Photoshop Elements Freezing on Attempt to Save to NAS

Hi,
I've just installed Photoshop Elements 11 on a Win 8 system and now whenever I try and save an edited JPEG back to the NAS, photoshop freezes, task status is not responding and it leaves thousands of ~psxxx.tmp files on the NAS.  Only way I can get out is using the Task Manager to kill it  .
Been using Elements 9 up till recently without any problems so am now completely mystified?
I can save fine to a local hard disk however that really is not what I want to do and don't see what the issue is with the NAS - its a QNAP and solid as a rock and have been using it for ages.
I can't see anyone else having similar problems and hoping someone can help?

Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
Plug-in installation instructions:
1. Close Photoshop Elements
2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
• For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
• For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
Hope this helps!

  • Photoshop Elements 4.0 won't save changes for IPhoto 6.0.2.

At some point following installation of IPhoto 6.0.2, a problem appeared during editing photos with IPhoto preferences set for opening in Photoshop Elements 4.0: When I hit "save", the following dialog box appears: "could not build a preview because of a program error." My edited changes are lost and don't appear back into IPhoto. (On force-quitting PhotoShop Elements, I now CAN properly save the changes back to IPhoto.) Or sometimes Photoshop Elements “unexpectedly quits” during the editing attempt.
The problem was not solved by reinstalling Photoshop Elements 4 and is similar on two different computers (IMac G4 and PowerBook G4).
I assume the problem resides with IPhoto (presumably v 6.0.2), not Photoshop Elements. Even though I have my IPhoto Library backed up on a Lacie external hard drive, I've hesitated tweaking my IPhoto program (such as to ditch preferences or reinstall).
    Any suggestions?

Lori, thanks a million! The answer does seem to have been found in the Adobe forum you suggested: It suggests going to user>library>preferences folder and delete Adobe Save for Web prefs. A friend also suggested saving Photoshop Elements edited changes by using "save as" as opposed to "save" which gives another (slightly tedious) fix that translates back to IPhoto.

  • Photoshop Elements freezes up

My Photoshop Elements freezes up after 30 seconds to 3 minutes of use.  What can I do to fix this?

If your problem is not resolved yet , then please try resetting preferences. Follow below steps
    Close Elements.
Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Crashes on Open & Save

I have a brand new iMac with Mavricks that I have installed Photoshop Elements 12 on.  If I try to open a document from the File> Open route, the program freezes and I have to force close it.  I am able to open documents through the Finder just fine.  However, I am not able to Save or Save As.  The program freezes when I try to do that as well.
I have tried deleting all of the preferences associated with PSE and have verified that all of the Finders are set to List View and that there are no folders associated with CoverFlow anywhere on the computer.
Any other ideas!?  I need to be able to save my files!!!!!!!

Still no luck.  I even tried uninstalling and installing again.  It has to be some kind of conflict between Finder and PSE since it only happens when I try to open a file from within PSE or try to save.  Everything else is working perfectly fine.  I also tried opening a file in Organizer and the same thing happens.  Any other ideas?
Thank you for all of your help!

  • Photoshop Elements 12 on the Mac "Save to Web"

Is anyone else seeing Photoshop Elements 12 on a Mac crashing every single time when using the "Save to Web" option?

Go to your username>library>preferences and delete all instances of "Adobe Save for Web < number > Prefs". It wouldn't hurt to also delete:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Settings
while you're in there. To see the library, click the Go menu in the Finder and hold down the Option key and it will appear below the little house for your user account.

  • Photoshop Elements freezes during launch

I have posted this before, and will do so again. I am using Photoshop Elements 13.x with a Mac OS X Yosemite installation. The program freezes during startup. If I follow the advice found HERE:
A Reminder for Mac Folks upgrading to Yosemite | Barbara's Sort-of-Tech Blog
And then restart my computer, the program will load and function properly a few times. It might be once, twice... or five times. But soon enough I have to repeat the procedure. It's unacceptable and if Adobe can't offer support or a solution I would like to know how to obtain a refund.

Hello? Is there anybody out there?

  • Photoshop Elements freezing new iMac Alum 20"

I know a lot of people have noticed freezing with Leopard in general but we have tied it to Photoshop Elements.
    New Alum 20" iMac.
After initial install of Leopard we experienced no issues with freezing. The computer was running great.
Then we installed PhotoShop Elements (latest version bought < 1 month ago) and then the computer wouldn't last 20min without freezing. Removed Photoshop and reinstalled. Still Freezing. Stripped out Photoshop and computer is now running fine for the last 24hr.
Anyone experience this? We need to get photoshop back on the system but I'm not willing to risk continuous freezing. Anyway to trouble shoot this further. I'm curious if its the Adobe Bridge application, the update utility or PS itself. We also noticed a drop in performance of IPhoto once we installed PS which returned after PS was removed.
I'm defining freezing as No keyboard input, the mouse is responsive and moves but unable to click on any buttons. The only way to recover is to force the computer to shutdown with the power button.
Mainly looking for any troubleshooting techniques for handling such a problem.
    Thanks Mark

PS runs fine on my Mac under Leopard, but I've yet to launch Bridge since the update.... Have you used Bridge yet? I think it isn't compatible with Leopard, but PS is completely Leopard compatible........

