Photoshop Elements 8 won't install/run properly

I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and have tried to install it 3 times now.  I contacted cust svc and was told to start a "web case" to avoid the $40 fee for installation assistance and trouble shooting via e-mail.  Got a "response" saying that the only free assistance was using this forum.  I am not computer savvy so please bear with me if I do not use the correct computer terms.  (I hope the message comes across clearly and appreciate any help anyone can give me.)  I have installed every time from the dvd with the serial number.  The first time I downloaded the software it was obviously not running correctly.  Uninstalled and created a second user account to prevent anything on my main user acct on my computer from getting in the way of the install.  The secind time it downloaded more of the functions seemed available, but it still was not correct.  Uninstalled and reinstalled again and same boat.  The "organize" and "edit" buttons on the welcome screen are there but only the "organize" one opens.  The "edit" button says "launching editor" but it never does.  The welcome screen also says "gathering user info" or something like that, but never brings up my adobe account.  Any help/suggestions?

Try resetting the PSE preferences by
   1. Close Elements.
   2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Edit.
   3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall. make sure if anti-virus is blocking the application, then you are checking the same. Also you are using PSE as a admin on yur machine.
If above does`nt resolves the issue try:
Go to c:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
try and let me know your comments.

  • Photoshop Elements won't install on Windows 8

First & foremost, I'm incredibly irritated that my Photoshop Elements 6 won't install on my new Windows 8 laptop. (I did the right thing: uninstalled from the old laptop before wiping the drive to get it ready for resale.)  And now, instead of getting true & real support from Adobe, I'm directed to a user Forum.  BS!  Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE consumer support!!!!  I will NEVER AGAIN purchase an Adobe product.  Of course, this is no slam against other Adobe users on the Forum - it's just that Adobe needs to take a stronger ownership  of its problems - they should NOT let all of us swirl around and find answers to their problems.

Photoshop Elements 6 is ancient software. It may or may not run under Windows 8. I am sure you could have paid for customer technical support for your issue, but it might be that you still would have been told that it was not compatible or that it was a untested combination. Adobe stops giving installation support on older versions after the new version comes out. If you post in the Photoshop Elements forum you may find other users that have or have not been able to install Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows 8. You were actually given great support to visit the forums, since our collection of users have much more experience than many people that work in Adobe Technical Support.

  • Photoshop Elements won't install

Had an older computer with Photoshop Elements installed on it.  The computer bit the dust, and a new one was purchased.
I have tried loading up PE from the original CD, but when it starts to load, a window opens up labeled "Severe" with the message that Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater is required, and the installation aborts.  The version of IE that is running on the computer is the most recent, well above 4.0!
The version of Photoshop Elements is not indicated on the box or the CD or the User Guide!  The copyright date on the User Guide is 2001.  I don't know if this is the first version of Elements or not.
Any ideas why I cannot load the program onto the new computer?  (Running Windows 7 Home Premium)

As long as your hard drive doesn't have more than 1 TB of free space, you can unistall internet explorer 10 by
going to Start>Control Panel>Programs>View installed updates, find Windows Internet Explorer 10 on the list, click on Unistall and then restart windows 7.
(after a system restart that should revert to Internet Explorer 9)
Install photoshop elements 1, go to Windows Updates, check for updates and install Internet Explorer 10.

  • Photoshop Elements won't install on Windows 8 - Error must have IE 4.0 or higher

When I try to install Photoshop Elements 1.0.1 on a Windows 8 64 bit computer, it says I must have IE 4.0 or higher and I have IE 10 installed. How do I get Photoshop Elements 1.0.1 to install.

Microsoft advises that all versions of PSE except versions 1, 3, 5 & 6 will work with Windows 8.
    Microsoft Windows 8 compatibility.

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Editor and see if you can launch the program directly from the desktop.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New à Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Editor application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    C: à Program Files à Adobe à Photoshop Elements 9
Within the Photoshop elements 9 folder find PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe (with the blue icon)
Select that file and click Next.
    Then click Finish.
You should now be able to launch by double clicking on the new desktop icon, bypassing the welcome screen.

  • Is it safe to uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 after installing Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?

Is it safe to uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 after installing Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?  I just upgraded from 10 to 12 and wanted to know if it is safe or if there would be any issues with uninstalling and removing Adobe Photoshop Elements 10.

Yes you can, if you are happy with the way PSE12 is running.
However both apps will happily co-exist, and there is no duplication as both use the same images on your hard drive.
PSE10 also has some features now removed from PSE12 as Adobe transitions towards 64 bit applications. See my PSE12 first look link:

  • Photoshop Elements 4 to install

I've got a 17" iMac 1,83Ghz Intel Core Duo and running Tiger 10.4.10 and want to get Photoshop Elements 4 to install, but the specifications on the adobe and apple website say that it requires a minimum G4 processor, and Intel processors require Rosetta? Can anyone help? Do I need to buy Rosetta, can I use Photoshop Elements on my iMac without it?

Welcome to the discussions, nirof. It should install just fine, but you may need to create a new account to use for the install. Try with your regular admin user account first, and if you have a problem create a new admin user, install, then delete the new account.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 Silent install not that silent

    Hi,
After following the Silent Install Instructions here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/silent-install-instructions-photoshop-element s-1.html it still is not fully silent.
As mentioned in the KB article you need to create a application.xml.override file that is said to supress the Eula but it still shows up.
The actual install of the software is silent but on first start it shows the ElementsOrganizer EULA then makes you select a Country/Region and then shows the Photoshop Elements 11 EULA.
Is there any way that we can supress both of the EULA's and automatically mark Australia as the Country/Region??

