Photoshop Elements 12 locking up

I am using a Mac with System 10.9.1 and my PSE12 keeps locking up while I am working on a project.
The only way to solve at this point is to force shut down and hope I saved very recently. This is frustrating as you can imagine.

if you use organizer, also

If you use raw, Adobe Camera Raw < version > Prefs
and any lockfiles with the same names.
Since you've already run PSE, go into the Saved Application States folder and delete any for PSE.
Repair permissions and try again. If it still happens, it's probably this:

unless you've installed the TWAIN plug-in, in which case that may be causing it.

Photoshop Elements 9 Locking Up

Immediately upon loading Photoshop Elements 9 the program locks up. Restarting does not help. Running 64bit quad core processor. 8 Ram. Any Ideas. This has been a constant problem since loading on new compurter last year.

The Organizer preferences may have become corrupted, needing to be automatically re-built on a re-start.
Close Elements and click the Windows start button.
Navigate to:
John > AppData >Roaming >Adobe >Photoshop Elements >9.0 >Organizer
Delete the PSA file (with key symbol) and delete Status.dat
Re-start the program
N.B. replace John with your own user name

Photoshop Elements 8 locks up on Start-Up

I reinstalled Elements 8 on my Vista Pc after a crash, following the directions given by Adobe but now after the Welcome screen appears and Organiser loads in the backgtound the program locks and can only be stopped by CTR-ALT-DEL.
Before the crash Organiser was attempting to import some photos.
I have tried some of the existing threads but none seem to work.

If you experienced a system crash you have probably lost the data base unless you kept regular back-ups.
Try making a new catalog.
When you see the welcome screen hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys
Click on the Organize button whilst continuing to hold down those three keys.
Release the keys when you see the catalog manager dialog then click New.

I created a 1 layer TIFF file in Photoshop Elements 6 with text only which was distorted then flattened. The result was grey text on a white background. The problem is I can't change the color of the gray text.
I select the Foreground color icon on the tool bar at the left side, then I get the color pallet window, but no matter what color I select the Foreground color icon can only be gray or white (if I chose a lighter color).
Somehow 24 bits worth of color choices are converted to 1 bit (gray or white), and there's no obvious controls to change this, no F1 help guides and no obvious knowledgebase or forum comments. Does the file format, which is unknown to me, govern Photoshop operations (?), which would of course make absolutely no sense even if it were true, because that should only be an output formatting decision.

PhotoShop Elements 5.0 Cursor locks to Hand tool

I use Photoshop Elements 5.0, and sometimes, my cursor will lock to the hand tool and I can't use any other tools. I will exit the program and open it back up, and it will still be locked on the hand tool, but later, it will randomly start working again and let me use the other tools. How can I fix this?

I'd start by checking the space bar on the keyboard. It might be sticking. When (if) you get stuck in the hand tool, try tapping your space bar.
Reason: The space bar is the shortcut that calls up the hand tool.

Photoshop Elements 6.0 locks up deleting pictures from my Canon Digital Rebel XSI

I'm a long time user of Photoshop Elements and have never had one issue with it. I just got a Canon Rebel XSi and when I connect it to my PC, PE offers to download the pictures. That works fine. The pictures come into PE. Then it offers to delete the pictures from the camera and this is where the trouble begins. I click "Okay" to begin deleting and then the little dialogue box never goes away and the program just stays hung up.
HELP! What is wrong? Why is this locking up?

It's really not a good idea to let elements delete the photos in any case. Your camera has its own directory structure that the computer doesn't fully understand. It's preferable to just reformat your card in the camera or delete the photos directly in the camera, rather than letting a computer do it for you.

You can't sign in because there is nothing to sign in to. For PSE 10 the only sign in was to photoshop.com, which has been dead and gone for a year and half. Just skip the sign in. Reinstalling will not change this.

PSE is locking up because it's looking interminably for the non-existent photoshop.com server.

Photoshop Elements 8 organizer locks upas soon as i access it. How do I free it up?

I reinstalled the photoshop Elements 8 to correct the view display. Now I cannot access Organizer as it locks up when i attempt to sign in. It seems to be trying to access a catalogue that I do not use. How do I gain access to organizer?

I see that your suggestion to hit Shift before opening Organizer opens the Catalog. This did not work for me. Nothing happens.
Is there any other way to access or recreate the catalog file??

Bingo! After several hours of trying different things, this finally did it...

The PSE 7 tech note also applies to PSE 8 – replace 7.0 with 8.0 in the folder name it says to delete.
I deleted the folder "Photoshop Elements 8.0.0" found in this location:
C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Online Services\
Now I can go to bed.

Photoshop Elements 9 will not print a photo & usually locks up

I bought Photoshop Elements 9 threeyears ago when I upgraded to a Win 7 computer. I have NEVER been able to print a photo!!! Program tells there is no printer then just locks up & closes.

Photoshop Elements 9 seems to be locked on printing to HP Photosmart 410C Fax

After installing a new HP Photosmart 410C on my Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) system, my Photoshop Elements 9 seems to be locked on printing to the fax feature of the 410C. I have tried uninstalling the fax feature and uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop Elements 9.

It normally works by dragging the pages at any point in list view which displays them. That is really a basic one.

My tools for photoshop elements 12 are locking up. WHY

The last 6 times or so that I have tried to get onto my photoshop elements 12 and work on something, the tools are locking up and I have to force quite the program.
I have tried several things and nothing is working.
I don't see any up date for the program. The only thing that I did different was update my mac computer to Yosemite.....and that could be the problem....maybe something is not compatible.
It is very frustrating to say the least. Any help would be appreciated!!

I had a message that I had an update to my Photoshop Elements 7 and I clicked to do the update. Afterwards, I now can load the program but when I try to do a task, i.e. add a tag, start a new album, etc., the program locks up. I have rebooted mutiple times and the same issue is there. Do I reload the program? If so, will I loose the work I've done in Organize, etc.

Photoshop Elements, All drop down lists locked

After downloading PSE11 and starting the trial version, all drop down lists are greyed out and locked....File, Edit, Windows, Layers, etc...all lists have the text in grey and are not available for use...I am not able to do or save anything.
Please help....and yes, I have tried opening an image and editing it...and still the same problem.
Trial versions are supposed to be fully functional...and yet nothing is functioning...PLEASE HELP!

Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. After a few seconds release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Alternatively hold down the three keys whilst clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys for a few seconds; then release. You should get the settings option.
When you see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
Click on Yes
Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.
