Photoshop Elments 3 Organizer vs. Photoshop Album 2

Hi Leute,
ich wollte mal fragen, ob mir jemand Infos geben kann, was an dem Organizer in Photoshop Elements 3 anders/besser ist als Photoshop Album 2.
Danke Im Vorraus

([email protected])

  • Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer catalog conversion

I'm having trouble converting Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 catalog to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer.  I get a Conversion Failed error which tells me to repair with the program that created it.  I have tried several things including deleting all .avi files from the catalog, deleting references to missing files and backing up then trying to convert from an external HD.  I'm running Vista Home Premium on a HP laptop.  The Organizer optimize and repair don't seem to help in this case.
Does anyone have any history with this or advice?

Please refer to following KB article which deals with catalog conversion failures:-

  • Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0, migrate to iPhoto?

After 20 years owning PCs, I bought my first Mac. I have about 13,000 photos cataloged in Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to preserve my organization in iPhoto (or even if it's possible).
Photoshop Album uses an external database that permits hierarchies, like Places - MD_MontgomeryCo - Rockville eg. I probably have 30 or 40 counties, some with as many as 100 locations.
I don't think keywords are quite the same, although organizing by album might help. I've downloaded Keyword Assistant from a Mr. Ferry iirc, and that makes keywords much more manageable. But I can't imagine tagging to create anything like my hierarchy of places.
    Any thoughts or experience?
Oh, and how do you change the headings that seem to be automagically applied to each new batch of imported files?
    best, Jon Angel

I have exactly the same problem - except I haven't got my new MacBook yet
I have been doing some research, though, and the chances of getting the tagging out of PSA 2.0 seem very small ...
However, I have found three theoretical possibilities.
    1) I have tried the first steps of this 'solution' without any success, but I will mention it anyway, perhaps you are more lucky: There is a PC based photo cataloging application called IMatch (http://www.photools.com/). For this application someone has created a set of scripts, the first of which is capable of extracting the PSA 2.0 catalog into a plain text file (http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/flow-catalog-imatch.html). I have been unable to make this work, but if you succeed, a second script (mentioned on the above website) should be able to import the tags into IMatch. As I understand, IMatch is capable of embedding the tags as IPTC keywords in the image files. I guess you could use a free trial version of IMatch for this operation, and if you should get this far, it should be possible to import the IPTC keywords info into iPhoto with this script (http://scriptbuilders.net/files/iphotoiptckeywordimportexportutilities1.0.1.html). Well, this was all theory, but maybe it could be useful ...
    2) A second possibility is, that PSA 2.0 stores its caption in the EXIF Description field. Assuming you don't use the caption in PSA 2.0, you could go through your catalog one tag after another and write each tag into the captions of all the images, it is attached to. If it's possible to search in the EXIF Description feld in iPhoto, you could reverse the process when you have imported the images into iPhoto.
    3) Newer versions of PSA (called Photoshop Elements) exist for the Mac. I guess they must be able to import from older versions of PSA, but I don't know.
I don't know if this is of any use, but I just wanted to share my own thougts of this process.

  • Photoshop Album 3.0 SE

I just got an iPod 60GB and am trying to sync my photos from my PC using iTunes 4.9 and PhotoShop Album 3.0 SE (i.e., the free version).
    According to Apple.com:
"Note: While Photoshop Album allows you to sync only certain collections, Photoshop Album SE does not allow you to assign collection tags that are required for this to work."
However, PSA 3SE (contary to Apple's note) DOES, in fact, allow you to assign collection tags to your photos and organize them that way. Notwithstanding, iTunes is STILL not allowing me to sync albums (collections) but only folders. Basically, iTunes is just not recognizing Photoshop Album 3.0 SE and it's "collections" capability.
Since I categorically REFUSE to spend any more money just to get my iPod to do what it's supposed to do, buying any more software from Adobe (or Apple) is out of the question.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

sure I can sync from a folder... but that's not what was advertised to me. It's a big, big, drag to buy an (expensive) piece of hardware and have it not function appropriately without spending MORE money. And I have no guarantee that it'll work if I buy the paid version anyway. ESPECIALLY when it worked ok with the previous SE version.
Wouldn't that get your dander up?
On the bright side... if Apple support wants to GIVE me a powerbook to solve the problem, heck, that's OK by me.

  • Photoshop Album 1.0: How do I reconnect 350 "edited pictures" showing as disconnected files?

I purchased and downloaded PS Elements 13 64-bit Win7 from the Adobe website to a new Dell Inspirion 64-bit with Win 7 Pro.  I have previously been using a registered copy of Photoshop Album 1.0 and Photoshop Elements 2.0 since 2005.  The most recent use was on a computer running Windows 7 Pro operating system using the virtual XP to run PSE.  That computer was fried by a lightning strike.  However, I retrieved the hard drive in good working order with files intact.  I am currently running the PSE program on an old PC with XP and accessing the picture files (9,600) on the old hard drive attached as an external J: drive.  My goal is to transfer all picture files to the new Dell Inspirion where the new PSE 13 resides.  I couldn’t get the PSE 2.0 program to access the picture files!
I finally figured out how to use MS Access to change the drive reference to J:/.
    1) there were a number of line items that seemed to be anomalies in the Access table.  Could these be a cause for the following disconnects?
It seemed that I was about prepared to transition to the new computer and PSE 13, but then after opening PSE 2.0, I found I still had about 350 disconnected files (indicated by a “?” in place of the pic icon).  I then determined that most, if not all of the disconnects, had one thing in common: they were all “edited pictures” and obviously some of my most valued pictures.  I have started to reconnect them one at a time, but it’s very time consuming!
    2) Is there a more efficient way to accomplish these reconnections?
If I understand it correctly, the PSE acts like a card catalog in the library where it simply references the actual location of the original and/or edited files.
    3) Ultimately, how do I transfer all the reconnected pictures and the associated files and folders to the new computer?
Thanks for any advice or assistance you can offer!
<edited by admin to be readable>

Thanks for your quick response.  I respectfully question with your conclusion that I am in the wrong forum!  Adobe Photoshop Album v 1.0 is the specific program I have used for nine years and that is the program I just reopened to verify it's title and that is the program wherein all the Adobe advice is to reconnect all my files before proceeding to convert to Photoshop Elements 13.  The original box describes it as "The fast and easy way to organize and share your lifetime of photos." My apologies for even mentioning the Photoshop Elements 2.0 (the original box describes it as "image-editing software" which I seldom ever used.  Apparently the functions of PSA & PSE has changed over the many versions, as I first went to the Elements forum and  I can't seem to find anyone in the PSE forum to offer any help.  Is Photoshop forum not the forum that would deal with Photoshop Album? There is a forum I see for Photoshop Album Starter Edition, but a quick review of messages seems to relate to something more recent than my product which is not entitled Starter Edition.  Thanks for any clarification in getting me to the right forum if this is not it!

  • Convert photoshop album SE 3.2 to Photoshop elements

    It seems simple enough.
I have photoshop album SE 3.2 and it is working well with 8400 photos all tagged is various groups.  I downloaded Photoshop elements 8 and installed it(succesfully). I then tried to convert the database over.  It does 2% then comes up with:
"The conversion operation failed.  Try repairing the catalog with the software that created it and retry conversion"
I have checked every photo, hit the "reconnect all missing files" option under the file tab.  held the cntl key upon startup, used the oprimize and repair tabs in photoshop elements and nothing shows any errors but it still will not convert.
Is there something obvious I am missing ?
I have about 20 days left on my trial and I want to make sure it works before I buy it.
    Thanking you in advance.

Thanks.  I can see a couple of messages that look like errors but do not know how to handle them.

  • Converting Catalogs From Photoshop Album (2.0) to Photoshop Elements 13

My Photoshop Album currently holds some 23,000 photographs/jpgs from 2003 to date. Each is catalogued to provide a very high level of granularity to assist in identifying specific photographs and their subject content.
I have purchased Photoshop Elements to update the management of the collection. The Adobe information identifies it to be a suitable successor but indicates that there is likely to be some effort required to update the catalog. Using Catalog Manager I have attempted to Convert the old catalog which didn’t work because it “couldn’t be seen” in Elements. Further research of the Forum and other Adobe resources pointed to the Catalog Conversion Utility. Again this also failed to work.
I then reduced the number of photographs to about 4,500 (year 2014). I have noted by the way that this has had virtually no effect on the psa file size. As I gradually Deleted photos from the Catalog I have come across about 100 items which cannot be deleted and returns the following error message….
The ODBC data source reported the following error:
“[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Indicator variable required but not supplied on column number 10 (fDateTimeHigh)”
I have tried a number of ways to delete the photos including removing them from their folder; “Reconnecting the Missing File” with/without the same name in a different Folder; and generally getting myself very frustrated with my lack of knowledge. Googling/search for help and pointers hasn’t found the solution.
What or where can I find a way of deleting these errant files? (I have MS Access if this is a tool that might get me the solution.)
Note that one very old and small Catalog did convert and successfully integrated into Elements so it all works in principle. It seems to point to these problem jpgs.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Still it lasted me for quite a few years over its various issues and wasn't a bad investment for me considering I think it was a magazine cover freebie, though I can't remember whether it was issued on 5" or 3" disks!!!
Interesting to note that conceptually the original design was quite good and together with the new face recognition technology which is as good if not better than Picasa the PSE13 Organiser does a good job. It's a pity Adobe doesn't promote more of this side of the product. I wasn't able to find the replacement to Album as it was starting to struggle as the photo count increased and I hadn't been able to find an obvious replacement. Still that's over now.
All I have to do now is to raise a query as to how to order/sort certain tags and it's a near perfect product for me. Can't find the answer in the Manual(s) or FAQs - or I'm not using the correct query key words.

  • How do you convert a Photoshop Album 2.0 catalog to Photoshop Elements 13.0 catalog?

I have a lot of photographs with metadata and tags in Photoshop Album version 2.0 and I want to pull thee images, metadata, and tags into Photoshop Elements version 13.0 on a Windows 7 computer. Searching the web I found that this has to be done with the convert feature.  I tried File, Manage Catalogs, Convert and point to the folder holding my Photo Project Catalog.psa file, but nothing happens. It does not apparently see the .psa file.  How do I get my .psa catalog migrated into Elements 13?

    Hi,
    See if this helps.
Convert Organizer catalogs for 64-bit versions | Photoshop Elements 13 or later

  • Lightroom 2 from Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0

I plan to install Lightroom 2 on a Windows 7 PC and move all my photos from an old XP machine with Photoshop Album 2.0.  The old photos are organized in folders extensively.  Any tips on how to do this with the least aggravation and get things reorganized best?  (Or would another Adobe program be easier for migration from Photoshop Album 2.0?)  I hope to share the new photo collection on Windows 7 with 3 different users on the same PC. Thanks for any tips.

I partially agree and partially disagree with dj-paige.
The first thing that i do after importing my photos into PSE or into Lightroom, is to tag my photos. I have more than 30'000 cataloged photos and they are all tagged. Tagging the photos is essential to me, because the tags helps me a lot to find/search-for photos; Tags are without doubts an essential organization tool.
However after tagging my photos, the next thing that i typically do, is to organize my new photos into one or more Collections (typically one Collection per subject). Organizing my photos into Collections allow me to show, see, edit/develop my photos in the sequence of my choice. This sequence is often
    -  the sequence in which i will wish to show/see my photos
    -  or the sequence in which I will wish to edit/develop my photos (typically, the most similar photos, adjacent to each other in the sequence of the Collection - this is often not the chronological shoot sequence).
I understand that not every PSE or Lightroom user wishes to do the same as I do and that not every PSE/Lr user cares much about Collections. But for me, Collections are an essential organization tool.

  • Cannot sync photos from Adobe Photoshop Album anymore

    Dear Everybody,
I recently upgraded my computer and had to reinstall it altogether. I ended up with the foloowing configuration:
    WinXP pro SP2
    iTunes 7.2.0.35
    Quicktime 7.1.6
    Adobe Photoshop Album 3.2
As you may have guessed, I use Photoshop Album to organize my digital photos and up to now I was able to sync specific collections with my iPod. Unfortunately this is not the case since I upgraded, after iTunes complained that it could not find my photo software.
I tried reinstalling everything and restoring my iPod without success, now I am desperate for help!
Does anyone have a similar experience or even better, a solution??
    Many thanks in advance,
    Yann

Just to point out that this will not work for raw files, since Adobe for some reason decided against using XMP sidecar files for the organizer, the way they do for PE/mac, bridge, etc.

  • Convert Catalog from Adobe Photoshop Album to Photoshop Elements 13

    Hello Community!
I've searched for this question in Google, but I didn't find an answer that helped me.
The old computer from my client with Windows XP OS is getting replaced by a new one with Windows 7.
There was Adobe Photoshop Album on the old one which isn't supported anymore. My client had over 15'000 pictures on his old PC which I've already copied on the new computer. Now he wants his albums, tags and these things from Adobe Photoshop Album back, so I decided to install Photoshop Elements 13 because of the Elements Organizer tool.
Now I've seen answers in forums that sayed that all these informations are saved in the "My Albums.psa" Catalog file, which I've already found on the old computer and copied on the new one. Some people sayed it would work with the "convert" option in PSE, but this doesn't work for me, because PSE doesn't see the .psa file. So I tried to convert my .psa file with this Tool, but in the middle of the progress it says that it failed and that I should try to repair the file in PSE. I'm now stuck here, with several different solutions, and yet I don't know what to do now.
I've read something about the folder structure and that the pictures and folders have to be on the harddisk when trying to convert the .psa file. All pictures are on the new computer, but of course the folders aren't the same on the new OS.
It would be glad if I find a solution as soon as possible from someone in the community.
Thanks and have a nice day!

Finally I could solve the problem.
I tried to import the Backup.tly in Photoshop Elements, but without success. Even there an Error appeared. The conversion tool also still got this failure at a progress of 15% conversion... So I searched a reason for the failure in google and found this helpful article from Adobe. It says that you should look for the corrupt images in the log file. So did I, and I found the error causing picture on the old computer and deleted it. After that I opened Photoshop Album, clicked on "File > Reconnect all missing files" and deleted this picture from the catalog.
Now I didn't want to make the backup again, because the last nearly had 1h. So I decided to try it again by just copying the catalog.psa from the old computer to the new one and to convert it again with the conversion tool. The error came again, but at a progress of 22% So i had to do this a few times: Searching the corrupt image in the log file, deleting it on the old computer, deleting the missing file in Photoshop Album and converting it. And finally, it worked, no error after conversion! I let photoshop elements 13 open the new .pse13 file. Now, all tags and albums were back on Photoshop Elements. Eventually, I let the programm searching the new paths of all the images. It takes a time but it works great now. Thanks for your help, I would recommend the Adobe Community & support!

  • Migrating photos from Adobe Photoshop Album to Aperture

A while ago I posted to see if anyone had done this but got no replies. I have now managed to migrate my photos and most importantly kept the tags.
The first issue was that Adobe Photoshop Album kept its tags in an inaccesible proprietary database. This was resolved by downloading a 30 day trial version of Photoshop Elements 5 (PC). It appears that Adobe have actually built Photoshop Album in to Photoshop Elements (without telling any of us paid up Album users!). It is all there in PE5. What PE5 adds is an entry in 'File' menu called 'Write Tag and Properties Info to Photos'.
This 'writing' puts the tag information into the keyword IPTC field within the picture file itself.
It was then a simple case of making a backup from the file menu and backing up the whole library on to DVD(s).
In aperture simply Import images from the file menu, select the DVD and all the images are imported - tags and all.
The only one gripe about this process is that PE5 randomly misses out adding tag information to the files. There doesn't appear to be any logic to which files had no keyword information added at all. However, this is a better option than having to re-keyword everything again.
I hope this help some of you.

  • Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition  vs.  Picasa?

    Hi everyone..
I have just installed Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 and I'm wondering about a few things. Bear with me here...
    1. I use Piccasa strictly as a picture-viewer program. I'm not 100% happy with it, could anybody pursuade me and my curious friend, why I should switch to Album Starter? I would like that.
    2. What I DO like about Piccasa is that it just view my pictures and do not copy them into a special piccasa-format. I have several file-formats in my picture-folder and I would like Album Starter to view all of them without changing the original location of the file, nor copy it, taking up a lot of disk-space.
    3. Another thing I like about Picasa is that if I have changed, added or removed a picture in the original file-location it updates those changes when I launch the program.
    4. I understand that there are several ways to view your photos. But can you also view and navigate your pictures through folders while you are in Album Starter? Because thats one thing I hate about Picasa, it just place all my folders on the side of the page, meaning it takes them out of their original folder and destroys the dept-folder-system I have made.
    5. Does Album Starter have a nice search function?
If anyone could take the time to answer these very bad formulated questions, I would be very grateful.

    1) PSA SE has better organizing tools [tags/collections] than Picassa. There is also a clear growth path if you want something more powerful [Photoshop Elements Organizer is compatible].
    2) With PSA SE you keep your image files anywhere you want.
    3) PSA SE has limitations in this area. You are encouraged to move files about from within the program.
    4) I'm not sure that you'd prefer PSA SE in this respect. You are really encouraged not to think in terms of folders, as that is not a way to organize a large collection of images [say much more than 100].
    5) It has various ways to search - what are you after? Using tagging intelligently means you very rarely need to search. [I have use this technology for 3 years and only used Search a handful of time.]

  • How to go from Photoshop Album Starter Edition to Photoshop Elements?

I have both Photoshop Album Starter Edition and Photoshop Elements on my computer. I didn't even know I had the PSA SE--I just assumed it was part of Photoshop Elements when it automatically opened after I stuck my photo disk in. So I started playing around with it and cataloged my new photos. Then I started Photoshop Elements, and none of the cataloging or tags that I had just entered in PSA SE were there. Is there any way to transfer the information from PSA SE to Photoshop Elements without having to retype everything?

You need to locate the PSA SE catalog file. It is called My Catalog.PSA and is Docs&Settings somewhere [in a hidden folder]. Once you have located it, in PSE organizer do File/Catalog/Open and navigate to the file you just located. It will be converted and everything should work OK.

  • Cannot find Photoshop Album in My Pictures

I have been looking all over my C:drive for the Photoshop Album Starter and have located the program but still cannot access the pictures. The digital camera photos folder is empty, however when I open the actual program, the pictures appear. How can I remove the pictures from the Photoshop Album and put them back in My Pictures or on a CD?

I am trying to recall what I did Bob. I only know that PASE loads as soon as I plug the memory card in, and presents my photos on my screen. I have selected that it save them in folders according to date. Finally came the day when I wanted to organize all the pic folders, so in one afternoon, I created a few "collections". the consequences of what I did were immediate, so there was no opportunity for something to have happened from some other source or user. I remember being hesitant when I first saw "import" as an option, but I chose to try it for getting images stored in My Pictures into my PASE collection - from where I selected import, I now can not say, as I can not even find "import" anywhere except when I load my memory card, and I DON'T want to load any more of my photos now until I figure out what's happened to my old ones.
The really odd thing is, some of the originals ARE still there in My Pics, yet many others are reported as "missing". I don't know what the criteria was for removing the originals.
Bottom line... PASE does have all the pics in one place. How can I get them all back? It won't let me burn to CD, and even at that, I'm not sure if anyone would be able to open the CD without fist installing the Adobe programs. Can any other program access the pics once they are burned? How can I burn them?
    Thanks again for your help.
