Photoshop Elements opening on startup, despite having shut it down prior to closure.

I am running Elements 13 on a MacBook Air O SX Yosemite version 10.10.
After installation I encountered the following issues.
1)       Elements 13 Organiser application opened ok and transferred my photos from iPhoto.
2)       Elements 13 Application opened o.k
3)       Elements 13 Editor opened o.k
But latterly, when opening Elements 13 application after 1 second, the screen reverts to another copy of Elements 13 Organiser.
I have attempted to check the Installed files, to check if they are in the right location, cannot see any apparent issues.
Additionally on Start-UP  Elements 13 starts automatically despite having quit the programme prior to closure.
Maybe if I completely re-installed Elements 13 the problems might go away.
Your earliest response would be much appreciated.

Barbara Hi!
Thanks for your quick response.
Sorry for the confusion regarding 2 Copies of Elements 13 Organiser.
What I intended to say is as follows:
On my Dock, after installing Elements 13, there are three adjacent Buttons for the Elements 13 Application from left to right:-
1  Elements 13 Organiser
2  Elements 13
3  Elements 13 Editor
MY ISSUES ARE:
1  Elements Organiser  opens o.k.
HOWEVER:
2 Elements 13      (To import work from the Elements Organiser),  the following happens:
This section of the application opens only briefly, (1.5 seconds,  headed appropriately  Elements 1  (But immediately reverts to a repeat copy of the Elements Organiser screen) which is activated by Button 1
Button 3 Elements 13 Editor (opens) O.K.
P.S   Initially the application was working O.K
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
David A Hullin

the screen reverts to another copy of Elements 13 Organiser.
What do you mean by this? There is only one copy of Elements 13 organizer installed on any mac.
I would start by deleting the preferences and the saved application states for PSE:

  • Trying to upload "actions" to photoshop elements 10 but I am having troubles because things are not on my hard drive that need to be there??

I am trying to upload "actions" to photoshop elements 10 but I am having troubles!  I watched the YouTube tutorial but seem to be missing "Adobe" in my Hard Drive!  Help me I am stuck....

I just loaded my actions using the PSE 10 from the App Store.
    Close PSE.
Access the System library location from Finder menu, click "Go" in the menu bar then select "Go to Folder...". Type in  "~/Library" and click Go.
The systems Library will open up and then you take this path:
Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor > Presets > Actions (The Actions folder is where you move your actions file to)
Then go to the Photo Creations Folder > Locales > en_US and delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file (move it to the trash)
The next time you launch PSE your Actions DB will be rebuilt with the new actions installed.

  • Photoshop elements 9 organizer startup

when i start photoshop elements organizer it automatically brings up all of my pictures in the workspace. this takes a lot of time to load because i have thousands of pictures. i have looked in preferences and cannot find something that lets me select what is brought up when starting photoshop elements organizer. how can i change this so the workspace is not automatically populated with all the pictures?

Open the Organizer and click the display button (near top right) then change to Folder Location View.
Only photos from a selected folder will be shown.
If you prefer, you can select to show the last batch of photos imported and earlier import batches.

  • Photoshop Elements won't startup

    Hello,
I spent a long time last night trying to start Photoshop Elements 4 (or 3 for that matter). The repetitive course was that it would proceed quite far into the startup until a blank but flickering dialog box appeared. From the on the only choice was a Forced Quit.
    Several things that didn't work:
    1) trashing any .plist files that I could find in ~/Library
    2) reinstalling Elements 4
    3) removing version 3
    4) repairing permissions or verifying disk (no problems found)
    5) removing cache files with Applejack
But 2 things would allow me to startup though I didn't try to do anything with the program
    1) switching to another user (basically an untouched account)
    2) "Safe" booting from startup and "safe" startup for my account.
So I think it's logical to assume that there is a conflict with something that is running at the time PE4 starts, something that is set to start automatically.
Before I collapsed I think that I found a Prime Suspect, the otherwise glorious QuickSilver utility (beta 50). At least it seemed to solve it last night.
I'm curious if other PE users are using (nearly) current versions of Quicksilver without problems.
Or other thoughts about this tedious story?
    Thanks,

Correct, that's exactly the acr plug-in I was referring to. And, how do you think I feel I bought my 1st mac (imac G5) 3 weeks prior to the intels being announced?
That'll learn me not to buy prior to a major Apple event. In fairness though I wouldn't have upraded the Gpu during purchase time anyway in anticipation for Aperture to run smoothly. Oh boy, will stick to iPhoto and PSE3 instead (and DPP just to see). BTW, are you Barbara, author of 'missing manual'?
I ask as I have Kelbys' book atm and struggling somewhat with it. How does your book compare in style to it? Here in Melbourne a large book store only held 2 copies of Kelbys at that, one 40km the other 250km away. Not sure if I could easily find yours. Could off course order it from the States but am somewhat old fashioned (or paranoid) about credit card and online. The Kelby edition I have now borrowed 10 times and owe enough library fines to have bought several copies.
Hmm, should I have asked this through an e-mail address you have? If it's a case of mistaken identity, my apologies and sorry for the rant.
W.RichardGlen, went a bit OT here and didn't mean to hijack your thread. Maybe shoot an e-mail or enter the discussion forum at the Adobe site.