    @99jon,
That did help out alot. In the end I added Country=12 on to the end of my install command which is the country code for Australia.
I also added in another line in to both of the application.xml.override file which supressed the EULA's
         <Data key="EULA">Suppress</Data>
I also used this method for a silent uninstall which might help other users
    Uninstall PSE-10 in silent mode
Open the command prompt in the administrator mode.
(Windows XP) Choose Start > Run. Enter cmd in the Run window, and press OK.
(Windows 7 and Windows XP) Click Start (Windows-Logo), and type "cmd". Press [Shift]+[CTRL]+[ENTER].
Run the following command to uninstall Photoshop Elements.Verify that the Photoshop Elements 10 folder has been removed from the Program Files folder after running the command.
      start /wait Msiexec /x { EE549AF9-8FAA-4584-83B2-ECF1BC9DC1FF} NOT_STANDALONE=1 /qn
After the uninstallation is complete, run the following command to uninstall Elements Organizer. Verify that the Elements 10 Organizer folder has been removed from the Program Files folder after running the command.
    start /wait Msiexec /x {22D3A614-482C-444A-932C-9DA1B8ECDFD2} NOT_STANDALONE=1 /qn
After Elements Organizer has been uninstalled, run the following commands to uninstall STIs (ACR, APE, ESTK). The following procedure assumes that you are using the C drive as your boot drive. Modify the command accordingly if you are using a different drive.
      cd "Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\DWA"
    setup.exe --mode=silent --deploymentFile="C:\Program Files\Common Files\
    Adobe\Elements10STIForPSE\ElementsSTIInstaller.remove.xml"
    Finally, run the following command:
    rmdir /s "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Elements10STIForPSE"

I just installed Photoshop elements 11. Install of the application was fine. When I clicked to open Organizer, I received a messaging indicating that it was out of date and coudl not be upgraded. How can I address/fix this?

Thank you for the replies. I'm afraid neither one helped.
kglad, I never get to any error code so your link can't help.
Jeff, I looked at your link and
    a) again, I never make it to an error code
    b) I'm definitely connected to the internet
    c) I can access secure sites; I tried connecting with the firewall disabled and the same thing happened, so I don't believe it's a firewall issue.
    d) I don't understand the checking host sites - this is far too complicated for a novice user. It should not be this difficult to get a software running. I don't want to mess with these kinds of settings.
    e) I followed the steps for the global sign in root CA and my screen looks the same as the picture here.
I can't activate the software offline as there is no option to generate a response code when I click on having trouble connecting to the internet. All I get is a prompt to change my password.
If the problem were simply connectivity from my computer, then why does the box completely freeze? Can't cancel, can't click on the little X to close it, can't right click on the box to close it. I have to reboot every single time. I know others have had the same problem and I haven't found any answers that I could apply.
I don't understand for the life of me why Adobe does not have TELEPHONE customer support. I have spent 2 days on this, this is crazy.

Can Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 be installed on my iPad 2?
    Jim Timble

Sorry, Photoshop elements is a program for Windows  or Mac so it will not run on your iPad. There are some Adobe apps on iPad, and iPhone such as PSexpress and Revel that can edit photos.

I have photoshop 6 on a dead pc laptop with windows XP.  Have a pc laptop that has been upgraded from Vista 64 bit (where phootshop 6 wouldn't install) to windows 7 professional 32 bit (clean install).  Photoshop still won't install. Also having reinstallation issues with pse6 on this same pc.  Pse6 was installed and working on vista 64bit version of the OS, now won't install on rebuilt windows professional 7 32bit (keeps giving me serial number not valid errors).  I'm not trying to pirate these programs.  Just want to reinstall them.

    you need,
Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 4, 5, or 6a, or Windows Millennium
    Microsoft Windows 98/Millennium/2000/NT 4.0 (Service Pack 4, 5, or 6a required)

  • Can you download a 32 bit installer for photoshop elements 12 to install on a 64 bit system (windows 7)

can you download a 32 bit installer for Photoshop elements 12 to install on a 64 bit system (windows 7). Thanks in advance

yes, if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

  • Do you need to uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 before installing Elements 12?

Is it best to uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 before installing Elements 12 or not?
If so, how do you save and transfer all Albums, Folders and Tags?
If not, do they transfer automatically?

Can't get Photoshop Elements 11 to install.

... Adobe Support Advisor message "Inspection could not identify any issues. Please contact Adobe Support for further assistance. http://www.adobe.com/support."
... .... So far I have downloaded twice, to two different folders (Desktop and my default download folder). Neither option has worked.  Please help!  I'd like to download Premiere Elements 11, but with this kind of installation problem on PSE11, it seems a second program may be as much of a problem to try to install.

As Mylenium has stated all we have is a very general error message at this point so it is impossible to advise you until we have additional details.  Please review your installation logs by following the steps listed in Troubleshoot install using logs | Elements - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-install-using-logs-elements.html.

If you click the link in my first post in this thread, then click "still need help? Contact us" it takes you to a page that looks exactly like the page where you started, but isn't. Select PSE for the program you want help with, click "Activation and Signing In" for the problem area and you will see this:
