Photoshop file error when rendering motion menus in Encore CS4

Hello
I hope someone can help me please?
I've successfully (after 3 attempts) managed to import my PP project into Encore, created the menus etc from the presets that come with Encore (Wedding Garden menu).  When it comes to rendering the motion menus with the animated buttons option checked, after a couple of seconds it comes up with a Runtime C error - photoshop file (508) i think it is and it crashes.
It's a new system CS4, Windows 7 64bit, 2x2.40ghz quad core processor, 24gb ram, nvidfia 285 2gb graphics card - do you need to know anything else?
I've rendered the motion menus without ticking the animate buttons option on the 3 menus I have (it's a wedding dvd - main menu and 2 sub menus with animated thumbnails) and its worked.  This is ok as a workaround but I'd really like to be able to have the menu thumbnails animated.
Many thanks
Rachel

Thanks v much i'll certainly give that a try -
if it helps - I managed to make a note of the error message after I had sent my initial posting on this topic.

  • Abnormal Error When Rendering Motion Menus

    Hello everyone,
I am having the 'Sorry, and abnormal message' thing going on when I try to render my motion menu's. I have had this problem before, but have since forgotten how to remed the problem. I do remember the override option (not to use). But I am stranded otherwise.
I have 3 menus. The first one is my main menu. It comes right after a 10 sec video intro. The menu itself runs about 4 mins of video and their are menu options overlaid on top. I have tried a MS DV AVI video and a Adobe Mpeg Encoded MPEG-2 DVD file. So far, when the animate button is flicked on, I have a problem immediately when I click 'render motion menus'.
Menu 2 and 3 are pretty much the same. I built one, copied and just changed video links and titles. The menu has 6 videos to select from, each with their own video thumbnail. Again when I click animate motion menus I run into the abnormal error. The files for the thumbnails are all MPEG 2 DVD.
Thank You Everyone for your support!

well I fixed the problem. The solution. Reinstall Encore 3 times solving a new error every time. I didn't have to change anything else. Weird.

  • Encore stops when rendering motion menus

I have a pretty consistent problem when rendering motion menus/project and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help?
I've just started to use Encore2, having switched from DVD Workshop 2.
I've got a wedding to author and I've used the useful 'Create Chapter Index' function that automatically creates sub menus. This has worked fine UNTIL I render the motion menus.
There are four menus: 1 x Main Menu, and 3 x Sub Menus.
If I render number 1 sub menu it's fine. It renders all 375 frames (why are there always 375 frames?).
The number 2 sub menu also renders properly.
When I get to number 3 sub menu, it always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs! Why should this be?
I tried creating another project using the same mpeg file (4.12 GB) but with different menus and the same thing happens!
    Any ideas?
    John

    > why are there always 375 frames?
Assuming PAL (at 25fps) that would be a 15 second motion menu.
    > always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs!
Just guessing: If you used motion thumbnails for chapters or timelines, there could be a "glitch" (corruption) 294 frames into the chapter or timeline the thumbnail video is made from.

  • Rendering Motion Menus in Encore - Photoshop File Error -1

I've looked everywhere for the answer to this.... I cannot render my motion menus in Encore.   I recently upgraded to OS Maverick (fresh install) on a brand new SSD drive.  I'm using CS5.5.
    Help!!!
(To go in more detail, I did a screencast below)

I did not watch the whole video.
Both (photoshop -1 and the mega-content ROM) are known issues with Mavericks. We are not getting enough feedback to know how well, or not, Encore is working on Mavericks.

    Photoshop -1 issue:
The workaround was not to left-click on the menu. Use right click, or other options and menu commands.
    Edit: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5810884#5810884
See post 12 and several following where we are looking for workarounds to the error.

For bluray projects, a large amount of BD-ROM is shown, and may slow startup.
A workaround is to add a small amount of ROM content.

  • File Not Found when rendering motion menus

I'm rendering motion menus in CS4. Most of them are successfully rendered but two haven't rendered yet: "FAQ A 13" and "FAQ A 14". When the rendering process gets about 3/4 of the way through FAQ A 13, I get "File Not Found" error.
There is no indication in the error box of WHICH file was not found (thanks Adobe). It doesn't seem like it can be 13, since it already successfully found 3/4 of the file. But I'd be surprised if it was 14 because 13 should have taken another 15-20 seconds of rendering before 14 was attempted.
Anyone experienced something like this and have some insight?
    Thanks

Solved it (sort of): I chose a different transcode preset to force a re-transcode of the video background. Re-rendering motion menus was successful after that.
Strange though that the transcoded file was corrupted/missing (it was fresh as I had imported the asset this session).
Also strange that Encore would transcode background assets to mpeg2 before rendering the motion menu; wouldn't it have to recompress to mpeg2 after compositing the additional elements, and lose quality?

