Photoshop equivalent to "save for web"??

Hello,
I'm trying to organize all my photos into iphoto6. A problem I'm running into is sharing out (to the web/email) these massive 1.5 meg pix. The export feature doesn't give too many options for adjusting quality and playing with file size/quality ratios as you can in photoshop via the "save for web" feature. Photoshop, however, is extremely mind numbing in that you can't quickly batch convert multiple files. I'm wondering if I should learn to live with the limited optimizing functionality in iphoto's export feature or is there possibly an alternative that will allow me to batch convert multiple large pix files into web optimized, good looking .jpgs? If there is such an app, I'm also curious to hear organization strategies between the two apps.
Thanks in advance! best, Steve

There are a number of free applications that you can try. Three are freePhotoConverter 3.5, Resize! and iReSize. You can find all of them at VersionTracker.com by searching for resize. They offer quality level settings, size, etc.

does photoshop elements enable save for web or ready for web for a batch of photos ?

    Hi Patonabike,
You can batch save images as jpeg, png, tiff etc. using Process Multiple Files. This feature will even allow you to batch resize them (as long as they are the same orientation and aspect ratio). However, the resulting images may be larger than what you would get if you individually did 'Save for Web' because 'Save for Web' removes the photo's exif data (and Process Multiple Files won't).
With that said, it depends how you are editing your images and the results you are looking for, if you just want to rescale them or batch edit them - this is one way.
    Hope it helps!

  • Photoshop CS4 corrupt save for web plugin

    Hi
I've been having problems with my save for web function freezing, so I deleted my preferrences , settings, accidently deleted my save for web plugin. The save for web then greyed out if I tired to save for web any type of document. I moved my save for web plugin from my trash back into the plugin folder. Photoshop save for web was still greyed out. I then restarted my computer and the save for web is still greyed out.
Any sugessions on what I can do to activate "save for web" again would be much appreciated.
I  think it's the plugin that's corrupt, I can't find the photoshop cd to  reinstall it.
Has anyone got the MAC CS4 Photoshop "save for web plugin"  (Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Plugins/Adobe Save for Web  CS4/Photoshop/Adobe Save for Web CS4 Prefs) that they could send me.
This is my CS4 Plugin (it was like this before I accidently deleted it), my collegue's cs4 plugin doesn't look anything like this and doesn't work for me either):
    Thanks very much
    Abi

    Sorry I meant my collegue's cs5 plugin.
I've read  quite a few posts on this subject and other people have got their friend  to send them their plugin and they've inserted it onto their computer  and it fixed the problem. But I don't know anyone who has photoshop cs4  on a mac.
    This is my cs4 plugin

  • Photoshop CS6. Save for Web Problem - Don't remember folder location

    Hi!
Found one more problem with Save For Web in Photoshop CS6.
    Example:
    1. New Document
    2. Choose - Save for web
    3. In dialog window Photoshop CS6 offer to save in - os My Document Folder
    4. Ok, every time I don't really need to save in os folders - I save files to my folders. So, change folder ...for example to disc D
    5. Create another New document
    6. Choose Save for web
    7. And.... - Photoshop CS6 offer to save my file in os My Documents AGAIN !!!
So, in fact it's real uncomortable!!! ...if I save different files for web frequently ....I need every time change My Documents....it makes me nervous.......
Here - compare with CS3: CS3 remember "old" folder location even at another session (for example - after reload os)
Is there any fix this problem?
    p.s. Testing on:
    OS - windows 7 64 bit
    cs6 - 64 bit extended
    cs3 - 64 bit extended

Noel, Yes! In your example everything works like on your video. May be my explanation was not so clear, so...I'm trying to describe in more details.
I don't know how to make video & animated gif by capture the screen...so I'll try to explain by words
    1. Start CS6
    2. Make New Document
    3. Save for Web (save parametres are: JPEG, HIGH etc....I think it doesn't matter)
    4. CS6 offer "My Documents"
    5. Change the way to "Disc D"
    6. Save it by name for example "Untitled-1".... & close window "Save for web"
    7. Choose "Save for Web" again
....So, at this step - CS6 remember my current location "Disc D" even I open other file & use command "Save for web"...it saves to Disc D. Everything is ok.
    ....continue:
    8. Shut down the CS6
    9. Run it again
    10. Create new file or....even open saved file on disc D in previous session - "Untitled-1"
    11. Save for Web
So, it's final: CS6 offer the "My documents" AGAIN
    ....continue:
    12. Run CS6 - Make New File - Save for Web to disc D by name "Untitled-1"
    13. Keep the photoshop session & create new document...let's call it "Untitled-2" - so, now I have 2 files opened in CS6: "Untitled-1" (it was saved on disc D before) & new "Untitled-2"
    14. So if I'll try to save second file "Untitled-2" fo web CS6 offer the way "My documents" AGAIN!
p.s. Tryied to do the same on CS3 - Shut down CS3 2-3 times, opened different files, create new docs - there's no trouble. In global - CS3 remember last way (in my case it's "Disc D") & doesn't change it by itself. In fact working in CS3 I din't feel any problems with this command "Save for Web", that's the reason I didn't write any questions on forums etc..... But starting to try CS6 I really feel it makes the work to change every time the folder ways not so comfortable...so I wrote the question here
p.s. 2    In spite of I didn't work in CS4-CS5 cause it were not comfortable in my opinion....now I wanted to  test "save for web" in CS5. Trouble is the same even during one session:
    1. Run CS5
    2. Create new document
    3. Save for web - CS5 offer "My Dociment", change it to "disc D" - save - ok
    4. Shut down, run CS5 again
    5. Create New, or even Opened old saved file to disc D (for example from step 3) - CS5 offer the way "My documents" again
I hope this my explanation was more clear to understand

  • Photoshop CS5.5 Save For Web UI extra border Bug

I have observed on two different Win7 32bit workstations with Photoshop 12.1 x32 from Adobe Design Premium CS 5.5 that save for web seems to add an extra pixel of workspace background grey to the inside black border of the image display on the right and bottom edge.  It's very annoying to see this extra padding in the image since it makes me second guess whether my image crop was accurate.  Please see the screenshot below which was taken of a completely red image in the save for web dialogue window.  Notice the top and left border of the image don't have the same problem.  I've also used a screen magnifier utility (pixie) to make the issue more obvious.  Fortunately the issue seems only to affect the UI, the file that is saved doesn't have the extra pixels included.  I hope this issue can be verified and reproduced here so that it can be fixed in future updates.
    Thanks!
    -tony

FYI, just to test I just did a crop of an image, then screen grabbed the result.
To ensure the edge is visible, I changed the workspace background from the dark gray I usually use to a lighter gray...  Here's the pertinent part of the workspace...
A closeup of the upper-right corner:
Notably, I don't see any black line around it like you showed.  This leads me to wonder whether I interpreted your screen grab properly...

  • Photoshop CS5 slow Save for Web (Win 7, 64 bit)

    Hi.
I have problem with save for web in PS CS5 (12.0.1). It is extremely slow. For example selecting anything from menus takes couple of seconds. I deleted PS preferences files but that didn't help.
Any suggestions how to fix this?
    Thanks.
    My system is Win7 x64, Intel i7 930, 8gb RAM.

Nothing should be slow on a machine like yours.
    Some possible suspects:
Make sure you have updated your video drivers from the web site of the maker of your video card.
Check what other software you have running on your computer.  How many processes are running?  Have you installed tons of "handy" stuff?  All that takes resources.
See if you are having system errors by looking in the Windows System Event Log.

  • Save for web in photoshop

Im saving a psd in photoshop using the save for web option but when i open it in dreamweaver theres a gap on all four sides of the page.
The cellspacing, margins are set to 0. Still i can seem to nudge the page up and left to get rid of the gap.Visually if i left the BG white and my page was black It seems like if there was a margin set around the page about 4px  which gives me a white border around the whole page.
I tryied this several times with diffrent psds to test so maybe its a option when exporting on Photoshop or an option when opening it in DreamWeaver??
    Thanks

Im saving a psd in photoshop using the save for web option but when i open it in dreamweaver theres a gap on all four sides of the page.
The cellspacing, margins are set to 0.
Have you set the body margins to 0:  (the following style rule goes into the head of the documen tor into a stylesheet if you are using one.
    body {
    margin: 0;
    padding:0;
If you already have a style on the body (maybe a background color or background image, then just add the margin and padding rules to the current body in your stylesheet of the head of the document.
Also:  make sure there are no stray <p> paragraph tags sitting above the table or the containing div.  These will of course a space above the table or the containing div.
If none of the advice given helps, then please follow John's advice and upload all the site working files to a server and provide a link   :-)
As you can see, without actualling seeing the code, it can only be a guessing game by the people trying to help you.

