Photoshop Elements 6.0 - Best How to manuals

Hi,
Anyone make a recommendation for a MAC user as to which PS E 6.0 book is best for learning? I had assumed PhotoShop for Dummies, but wanted something that might have had a MAC flair to it instead of Windows. Looking for good reference book

Once you have a full back up you can make incremental back ups.
Start by creating a new folder or label a new disk - it’s best to use dates e.g. “PSE6 inc backup 2011-0831”
Press Ctrl+B and check Incremental, then click Next
Highlight your drive containing the last backup and click the bottom Browse button (previous back up file) then navigate to the TLY file and click open.
Click the Browse button above and navigate to your new folder “PSE inc backup 2011-0831”
Click Done.
If your full backup originally contained 500 images, the incremental backup will only contain changes since the last backup e.g. files B000501.jpg, B000502.jpg etc
If you ever have to do a complete restore you start with the TLY file from the latest incremental backup. The program automatically recognizes the number of incremental steps and you will be prompted to insert a disk or navigate to the appropriate drive.
Incremental backup’s are obviously much quicker to write to disk but I recommend that you periodically perform another full backup and delete any earlier backups.

I purchased Photoshop Elements 10 from Best Buy last night. I am trying to access the serial number to activate it, but the site that the label tells you to go to and enter your redemption code is not working. Anyone know how to help?

Since it's the long holiday weekend, you might have to wait until Tuesday for Adobe support to be available.
You should be able to use PSE10 as a trial version until you get a serial number.

No the pages will open as separate documents in Expert Mode. You really need Acrobat or possibly you could copy and paste the contents into MS word. Then re-save as PDF.

You indicated that the images "seemed" to be in the right order. It might be a good idea to rename the images on export using a custom name/sequence. If you have done that and the images are still not in order, it's possible that your operating system browsing window is using a different sort order. I sometimes change windows explorer to sort by file type, and then files are sometimes in what seems be a strange order.

Re Photoshop Elements 10 - who can recommend reference manuals about how to work between my existing Aperture 2.1.4 and my just purchased Photoshop Elements?

I shoot in Raw with a Canon G9 Compact - after rapidly ditching iPhoto in favour of Aperture, I now want to learn to use Photoshop Elements together with Aperture - I can obviously buy something like the "Dummies" or the "Missing Manual" books about Elements 10, but what can you recommend that will help me learn about the best ways to move images between the two, and how to combine the best features of Aperture and Elements? Thanks for any advice.

I will defer to Sierra Dragon, one of the strongest advocates of Referenced Masters on this forum, but I suspect that your upgrade would only engage about 32 GB of HD space.
I have always used a Managed Library because I like the import-and-forget security.
AP2 arranges each master, thumb, and preview into a single folder. AP3 rearranges things so that all of the masters are in one folder, thumbs another, and previews in another. This has the advantage of making it easier to find your masters, should you ever have to open the Package and look for them.
AP3 is very nice and, with at least 4 GB of RAM, tends to be very speedy. Were I thee, I would force a TM back up and then turn it off while you run the upgrade. Turn it back on only when you are sure that all is well.
If you search this forum for posts around the time that AP3 first came out, you will find that there was a list of cache and pref files that sometimes had to be deleted. I believe that subsequent versions of the AP3 incorporated this into the program as I have not heard of that trick being necessary for years.
In my case, I had a 150 GB Managed Master Library, so I copied it out on an external drive and ran the upgrade there. Once I was sure that it had worked (and it did, first time), I copied it back. As you might imagine, 150 GB over FW800 took some time, but I had three copies of my Library at all times.
A final note, if you are committed to using Referenced Masters (as I now am, having sprung for a SSD) remember that they are write once/read many. That is, they are NEVER rewritten once they are out on disk. I have mine on a dedicated 250 GB and it never fragments. Your Library, on the other hand, reads and writes all the time, keep it on your largest, fastest disk.

All my desktop files will now only open in the photoshop elements edit page. How can this be corrected?

As stated in my question I tried to open a manual I have on my desktop and it opened it Photoshop Elements edit page in a thumb nail format. I checked and all my desktop items will only open in the photoshop elements edit page. what do I need to do to correct this?

Now that we have your post in the correct forum, I have a few questions, please:
What is the file format of this "manual?"
What OS version are you running?
If this is Windows (a PC), then what is that file format associated with in File Types? It is likely that the particular format has been associated with PsE. If that is not what you want, the association can be changed from the Control Panel, to link it to the desired program.

