Photoshop Elements 7.0 migration to Lightroom 5

I currently use PS Elements 7.0 on a PC running Windows XP. My catalog has about 32,000 images in it which are tagged and organized. I obviously do not want to lose that organizational structure which took a long time to establish when I move to a new platform.
I am planning on migrating to a new iMac running OS X Mountain Lion with Lightroom 5 and am looking for the best way to accomplish this. I have read that Lightroom will support photo and data import from PSE 6 through 10 in Windows, but only PSE 9 through 10 in Mac OS. What is the best way to proceed with this upgrade? I can see three options:
1. Install Lightroom 5 on the old PC and perform the data import from PSE 7 to LR 5 there, then install LR5 on the Mac and migrate the LR data to the Mac.
2. Upgrade PSE 7 to PSE 10 on the PC, transfer the PSE 10 and data to the Mac, and then install LR5 on the Mac and migrate the data.
3. Transfer PSE 7 and data from the PC to the Mac, then install LR5 on the Mac and try the data migration (don't like this one!)
Any input on best/easiest approach? Thanks!

Lightroom 5 will not install on WIndows XP.
So that's not an option.
I have not heard that the Mac version of Lightroom can only import PSE9 and PSE10 catalogs; and I am highly skeptical. In fact, I believe your statement is incorrect. Can you provide a link to where you heard this?
If I were you, I'd separate the "move to the Mac", from the issue of upgrading the PSE7 catalog to a LR catalog. You are just asking for problems if you combine these two. Once things are in Lightroom and working properly, you can move to the Mac.
So, what I would do, is install LR3 (a trial version) on your Windows XP computer, and upgrade the PSE7 catalog to an LR3 catalog. Now that everything is in Lightroom, you should be able to move everything to the Mac, relink if necessary, then upgrade to LR5.

  • How to use Photoshop Elements 11 Image Tags in Lightroom 4.4

    Hello,
I would like to filter my Lightroom catalog by people in the photo. This could be done manually in Lightroom using metadata, however, Photoshop Elements 11 Organiser has an auto-analyse feature that does this automatically and creates Image Tags for all identified people. How do I use the Photoshop Elements 11 Organiser Image Tags in Lightroom 4.4?
    I have tried:
Created image tags for identified people. These are listed in the Image Tags section of the main workspace and can be used within Photoshop Elements 11 Organiser to filter on people using Search and People features.
    Updated metadata within Lightroom
Searched for tags in all metadata fields using Library Filters
I have been unable to find any mention of these Image Tags in the file metadata - perhaps they only exist in the Photoshop Elements 11 Catalog? If so, does anybody have a best practice for transferring this information between Photoshop Elements 11 and Lightroom 4.4?
    Thanks in advance,
    David

Yes you can open multiple images into PSE from LR. But actually there is no great advantage in using Lightroom for Photomerge as the export copies are already created in the Library but the saved copy will be the merged version which LR will know nothing about, and which would need to be imported to the library separately.
I would personally start from Expert Mode in PSE11 and then use:
    File >> Open
Navigate directly to the folder and select the images you want and click open.
If they are raw files they will open up in camera raw and will already have the light room adjustments included, if the metadata has been saved to file in Lightroom.
Click select all (top left) and then ensure the image depth is set to 8 bits using the drop down menu at the bottom of the dialog. Then click the open images button (bottom right) to send them all into PSE.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 and migration

I just got a new iMac (desktop), and plan to migrate the Adobe Photoshop ELements 11, that I bought earlier this year and installed on my old imac, to this new one.
The old one was running OS 10.5.8-- Mountain Lion, and the new one is running OS Mavericks.
Will I be able to migrate the Photoshop Elements 11 program and immediately begin using it on my new imac-- or will I have to get a "key", and if so, what is that and how do I get it?
    thank you, diane

You need/want to install the program on the new machine - you do not want to migrate it (whatever that is - it sounds like you plan to copy it over - won't work).
If you installed the program on the older machine you needed a serial number (key) to do that.  You will need the same serial number to do the same on the new machine.  If you registered the software when you put it on the old machine, the serial number might be available via your Adobe account online.  If you purchased a disc to install it then the serial number should be on the cd case.

  • Why wont Photoshop Elements 11 merge photos from Lightroom 4?

