Photoshop Elements 4 suddenly won't start up

I last used Elements on 7th July. It was fine. Since 21st july, it won't start - goes through all the brushes loading etc but then quits.
I have:
Removed all Adobe programmes, prefs etc using AppZapper
Cleaned up using Adobe's maccs3clean script
Repaired disk permissions (a huge long list there, why?)
Re-installed Elements 4.0 between some of these stages.
No luck! It still crashes at the same point. Could I try reverting to an earlier system state via TimeCapsule, if so how do I do that?
Or, re-install the OS (my Leopard version would be quite old now) and do a total update?
Advice very welcome,

This sounds helpful! Okay, here's the log contents:

  • Photoshop elements 11 won't start up

    Hi,
Whenever I open photoshop elements 11 it loads up, shows my organizer screen breifly then closes out and gives me a message saying I must back up my files.  I can click cancel, don't show me this message again or click to start the backup.  The backup will run, but both options do not stop the message from showing the next time I try running the program.  Also, the window for the program does not reappear after the message is shown.  I have to force close the program through task manager or restart my computer to get the program to open again-except it gives the back up message and the cycle begins again.  Even I click do not show this message again, it pops up the next time I open the program.  Any one have ideas on how to fix this?

Me too. PE11 Win 7 pro, i7-2600, 16Gb@1600mhz ram 120GB SSD for win, 2x1Tb HDD. It was working before the security breach. Now welcome screen opens and I pick organizer or editor but nothing else happens, If I open directly from the harddrive i get error messages saying it is not properly installed. I've been on the phone for several hours with different techs. we have unloaded and reloaded several times but no joy. I'm trying to start a photo business but adobe is holding me back. Can anyone recomend a non adobe product?

  • New Photoshop Elements 12 won't start installation

Just bought Adobe photoshop elements 12. The disc will pop out after 15 seconds. I hear my Mac but nothing happen. I have all the system requirements (Mac OSX (10.8.5) and recent version of Flash Player. What could be the problem. Thanks!

    St. Viateur
Although you purchased the bundle of Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12, each is a standalone product. And, each has it own set of considerations based on its basic reason for being, Photoshop Elements (photo editor) and Premiere Elements (video editor).
However, if I am understanding what you are trying to tell us....
I see your rationale in posting in the Premiere Elements forum since your issue seems to target the installation disc which includes installation files for Premiere Elements as well as Photoshop Elements.
Am I correct in understanding that you insert this one and only disc into your DVD burner tray and, before you can select Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements, the DVD burner tray pops open? Is that correct?
Please excuse the following additional questions, but I do not want to take anything for granted...
    a. These bundles come with installation disc for Windows and Mac. Could you have picked up the Windows disc by mistake?
    b. Did you purchase the bundle from Adobe or an authorized reseller?
Please verify my understanding of your basic question and confirm that you installation disc is the one for Mac not Windows.
Let us start here and then move forward from there.
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 - won't start

When purchasing a new computer 18 months ago - Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 was pre-installed.   My son has been happily utilising this software since to do his homework - all of a sudden it has now stopped working i.e. click on the icon and nothing happens.  This is the same on all user accounts on the PC.  The OC on the PC is Windows 7.  Grateful for any advice.

On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go to c:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
    Alternatively,
Try resetting the PSE preferences by
       1. Close Elements.
       2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Edit.
       3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall.
try and let me know your comments.

  • Photoshop Elements 4 won't start anymore

I have been running Photoshop Elements 4 on my MacBook Pro since I purchased it in April. Just recently is stopped launching and I have tried all of the solutions I could find in the discussion groups with no success. I've deleted everything, repaired permissions and reinstalled both from my directory and from root with no success. Other users on this computer have the same problem. The console log shows the following repeatedly before it stops trying to launch.

    Can someone help?
MacBook Pro 15 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The only other thing I can think of (I tend to agree that the problem is with the font bundles, not with PE) would be to try deleting the font caches with a utility like Onyx. While you're in there, you might want to force run the maintenance scripts as well, but I wouldn't mess with other things OnyX can do, at least not yet. You can get it (free) from versiontracker or macupdate.com.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 won't start

I wanted to add some new photos to my Elements 10 catalogue earlier and get a couple of error messages.
The first is that "Windows requires a reboot to return the system to it's original state". However, rebooting does not seem to make any changes.
If I ignore and close that message, I then get a 2nd message from Elements 10 itself stating:- "DirectX could not be initialized. Please be sure that it is installed on your system".
I made sure that the latest version is downloaded and installed, but Elements Organizer still won't initialise.
Any advice and help would be appreciated.
    Rob

  • Photoshop Elements 10 won't complete installation and won't uninstall.

Photoshop Elements 10 won't complete the installation process and it won't uninstall using the uninstall utility (I get an error message).  So I tried deleting all files manually.  However, when I re-insert Disc #1 it only offers to uninstall Elements 10 - which it won't do (same error message).  So I can't go forward (install) or backward (uninstall).  My computer is a Dell Studio 1555 with 4 GB of RAM, 64-bit OS, running on Vista Home Premium.  I have 180 GB free of 283 GB on the C drive.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 won't install on my MacBookAir. [was: Adobe Photoshop Elements 6]

Photoshop Elements 6 won't install on my MacBookAir. It gives a message - contact Adobe Customer Service. The program was bundled with Wacom Bamboo.

[Moved from Cloud forum to Photoshop Elements forum]
Photoshop Elements 6 is ancient software which is unlikely to run on your MacBook Air.
You can upgrade to Photoshop Elements 11 for the US$79.99 upgrade price if you still have your PSE6 serial number.

    Hi Zach.
Sorry to say but Elements 12 came out several months before your camera. Adobe stops updating camera raw files for old software editions so that people have to buy new versions of the software when they get a new camera. It happened to me with LR3 when I got a new camera.
There are works rounds but they are a lot of extra steps and I think you would be converting the files to Some format other than RAW (tiff?) and which I am not sure will perform the same.
I think you just need to get a newer version of Elements.

The ScriptingSupport.8li that comes with Photoshop CS5.1 should have the module version 12.1.0.0 as well.
It sounds as if you have done something where you have mixed modules from an older version of Photoshop (CS3) into those that Photoshop CS5 is enumerating during startup.
Did you, by chance, copy the entire contents of a folder (e.g. plug-ins or scripts) and get extra files you didn't intend?
Have you set an Extra plug-ins folder up to point to the plug-ins for an earlier version of Photoshop?
Mixing up versions of Photoshop is a no-no.
You may want to start by clearing your Photoshop  preferences...  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediate after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're quick enough, and you have to be VERY quick to get the keys down, it will prompt you to confirm deletion of the preferences it already has set up, which will then cause it to use defaults.