  • I have an MPEG4 movie running.  I don't know why but Quicktime Player will not let me open this file now to shut it down.  Any tips on how to do this?  I've tried installing an older version QuickTime Player 7.  OS Maveriks

I have an iMac with an OSX 10.9.5.  I have an MPEG4 program that is running.  QuickTime Player can't open it up for me to stop it.  What are my options?  I've tried downloading QuickTime Player 7, an older version but that hasn't helped.

Not sure what you mean then. Is QuickTime still open and playing the video? If so, do you mean you can't even get back to QT to shut it down?
Check the Dock for the QT logo. Click it to bring that app to the foreground. The menu bar then should say QuickTIme Player next to the Apple logo. Close the app and the video will shut down with it.

  • Why won't Photoshop Elements open?

I have PSE 3.0 which used to work fine.  Now I click on it and it won't open.  The opening screen comes up and it says it is loading various files and then it just disappears.  It does not show up in task manager.  I have inserted the DVD and done a repair and when that didn't work I uninstalled and did a complete reinstall.  Same problem.  As far as I know my computer should have plenty of RAM and disk space and a high end video card.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

I got the correction to PrE, thanks.
Now, when the splash screen comes up, there is a little line of text that shows the components that are loading. It goes by quickly, and is not that large to begin with. Can you see what the last component, that it tries to load is? I've found that using a video camera to shoot the splash screen helps, as you can pause the camera in playback to see just what that componet is. This might give you a clue.
If you have added any audio editing programs, it is likely that a VST from it is causing the hang. PrE will attempt to load all VST's (these will usually be .dll files), and can work with most. Others it cannot work with, and you'll usually get a message telling you that it cannot work with this one, the first time that PrE launches after one is installed. These do not affect PrE, but you will not be able to use that/those VST(s). Now, some do cause problems and at launch. These will crash PrE, or PrPro, and the only hint is that little line of text on the splash screen.
Another bit of trouble shooting that might yield clues as to what is crashing PrE will be the info in this ARTICLE.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop Elements opens when I dock my iPod

I don't plan on using any of the photo aspects of the iPod. I am not sure what it is importing from the iPod as I don't have any pictures on the iPod. Also, it does the same files each time.
Does anybody know how to stop this from happening?
    Thank you in advance.

You need to disable the photo downloader. This isn't an ipod thing, it's an Elements thing. How depends on which version you have. For PE 4, just right click the downloader icon in the systray and choose Disable. (You can still import photos to PE by choosing File>Get Photos From… in the Organizer). For PE 3, directions are here:

  • Why does my PhotoShop Elements Program always startup with two windows?

A few months ago I evidently modified something in PSE such that now, everytime I start the PSE
program I get two identical programs going. One program loads, and then immediately another idnetical
    program loads.
Any ideas as to what I did wrong???
Better yet, how do I fix it???

Only when printing?  Can you print from other applications without problems?
Either way, it is probably a print driver or operating system issue.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 Files Won't Open

Just got my 1st IMAC on Friday and am trying to figure it out.  I have downloaded a trial copy of Photoshop Elements 8 and am not having any luck opening the files I download.
The .zip file downloads into the downloads directory,  I double click on it (had to google how to unzip a .zip file on a mac) and move it to my folder called scrapbooking.  However, when I start elements and go to files > open file and go to the scrapbooking folder I can scroll up and down through the .jpeg and .png files and I can select a file to open, but the open button is greyed out and it won't open.
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Wait, wait. You're not installing Elements at all, by the sound of it. PSE does not install by drag and drop. Get that installer out of the scrapbooking folder (for your general info, programs need to go into the applications folder, not wherever you like. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but any program that has any kind of update function will not ever find itself if you put in some random place.)
Starting from the zip file: double click (click once if you're accessing via the downloads stack in the dock) to unizp it. Find the unzipped file and double click that to mount the disk image. Double click the disk image. Double click Setup in the files you see there to run the installer. Do NOT change the installation location from what PSE suggests.
However, your post is very unclear--I can't tell for sure if you already did install it in the wrong place, in which case you will need to uninstall it before doing all this. Uninstall by means of the uninstaller, which for PSE 8 is in the program's folder.