I'm having problems with automatically merging photos in Photoshop Elements 11 from Lightroom 4. I do my editing in LR4 and when I wish to merge photos (either into a pnaorama or HDR image) all that happens is that PSE11 opens, nothing else. I go through the 'Edit in..' option and click on the desirep option. I can send individual images to edit in PSE11 bun not merge.
I am running windows 8. I have set the external editing software to PSE11. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all the software. But still I'm having no luck with the programs working together and doing what I ask of them.  Why is this?

Yes you can open multiple images into PSE from LR. But actually there is no great advantage in using Lightroom for Photomerge as the export copies are already created in the Library but the saved copy will be the merged version which LR will know nothing about, and which would need to be imported to the library separately.

  • Transfer Photoshop Elements 4 in XP into Lightroom on a Mac?

Is it possible to transfer a few thousand photos from Photoshop Elements ver.4 on a PC with XP, into Lightroom on a Mac, without losing the filenames, captions and notes?
If do-able, would it be better to upgrade to Elements ver.6 before transferring into Lightroom?
Has anyone run into problems doing this?
    Thank you.

There is no real path at this time to upgrade a PSE 4 catalog to a Lightroom catalog. Existing versions of Lightroom allow upgrades of PSE 6 through PSE 11 catalogs.
The best you can do is have PSE 4 write the metadata to the photo files, and then import the photos into Lightroom. You will lose certain items in the PSE 4 catalog such as version sets, stacks, collections, notes and possibly a few other things. Your tags should be transferred (although even with tags there are some bugs)
Another option is to convert the PSE 4 catalog to a PSE 12 catalog (using the 30-day free trial of PSE 12) and then wait until LR supports conversion of PSE 12 catalogs, in which case you would not lose the aforementioned items (except notes still will not transfer)

  • Edits in Photoshop Elements 12 won't show up in Lightroom 5, edits in Photoshop Elements 12 won't show up in Lightroom 5

Everytime I Edit a photo in Elements 12 it won't save in Lightroom 5.5

That's because your Photoshop Elements edits aren't in the Lightroom catalog. If you modify an image in Photoshop Elements without sending it from Lightroom, there should be a little icon on the image indicating that the files don't match. You can, to read the adjustments from the disk.
Basically, you are running your workflow backwards. You should start in Lightroom, and then choose to "Edit in Photoshop Elements". Lightroom will send the image to Elements, and when you are finished in Elements the edited version should be in Lightroom.

  • Upgrading from Photoshop Elements 6.0 to Lightroom?

    Hi,
Is there any way to import a Photoshop Elements 6.0 catalog to Lightroom 1.3? I don't see it as an option in the Import dialog. I upgraded from PSE 4.0 to 6.0 a little while back, but I've decided it's too buggy and I'd like to give Lightroom a try, but I don't want to have to re-tag everything.
    Thanks,
    -Al

I made some progress on moving from PSE 6 on a PC to LR 1.3 on a Mac a couple weeks ago.
First make sure you have no tags with the same name anywhere in the hierarchy. If you do, rename them by adding "in <parent-category>" or some such. Then I exported the PSE 6 tags as an XML file. I used emacs and did regular expression replacement to remove the XML element names and unrelated tags. I was able to keep the hierarchy as a tab-indented list.
Use PSE 6 to burn all the uniquely named tags into your image files. Now is also a good time to rename or reorganize your image folders on disk if you want.
So, import the tab-indented list into LR. Then import the images into LR. Then if you had to uniqify any of your tags, you can now go through the LR tags and get rid of the "in <parent-category>" suffixes you may have added.
Now the metadata in the files on disk is a little different from that in the LR catalog. I guess it would make sense to use LR to burn the tags into the files again, but I haven't done that part yet.
One more gotcha is to make sure you don't have a tag with a comma in it, othewise LR will make two new tags at the top level for the two halves of your comma separated tag name. Vertical bar might be a problem too.
This process worked pretty well for me. Somehow a bunch of files that I had imported from another person's collection had the wrong capture time, so about 160 images appeared in the same day's folder. But out of the 12K or so photos that's the only problem I've found so far.

  • How do I install photoshop elements 10 and lightroom 3 on a mac when I previously had it on a windows?

