Photoshop Elements 11 only displays broken thumbnails

I recently purchased PE 11 and after installing it would not display the photo thumbnails in Organizer. Instead it only displays the broken thumbnail icon. Why is Elements presenting broken thumbnails for all of my photos and how do I fix this? Not sure if this matters but the only other Adobe product I had installed prior was Lightroom 3.6 (reaching for anything here but perhaps catalog incompatability??). Thanks for any help!

Try selecting the thumbnails (Shift+Click) or (Ctrl+A) to select all, then click on the top menu
Edit >> Update Thumbnail For Selected Items
If that doesn’t work close Elements and delete the thumbnail cache which sometime becomes corrupted. Navigate to:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\MyCatalog
Inside the MyCatalog folder (or whatever name you gave your catalog) you should find a CACHE file:
thumb.5.cache
After deleting that file restart the elements Organizer and wait whilst it regenerates thumbnails.
N.B. The ProgramData folder is sometimes a system hidden file, in which case please follow these instructions before starting:

  • Trying to open file in photoshop elements, only first option available in Edit Photo window.  The other two has "Edit a Copy is not applicable to raw or Digital Negative files" same for Edit Original.

Brand new user to Lightroom 5.  Was following tutorials and doing fine editing.  After done editing NEF files, I'm trying to open them in PSE 11 to further edit.  Using the "Edit Photo with Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor".  But the window only has the first option available and the other two grayed out.  Each of those has "...is not applicable to raw or Digital Negative files."  What??

sorry, no can do...ain't gonna happen.
What you've done is hit the wall on is the basic difference between lite duty spot healing and photo level tone and color correction (Lightroom and Camera Raw) and heavy duty pixel retouching in Photoshop.
When you need to substantially manipulate the "pixels" you need Photoshop and you'll be forced to render the raw file into a TIFF or PSD file either through Camera Raw or more better, via Lightroom.
You can do the basic tone and color correction directly in Lightroom and edit in Photoshop from Lightroom. But you will NEED to create and save out a "rendered" image that is no longer raw...then retouch to your heart's desire, save it and it'll be available in Lightroom along side your original raw if you choose.
But no, there's no way to open a raw in Photoshop, manipulate the heck out of it with massive retouching then save that back out as a raw file...ain't gonna happen.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 - displaying donloaded pics

Why do some pictures, copied to the pc, not show up in Photofun Studio 5/Photoshop Elements 8?

    Hey,
Photoshop Elements Organizer doesn't automatically import media into its catalog (unless your are using Watch folders functionality). Media which you have on your PC, you need to import first in Organizer and then you can go ahead with Organizer.
For automatically importing from one/more folders, please use Watch folders funtionality. You can access this from File->watch folders and then add the folders which you want to watch.
Please let me know if you were referring to something else.

  • How Can I Get My Photoshop Files to Display as Thumbnails

I received over 200 pictures that are in a PSD format and I need to be able to view these files through a Windows Explorer window- not through Bridge. I have CS3 and I don't like Bridge. It's really slow (my computer is made for heavy graphic work) and not very user friendly. I should also mention that I have Windows 7.
Does anyone know a safe way I can get Photoshop thumbnails to show in Windows Explorer? I've searched for hours over the last couple days and the one way that keeps popping up is to use the "psicon.dll" registry, but I'm afraid to use that for fear of harming my computer. I keep seeing that it was included in Photoshop 7 (I had Photoshop 7 and I was able to view thumbnails) but Adobe removed it because it caused problems, such as computer crashes, freezes, data loss, etc. Does anyone have any information - good, bad or indifferent - about that registry? Should I stay away from it?
I've also seen information about and am considering a third party codec: Ardfry, that will allow me to view PSD's as thumbs. Is this safe to use? Does anyone have any personal experience with this? Does anyone have any other solutions that have worked for them?
I really need to be able to view these PSD files without having to open them in Photoshop and I really don't have the time to go open them in Photoshop and one by one, save each image in a way that will get me a thumbnail. At the same time, I'm really particular about what I load onto my computer and if I see bad reviews about something I'm looking at, it makes me nervous, such as the "psicon.dll". I'm also a little unsure about that Ardfry, simply because I never heard of it before.
Any help would be very much appreciated!!

