Photoshop Elements Catalog 10 Restore

I created a backup of my old catalog on an external drive, "G:" to my old computer.
My new computer lists the drive as "F:".  I did a Restore, and told Catalog to put it in a new location.
After the Restore, I see no images.  File names are there, and tags, and my thumbnails for the tags are in the pane on the right, but I see no images for my photos.  When I click on Properties, Catalog is still pointing to the "G:" drive, and says the dirve is not present.  No duh!  I told Catalog to put it elsewhere.
How do I get my images connected, so I can see them, and use Catalog as it is supposed to be used?
Thanks

Michael,
Thanks for the response. I have spent hours trying to get this to work.
I had Photoshop Elements/Premier, with no version number on the box.  I
got it about 6 years ago.  It was installed on a Windows XP machine,
which recently started having problems. I had an externaI drive (which
that computer knew as "G:\", which had all of my files (including the
photo files folder structure) on it.  I did a Backup of Elements, to the
external drive before my old computer had to be replaced.
I got a new machine, a Windows 7 box.  I also purchased Photoshop
Elements/Premier v 10, and installed that on my new machine.  Since my
new machine has a much-larger drive than the old machine, I copied my
entire file-structure of my photos onto the C: drive of my new machine.
I have all of my files there, in the same structure as my old external
drive (I had all of my files there).
I connected the external drive to my new machine, and it calls it
"F:\".  I launched my new installation of Catalog (v10), and told it to
do a Restore, to a new location. I did the Restore.  I took about 15
minutes to copy the image files, then said it was "converting", and took
another period of time.  It completed.
I could see my Tags structure, which I had added new tags and groups to
in the old Catalog.  All of that shows, and the thumbnails for the tags
display.  Seems fine, in that panel.
All of my image thumbnails in the Catalog itself, though, are blank.
There is a red circle with a vertical line through it (looks like an
electrical "Off" sign) in the upper-left corner of the window; a blue
Help icon, and a "picture" with the lower-right corner turned-up.
Nothing gives me a response when I click on it, even the "Help" icon.
I can see all of the files on my C: drive, just as I would expect.  I
don't want to have the files reside on F:.  I want them to reside on my
C: drive.  I don't want Catalog to look to the "G:\" drive as it does
now, so I don't want to re-name my "F:\" drive to "G:\".  I want Catalog
to look for the files on my C: drive, so I can backup my entire Files
folder structure to the external drive, which would overwrite anything
already on the external drive.
I also checked the serial number of the drives, and they are all very
different.
How do I re-direct the path to look at "C", instead of "G"?
Thanks,
Duane

  • View Adobe Photoshop Elements catalog with iPad?

I have 43K images in my Adobe Photoshop Premier v10 catalog...all of which have been organized into Albums (by year), rated (0-5 stars), and tagged with multiple keywords.
My Q is this:  is there an iPhone/iPad app which can connect to my NAS server or laptop and understand this Adobe Photoshop Elements cataloging for displaying images??
I want to know how my iPhone/iPad can become a device to showcase my images, and would love to show "all photos of Dad", or "Xmas 2012 album", etc...
    Thoughts?
    Thanks
    Mike

No. If you use windows you can send PSE albums to your ipad via itunes, but there isn't an app that can understand an organizer catalog per se.

  • How can I transfer my Adobe Photoshop Elements catalog from my pc to my mac?

What is the best way to move a Adobe Photoshop Elements catalog from a pc to a mac?

You do know the mac version of PSE has no Organizer?
You can use file>Write Tags and Properties to File(s) on your files in the organizer before sending them to your mac to write the tags into the file's metadata, which can be read by Bridge, iphoto, aperture, etc. on the mac. (It doesn't work for raw files and it doesn't always work, so do a couple of test files first.) You'll need to make tags for categories and albums, too, in order to be able to sort by those criteria again.

  • Option to Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog not available (LR5, PSE 12, Win 8)

Hi there. I have trial versions of both Photoshop Elements 12 and Lightroom 5.2 (trial licenses are both still active (i.e. not expired)). I'm looking to import my PSE12 catalog into Lightroom before I plunk down the money to buy it.
I cannot, however, locate the "File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog" option in LR5.
I may have originally installed LR 5 before installing PSE 12. So I uninstalled LR5 and reinstalled it. Still no luck - the option isn't there.
Any other ways to force LR5 to look for the PSE 12 catalog? Will LR5 even recognize a PSE12 catalog?
Your help is greatly appreciated - thanks!
    Note: Using Win 8.1

Unfortunately, there is no doubt that the conversion of PSE12 catalogs has been omitted. It's not the first time : I also had to wait for LR4 to be able to convert PSE11 files. We may hope that Adobe will acknowledge the fact, and possibly solve the problem for future versions of PSE.
Of course, it's not a priority for Adobe: the ability to convert PSE catalogs is mainly a sales argument to make the jump from the PSE Organizer to LR easier. Not so many cases, and anyway you can always write metadata to files in PSE and import later in LR. After the jump to LR, you rarely have more PSE catalogs to convert.
However, maintaining misleading update notes by Adobe is not a good point in favour of LR. I do consider that the ability for LR to convert PSE catalog was and still is a very smart demonstration of the ability to deal with database organizational systems. I also consider that once that conversion process is mastered, the update process for each new Elements version is not such a big deal.

