Photoshop Elements 9.0...backup question

I have all of my pictures backed up on external hard drives but I do not know how to back up the thumbnails that are on the Photoshop program and include the keyword tags, albums, and captions.  Does anyone know how to backup this information on the Photoshop program itself?  I have already exceeded my backup capabilities online in the photoshop site itself.  Thank you.

I assume that you know about Catalogs in Photoshop Elements and these catalogs can be backed up with all the Tags, Albums, Thumbs, Metadata etc..
Just go to file Menu and there is an option to backup in CD/DVD or Hard Disk

My computer died and I am trying to install an older version of photoshop elements from a backup drive on a new computer.  I get the following error message " Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization information.  Help?

Just after double clicking or single clicking on the pse 2 shortcut hold down the Alt+Ctrl keys and keep holding the keys until you get a
Scratch Disk Preferences dialog and point the scratch disk to your portable hard drive and maybe that will work.

  • Photoshop Elements Serial Number Deactivation Question

I bought Photoshop Elements 8.0 a few years back and have been using it happily and successfully since. However, I have now run into a serial number activation problem that will not allow me to use the software. The error given is: "Our records indicate that this serial number has already been used to set up and activate Photoshop Elements 8.0 on two other machines, which is the maximum allowed."
Of course, it is simple enough to deactivate a computer if that computer is accessible, but therein lies the problem. One of the two machines that is taking up my activations is my old Macbook, which experienced a total motherboard failure in March 2-13. I restored onto my new Macbook from a Time Machine backup, but when I did so, PSE required me to re-enter my serial number. This was easy enough, but it considers this new Macbook to be a third activation and thus will not allow me to use the software. And, of course, given that my previous Macbook is dead and gone, I cannot access my old Macbook to deactivate the software there.
What can I do to solve this?
Computer specifications: Macbook Pro, 15" (bought 2013). Mac OS X Version 10.8.5. 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 processor with 8 GB of RAM. The software is Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer 10 backup freezes at 49%.

I have a large collection (~80,000) photos.  I have been trying (unsuccessfully) for a week to back up my collection.  Every time it freezes at 49%.  I did all the steps here: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-catalog-backup-conversion-elemen ts.html  Still freezing. Then I did a complete disk scan/repair and tried all the steps again.  Still freezing.  I am running Windows 7 on a powerful machine.
I want to move my collection to a new hard drive, so I really do need to use the bulit in backup.  What else can I try?

    thor_x9 wrote:
I was able to do the backup of just the photos, what can I try with the videos?
    That's very good news.
Here are a few ideas :
    - from your original catalog, create a copy leaving only the video media types just like what you have done with photo files.
    - generally offending video file types are not with 'common' video formats, rather with cell phone formats.
    - There may be 'corrupted' files, but non recognized formats are probably more common
-To have a look at the different formats (file extensions), look at the total number of video files and take a note of it.  Use the search by file name, 'files containing' and select a file extension visible in the browsing space (avi, mov...). Take a note of the number of files in each category.
For each category, select all and hide the files. Continue with the next  category and so on until nothing is visible.
You'll have all your files extensions with the number of files in each category.
Now, un-hide all files and make a second copy of your video catalog.
Try a backup of the video files after having deleted one of the categories. I would start with the less common video formats.
Try this until the backup works ok : you'll know the offending format.
A variant of this method would be to select the videos by camera type rather than by format type.
Something you could do with the video catalog until you have found the offending format or corrupted file(s) : you could try move (from the organizer menu) all the video files somewhere on a new empty master folder as a standard (non PSE backup). You might get significant messages in the process. Be aware that this 'move' may be impossible to 'undo' in case of a problem. A safer variant would be to 'export' instead of 'move'.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 Commercial Use Questions

I am planning to record a youtube video of me doing a "speedpaint" video as they're called by many on the internet where I will paint something using Photoshop Elements 8 and am wondering if it's ok to show Photoshop's User Interface in the video... And also if it's ok for me to "monetize" the speedpaint video of me painting with youtube's ad revenue service, the focus is on me painting the video, so i am wondering what the official word on this is. I would also like to know if Photoshop Elements 8 can be used for commercial purposes, for instance if I create a painting or any kind of jpeg using Photoshop Elements 8, will I be able to benefit commercially off of my artwork by selling the digital artwork? I am confused now because of something I read. Any help would be much appreciated!