  • How to save for web AND overwrite original files with Action?

    Hello,
I want to compress a batch of images with "save for web" using a Photoshop Action, and I also want to preserve my folder structure and overwrite source files. The structure is important because it's complex and needs to be structured this way.
    The Problem:
When I choose "save for web", I must define a destination. What happens is all optimized files from within the structure are saved in a single location.
Here's an example of the folder structure
    Folder A
         - Subfolder A1
         - Subfolder A2
    Folder B
         - Subfolder B1
         - Subfolder B2
              -Subfolder B2.2
    Folder C
         -Subfolder C1
    Summary
Is it possible for me to use a Photoshop Action with "save for web", and overwrite my files without moving them from the structure?

No need to re-invent the wheel.
Just learn how to use the Image Processor, Image Processor Pro, or Dr. Brown's Services 1-2-3 in Photoshop and/or Bridge.

  • PS Save For Web -- what are optimum GIF settings?

    Hi,
I am making very simple buttons for a web page navigation bar as follows:
Create new file in sRGB with proper dimensions for my navigation area.
Fill with web page background color, #c4c0b4.
Use Type Tool to create text in gray #666666.  (After creating these buttons, I change the text color to white for hover buttons.)
Use Guides and Slice Tool to define shape of each button.
Save For Web to create folder with all the buttons.
In the Save For Web dialog I have tried several of the GIF presets -- 128, 64, 32, with dithering and without dithering.  They all look good, but I'm not sure which will give me that absolute highest quality, sharpest looking characters.
    QUESTIONS:
    1) Which of the GIF presets should I use for the best text appearance?  I have read the Help file and it would seem that I do not need dithering since I am using two solid colors -- #c4c0b4 and either #666666 or white.  To dither or not to dither, that is the question!
    2) Do I need more than 32 colors?
    3) In Save For Web, when I click Save and the Save Optimized As dialog opens, should I use the Default Settings under Settings, or would a custom setting be preferable?
    4) Am I correct that I should NOT apply any sharpening to text-only files such as this?
As always, thanks to the pros here for any advice on this.
    John

    Hi Jesse,
I tried using text links and setting the size in pixels, but the sizing changed depending on the browser settings.  Sizing in pixels is better than in points or generic sizes, but still subject to changes.  I'm on a PC and my designer-friend who is helping me with this is on a Mac.  We've done some tests and anything other than making the links with images is not consistent from browser to browser, Mac to PC.  We want to guarantee that all the text on the page will not change -- size, spacing, leading, etc.  My clients are graphic designers and art directors who will notice this kind of thing.
As for the client changing, adding or subtracting links... well, I'm the client and I'm doing the site myself, so that's not going to be an issue.  In addition, as you see, the site is super-simple so there aren't likely to be a whole lot of major changes.  That's not to say it could not happen, but saving all my Photoshop work files is not a problem.
Please understand, I am not arguing with you or Nancy.  If I were doing a complicated corporate or business site, I would use text links for all the reasons you lay out... no question about that.
Thank you for the tips on saving GIFs.  I'm using Photoshop CS4 and Save For Web.  I think I now understand what settings to use.  I am using GIFs only for the text.  All of the images will be JPGs, but those are all generated automatically by Lightroom and a web gallery plug-in called SlideShowPro which not only generates the images but assembles the galleries and does all the Flash stuff.  All I do is embed the Flash galleries into my pages.  For a non-web person like me, that's nothing short of a miracle.
Your comments were not long-winded.  In fact, I'm so eager to learn more about this stuff that I really appreciate your detailed explanations.  Thanks for the comment about my work -- I'm excited about this new website which hopefully will make it look better than ever!
    Best,
    John

  • CS3:   Save For Web  and keeping EXIF data???

I thought CS3 made a change to allow maintaining EXIF data within a file when using the Save For Web Option. I have Not found any option or preference for this. And when I use the Save For Web option, I loose the original time/date the images were captured. Since I use 2 different cameras where the file names are different, I rely on this Image Creation date when sorting them within an on-line gallery.
So my question is, IS there truly a way within CS3 to maintain an images EXIF data?
    thanks;
    ---michael
    [advertising link deleted]

I've done this in the past, however... These images then show a color shift when displayed in a web gallery. I am trying to avoid this, that's why when I heard (thru several sources) that in CS3 the "{Save for Web" could/would leave EXIF data intact vs. earlier versions of Photoshop. The "Save for Web" option does display image colors correctly.
This is bad enough, when, while calibrated, colors in Wen galleries appear different between my Mac and PC displays (desktop & laptops)
...but then this is a different issue all together.

