I have now downloaded all the pictures in my camera directly into PSE Organiser. The pictures are all in folders listed by date the pictures were taken. Are they now safely housed in the PSE program?
PSE does not contain your photos. The photos are on your hard disk(s) somewhere, wherever they were put when they were moved from the camera to the hard disk (might be the default location chosen by PSE).
Can I delete the old Canon programs, which are still sitting on my Mac?
Yes
And if I want to back up on an external hard-drive, how do I do that? Just drag the whole lot across?
Your interest in making backups is to be commended.
There are many ways to make backups, including the way you just suggested. You can also create a backup using PSE (which I recommend) since it includes the photos and the very important catalog file. In PSE, File->Backup Catalog, and set the destination of the backup to your external HD. Remember to do this regularly.
Sometimes when I've used 'Smart Fix" or other tools in the Photo Fix toolbox, I'm not happy with the result. But how can I 'undo' a fix and revert to how it was before?
PSE should create a version set when you do any editing, including the Smart Fix. Thus, you just need to expand the version set (right-click on the photo) to see both the original and the Smart Fix. Then you can delete the Smart Fix version.
-- I want to create an album "Europe 2012", and within it categories for UK, France, Italy etc. But although I hit 'create album category' when Europe 2012 is highlighted, the category just attaches to the last listed album - something completely unrelated. How do I ensure categories are within the correct albums?
I'm going to strongly recommend you don't do this via albums (unless your intent is to share the contents of the albums online somehow, in which case use Albums). I recommend you use tags instead of albums for this purpose. You can create a tag called Europe under Places, and another tag under Europe called France. I would also recommend you not bother including year or other calendar information in the tag (or album) names. You want "Europe" as your tag, not "Europe 2012". Why? Because you can always segregate by year (or other calendar time period) using the PSE Timeline; there's no need to do extra work to segregate the tags by year (or other calendar time period).

    Hi Dale,
Are you trying to browse files using Windows Explorer and add the desired file to APE 11? If yes, here's the link to the Help page that tells you how to do this:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/getting-started/add-files-from-hard-drive.html
For APE 11, we have created a Getting Started page especially for neotype Premiere Elements users that provides all the information you need to quickly get started. Here's the link to the page:

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer not writing metadata to files

Trying to use Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer to update date taken and add tags to picture files.   Organizer is supposed to write/update the original file properties with this updated/new metadata, however, it seems to be pretty haphazard.   I've tried selecting pictures and using the menu option to "Write keyword tag and properties info to photo" (CRTL + W).   It processes and states it is updating the files, however, after it completes, you can access the source file in Windows Explorer and view properties but none of the changes (date info or tags) has been updated in the file.
Adobe support has been not been helpful simply pointing me to a knowledge article on metadata which basically tells you to use the same commands I'm already performing.   Posting here to see if anyone has other suggestions.

    Hey,
There are various date/time fields shown in properties panel in Organizer. The dates mentioned in general section are read from OS whereas the dates in EXIF field are read from image's EXIF data. In EXIF data there are three date/time fields-
    1. Date time- This date/time info shows date modified of EXIF properties. So when you are writing a tag into imags's IPTC, you are doing some change in EXIF data. Hence this date should change to date when you are writing a tag into IPTC.
    2. Date time original - Represents date time when a image was shoot.
    3. Date digitized - Represents the date when the image was digitized (in digital camers there is hardly some delay between an image is shoot and it is digitized. So this field is always same as date original).
So, in your scenario, Date time in EXIF should change whenever you are writing any tag into its IPTC.
Please let me know if you need more info on it.

  • Email Account Question for Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer

I can create draft photo emails and email messages with attachments in Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer, but I cannot activate and send them apparently unless my client is Microsoft Outlook.  I have two other email accounts that I want to use, but not Microsoft Outlook.  I don't want yet another account.  Why can't I establish my own preferred email client for this purpose?  If I can, then how do I do it when no option is provided at least within the Organizer.

Which email client you want to use?
You should be able to configure your email client with Adobe Email Services in Organizer. Do you see Adobe Email Service in Edit >> Pref >> Sharing-
    Thanks

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer incomprehensible

I suppose this isn't a good question, but I find the so-called organizer in elements 10 impossible to understand and use. I use the Macintosh version. I don't get the point of it, whereas the Adobe Bridge in my previous version of elements was clear and straightforward. Many of the features seem to be unnecessary duplicates of iPhoto (e.g. face recognition), and figuring out what folders things are in, creating new folders, and organizing images is beyond me.