Well I'm just a random guy who happened to see your post on the Adobe forums. I don't work for Adobe so don't take my view as gospel.
What you're planning probably won't incur the wrath of Adobe but you won't know that until they decide to issue you with a cease-and-desist letter. I doubt that they will.
I've seen projects such as yours done countless times without incident. Doesn't make it OK and does not mean that Adobe condones it or gives any kind of permission to do so.
What is certain though is that you are definitely permitted to use Adobe software for commercial purposes ie. make money off it. Even students can do that with the Educational version.
The best contact method is http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
But, again, you won't get an official response to such questions.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 Online Backup

Evidently photoshop elements 8 automaticaly enabled auto backup into the free 2GB of online space at photoshop.com. When I noticed it backing up I stopped the backup and deleted the files on the pc but the online backup shows I have used 31 MB of space which are the photos it uploaded before I stopped it. Now I cannot delete those files. How can a user delete files once it does an online backup to photoshop.com?

This page from Help explains all about synchronization:

See the section "More options for Backup/Synchronization" for how to tell which photos are synchronized with Photoshop.com.
To delete a photo from your Photoshop.com account, log on in your browser to Photoshop.com.  Click My Library. Click the first thumbnail and shift-click the last thumbnail, selecting them all.  Click the Delete button at the bottom center of the window.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac Question about Opening Files

Hi. I somehow must have changed some settings in Photoshop Elements and I don't know how to change them back. Whenever I open an image, it opens at a size of 34.5% and the window is sized accordingly. When I change the view to Actual Pixels, the image gets bigger but the window stays the same size as before so I need to manually resize the window. Anyway, I don't know how I accidentally set these settings as the default. I'd like Photoshop Elements to open images at 100% and have the window size be the same. Does anyone know how I can fix it? Thanks.

Elements will open an image at the largest size it can so that the whole image fits in the Active Image Area. It's the same as Fit on Screen view.
You can make the Active Image Area larger by collapsing Panels and the Project Bin.
To get your window to resize with your photo you need to choose a Preference. Go up to the Photoshop Elements menu (Edit menu for Windows users) and choose Preferences > General and click on the box next to Zoom Resizes Windows. Click OK.
    Hope that Helps!

  • Photoshop Elements 8 Slideshow transition question

    Hi,
I'm creating a slideshow using Photoshop Elements 8 and can't seem to figure out how to have the pan/zoom effect per picture continue through my transitions.  I was able to successfully have pan/zoom work through my dissolves when I created a slideshow in PS Elements 7... but now it's been awhile since I've done it and I'm now using PS Elements 8.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Leann

Maybe I'm not seeing what you are... but when I'm in PS 8 editor, I see that I can change from a fade to a wipe, etc.  But I still don't see a button that will make the photo continue to pan/zoom through the transition.  What happens is the outgoing picture freezes when the next picture starts to fade in with the pan/zoom.   I know I did it in past versions... just don't remember how I did it.  Am I making sense?  I just want to have the incoming and outgoing pictures continue to pan/zoom throughout the transitions.  Maybe I just haven't followed your instructions fully?

  • Photoshop elements 5.0 backup problem

I have upgraded from vista to wind 7 and have been unable to do backups since .Elements 5.0 claims that cd drivers are not installed
(they are) and work for everything else. Photoshop asks to re-instsll software, ive done this but still the same .i may need to consider upgrade to latest version but still need a full backup . this is a large catalouge and i do have copys of all the pics but to re build the cat from these would take me weeks.