  • 'save for web' werkt enkel indien op bedrijfsnetwerk

The operation could not be completed.

    Please excuse my English.
I suspect you will need to convince your IT people to do a self-contained PS installation on your computer. Photoshop can only do its work when the tools it needs are accessible. This would allow you to do save for web at home and at work.

  • Another save for web devices error - File already exists?

I've been using the same Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7 for about a year now, and only now this problem occurs to me.
Whenever I try to preview gifs in any browser (tried a few), I get the error message "Could not complete this operation. A file by this name already exists."
Tried renaming the files, replacing them, creating new ones, tried to enter preview on old files that previously worked, but always get the same error message.
I did some research and tried deleting both the main Save for Web and Devices pref file, and the other so called "hidden one" in the plugins folder. I've tried reinstalling photoshop from scratch. Nothing works.
Please help me. I'm near desperate :/

Ah, sorry, now I see what you're doing.
I haven't had the issue myself, but I can guess that one or more of the temporary files it needs to create in order to show them in your browser must be failing in creation.  Check the permissions on the folder identified by your TEMP environment variable - you should have Full Control of your TEMP area..
Specifically, it creates a "Save for Web" subfolder there.  You might be able to delete that entirely in order to start afresh.
Just to test, I've opened Photoshop CS4, entered Save for Web & Devices, and pressed the Preview button myself and it worked okay here...  Your TEMP area is likely different than mine.

  • Blurry smart objects in Photoshop Save for Web jpegs

I create graphs, etc in Illustrator, place them as Smart Objects in a master Photoshop file before outputing Save for Web jpegs to use as PowerPoint slide backgrounds. Everything created in Illustrator or Photoshop through that process (Quality 80 or 100 with any of the SfW options on or off) Save for Webs are blurry when imported (at 100%) into PowerPoint. The only way I have been able to get anything crisp in PowerPoint was saving a Photoshop pdf. However, that was only the text created in Photoshop. The Illustrator Smart Object part was still blurry. Anyone have any idea on the best process to combine Photoshop and Illustrator files into one file for import into PowerPoint as a clean, crisp background? At this point I am open to all suggestions.

There are parts that are being added in Photoshop, hence going from Illustrator through Photoshop as a Smart Object and then onto PowerPoint. If I wasn't 5 months down the line and just nearing deadline, I would recreate everything in Illustrator. Assuming that I have to continue at this point down the Illustrator through Photoshop line of working, how do you designate pngs or jpegs to be 220ppi. Jpegs have a 1-12 quality (and 12 is still blurry).
Note regarding PowerPoint, I embed the full-page image into the background so others that are using this can't move (by accident or on purpose) the background.

  • Help please with output settings in Save For Web Photoshop CS4

I am new to CS4 Photoshop so have been watching tutorials on Lynda.com. According to that tutorial I should have the ability to save a photo as an image in the Output Settings dialog box. The only options my panel gives me are:
    HTML
    Slices
    Background
    Saving Files
I don't have the option for Images Only or for HTML & Images. Are these two hidden somewhere?
I have been experimenting with Save For Web, but when I click on Save I get a panel that lists all the images saved in a folder named "Photos" but I cannot find in that folder any of the images that I optimized and saved for the web. Where are they to be found? Images that show up in Bridge are not my optimized images either.I would be grateful for some assistance with this.

Those settings, HTML, Slices, etc, are the Output Settings you don't normally need to change aonything in there.
Leave it at default and you will just save a version of the image stripped of unnecessary data and reduced to the degree you specified next to the file format choice.
When you press Save in the SfW interface it calls up a Windows OS Save dialog box showing the last used location.
The destination can be changed in the normal way. The Images you already saved will be in the the location that was in that dialog when you saved them.
There is a lot more information in the help pages on this topic!  (Hint.)

  • Slices in Save for Web not highlighting when selected in Photoshop CS5.5

Lately I've just noticed when I select slices in Save for Web the newly selected areas do not highlight in their normal yellow colour.
