Photoshop elements 5.0.2 restore catalog

I recently had to rebuild my Vista 32 bit operating system.  After that I installed PSE 5.0.2 and Premiere Elements 3.0.2 again.  After the installations had completed I started PSE with the "view and Organize photos" option and then went to RESTORE catalog so that I could restore from a full catalog backup I had taken earlier.  The restore appeared to be successful but when I remove the last CD from a multi-CD backup, PSE just seemed to freeze up.  When I start the task monitor it indicates that PSE is "not responding".  After that I terminate PSE.  I have reinstalled both Adobe applications several times with the same results.  I have also deleted the MY Calalog.PSA entries and all entries in the my pictures folders so that the next catalog restore I did would have a clean start.  Nothing changed.  I have thousands of photos in this catalog and really need to get it restored.
I should add that the first time I restored the catalog after reinstalling PSE it appeared to be successful.  The collections and tags were there.  I then decided to create an new catalog with the name "My Catalog 2009" for any future pictures to reside in.  After that I was never able to get PSE to run again.  Anytime I started it, it appeared to freeze up.
I checked another thread with a similar problem that suggested starting PSE and hitting cntl, alt, shift inorder to get to catalog selection entries.  I did that and renamed "My Catalog" to something else.  Then when PSE started I created another catalog and put on picture in it.  That worked fine.  Then I restored the catalog from another full backup,  thinking the one I had previously used was bad.  But the same thing happened again.  After the restore had complete PSE froze up.  All my full backups can't be bad.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Greg

I'm not sure about the backup problem.
Freezing when you open PSE 5.0.2 in Vista is fixed via this: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400848&sliceId=1
Guess: This could fix the backup problem as well.

finally getting back to this project---adobe starter edition 3.2 is on a windows XP computer
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 12 is on our Windows 8.1 computer.
error messages--- had to give up trying to convert---I copied all our pictures to our windows 7 laptop and I installed adobe photoshop elements 12 (my bought program)
I wanted to try to convert there first. also I copied our catalog to this computer also. Everything was working fine I could see the collections just as they where on the XP computer.
then I tried to convert on the laptop. I believe the error said something about corrupt file, so I gave up that day. Next day I tried to open ADOBE STARTER EDITION 3.2  and it wanted an unlock code, no such code exists. and my copy of Elements 12 turned into a trial version which has expired. So I am a little hesitant to try to convert on the XP  computer and mess up the existing catalog,
unless there is a fool proof way. I have tried manually making collections/ albums on Windows 8.1 and PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 12  and coping pictures into the new albums. sloooow!!
I probably have about 4500 pictures and 150 collections/ albums to go. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Help with Photoshop Elements 10 after system restore

Hi I need some help and guidance. I have successfully installed my Photoshop Elements 10 twice now; once on my own; and following a MS Vista System Restore; with the help of Adobe support . I then worked on it for a day and all was well.
But unbeknown to me at the time, I had a MS System corruption that was causing Boot issues resulting in a forced Restore of my system and both Restores caused the Photoshop elements desk-top shortcut to disappear and a subsequent PSE10 re-install to fail with the dreaded Data7 , and "Application Shared Technologies" and rollback of Orgainizer and Editor etc etc.
I now realise that the two events were connected and the Adobe Support Person helped me get PSE10 up and running but it involved a lot of file permission changes etc, which lost me in the process, which was done remotely. PS Great customer support!!
After sorting out my MS Vista problem due to "Corrupt System" files, I now need to get my PSE10 up and running again; but how?
    Regards John

Have you tried uninstalling and installing again?
    thanks.

  • Migrating from Photoalbum 2.0 to Photoshop Elements 7 - how to preserve catalog?

This is a newbie question - we only want a good photo organiser.
We have Adobe Photoalbum 2.0 currently and with 11,000 images think it's running out of steam.
Advised by Adobe that this product has ended and they suggest move to Photoshop Elements 7. We have 100s of hours invested in editing and tagging images using Photoalbum 2.0. Can Elements import the entire catalog and preserve the hiding of originals of edited images + the tagging/cagorisation?
    Thanks!

