bridge/Lightroom (e.g. Panaorama function opens only PS CS but the version of PSE works much better, so I want to choose in the menu of Bridge/Lightroom)
I am really struggling with the three of them.
Beside that I suggest to get rid of the Catalog idea of Lightroom with it's import/export and synchronization needs and instead use or at least integrate the idea of BRIDGE to get pictures structured and organized by path and subfolders, as this is anyhow how the way pictures are stored already for most of us... I asume. I doubt that anybody just throw all files into one big subdirectory and get the organized into cataloges. But please keep collections as they are helpful to quickly collect some pictures to commonly work on them. by drag & drop. The Catalogues of LR drives me crazy but LR have a lot of nice functions (e.g. Webupload interfaces to flickr and others, nice noice reduction, nice albums and webpage functions, etc.)
    Thanks
Merry X-Mas and a Happy New Year
    Georg
PS: Please all of you comment your experience and opinion on this matter ... I am interested what you think about it.

    Hi George,
Whereas Bridge and Photoshop Elements (and most non-LR users) base their organisation on the file / folder structure, Lightroom uses files / folders simply for storage - the catalog is used for organisation. This 'catalog based approach' provides far more flexibility, both in organisation, and in recording a complete, fully-reversible record of all edits made to each photograph.
    To suggest that Adobe "get rid of the Catalog idea of Lightroom" and "get pictures structured and organized by path and subfolders" would remove almost ALL advantages Lightroom has over Bridge & PS Elements combined. To fully appreciate Lightroom, you need to appreciate that files and folders are not the only way to organise photos. Why not watch a few of the Adobe Lightroom Tutorial videos? This link below takes you to a video explaining about the Catalog;
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/george-jardine-on-lightroom/the-lightroom-catalog/
    However, if you really want Adobe to hear your views, why not raise a Feature request with them, at this link below;
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
I'm sure if you call your feature request 'Remove Catalog from Lightroom, and organise by Folders instead', it'll get noticed, as will any forum posts of the same name...
    Cheers,
    Alan

  • Aperture or Photoshop Elements?

I am an amateur photographer and photography is a keen hobby of mine. I have recently been pondering the idea of purchasing a photo-editing package from the app store and have come across both Aperture and Photoshop elements. I enjoyed using iPhoto but it felt a little limited. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Aperture and Photoshop target different needs - if you are a serious photographer you should get them both, see         Re: how to combine breketed photos in one like in photoshop
    Aperture serves two purposes:
It is an excellent tool to manage and organize huge photo libraries for fast retrieval, tagging, geocoding, and efficient storage of different versions of the same photo.
And it has excellent image processing tools to develope high resolution photos (raw, tiff, jpeg) into a rendered version and to adjust the photo (noise reduction, contrast, retouche, white balance and color color correction, sharpening, ...).
But Aperture deals only with image files taken with a digital camera, not with graphics. It does not support transparency for example. For this the program offers an interface to use plug-ins or external editors, like Photoshop or the free Gimp.
Photoshop is a graphics compositing program; it offers basic image processing tools, but you can use it to add graphics annotations to your image or two combine parts of different images - it is great to work with transparency, layers, arbitrary shaped selections.
I use Aperture do organize my photos - my Aperture library now includes all images I own, reaching back to 1910, the including the first photos my greatgrandparents have taken. Developing the raw images or adjusting jpegs Aperture is very intuitive and easy to do. And if I need to do compositing I use a plug-in or Photoshop.
You may want to have a look at Gimp. It can do similar things as Photoshop, but is free. Also, have a look at the Aperture tutorials on the Aperture Support page: Aperture Support

  • Cs5 and Photoshop Elements 9

I know this is a silly question.  But how come Photoshop 9 has a nice black modern interface.  And CS5 has a boring plain gray interface?   And I know people would say CS5 is professional and 9 is for the novice crowd.  But still I there should be a choice.  And I know I said it before but Photoshop Elements 7 has the best interface of all of them.  Elements 9 interface looks crowded now.  They must of made the fonts bigger.  Or the layout.  Not much room for creating.  That's just my opinion.  I know everybody likes the dull gray CS5.  But for $600.00 there should be 2 versions.  Black or gray.

    Thank you Barbara B.,
Do you know if there is a basic reference somewhere on adobe for performing tasks on both pieces of software?  Thanks to you I know how to replace the teeth whitening function, but what about for instance the "slimming" tool, or the eye lash darkening tool etc?  I know I can google each tool I am sure.  But is there a single "bible" like reference for the various commands or tool functions shared between the two?  Are there any books you recommend etc?
    Thank you for your time,
    J

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 Serial Number Issue

I downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 (after checking the system requirements) but the serial numbers Adobe gave me are for that software but for version 13 which will not work on the iMac OS I have (Needs 10.8 and above).  I need to get the correct serial numbers but Adobe chat says it isn't possible and have to use 13. Am I stuck with Version 13?