Photoshop elements 8 for Mac - how to move photos (events) from iphoto to pse

I have figured out how to move one photo over through opening a file. But I can't move a full event or album from iphoto. Ive tried going to bridge but when i click on the iphoto folder, it takes me into my iphoto and I'm not sure what do then, no buttons or anything that seems to connect to PSE. Any help would be appreciated! I wish Adobe supported this product better for Mac users. Maybe they read these discussions?

Are you opening iPhoto files from within Photoshop Elements? You can open all the files in an iPhoto event into PSE8 through a single click.
In Photoshop Elements, go to File menu > Open. In the browser window that appears, click Photos under Media in the sidebar. Now, you should be able to see iPhoto with all its events. When you click on an event and "Open" it, you should get all the photos of that event in the project bin.

Adobe Photoshop Elements License valid for how many family computers ?

I know Apple Appstore Version of Elemtents is a little "limited" in Usage (no Organizer), but is allowed to be installed and used on up to 5 family computers.
Bought Photoshop Elements 12 last year online at Adobe Online Store.
On how many computers am I allowed to install, activate and use this version ?
Is it possible to use/install the software on WIN and OSX the same time ?

I doubt that there is multiplatform serial key available for Photoshop Elements 13.
It is either for Windows or Mac.
Elements is sold as a cross-platform license.

Photoshop Elements 10 from Best Buy - incorrect Redemption code

I was just given this Photoshop Elements 10 as a gift, and I followed the directions to get my serial number.... peeled the sticker off of the back of the box from Best Buy, entered the redemption code, only to be told the code is invalid. SO, I am unable to get a serial number to install this program. Even online support told me it was an incorrect number. So it's either a misprint, or as one phone support agent said last night "it's Best Buys fault".... Today I've been on hold for nearly an hour waiting for someone to answer the phone.... any ideas what to do outside of hoping tech support can finagle me a new number?

Do you have the invoice for the purchase made at best buy?
On the invoice, you will see a number listed as the "Serial Number".
Please contact support and provide that number and they will be able to resolve your issue.

Not quite. Keywords are written to metadata when you write the tags, you do not write the categories or sub-catagories, which is what determines the hierarchy.
(Library>New Folder Ctrl Shft N) and browse to the Folder (eg. My Photos/Adobe/Digital Camera Photos). Accept default choices, unless you want to do some global changes. It will bring all photos in and the sub folders as well. If you have already done this without writing the tags, write the tags and import again. It should only grab the changed metadata.
If not, delete the folder from lightroom (This does not delete the files from disk.)and re import.

Are you just starting with PSE and no previous experience? If so I sympathise because I found the Adobe Help function very frustrating and unhelpful because it is features based rather than functionality in grades of expertise.
Start with tutorials on the Organiser work space and then Editor work space to familiarise yourself with the functions of the work spaces. However be aware that the you will not grasp full functionality until you have used PSE for a while.
If you are starting out wanting to process images then I found the concept of "workflow" the most useful way to approach PSE. That is;
Import images from camera
Sort images into ones worth processing. I use my camera's software to do this. Use a star rating. (PSE recognises this).
Import to PSE for processing
Process RAW images (if applicable).
Process converted images (PSD of TIFF probably the best). Use guided edit to start with.
Save processed images to JPEG for printing.

I don't understand how elements organizer and adobe photoshop elements relate - how/where do I save edited photos? I tried to save them on my hard drive and the result was a 65 MB file!!! Not sure what I'm doing wrong :/ - maybe I'm saving the entire folder every time instead of just an individual photo?

There is no standard field for faces. To transfer information you must put it in the standard place that the new program will use. That does not exist for faces. One work around would be to use keywords. You include the available metadata in a photo by checking all if the boxes when you export the photo(s). What the receiving program is determined by the authors of that program. All iPhoto can do is write what it offers to the IPTC & EXIF fields which it will

I have purchased a new laptop and need to transfer my Adobe PhotoShop Elements to my new computer. How can I do that I have the disk.

Just install it on the new machine and use the serial number to activate it. You are allowed to have two activated installations, so if you want to you can leave it on the old machine as a backup. If you want to removce it or otherwise disable it on the old machine then open it and choose Help -> Deactivate.