PSE 7 should be able to convert your catalog. However, there are bugs in the conversion process and you may encounter problems. I suggest reading this FAQ  and the referenced Adobe tech notes first:

  • Need to reinstall Photoshop Elements - will I lose my catalog?

I have a Mac. I posted here before stating my program is unstable, and cant do anything as it locks up as soon as I do anything. My only choice now is to try and remove and reinstall, as not other options were afforded me.
If I remove the program via the Finder - will I lose my catalog, or connection to the catalog, when I reload the software? I have 35,000 tagged and organized picrtuires and cant afford a goof.
Is there any way to "fix" it in place?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Hi,
Please uninstall from the uninstaller that comes with PSE. Catalogs remain intact upon uninstall so they would remain as is.
Also, which version of MAC do you have?
    Thanks

  • Photoshop Elements 5, trying to reconnect photos in Catalog, Vista

I had to install a new fixed disk in my Vista PC and re-install all programme's. In this process it turned out that folder structure is now slightly different from the past. I had copied all photo's to new disk (note I use different folders). Subsequently, I re-installed Photoshop Elements 5 and copied my old catalog. Because of the slight differences in folder names, I need to reconnect all photo's in the catalog. Problem: in this reconnection process my Photoshop Elements program stops after a few reconnections (sometime already after 2 pictures, sometimes after say a bout 5 or 6). Photoshop shuts down and I need to restart. Anybody a suggestion? Thanks in advance Rob Tausk (The Netherlands)

Having a nearly identical problem here. Just bought a new computer, which upgraded me from XP to Win 7, and at the same time I upgraded to Photoshop Elements 9. I restored my Photoshop Elements backup, but found a majority of my photos had become disconnected due to a change in the folder hierarchy from XP to Win 7. Many of my photos when I was using XP were in C:\documents and settings\..., but in Windows 7 there is no documents and settings folder under C:, and Windows won't even let me create a folder with that name so as to move the photos back into it. So now all my photos are in C:\Users\My Pictures\... and PSE can't seem to find them. I have to browse on each one to manually reconnect it. Very tedious and no way that is going to work for nearly 10,000 photos in my catalog. What's worse, the program freezes after I perform a half-dozen or so reconnects. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, and also the suggestion on the Adobe tech note (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/400/kb400848.html) and neither seems to abate the freezing issue. I've also tried both restore options (restore to same location and restore to new location/preserve folder layout) and the folder hierarchy is still messed up either way. Any suggestions?

  • Wrong Photoshop Elements catalog in iTunes to sync with iPhone

    Hi,
I am using windows XP, latestversion of iTunes and Photoshop Elements 5 (PSE5).
I use several catalogs, one per each company I work for, and one entirely for personal pictures. The personal pictures catalog is the one I want to have automatically synchronized with iPhone, however, even though it is the "active" catalog that opens by default in Photoshop Elements, iTunes detects an other catalog and I want to change this so iTunes refers to the correct catalog. I tried restarting the PC after loading the desired catalog in PSE5 and closing it, and iTunes still refers to one of my work catalogs that I don't wish to use.
Any clue how to do this.
I could of course, have iTunes point to a specific folder, export the images from my personal catalog to that specific folder and do so every time I need to add pictures to my iPhone. This involves doing the image export and transfer manually every time, instead of automatically having the desired images added to the iPhone during sync, after they were tagged in PSE5 with the appropriate tag.
    Thanks!

    Hi there.
Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, what is this and where can I find it? Finder Help had nothing to say about it, and Google just led me to this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1865
which strongly recommended me not to mess with it.
I really do need to make this old email account go away, I just need to make sure that I don't make the problem worse in the process. Thanks in advance for any help, just want to be extra careful here.

  • Photoshop elements 10 upgrade

I've got Windows XP and Photoshop Elements 4.0.  20,100 photos taking 10.3 MB of data.  Backed up on external hard drive using Sybase software. This backs up the Windows files containing the pictures.  It doesn't back up the Adobe catalog construct.  I need to change the OS to Windows 7 (I hope) and have Adobe Photoshop 10 to install.  Looking for instructions to re-create the Adobe catalog on the new OS with Adobe 10 installed.
    I think:
    (1) Backup catalog to an external hard drive using the Adobe "backup" command. I'm hopeful this backups the "catalog" structure.
    (2) Wipe hard drive and install Windows 7.
    (3) Install Adobe Photoshop Elements 10.
    (4) Restore Adobe catalog form external hard drive.
Seems easy when I write it but I've read a lot of scary things on the support board re: backing up.
Any other thoughts out there for this process?  Should I use PS10 or get PS12?  Etc.?
Thanks in advance to all for your help.