The point of the PSE Organizer is not to replicate or duplicate the tools in the Mac Finder, or in Bridge, where you organize your photos in folders and folder hierarchies. If you plan to continue using folders as your only organizing tool, then you probably don't need the PSE Organizer. Using the PSE Organizer to organize your photos in folders has very few benefits, and significant drawbacks.
If you want to continue to organize using folders as your only organizing tool, then don't bother using Organizer. If you like Bridge, then use Bridge. But don't expect Organizer to behave or work the same as Bridge, because it does not behave or work the same as Bridge.
The point of the PSE Organizer is to give you different tools — and in my opinion, far superior tools — than folders to organize and search. These different tools are tags, captions and notes. With these tools, you can achieve organization in ways that folders could never achieve. Specifically, a photo can be in one and only one folder, but it can have many tags associated with it and long strings of meaningful text (caption or note) associated with it. The tags and captions and notes are all searchable. Thus, for example, if you want all your photos of your daughter Jennifer, all you need to do is click on the Jennifer tag. You don't need to know which folders these photos are in, as PSE does the hard work of remembering folder locations so you don't have to. Such a search is nearly impossible if all you use are folders to organize. There are many other searches that are extremely easy to perform in Organizer that are nearly impossible to do in folders.

  • How to transfer the photo captions from Photoshop Elements 12 organizer to Adobe Revel albums ?

How to transfer the photo captions from Photoshop Elements 12 organizer to Adobe Revel albums ?

Thks for the contribution. However, it seems I cannot solve my problem with the kindly proposed solution.
    Let me rephrase my problem:
I off-line prepare, organize photos and also add manually individual photo captions with PE12 Organizer. In the properties panel, I can check that the photo properties (including captions) are properly associated with the photo.
However when I upload on Revel -directly with PE12 Organizer (selecting Share/Private Web Album)- these individual (accordingly captioned) photos or albums, I cannot find the photo captions (i.e. the photo caption did not directly show up with the photo in Revel). This obliges me to a double work by copying  and pasting each photo caption.
Is there any plan to get rid of that ?
Let me add that I am using the French version of PE12

  • Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer catalog conversion

I'm having trouble converting Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 catalog to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer.  I get a Conversion Failed error which tells me to repair with the program that created it.  I have tried several things including deleting all .avi files from the catalog, deleting references to missing files and backing up then trying to convert from an external HD.  I'm running Vista Home Premium on a HP laptop.  The Organizer optimize and repair don't seem to help in this case.
Does anyone have any history with this or advice?

Please refer to following KB article which deals with catalog conversion failures:-

  • Help with Photoshop Elements 9 Organizer

I need some help with my new Photoshop Elements 9 Organizer.
I have not had previous versions of Photoshop, this was a brand new installation.  I had previously used Kodak software which came with my camera to organize and edit pictures.
My PC is approximately 6 years old.  I have a 2.2 ghz processor and 1.5 GB of RAM.  I am running Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.
The software seemed to install just fine.  I then imported some pictures from my Kodak folders into the Photoshop Organizer.  After importing pictures I then received the following error message:
'Elements 9 Organizer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
If I remove the pictures from the catalog, I no longer get the error message.  As soon as I import any pictures, however, I get the error and the software closes.  When I reopen the organizer I get the same error after after about 15 seconds
    I have tried the following:
    uninstalled an re-installed twice
turned off the automatic backup to photoshop.com
I did come across thread 769749 (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/769749) that offered some advice.  Based on that, I optimized my catalog (which was empty), repaired my catalog (which was empty).  I also created a new catalog and removed the existing (empty) catalog.
All of these efforts have not worked.  Each time I try something, as soon as I import any pictures into the catalog, I get 'Elements 9 Organizer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
This is brand new software that I am unable to use.
    Adobe, please help.

Answers to following queries would help-
    * Are you able to import images into Organizer from folder other than your Kodak folders?
    * Is your problem happening for importing from a specific set of folders only?
    * Is your problematic folder having any video files in it which you are importing into Organizer?