Where are you taking the backup on? Try taking backup either on internal hard drive or external hard drive, flash drive. Please let me know the observations.

  • Photoshop Elements (6 thru 12) questions

    1) Updates for 6, 7, 9, & 12 on Mac 10.7 &/or Windows 7Pro 64:  will the most recent updates include all the earlier updates for that version?  If not how do I know where to begin?
    2) How many copies of each version are you allowed?  I have a desktop with PSE 9 & 12.  I have a Mac laptop with Parallels.  The Mac side has PSE 6 & 9.  I would like to put PSE 9 on the newly installed Win 7 side.  I don't know if Adobe counts the Mac/Parallels installs as one or 2 versions.
    3)  My installation of PSE 12 has a white background (rather than a zone 3 grey) which makes it totally unusable.  I have been told that it should be able to change it to a background shade  similar to my PSE 7 &/or 9 - so I can actually use it.  I can't find a way to do it.  Please give the step by step procedure.
    Thanks,
    Bob

Thanks for the answers to the first 2 questions.
As too no. 3:  My monitors are all calibrated.  I just compared the screens on PSE 9 & 12.  The photo screen on both are very close to 18% grey, or zone 5.  The boarder on PSE 12 is a bit lower than the 90% white side of a gray card, maybe 75 to 80%.  The boarder on PSE 9 & 7 are more like a zone 3 (i.e. deep gray).  As any photographer, painter, graphic artist, or moth knows the eye is drawn to the lightest & brightest color.  In the case of PSE 12 that would mean your eye is drawn AWAY from the photographic image & towards the boarder.  Nobody who knew what they were doing would incorperate that into the design of an editing tool.
There has to be some way to make PSE 12 useable.  Until then I'm pretty much stuck with 9, & maybe 7.
So can I, or anyone else who got PSE 12, do to correct this problem.
    Bob

  • Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac questions

    1. Installing: I opened the PSE folder on the disc and ran Setup.app. Should it be obvious that this is the way to install? The Read Me file on the disc is not at all clear about this.
    2. I left PSE 6 in the Applications folder when installing PSE 8, but now want to remove PSE 6. There doesn't seem to be an uninstaller for PSE 6, as there is for PSE 8. OK to just drag the PSE 6 folder to the trash, or will this leave lots of unneeded components on my computer?

NO! don't drag PSE 6 to the trash. You must use the uninstaller, which is much less in evidence in PSE 6 (thank goodness they did better with PSE 8). The uninstaller is the installer, only when you get to the screen where you chose  Install Components, you choose Remove Components instead. Trashing PSE 6 like a normal mac package app leads to all sorts of problems.

  • Photoshop elements 6.0 Editing question

How do I make one document into two seperate documents?
    thank you for you help

If you mean you have two or more photos on one document then use Image<Divide Scanned Photos.
If you mean you want to make a layer into it's own image, right click on layer name in the layer's palette and select "Duplicate layer" from the context menu. Select "New"; name the new document; click okay.
Note: You can split a document into layers by selecting the area you want on it's own layer (rectangular marquee works good for this), then press Ctrl + j if on PC or Cmd + j if on Mac to lift  a copy of the selected area onto it's own layer.  Be sure you are on the layer containing the image data to be copied onto it's own layer before pressing the shortcut keys. You can then use the right click duplicate layer method listed above to create a new document from each layer you desire to be a separate document. You could copy/paste or drag and drop but I like this method as I don't have to create a new document as this dialog does it for me.
If you mean, you just want to copy a document use Image<Duplicate.