I see the answers so far mostly offer other viewing applications so introducing yet another application to be involved in your psd work.
Here is a solution that is somewhat similar to those but different in this way.  Its a tool that replaces explorer as you file manager.  At least in nearly every way.
So you would install this tool called Opus Directory Explorer:
    http://www.gpsoft.com.au/
It is a bit expensive but does offer a nice long trial (60 days free).  I'm not in any way associated with them, but I do use there application.
I have it running on 3 win7 64 bit machines and one win 7 32 bit (notebook) machine.
I have not seen any problems that I could attribute to Opus.   I do heavy work with PS and other adobe tools myself so may be a good indicator that you would not have any problems with it.
Further... in my view, win7 has cripled a once very capable tool (windows explorer) and made it far less usefull than it once was, I'm not sure what notion guides them to cripple explorer and the old Windows Search so badly, so I'm glad to be rid of explorer for the most part.  (The two file browsers can be run at the same time if so desired... again, no problems)
In practicle use, you would start Opus instead of the Windows Explorer,
I use Opus all day on a daily basis and am very happy with it
Oh, and I forgot, Opus provides tabs like a web browser, so you can have a tab of one directory handy while working in another.
You can have as many concurrent tabs as you please far as I've seen.
I'm including a screen grab of Opus viewing a directory with several sub directories present and several *.psd files I'm working on.
You  will note that Opus also shows a very handy view of the subdirectories by showing Icons of the image INSIDE them instead of just a directory  icon.

  • Does photoshop elements work with air display from avatron?

I want to use photoshop elements with air display from avatron.  Its necessary use pressure sensitive.

Photoshop Elements only specifically works with touchscreens when it comes to gestures (moving your finger(s) in a specific motion to get a special behavior). Otherwise, the touch screen should act exactly like a mouse. My guess here is that this is simply a question of precision. If you try to "click" and drag a corner of the crop interface, does the crop rectangle move or rotate instead of change size?

  • When trying to register Photoshop Elements with my serial number, only the numbers will show, not any letters in the number. Why?

When I try to register Photoshop Elements, only the numbers show in the boxes, none of the letters in the serial number will show.

Then obviously Elements is different from Photoshop, Indesign or Illustrator which all have only numbers.
Maybe you'd better ask in the Elements forum:

  • I cannot play a video .mov file in Photoshop Elements 12, it shows as a blank white screen

I cannot play a video file (.mov) in Adobe Photoshop Elements, only can hear sound, and shows as a blank white screen.

    Thanks for the replies.
I did some homework on your camera, and it appears to be recording H.264 video compression, Linear PCM Stereo, with a .mov file extension.
Let us do a check list to make sure we agree on the details...
    a. You cannot play back the video in the Elements Organizer 12
    b. Can you import this video into Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace with the program's Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets? Does it then show up in Project Assets with an image in the thumbnail? Can you drag the video from Project Assets to the Timeline and have the Edit Mode monitor display that video and play it back there when you hit the monitor play button?
From what I have read of your camera, you could be recording 1920 x 1080 @ 60 progressive frames per second. Can you supply an information on that? What are you or the project setting as the project preset (See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio.)
Could you explain what you mean by
and can play it in the video editor, but it just shows the frames, not a real video play.
I am searching the Internet to see if I can find a sample file that I can download.
    More later.

  • Paleolithic question : I went from Photoshop Elements 1 to 12 !

    Hello,
I went from Photoshop Elements 1 with a MacOS 9 Imac to Photoshop Elements 12 with a Macbook under Maveriks.
Some images made with Photoshop Elements 1 does not open in Photoshop Elements 12. images taken one month apart there several years may or may not open.
In "Get Info" from the Macbook, the system nevertheless recognizes these images as type "Adobe Photoshop Elements file".
But in the "More info" Macbook, those which open in Photoshop Elements 12 displayed: Dimensions: 591x886 / Space color: RGB / Alpha Channel: No / Opening: yesterday.
Those that do not open with Photoshop Elements 12 displayed nothing (only the opening time).
How to open these photos which are nevertheless in .psd format ?
Thank you in advance for any information,
    Michel