You have described the right procedure.
The organizer backup saves the catalog as well as the media files.
If you want to have still more safety (who would not ?) also make a separate backup copy of the catalog. It's a folder containing the database - catalog.psa for PSE4 if I remember well. Copy the whole folder, it can be used if for some reason the standard procedure fails; not as simple to restore, but all the information is kept and is recoverable.
I suppose you are refering to the following detailed procedure:
Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later

  • Photoshop elements 5 printing photos

When printing in Adobe photoshop elements 5 with windows xp, SOME of the photos show horizontal blaack lines in various locations. If these lines appear in the print preview final screen, they print on the photo. I have spent 4 hours online with HP to determine it is NOT a printer problem.
Some photos print well and others show the lines. ANy advice?

  • Upgrading to Photoshop Elements 12

Can I upgrade my Photoshop Elements 4 to Elements 12 on Windows and how do I go about that? I currently have Windows XP on my desktop computer. Also, would that automatically migrate intact my Collections? If not how would I go about ensuring it does? I will soon be moving over to an IMac.

As far as I know, Adobe is no longer selling version 12, version 13 is the latest version they have for sale.

  • I don't want to import PHOTOS. I want to get only one into Lightroom for temporary work. How do I do this. (the photo is now in Photoshop Elements).

Don't want to import all photos from my camera or anywhere else. I only want to work on one image then put it back into Elements. Please tell me how to do this and I would appreciate a detailed answer. Please do not be vague.

Lightroom is not a file browser, It isn't anything like the organizer in Photoshop Elements. Lightroom uses a catalog, which is a database. That database keeps track of the location of images that have been imported, as well as all of the adjustments that you make to those images using Lightroom. The import process is a process of showing Lightroom where the images are located on your computer. You can't just open an image in Lightroom, make changes and then close it. Lightroom doesn't make changes to the original image. Your images are left in their pristine state. All the changes are stored in the catalog. And when it comes time to share an image that has been adjusted in Lightroom you need to export a copy that includes all of those changes. It's a different workflow, and one that you need to become accustomed to. I suggest that you watch a series of short tutorials that will help you understand more completely how Lightroom works.

  • How to go from Photoshop Album Starter Edition to Photoshop Elements?

I have both Photoshop Album Starter Edition and Photoshop Elements on my computer. I didn't even know I had the PSA SE--I just assumed it was part of Photoshop Elements when it automatically opened after I stuck my photo disk in. So I started playing around with it and cataloged my new photos. Then I started Photoshop Elements, and none of the cataloging or tags that I had just entered in PSA SE were there. Is there any way to transfer the information from PSA SE to Photoshop Elements without having to retype everything?

You need to locate the PSA SE catalog file. It is called My Catalog.PSA and is Docs&Settings somewhere [in a hidden folder]. Once you have located it, in PSE organizer do File/Catalog/Open and navigate to the file you just located. It will be converted and everything should work OK.

  • Photoshop elements 10 freezes when creating slideshow from album

It seems pretty simple to just select a few pictures from the organizer, select create, select slideshow.  A box comes up asking my preferences and when I say OK, the program freezes.  Any thoughts?

    Anwesha,
I did delete the psa.prf and status.dat files, opened photoshop elements, opened organizer, opened the catalog, hit repair, the system said it did not need to be repaired.
When finished, I selected a few photos, hit create, hit slideshow.  The editor box came up, I hit OK to the preferences, then it locked up again.  All other functions in the create category are working fine.   So I tried the same thing all over again, deleting the files you suggested, and went back into the catalog, hit repair and when it said it did not need to be repaired, I hit ‘repair anyway’.  It still did not work.
    Thanks for your continued help.