Is there a way to do this? This is my first time using a mac so I'm a little lost.

You'll need the serial numbers for both software titles. No-one here can help you with those.
If you have no idea where they are, try

  • Editing with Photoshop Elements?

I'm very interested in purchasing Lightroom for managing and performing basic photo developing. I've seen references to using the full-blown Photoshop program for more in-depth image editing, and would like to know if it's possible to use Photoshop Elements instead, as I already have it, and cannot possibly justify spending the amount of money on Photoshop that it costs.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Adjustment Brush Tool or Graduated Filter Tool in Camera Raw for Photoshop Elements 12?

Is there an Adjustment Tool or Graduated Filter Tool in Camera Raw for Photoshop Elements 12?

Those are Lightroom tools for those who don't want to use a regular pixel editor like Photoshop or Elements which have much more powerful tools to do that.
The idea with the reduced set of feature in the ACR version of Elements is that features available in Elements are not necessary in ACR. You need to use the Elements editor more frequently than if you are working with Lightroom.

I purchased a bundle deal of photoshop elements 13 and premier and lightroom 5 and downloaded them once successfully with adobe help then I ended up having to factory reset my computer and lost them and now I need to download them again.  I went into my account at adobe and found my purchase and went to download and I got jscript the number 413 up in the left hand corner and a message saying the header is to large or something like that.  I have started a photography business and this is not good for me just starting out.  I need to get referred to other customers but I need these to do a fast turn around.

  • New Mac: Why are CC and Photoshop Elements not working when Lightroom and Reader are fine

Last week I changed computers (swapping an old Mac for a 13-in MacBook Pro Retina running OSX Yosemite 10.10.3. I copied all my data over to the new machine using Migration Assistant.
All programs work fine (including my copy of Lightroom 3 and Reader XI). But my CC and Photoshop Elements 10 do not. I have tried uninstalling both, but whenever I try to reinstall PE10 from its disk or download it just stops almost at the end. I then I get an "initiation failed" message, along with a request to download the now defunct "Support Advisor" app!
I cannot download Adobe Application Manager, or the CC desktop app either - for the former I get an "initiation failed" message, along with the "download Support Advisor" app" message again! For the latter I get a message saying "Adobe Creative Cloud Is Needed to Resolve this problem - however it is missing or damaged." Then I get a message and a link to download Creative Cloud. Then when I've downloaded it and I click on the installer... it runs for a bit and then I get the message again: "Adobe Creative Cloud Is Needed to Resolve this problem - however it is missing or damaged." And I get a prompt and link to download the CC app. Guess what happens next? And so it goes on. And on and on, in a tedious circle.
This is incredibly annoying and frustrating as I have work to do! Anyone have any ideas what's happening?
    Cheers

do not use migration to install adobe programs.
you should uninstall and clean whatever you've done, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Lightroom 2 and Photoshop Elements 6 Organiser

    Hi:-)
I have had a look at a friend's set up with Lightroom and CS3, and I have decided to use Lightroom myself.
However, at present I do not use, (and do not intend to use!) CS3, and instead use Photoshop Elements 6.0. My editing skills are limited, and Elements offers what I need for my RAW files. I prefer the workflow and categorising facilities of Lightroom, which is why I am buying it.
My question is, can I easily convert my existing PSE 6.0 catalog into Lightroom, or perhaps it will automatically subsume it? I would prefer to discontinue the PSE Organiser, but retain the Editor function. I think they are 2 separate programs, but would welcome anybody's opinion as to whether this is likely to cause me problems.
    Many thanks
    Alan

  • How to install Lightroom and Photoshop Elements from my old pc to my new pc?

I have a new pc and want to install Lightroom 5.7 and Photoshop Elements 12 from my old pc to the new one.

For LR here is a useful link:
    http://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/
There is also a video tutorial which covers moving a LR catalog to a new computer:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/how-to-migrate-lr-to-an other-computer/
For Elements you can simply install the application and then set up the Elements Editor for external editing in the LR Library prefs. I’m assuming you won’t be using Oranizer as well as LR. That can lead to confusion and broken links unless you are very disciplined.
If you do intend to use Organizer the method is backup and restore, starting with an Organizer backup on the old PC.
