Photoshop Elements 11 - 'Monitor Profile Defective' Message

When opening Editor in Photoshop Elements 11, I get the warning message "The Monitor profile 'Dell S2240L Colour Profile, D65' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software".
I have recently upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and also had to download DirectPlay when opening PE 11. Before upgrading, PE11 worked fine for over a year on same desktop and monitor (both only 1 year old). Driver monitor is up to date.
Please can someone tell me the possible cause and my options. I have seen lots of posts on this and other forums but not sure which is the right answer. Could 8.1 upgrade have caused it by changing a setting or is that just coincidence? Would re-install of PE11 make any difference?
Would appreciate help as this is infuriating (also happened on my old desktop with earlier version of PE)!

PSE doesn’t like your monitor profile, for some reason. It would seem that either your monitor profile is defective or PSE11 cannot read the monitor profile, now.
Try changing it to sRGB and see if the message stops:

The instructions are for Windows 7, so instead of what the very first screenshot shows, to search for Color Management, right-click on the Win 8.1 Start button and choose Control Panel, then choose View By: Large Icons and click on Color Management.

How can I fix 'Monitor profile defective'?

Hi Guys, I really could use some help.
I have recently installed Photoshop Element 7 and on opening the editor get the dialogue ‘The monitor profile LGW2242 appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software’. It also provides the options ‘ignore profile’ or ‘use anyway’.
My Monitor is an LG Flatron W2242S (OK I know it’s not exactly top of the range but it provides a nice big work space). LG support (that’s an oxymoron) (un)helpfully tell me that this is a problem with Photoshop which must be defective and have introduced a virus!
This issue appears to addressed on the Adobe website at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328054.html However, I note this advice applies to PS and not PSE. Am I right in assuming that Adobe Gamma is not a part of PSE7? I cannot find it anywhere on my computer, nor can I find anywhere on the Adobe site where Adobe Gamma is available as a download. Does the Adobe Color Management Module (CMM) supersede Adobe Gamma and/or do the same thing? http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3618
I have been through all the community threads, all the independent stuff on the web and I cannot find a solution to this problem - hence in desperation I am posting here.
Can anyone tell me
1.       Is Elements 7 supposed to ship with or include Adobe Gamma? Adobe website says AG ships with Elements but that may refer to earlier versions.
2.       If Elements 7 does not ship with Adobe Gamma are the two products compatible? If so it MIGHT still solve the problem according to the comments made about this problem with earlier versions.
3.       If they AG and AE7 are compatible WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD A COPY OF ADOBE GAMMA?
Am I only going to be able to solve this by upgrading to CS and/or buying a higher spec monitor or is this warning something that can just be ignored without affecting outcomes?

Adobe Gamma is no longer distributed with Adobe products. It was designed to help you visually calibrate CRT displays, and didn't produce good results with flat-panel displays. Ignore the tech note you found, and don't worry about trying to install Adobe Gamma.
The "profile defective" message is most likely caused by an LG monitor profile that either doesn't conform with industry standards, or it does conform, is incompatible with PSE. When PSE starts, you can safely click "ignore profile".
Color profiles tell software the color characteristics of individual scanners, printers, and displays. So-called "color-managed" programs use those profiles to reproduce color more accurately. Most programs on Windows are not fully color-managed, including most browsers, Windows Picture And Fax Viewer on XP, and Microsoft Office. Adobe PSE and Windows Photo Gallery and Live Photo Gallery are color-managed.
Some display manufacturers ship profiles that attempt to represent the "average" of that model of display.   But your individual display may differ a fair bit from that "average". That's why people who care about faithful color will use at least an inexpensive calibrator such as the Spider or Huey.
Moving forward, since PSE isn't able to use the LG display profile, and you probably aren't using any other color-managed programs, you could disassocate the profile from the display:

You could also go to the LG web site and see if they have an updated profile.

Ignore the sign-in altogether.
You may need to turn off Sync in Organizer prefs if you have it activated.

Monitor profile defective

Have researched this and found good answers. But my question here is can you turn that pop-up message "The monitor profile "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software" on and off.
I may have checked the "don't show this message again" ??
If so...can I re-enable the the profile warning message and how ?
Or...does this pop-up only occur if there is a monitor profile issue when Photoshop starts ?

The question is what alternative you picked before you checked "don't show". The options are "use anyway" and "discard" - and in the latter case sRGB is used instead.
The Samsung profile is very likely defective (many canned profiles are), so you're better off using sRGB unless you have a wide gamut monitor.
To correct the problem permanently you buy a calibrator to make a new monitor profile. Then it's moot.
EDIT: There is a Reset All Warning Dialogs in Preferences, to answer your question.

So my monitor profile is just for the OS, and photoshop should use either sRGB or Adobe RGB, or whatever color space specific to the output destination. So, say, if I plan to edit some files for a video slide show that I'm making using ProShow Producer I should edit those files in one of the NTSC color spaces and save that profile with the files. I used to just leave them in sRGB and saw some weird color results watching those slide shows on TV. PhotoShop Elements 5.0 error messages

I have read all the problems that everyone has been having with Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, I also until ONE day ago have received the error message (Adobe Photoshop: Attempt to access invalid address). Yes, Adobe Support has reply that they no longer support this. SO I GUESS WHAT THEY ARE TELLING ME IS THAT I HAVE TO PURCHASE NOW Adobe Photoshop Elements 7............................

Photoshop Elements 5.0 error message prevents opening entire program

Have Photoshop Elements 5.0 running for years on laptop with Windows Vista. Now won't open program and gives error message: attempt to access invalid address. Same after removing program completely and reloading from original disk. How to fix and use program once again?

As Barbara says, 3.0 will not install or run on OS X 10.9.

Photoshop Elements 9 Editor error message

Photoshop Elements 9 Organizer opens OK ~ but Editor won't ~ Editor appears in the background, the message "Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program F ... This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information" and then the Editor in the background disappears.
Elements 9 was an upgrade to Elements 5 which still runs just fine.

The post described the steps I took.....see above.
Photoshop opens and operates fine. Just didn't install update. Says 'this installer is misconfigured' and to contact program author. Adobe website no help.
Like I said, I can still use the program, just wanted the critical update.

Cannot finish the installation of Purchased Photoshop Elements 12, getting error message

After downloading a payed-for Photoshop Elements 12 , I have been trying to installl it, everything seems to work until near the end, when I get an error message and the process is rolling back. Archive Part of Photoshop Elements is missing error message

My old computer died with the last Win7 update. I'm trying to reinstall my Photoshop Elements 9 on my new computer. When I try to download and run Part 2 of 2 I'm getting the error that the archive part of PS Elements is missing. Part 1 of 2 downloaded and extracted fine as far as I can tell.