  • File Not Found Error When Rendering Motion Menu

    Hi there.
I'm attempting to render a motion menu and keep getting the error "file not found". All of the necessary files are available and no specific missing file is mentioned.
The background video is a .m2v, and there is a .wav audio file too. They are 42 seconds long.
I tried other Encore projects and 2 others are doing the same thing, or coming up with a 'General Error'.
I have cleaned the Database in the Media Cache. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Encore. There are no updates available.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    David

Yeah, it would have taken me quite a while to redo the menus completely!  So I was very thankful for the save to menu template option.
When I (not recently, thank goodness!) have a project I suspect of corruption, I create a new project, and just "import as menu" from the old menu subdirectory. The method you used deletes the  menus, so exporting the menus helps.
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    That's Snow Leopard, right?
Actually, I'm not really sure about Encore terminology (this was my first project), but the only motion I have in my menus is the line that appears under the button text when that button is highlighted.  At one point I had the photo buttons (for videos) set to animate, but I removed that option.
A highlight is just a highlight, not "motion." Animated buttons, when rendered as the menu, are actually a video background, so that was a motion menu.
All 30 slideshows are actually individual video timelines.  They were created and exported from Photosho Lightroom 3.
In Encore terminology, those are just videos - many Encore users choose to do slideshows as videos.
I had originally tried creating each one as a slideshow from within Encore, but I was DEEPLY dismayed by how slow Encore became, evetually locking up at least once per hour.  It was ridiculous, even taking into account the fact that it is not a 64-bit program.  I planned to leave 2 of the songs as Encore slideshows (Lightroom can't do Pan/Zoom), but in the end I had to replace them with mp4s because the slideshows just would not play.  Really, it was about 11 wasted days plus 4 productive days to get me through the project!
Encore has a variety of problems with slideshows, but I suspect from your description that you were using very large images. Scaling them down a bit can improve performance.

  • File error when rendering audio on finished project

    Hi gang
When I go to render the audio before exporting, I get a file error message about 1 minute into the render that sez: "File error: specified file is open and in use by this or another application". I don't have any other projects open and I trashed my FCP prefs thinking it might fix the problem but same message appears again.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance

I'd mark it helpful if I could. I've been having the same problem and got tired of "babysitting" my computer while I did a mixdown on long sequences. I just had a 10-minute audio render, and it gave me the error message 3 times. I found this reply and made the prefs changes and it finished just fine (unattended).

  • Panic! file error when rendering

    I'm running on FCP 6.0.3 with a Macbook 1,83 2gb ram
have a mixed timeline from motion jpeg a compressed movies. i couldn't render some of them. File error keeps popping up.
and now it seems i can't render any of my projects. don't know what's gone wrong and panicking for my application send-in. please help!

  • Blu-ray Motion Menus in Encore CS4

Okay. Just upgraded to Encore CS4 from CS3. Few nice changes.
Have crashed about 10 times (in one hour) doing simple things like, assigning folders, playing video, adding menus. Can anyone say maintenance release???
    Here's a question...
WHY CAN'T I SEE THE VIDEO I HAVE ASSIGNED TO A MENU WHEN I SIMULATE?
This was working in CS3 now it's NOT in CS4. Tried on two different machines, one with ATI card an the other with nVidia!
    ADOBE... are you there???

That's right. CS4 simply behaves different to CS3!
I have never had to render out a menu to preview it. We only create motion menus for Blu-ray and only use highlight layers from Photoshop. In CS3, when you right clicked on a menu in Encore and clicked "simulate from here", you would see your highlight layers over the video immediately.
NOW, with CS4, you must render out the menu after clicking "simulate from here" to see it. VERY annoying but I'm sure Adobe did this for a good reason.
Pop-up menus I am glad to report actually work! We haven't figured out how to create motion pop-up menus yet but I suspect this is not available yet in Encore.
If anyone knows any differently, I'd love to hear it.
What's fixed and I'm SO GLAD is that during simulation, the SKIP FORWARD chapter button WORKS!!! In CS3, you had to pause the video and then could skip forward. Now, like any other normal program, while the video is playing, you can skip forward.
I would thank Adobe for fixing this but, let's face it, this just should have worked in CS3!
    Regards,
    Darren

  • Adobe Encore - Background Video Rendering & 'Photoshop File Error - 1'

Hi, I am having serious problems with Adobe Encore at the moment, and really need help fast.
I am currently making a DVD project where:
I have used Photoshop to create the buttons (It's just the two buttons/options created in groups with the text and their highlights. There is no background).
Once that was done, I created a spearate animation in After Effects that allowed images to change from one to the next.
I exported this as an MPEG so that it could be inserted as a background video in Encore.
So I went back to Encore, inserted the buttons and my background video, created the motion properties so that the video would play behind the buttons (and I did the same for audio). Then I went to preview it, and clicked 'render' and it wouldn't! It just pops up 'Photoshop File Error-1'.
I read that other people have the same problem and have tried editing the psd with the buttons, but still nothing has helped!!!
    Can someone please help me??
I would really appreciate it. Thank You
By the way, I am using MAC OS X Version 10.9.2 (Mavericks), if that matters.