  • Photoshop elements online storage

I do not want your online storage. I have my own backup solutions, and the last thing i need is another subscription fee to forget about. Every time I load Photoshop Elements, I am first confronted with a window telling me to buy more storage. I will NEVER buy your storage. This sales pitch is highly annoying and unprofessional.
My question is, how do I disable online storage? Somehow during the install process, Photoshop Elements chose to backup my pictures. It quickly hit the 2gb cap (google offers free 5gb, as does dropbox, and ubuntu ONE, and others I am sure).  Now every time I start, I get a warning that my storage is full, and the only solution offered is for me to buy more storage.
I cannot for the life of me find out how to disable the online storage. I go into the preferences, and find the "Elements Backup/Synchronization Services", wherein I see a single option.  The box for "Backup/Sync" has been unchecked. I see no other way of adjusting the state of backup.
What I expected was for Elements to create a folder in My Pictures, which would contain files i want to backup. This is how Google Drive, Dropbox, and others work.  Something tells me that Adobe, in its infinite wisdom, has obfuscated this data.
One solution I have come up with is to delete Elements, delete my adobe account, and then reinstall without entering my details.

I figured it out. The answer is to ignore all the links Photoshop Elements offers. None of them lead to the right page. Go to photoshop.com and re-enter your credentials there. Within this page, you can "organize my library". Contrary to what it says, this only affects your online library. In an effort to milk the Instagram trend, photoshop has created a confusing roundabout way of sharing photos. Apparently the miriad ways of sharing photos which have been tried and tested over the past decade are, in Adobes eyes, insufficient. Clearly, the world needs yet another medium by which to share photos. Apparently Adobe realized millions of people were viewing pictures without recieving their sales pitch.
Anyhow, once I found my online library, I was able to delete it with relative ease. I considered downloading copies of these pictures just in case the originals had been corrupted or lost. Fortunately Adobe made that simple by denying me access. If I want to download the pictures which legally belong to me, I have to pay adobe for some kind of premium account.
It is no wonder adobe products have been among the top pirated software over the past decade.

  • Pls help - Photoshop Elements crashes when switching media types

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 on a brand new HP Pavilion system running Vista, 9 GB of RAM.  I then imported a catalog with ~18,000 photos and tags from Photoshop Elements v6 via backup from original system and restore to new HP system.  Worked like a charm.  Now I have the catalog open, and when I click on "View -> Media types -> anything else (Video, PDF, whatever)" irrespective of what I select, Photoshop Elements crashes.  The error message states, "Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Organizer) has stopped working.  A problem cause the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  Note this also happens when I use Ctrl-1 or other shortcuts.
Has anyone else seen this?  I literally powered up the HP today, and loaded Elements and Premiere today, so it's not likely due to old software (eg I did not install Photoshop Elements 6).
    Thanks all!
    Ed

Please delete the folder  C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\8.0\Organizer and relaunch to see if the problem vanishes.

  • Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements missing in control panel.

I installed both Photoshop Elements-4 & Premier Elements-4 and used Photoshop Elements-4 for a couple of years.  I then upgraded the photo portion by installing Photoshop Elements-6.  Three questions:
    1.  Was Photoshop Elements-4 automatically uninstalled when I installed Photoshop Elements-6?
    2.  I deleted the Photoshop Elements-4 icon from my desktop.  Is this okay to do since I no longer use Photoshop Elements-4?
    3.  No Photoshop Programs appear in the control panel.  (I was looking there to see if both Versions 4 and 6 were listed.)  Where are these located?  How do I place the program back on the list?  Do I need to?

    1.  Was Photoshop Elements-4 automatically uninstalled when I installed Photoshop Elements-6?
No.  Installing a new version of PSE doesn't interfere with an old one.
    2.  I deleted the Photoshop Elements-4 icon from my desktop.  Is this okay to do since I no longer use Photoshop Elements-4?
    Yes.
    3.  No Photoshop Programs appear in the control panel.  (I was looking there to see if both Versions 4 and 6 were listed.)  Where are these located?  How do I place the program back on the list?  Do I need to?
Do you mean PSE 4 and 6 don't appear in Control Panel > Add Or Remove Programs (XP) or Control Panel > Programs And Features (Vista)?  If they don't appear, then part of your Windows registry has likely been corrupted.  However, there's no reason to worry about not being able to uninstall PSE 4 unless you really, really need the relatively small amount of disk space (about 400 MB).