  • Import multiple Photoshop Elements catalogs

    Hello folks,
I just imported one Photoshop Elements catalog from PSE6.0 into LR4 using "File:Update PSE catalog ...". That worked well.
As I'm using multiple PSE catalogs I then wanted to import the next one into LR4.
So I switched to the 2nd catalog in PSE to make it the current catalog in PSE and tried to follow the same procedure in LR4.
Alas, the menu entry "File:Update PSE catalog ..." in LR4 is now grayed out, so that I can't import the 2nd PSE catalog.
That would make it pointless to move from PSE to LR4.
Can it be that LR4 assumes, having imported one PSE catalog is enough? If yes, is there any way to overcome that?
My platform: W'7 64bit, PSE6.0, LR4.0, installs in German language, PSE catalogs located in a user selected folder
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    OMB
EDIT: I finally found out how to overcome that limitation myself:
    1. Close LR4
    2. Open LR preferences file "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs" in a text editor
2.a You'd better make a backup copy of that file before playing with it
    3. Locate the "Adobe_successfulUpgrades******" entry - in my case it started in line 5
    4. Delete that entry; important: make sure to delete all lines of this entry: the ones ending on a backslash and the closing ",
    5. Save and reopen LR4 -> the disabled menu entry is now available again

The CSH file simply stores a Custom Shape for Photoshop to re-use.
By its nature you can only have one active at any one time but you can view them all together in the drop-down from the Options Bar or in the Preset Manager.

  • Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog option is missing

The File Menu/Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog is missing on my version of LR5.  I've followed the suggested procedure to update the preferences files for both Elements 12 and Lightroom 5, but LR5 still does not recognize that I have an existing Elements 12 catalog.  I assume if it did the option would now be available?
This was the instruction I tried:

  • 'Upgrade Photoshop Elements catalog' menu item missing

    Hi,
I have been using PSE for many years and recently upgraded to PSE8 (and PRE8). In addition, I started playing with the LR3 Beta and realized that I wanted to migrate LR from PSE. I just bought LR3 and now want to import my PSE8 catalog into LR3. The Lightroom Help tells me that I should go to File - Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog (while in Library module), but this menu item is not showing up in my Lightroom... Is my LR3 not detecting my PSE8 catalog installation? How can I fix this?
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  • LR5 crashes when trying "Update Photoshop Elements Catalog" from PSE13

LR5 crashes after approx 3 minutes when trying "Update Photoshop Elements Catalog". I use PSE13, optimized and repaired several times. I get approx 10000 out of 30000 items into LR5 from PSE13

Per the user's guide, from the Library Module I: File > Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog
This brings up a dialog box that shows the most recently upgraded PSE catalog. Then, to quote the user's guide, "To choose a different PSE catalog, click the Elements drop-down menu."
There is no "Elements drop-down menu" within the dialog box to click on. The closest thing is an expand triangle opposite "Catalog info," but when clicked, that only displays more detail about the source PSE catalog I have already upgraded. There doesn't seem to be any way to browse to or select a second PSE catalog — which is what I'm trying to do.

  • Photoshop Elements 13 Restoring Catalog / Files Not Able To Be Restored

I backed up my catalog from an older Photoshop version using the backup to hard drive option.  Then I restored my catalog to Photoshop Elements 13 on a new computer, but had files not able to be restored.  Does this means they are in my catalog but missing links to the actual files or not in the catalog at all? & is there something I can do differently to try the restore again without this happening?  Thanks!

    Hi,
    See if this helps.
Convert Organizer catalogs for 64-bit versions | Photoshop Elements 13 or later

  • How can I access a Photoshop Elements catalog on an external hard disc from both: Mac and Windows PC

How can the directories and path be named, that catalog can access the same picture files.

That means you should have both your files and your catalog on the external drive, and you plug in your external drive alternatively to one or the other computer.
Are your picture files already on the external drive ? If they are, you only need to copy the catalog folder to the external drive, as explained later,
otherwise, simply do a backup/restore to the external drive, with the choice to restore on custom location.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/backup-restore-move-catalog-photoshop.html
(moving to the external drive is similar to moving to another computer)
    Moving the catalog :
First locate where your catalog folder is situated : menu help / system info.
Copy the whole folder to the external drive.
In the copied catalog, double click the catalog.pse12db file, that will open the organizer and the new catalog. It will appear in the 'custom location' section in the catalog manager.
Backup and restore solution : restore on 'custom location', that is to a new master folder created on the external drive.
The first time you are using the catalog on either computer, you'll have to use the catalog manager (file / catalog...) to browse to the external drive location of the catalog. After that, the location will be remembered in each computer.