I would look for some means of contacting someone relative to the Education Exchange.  I have no familiarity with it myself so I can't direct you anywhere, but maybe they have their own contact links or forum for discussion.
Do you have some problem with using version 13 or is it just that you acquired the files thru interface you show?  If you have serial numners for 13 and your machine can handle it, go for getting it...
    PSE 13 Trial - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elements
    PE 13 Trial - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=premiere_elements
The serial numbers will (should) convert the trials to full use.

  • Tags in Photoshop Elements 11

I just converted to Photoshop Elements 11 and have all my picture file organized using Tags, which has worked very well in previous version of PE.
Everything converted OK but the way PE11 uses Tags is quite confusing.
First, Tags are shown on the right side, but when you click on a group another menu of the tags pop up at the top of the screen, why in 2 places??
Second, In previous version I could choose a group of different Tags and they would all show up.  In PE11 if I pick a second Tag  the picture screen gives a message "No Media To Be Displayed".
Third, To move from one Tag to another I have to go back and start over.
Is this a glitch in PE11 or am I missing something in the logic of Tags?

I am in total agreement that the old system was much better.
It depends on the profile of each user. I am quite sure the new interface was designed to please new users. That is true for the clear background, that is true for the combination of criteria. Statistics should show that the new division into views like people, events and places is quickly understood by the average user while the 'query' style combination of criteria is not.
Old users like me regret the old serious dark interface for color correction and the flexible, unobstrusive and powerful way to combine criteria in searches. There is nothing I have lost : I can still do what I was used to, but after a painful period of learning the new interface .
Let's face it : Adobe has chosen to please a wider amateur public. That helps maintening PSE in an affordable price and performance range to compete against new competitors. Advanced users still have the same power they had before. When they are no longer satisfied with the (amateur) changes, they now can convert to Lightroom (now affordable) and an older version of PSE. That's still a big change and learning curve !

  • Does the Lens Profile Creator work with Photoshop Elements 8.0..?

    Hello,
I am very new to the world of Photoshop, so please forgive if this is an obvious/stupid question...
I am using Photoshop Elements 8.0 and I have a couple of pictures that I need to remove the 'fish eye' lens distortion from around the edges...
The blurb for the Lens Profile Creator says that it is for use in the "Adobe Photoshop® family of products"...
Does this include Photoshop Elements 8.0 or do they really mean it is just for Photoshop CS5, Camera Raw and Photoshop Lightroom...
    Any help will be appreciated...
    Many Thanks
    mc1903uk

PSE does not have the user-interface to turn on lens-corrections, nor does the ACR 6.1 update for PSE contain the lens-profile database installer, so if PSE is the only member of the PS-family that you have installed then effectively you cannot apply lens profiles.
If a computer has the lens-profile database installed and lens-distortion-correction has been enabled in the XMP sidecar for a particular image, both requiring PS-CS5's ACR 6.1-updater or LR3 to be installed and one of those used to enable lens-corrections for the image, then PSE can use ACR 6.1 to apply a lens profile, because the version of the ACR 6.1 plug-in for PS and PSE is the same plug-in.
BTW, removing fish-eye distortion completely, which is what enabling lens-corrections does by default, will leave a rather poor looking image that has been completely rectilinearized but has severe stretching of the pixels at the edges, so only the center is useable.  With my 8mm Sigma fisheye, I reduce the Distortion part of the correction down to 44 so the black corners are gone, but there is still some bulging of the image.
If you want to experiment with lens-corrections, you could install the 30-day trial of LR3.

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer/Editor Hanging on Startup

When I open Photoshop Elements 10 from the start menu, it takes about 3 minutes for the first welcome screen to appear. If I select to open the editor from the welcome screen, or by right-clicking a file in Windows Explorer and selecting 'Open with...Photoshop', the program opens, the image populates on the canvas, and within a few seconds the program hangs for about 3-5 minutes (fades out, title bar says (Not Responding)). I have tried adding 127.0.0.1 etc. to the host file, removing FastCore, MMX, and a third .8BX file I can't recall at the moment, opening with administrative privileges, and changing my default printer to a dummy local printer, to no avail. Has anyone had similar problems? I suspect the issue has something to do with the 'Initializing Main Interface...' item in the C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\10.0\Organizer\log.txt taking 168,000 units (ms?) of time to execute, but I'm not sure. After renaming these folders, application should launch without crashing. For Win XP they are present at correponding location for current user.
