Photoshop Extended version compatability

I have Photoshop CS3 Extended on both PC (Windows XP) and Mac (OS X Leopard). I'm able to upgrade the PC to CS5 Extended but not the Mac.
My questions are:
1 - Will Photoshop CS5 extended work on Windows XP?
2 - Are CS3 and CS5 backwards compatible - if I work on a document in PC CS5 will the Mac CS5 version be able to open it? I know there will be some things that would not translate backwards, such as Puppet Warp and some of the newer masking and layers features, but I'd still like to be able to work on more basic functions of masking, cloning, etc. on both computers.

My take is that the compatibility setting should be set based on the kind of work one does. I have it set to "Never". When you check this setting ON you tell Photoshop to save along with all your layers another entity, which is a flattened version of the image. This, makes every PSD file you save larger by a non trival amount.
So this setting should have no effect regarding Photoshop to Photoshop version compatibility. All Photoshop versions understand layers and do not need a flattened version. It's intended to maximize the compatibility between Photoshop and any other program that does not know about layers but reads PSD files. If you have many of your PSD files going to, for example, Lightroom or Premiere then set it to "Always". If not, you can set it to "Ask" or "Never" and save yourself a lot of storage space.

Failure installation Photoshop Extended Mastercollection cs6

This concerns a problem in which when I have installed cs6 mastercollection, that I don't get the Photoshop Extended version but the normal PS version. However on the imac I didn't get this problem and it installed with the extended version of PS.
Now I had tested the beta version of photoshop on my macbook and I think after I deinstalled that program, that there is still some residuel data of that program present on my macbook. How do I get rid of this data or do you have another solution so that I will get the extended version!

Loststar86 please start by checking the system requirements for Photoshop Extended at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopextended/tech-specs.html. If you are using a Macbook in particular please ensure it is OpenGL 2.0 capable. Most Macbooks used an integrated graphics card thus they would not meet the minimum requirements to use the Extended functions. This would be why you do not see Photoshop CS6 Extended launching.

Installing photoshop extended using adobe assistant

I already have photoshop cs6 standard, but I want to try photoshop cs6 extended. I clicked the "try" link for extended, but when I the adobe download assistant pops up, it only offers to download photoshop cs6 standard. I thought maybe it just didn't say extened next to it, but after downloading the trial it's just the standard version! Is there a way to fix this?

There is no need to download and install the Photoshop Extended.
Open up Photoshop CS6 Standard version you have on your machine,
Go to Help >> De-activate and de-actiavte the software.
On next launch, it will prompt you with the trial screen wherein you will have "License the Software" and "Start Trial".
Click "Start Trial", it will start in Photoshop Extended version and you can use it for 30 days.
Once you have used 30 Day trial license the software again with Adobe ID or Serial Number and it will back to Photoshop Standard.

Bonjour! Oui: il faudrait essayer de réinitialiser les préférences, en maintenant CTRL+SHIFT+ALT dès que l'on démarre Photoshop, ce qui supprime le fichier des préférence et le remplace par un nouveau. On doit alors obtenir un message qui demande si on veut recréer les préférences.
La réinstallation ne remplace pas ce fichier, et c'est lui qui peut être corrompu lors d'un arret fatal de la machine.
On peut le remplacer manuellement, en suivant les instructions de ce document remplacer évidemment CS5 par CS6: http://helpx.adobe.com/fr/photoshop/kb/preference-file-functions-names-locations.html
Les pilotes des cartes graphiques datent de Janvier. Y-a-t-il des mises à jour disponibles?
De même, Photoshop n'est pas dans sa version 13.0.1.1 il convient de se rendre dans Aide>Mises à Jour

How do I download the trial version of Photoshop Extend?

I am trying to download the trial version of Photoshop Extend but I am having problems doing so. My computer meets all the system requirements, I have cleared out my temp files and tried switching web browsers from Windows Explorer to Mozilla Firefox. Nothing works. I go to the trial download page for Photoshop Extend, select the drop-down menu for "English/Windows/815.5" and click "Download". In Windows Explorer, I get that exclamation mark over the pointing finger then I'm directed to the page that says, "try again". Basically the same thing in Firefox. Why can't I download this program?

Turn off windows internet explorer popup blocker.
If your on a router turn off windows firewall. Most routers already have a builtin firewall and using 2 firewalls does not help matters in downloading.

Thanks for your help Jeff. When I put serial# in, it won't except it.... I think it wants to see a previous version in my pc because my serial is for an upgrade, but when it put in a serial# for version cs5 it still wont except. Do you think i have to install cs5 first (which is also an upgrade).. which will require that I put in version cs4 etc,.etc., etc.

How do I install my education version of cs5 photoshop extended using the CD I purchased ? I slid it into the side slot of my computer and nothing comes up on the screen. I'm not sure where to go from here.....

Like any other program - double-click the setup.exe on the DVD. You merely have disabled auto-play on your system.

Lightroom, Bridge, Photoshop version compatibility

I am now using Lightroom 1.1 and also have Photoshop CS2 (version 9.0.2), Bridge CS2 and of course Camera Raw (version ?)installed on my Windows XP computer. My question is, do I have to upgrade to Photoshop CS3 and Camera Raw 4 for compatibility with Lightroom? Also, how do I know which version of Camera Raw is installed?

Lightroom has its own version of Camera RAW. The only reason you'd need to upgrade to CS3 is to get the latest version of Camera RAW, and the only reason you'd need to do that is if you want to be able to open the images you edit in Lightroom in Camera RAW and still have all the edits in place. You can open the image itself (processed through Lightroom) in Photoshop will all the edits in place regardless of what version you are using (I use Elements 3.0).

Good news and bad news:
The bad news is that you need CS6 or higher to open 6D RAWs. (The 6D didn't get support until Camera Raw 7.3; 7.0 premiered in CS6.) You can choose to upgrade (I'd recommend skipping CS6 and go straight for CC 2014 for $10/month) *OR*...
...the good news is that the DNG Converter can help you convert your RAWs into DNGs for use in CS5 and Lightroom 3.

I need help/advice. I purchased the full version of Photoshop CS5 for Windows. I made it a point to not get the extended version as I thought it was built for only 64bit sytems and I have 32bit. Today I received the extended version. What should I do? Will this work on my sysyem? I have Win XP, SP3 installed, 3.0Mhz processor and 4GB memory.What advantages/disadvatages will there be if I can use this version?
Also, why is it that the Extended version seems to be cheaper than the regular version?

From reputable resellers, the extended version should be more expensive because it includes additional features.
As already stated - extended runs on all the same computers as the standard version.
To use the 3D features in extended you may need a better video card.

Photoshop Extended trial version launching after updating PS Design Standard to version 13.0.2

I installed the retina display-optimized update to my purchased (non-Creative Cloud) version of Photoshop Design Standard (via the Adobe Updater app that pops up in my menu bar only when updates are available), but now when Photoshop launches, I get Photoshop Extended (and it's a trial version). Yes, its known. I'm surprised you didn't see the umpteen reports when you searched the forum before posting. Just re-enter your Standard activation code.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