  • Photoshop Elements 5.0 Attempt to access invalid address error

Everytime I try to open Photoshop Elements I get this error message
and the application refuses to load. I had this issue before and solved it by deleting Chrome (which irked me as it remains my favourite browser to use) however it appears to have come back. I'm not using Bitdefender and my operating system is Windows 7. I have tried deleting my preference folders and uninstalling and re-installing. Any help? I really don't have the money to upgrade and I like this version.

Have you applied the 5.0.2 update for Vista/W7? If not download it here:

  • I have just upgraded to Yosemite and now Photoshop Elements freezes when using spot healing or clone stamp, is there an update due?

I have just updated to OSX10.10 Yosemite and now Elements freezes when using spot healing or clone stamp.

If you are using track pad, please use mouse and see if your issue is resolved.
Moreover, this issue has been resolved in PSE 13. You can give it atry as well.
    Thanks!!

Photoshop Elements doesn't respond when you use editing tools in Mac OS X 10.10

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes with attempts to change printer settings

(This problem also occurs with InDesign CS6, so I will post to that forum as well. First one to give me a solution gets my undying love and devotion appreciation.)
My employer acquired a Canon 6010 printer with a Fiery print controller last year. I have no problems printing from my personal Windows laptop.
However, from my employer's iMac (OS X 10.6.8) I get the spinning beach ball of death at least 90% of the time that I open an existing document and attempt to change the printer settings. The only way out is via Force Quit. Inexplicably I can occasionally succeed in changing printer settings. I think the record was having to force quit the application 11 times. Not sure - I quit counting.
So far our only semi-consistent work around: create a new document and copy and paste the contents from the existing document. Not cool. But sometimes the app freezes with brand new documents, thus destroying my work around anyway.
    Additional Information:
I have installed all CS6 upgrades.
Our technical support contractor recreated the problem and could not find any solution other than the work around.
Canon says the problem is with the applications.
This happens whether I attempt to change the printer settings immediately or make changes to the document first.
It does not matter what other applications are running.
Rebooting the system after the app freezes does not make it work.
We cannot upgrade past 10.6.8 because of the age of the hardware. But CS6 is supposed to run on Snow Leopard.
I have tested this with other applications, including some older Adobe software. It does not happen with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3, Acrobat 8 Pro, Acrobat 9 Pro or Acrobat XI Pro.
This happens whether the documents were created and saved on the Mac or on a Windows computer.
Re-saving the documents and/or printer settings does not change the outcome. Once I restart the application Photoshop may remember the paper size, but doesn't remember duplex settings. (From another thread in this forum I suspect a corrupt printer preferences file.)
Per the instructions in the other thread I reset the printing preferences by launching the app while holding down shift-control-command. That enabled me to change the printer settings one time. Every subsequent attempt brought back the spinning beach ball.
No other employees report similar problems (including a few MacBook users). However, they do not use Photoshop or InDesign, nor do they typically change printer settings.
Sorry if some of that is irrelevant - just trying to give you as much info as possible and tell you what I've tried already. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Bonnie

Nanneri, my situation is similar in that creating the PDF and printing from that does take longer than just printing from InDesign and Photoshop.
I finally got a Canon tech rep on site who understood my problem. Though we had tried reinstalling the drivers (as had previous Canon reps), this guy got it right. Neither Photoshop nor InDesign has locked up since - at least not for the Canon 6010. (Photoshop has locked up twice when I've attempted to print to a Canon iPF8300s wideformat that isn't on the Fiery. Restarting PS has fixed that.)
Based on my experience, I would start with new drivers.
FYI: I am having problems printing to a new Canon C7065 that also uses Fiery. But the problems vary and I haven't isolated the factors. Sometimes I get a printed error report. Sometimes it just doesn't print. But no more software lockups.
In our case, I suspected our problems were related to having old hardware that can't be upgraded past OS X 10.6.8, which is the oldest OS compatible with both CS6 and the Fiery. But since you are on a newer OS, and a different printer, I'm beginning to wonder about the Fiery.
Hope you find a solution soon. Keep us posted!

  • Adobe Indesign and Photoshop CS3 Freezing after trying to save file

    Hi
I was using both Indesign and Photoshop yesterday with no trouble. Out the blue whenever I tried to either save a file or generally use any of the functionality within the File menu the dialogue box quickly appears then fades and the software freezes. Its doing this in both Indesign and Photoshop.
The IT department logged on using their administrator info and both packages appear to work fine it just seems to be once I log in using my user account.  We have tried reseting preferences etc.
Any help or advice would be welcomed.
    Thanks

You have a stored invalid folder reference and since it can't be restored, the apsp crash on file dialogs. Have your IT department sift through the registry and clean out the relevant MRU sections.

I appreciate your help regarding this issue. I already tried deleting the settings folder and i dont work with multiple monitorss so i coudn't have misplaced de window. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it didn't help.

    Xavier,
In a case like this (maybe always), you should run the Cleaner tool between uninstalling and reinstalling.
