Photoshop Elements 12 - Suddenly Levels Adjustments won't Work

I've edited zillions of photos in PSE-12 and suddenly when I adjust the levels and click "OK", the images goes back to it's original lighting. I'm working on a scan of an old letter that was written in 1919.
Here's my examples:
FIRST:
AS I TRY TO ADJUST:
It seems good until I click "OK" and then it goes right back to looking like it does above in my "FIRST" example above!
What the heck? What to do?

In my frustration,I opened another file and changed the levels. It worked perfectly! Should I delete preferences and if so how do I do that?

Stephylei you will want to download the Mac versions of the installation files.  If you purchased the software from Adobe, and choose the download option at the time of purchase, then the download will be available under your account.  You can find more details at Find a download link on Adobe.com.

Is this the mac app store version? A number of people are having this problem. This is what adobe recommended in the past for fixing the problem, but as far as I know it doesn't work in Yosemite:
Mac App Store version is German | Photoshop Elements <http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/mac-app-store-version-german.html>

In Photoshop Elements 11, the editor workspace has stopped working and will not open.

Operating system? and how are you opening it? From a shortcut, from the welcome screen, from the organizer, from the program/application file itself?

    Hi Chris,
Shortly after I got your message below, I got another message that claims it is from "help desk 24x7 has sent you a message - Adobe Forums”.
I am attaching the message.  I find it suspicious that it is asking for a Skype ID and a telephone number.  What do you think?

  • How do I deactivate Photoshop Elements on 2 computers that don't work?

I installed Photoshop Elements on 2 computers that no longer work.  How do I deactivate them so I can install the software on my new computer?

By going to this link <http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html> and following the online instructions.
Both computers gone busted at the same time?  You will be asked this question so be prepared for the answer.

  • Photoshop Elements 4 suddenly won't start up

I last used Elements on 7th July. It was fine. Since 21st july, it won't start - goes through all the brushes loading etc but then quits.
    I have:
Removed all Adobe programmes, prefs etc using AppZapper
Cleaned up using Adobe's maccs3clean script
Repaired disk permissions (a huge long list there, why?)
Re-installed Elements 4.0 between some of these stages.
No luck! It still crashes at the same point. Could I try reverting to an earlier system state via TimeCapsule, if so how do I do that?
Or, re-install the OS (my Leopard version would be quite old now) and do a total update?
    Advice very welcome,

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 suddenly switched to German

After using Photoshop Elements 10 for a couple years on my MacBook Pro in English, it suddenly changed to German.  I did not reinstall or do anything out of the ordinary.  I've double-checked that my System Preferences are still English.  How can I change it back to English?

God knows what you can do but try this doc:
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6467>
    <http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/mac-app-store-version-german.html>
Language is normally set at the time of installation but something definitely went wrong on your system.  I don't use MAC so can't help you further.

  • Using Photoshop Elements 6 with iPhoto 09 won´t update miniatures

Hi there - I´m a newbie and a recent switcher from Windows and Linux so please be gentle with me if I´m asking silly questions...
I want to use iPhoto to organize my photos and Photoshop Elements 6 (by now the trial version if that matters) to edit my photos.
I found the settings to define Photoshop as the default editor (by the way - can I still use iPhoto for simple edits by some hidden command?) and I know that I just have to use save (not save as) in Photoshop. My Problem is, that iPhoto does not reflect the changes I make in the miniatures (except for aspect ratio changes). When i double-click the edited image to enlarge it I can see, that my changes are applied to the image (I can also see the new version of the image in finder in my iPhoto-Library).
Does anybody have an idea? Thanks in advance.

By the way: do you think timemachine backups are enough?
    No.
I may be a tad extreme but my photos are important to me and my family.
My Library lives on my iMac.
It’s Backed up to two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected. For this job I use DejaVu because it makes a simple back up that is clear and can be tested easily without doing an full restore.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. Personally I use SmugMug but there are many options including flickr. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size, or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you will need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a restore.
    Regards
    TD

  • Photoshop Elements 6 - PDF slide show won't run when email is opened

I have created a slide show in Photoshop Elements 6 as a PDF file and sent it to myself as a trial run. Although I have selected the 'loop' option the show does not run automatically when the email attachement is opened as I believe it should. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

It comes to something when I have to answer my own question!  However I have to admit I did have a little help from an earlier question which was thrown up by a search I did! It seems that when a PDF show is emailed and the recipient is asked whether the show should be opened in full screen or not; the answer should be 'yes' in order for the show to start automatically.
If the recipient answers 'no' the show stays stuck on the first slide. Hope this help anyone else who may have the same problem.

  • I have Photoshop Elements 7.0 and it won't accept my serial number. What do I do?

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 and, when I set it up, it says my serial number isn't valid. I have a Dell Latitude 3340 with Windows 8.1 and it is a PC. My issue isn't in the FAQ's (that I can see) so what do I do to make my serial number valid?

  • My full version photoshop elements 12 suddenly became a trial version. Help needed

I have installed my full version photoshop elements 12 via my dvd installer from mediamarkt and after 2 days...i cannot launch photoshop elements and says that my trial version has expired.  I tried to uninstall and install the software 3 times.  The fourth time I downloaded the Photoshop Elements Trial Version from Adobe website and used my serial number.  Still it did not work and it continues to say that TRIAL VERSION HAS EXPIRED. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

    Dear Barbara,
Thank you so much for responding.  Yes, my OS is Windows. I will go through this and will let you know what happens.
    Best regards,

  • Photoshop Elements 3 - how can I make it work fast enough for 4' x 6' art?

I've had Photoshop Elements 3 for about 4 years and it does all I need to do with some art work, except that it slows to an unacceptable crawl when I work in large sizes, such as 300 dpi (or is it ppi?) at 4' by 6'.  I also use Fractal Painter 3 and need to use both of them.... I want to do artwork to be reproduced on canvas via giclee print, but presently, I'm told my work will only blow up to a size of 2' wide.   I have a Dell dimension 8300 Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz 2.99 Ghz. 1.50 GB of RAM; HOME EDITION vERSION 2002, Service Pack 3.  128 MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Card.  I would so appreciate any help in how to make this computer run Photoshop Elements 3 fast enough and reliably at the larger file sizes.  Blessings and thanks for any help!   Oh, and I do use a Wacom tablet with it, in case that makes any difference.

To increase editing spped for larger file sizes with high resolution , Go to Edit>Preferences>Performance and increase the Cache
Levels value to maximum which is 8 .
Setting a higher cache level improves performance by speeding redraw times.
Refer this page to get some useful tips of how to increase performance of PSE. See if it makes any difference.