  • Wrong Photoshop Elements catalog in iTunes to sync with iPhone

    Hi,
I am using windows XP, latestversion of iTunes and Photoshop Elements 5 (PSE5).
I use several catalogs, one per each company I work for, and one entirely for personal pictures. The personal pictures catalog is the one I want to have automatically synchronized with iPhone, however, even though it is the "active" catalog that opens by default in Photoshop Elements, iTunes detects an other catalog and I want to change this so iTunes refers to the correct catalog. I tried restarting the PC after loading the desired catalog in PSE5 and closing it, and iTunes still refers to one of my work catalogs that I don't wish to use.
Any clue how to do this.
I could of course, have iTunes point to a specific folder, export the images from my personal catalog to that specific folder and do so every time I need to add pictures to my iPhone. This involves doing the image export and transfer manually every time, instead of automatically having the desired images added to the iPhone during sync, after they were tagged in PSE5 with the appropriate tag.
    Thanks!

    Hi there.
Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, what is this and where can I find it? Finder Help had nothing to say about it, and Google just led me to this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1865
which strongly recommended me not to mess with it.
I really do need to make this old email account go away, I just need to make sure that I don't make the problem worse in the process. Thanks in advance for any help, just want to be extra careful here.

  • Import a 2nd Photoshop Elements Catalog into Lightroom 2.1?

    Okay Lightroom Gurus ...
On my old computer (Windows XP), I had several Photoshop Elements 5 catalogs, one of which was my main catalog, and the others were photos I hardly ever used. I imported the main catalog into Lightroom 2 just fine and have been running with it ever since.
Then, my old computer crapped out, I bought a new Windows Vista 64 computer, installed Lightroom 2.1, transferred the Lightroom catalog and continued along just fine.
But now, on my new computer, I want to import one of the other Photoshop Elements 5 catalogs (which still exists and still runs in PSE5 on the Vista 64 computer), but the command in Lightroom to do the import seems to have disappeared! I can't find it! Where did it go and how can I get it back? Is this a Vista 64 or Lightroom 2.1 issue (or is it me)?

Roy, I am 99% certain that importing PSE 7 catalog to LR 2 is not possible at this time. The release cycles of the products did not coincide for that to happen. However you can import from PSE 6 I believe.
I feel sure that this will be addressed soon........... but don't know when.

  • Photoshop Elements Catalog Conversion Stalls @ 37%

I recently upgraded to Photoshop Elements 11 from 10, but each time I try to convert the catalog, it stalls at 37%.  I don't get an error message, it just stops here (and I've tried letting it run for HOURS). Here's what the screen shows:
I have tried making sure iTunes is not running and that there are no other processes for older versions of PSE running.  I've restarted my computer, tried running the program as an administrator, and just tried re-doing the conversion.  It always stalls at the same spot, though.
I tried opening up PSE 10 so I could repair the catalog and make sure certain functions were turned off (like facial recognition), but PSE begins updating and then stalls at 100%.  I can't use the PSE 10 organizer at all because of this.  I'm thinking this is happening because some of the catalog has already been converted?  I don't know.  All I know is that I'm beyond frustrated.  I had issues when I updated to PSE 10, and I was hoping this upgrade might go more smoothly.
I did back up my PSE 10 catalog before I started all of this.  I like the new look/feel of PSE 11, and I'm excited to begin using it.  But, I have almost 55,000 photos, and I'm not going to start all over on my organizing/tagging/sorting. So, any help would be appreciated.  Oh, and BTW...I have a working knowledge of computers and the program, but I'm no computer expert. Thanks so much for your advice.

I see you have already tried the usual methods.
One thing that puzzles me is the screenshot with the file 'thumbs.5.cache'.
That file is the cache storing the thumbnails : it's an sqlite database just like the main catalog : catalog.pse11db.
Normally, when you 'optimize' the catalog, that cache file is rebuilt, but sometimes the only way to replace it is to delete it, and wait for the Organizer to rebuild it (several hours in your case...)
It would not hurt to do so in PSE10 before trying the conversion.
The conversion in PSE11 also converts (or make a copy ?) of the cache file.
In my tests, the conversions in PSE11 do work even if the cache file is missing, and even if there are missing files. So, trying to convert without the cache file and let the Organizer rebuild the thumbnails in PSE11 is possible.
    Edit:
I see 99jon was on the same track.

  • Import adobe photoshop elements catalog

I have migrated from PC Windows to iMac. I am wanting to convert my catalog file containing all tags of all images & photos that I used to store on PC. I have used Adobe Photoshop Elements thusfar to build catalogs, but Adobe does not support this freeware any longer. Is there a way to convert the Adobe catalog file (*.psa) into iPhoto or other Mac supported picture manager?

Bummer that it did not work as advertised. I think there are other threads on the same subject. Try search with words like Elements, keywords, tags, transfer, etc and see if you get anything useful. If you don't like searching just scan the lists back 6 months or so. Don't remember this being an issue in last 2 months. There is also the knowledgebase search, which I did not try.
One other thought before you do the above. Go to Edit>Preferences>Thumbnails (Bridge) and make sure there is a checkmark for "Keywords" in Details - additional lines of Metadata to add.