    1) In the Finder Get Info dialog under General, is there a size listed
for the images that won't open in pse 12?
Yes, I have a size listed for the images that won't open in pse 12,
about 2,5 Mo, below info "Type" : Adobe Photoshop Elements file.
    2) Did you recently copy the images from os 9 or were they stored on an
    cd/dvd or external drive?
I transferred all my documents to an external disk "Aluslim 2.5",
FireWire 400 and USB 2.0, format : "Mac OS Extended"
On the external drive Aluslim (where I kept the photos of trasfert) I
find the same corrupt files: In "Get Info" from the Macbook, the system
recognizes all images as "Adobe Photoshop Elements file". But in the
"More info" Macbook, those that open in PSE12 displayed: Dimensions:
591x886 / Space color: RGB / Alpha Channel: No / Opening: yesterday.
Those that do not open with PSE12 display nothing (only opening time)

  • Does Lightroom work with Photoshop Elements

Does Lightroom work with Photoshop Elements?

When setting up the editor in the prefs choose images of 8 bits not 16 bits, either PSD or tiff. Elements works best with 8 bit images. For example you can't use layers with 16 bit images.
Once you have set up the LR prefs you are ready to make the round trip:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings or right-click and choose Open In Photoshop Elements Editor
    2) Make your adjustments in Photoshop Elements; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop Elements and update Lightroom thumbnail.
    On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W
The important point is to overwrite the LR export copy by using File >> Save (Ctlr+S) because a tiff or PSD file has been automatically rendered by LR based upon your preference setting for External Editing. If you use “Save As” you create a new document which LR knows nothing about. It will only show in the LR Library if you save.

  • Scanning photos and Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 system requirements

    Hello all-
A long, involved question here, so bear with me.
I have a Power Mac G4, still working fine even though it's almost 8 years old.
I want to scan a number of photos for use in a Final Cut Pro 5 project. (I have an Epson Workforce 610 all-in-one scanner). If I understand correctly, the scanner will scan in square pixels, which is no good for video, so I will need to re-save the images in non-square pixels (or rectangular pixels with an 0.9 PAR?). I will also probably want to touch up/re-size a number of the image stills.
It seems to me that I could do this in Adobe Photoshop Elements, only my G4 doesn't have the necessary system requirements. Elements 9 needs a higher operating system, which I can't get because my G4 doesn't have an Intel processor. A side issue is that I also don't have a very large hard drive since the computer is so old (75 GB, about 15 GB free). But I plan to alter the images and then save them to an external drive which has plenty of space.
What to do? I have I-photo '09, but that doesn't seem to have the same functionality as Photoshop Elements 9. Should I try to get an old version of Elements on ebay? Do past versions of Elements have the option of converting from square to non-square pixels? Will past versions of Elements even work on my G4? (I read something which suggested that really old versions, like Elements 2, might not).
Any other options? (Short of buying a new computer, which I don't really want to do).
    Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks in advance for any and all help. I'm going to post this in a couple of different forums since I'm not exactly sure where the right place to ask this question is.
    --Roop

    Hi there,
I've read it can be done in FCP, perhaps an older version of that.
    What speed is your G4?
Have you tried it in iMovie 06 HD?
I wonder if GraphicConverter can do it...

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and 'Save for Web' problem

    Hi everyone,
I have used Photoshop Elements 2 for some time with absolutely no problems. However when I try to use the save for the web option I get an 'export could not be completed due to a program error' message.
Nothing relevant is mentioned on Adobe's support site. After having gone through the usual 9 troubleshooting procedure I suspect that there is a problem with the 'Save for Web EL' plugin located in the PE 2 plugins folder. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way I can somehow find a functional plugin?
Thank you for reading this post.
    PowerBook G4 DVI 667   Mac OS 9.2.x

I don't use Photoshop elements myself, but from Photoshop CS it works fine. I use JPG compression and optimization. First of all - make sure the file format extensions are all available. Applications/adobe/photoshop elements/file formats AND ALSO Applications/adobe/photoshop elements/photoshop elements only/file formats (here I am assuming the paths are the same or similar to Photoshop). Also, check the extensions disabled folder (Control click on Photoshop and go to package contents). If it's none of these, I suggest you check the settings in Elements when trying to save and make sure you are not using an option that conflicts.
Also, check the Adobe forum. http://www.adobeforums.com
    Check for software upgrades also.
You do have enough hard drive space and RAM I assume. If you are using PS Elements and virtual memory is on, you may not have enough phsyical space to save the file (but not likely)
P.S. I see (after i wrote) that you are running 9.2.2 - so the paths will not be the same as if it was on OS X - but they will be similar.