    >alert them to the problem, and fix it?
Will never be fixed... CS6 is done
CS6 is the final Encore http://www.adobe.com/products/encore/faq.html
-see #8 here for why http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1337952?tstart=0

That would be a question to ask Apple, or in an Apple forum

  • Photoshop File Error-1 in Encore CS6 Menus / General Error

    Greetings,
I recently had to install the whole CS again. I have had the program work previously before but with these issues now, I am lead to believe it is some installation issue.
    I will go to
File-> New ->Menu. Then create a new timeline, import a video as asset. I will then go to the Flowchart area, Click on what would be the first button on the menu.  From there I go to the right hand side in the Properties area for the buttons. I attempt to use the pickwhip to LINK the chapter point I want and to the button.
This seems to be done successfully. Next I will go in the properties area to edit the text in the Name field. After tabbing out of that field. I get the "Photoshop File Error-1" Pop up error message.
I could then go back to File-> New-> Menu and then I would get a "General Error" message that I would not be able to close out of. The only way to close the program is to do so with Task Manager.
    Suggestions?

    Sorry I am occupied elsewhere.
Try some of these. I don't know whether any of these address the point at which you are getting the error. Can you "Edit in Photoshop," is you right click on a menu?

  • Photoshop file error -1 in Encore

I am getting this weird "photoshop file error -1" when trying to render the motion menus.  Anyone had this same problem?

See this thread in the Encore forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5784959#5784959
I have asked, and do not believe that any Mavericks' users have given a thumbs up. The problem described there, that produces the Photoshop -1 error, has a workaround for some parts of the problem, but looks to me like it would be a serious pain.
Please report in that thread your assessment and any solutions (or lack thereof).

  • Why am I getting Photoshop File Error -1?

I am using Encore CS 5.1 on a Mac Pro 2012 along with Photoshop CC 2014. I created a dvd for a dance recital we did recently and as a favor for the studio owner, I was attempting to do a flash version that I intended to leave online for her.
When I pressed "Build", Encore began it's process but almost immediately showed the following message:
    "Photoshop File Error -1"
    I used the following settings:
    FORMAT: F4V
    PRESET: 1280X720 widescreen
FLASH VIDEO FILE: Keep with Flash SWF
I used Encore templates and changed the backgrounds of all of them to suit my project. I made sure to make the bottom layer of each menu a background just like the template.
Is there something I'm missing to get this to work right?

Hi Stan, this is a follow up to your thoughts above. Here are the steps I took in an attempt to identify the issue:
    TESTING PROCEDURES
    1. Change Menu audio file names in encore-no spaces-lowercase (I created audio for each menu)
    2. Change menu names-shorten,no space, lowercase
    3. change timeline name-no spaces, lowercase
    4. change audio & video name-lower case, no spaces
By doing all the above, I was getting the same error message. Then I tried one last thing: I removed all the Menu Audio items. This was the only way I was able to create the flash version of the dvd. After it's creation, I went back to the audio and changed the actual file names (outside of Encore) to menu1, menu2, menu3 and so on. I then re-imported them into Encore and yet again I received the error message.
I conclude that adding audio to the Motion menus seems to be problematic to creation of the Flash version. One other piece of info: The audio was all in .aiff format.

  • "Photoshop file error -1" While building project

I've spent the past couple of days working hard on a DVD project in Encore. I finally finished and was ready to "build" it, when I got the message "Photoshop file error -1".
This is frustrating because I have to get this DVD to my client very soon. I'm running on OS X v10.9.3. What does this have to do with Photoshop, and is there any solutions to this?
    Help would be deeply appreciated.
    -Taylor Foerster

So that agardenofthemind does not think he is losing his mind, let me share this: I attempted to do buttons in Encore and also tried to change the name of marker points in Encore and the same problem arose. I was successful in changing them solely in Photoshop so I did that. We seem to have VERY similar issues. I know my solution doesn't seem like it should be the problem and solution but trust me, I went back and tried it several times with the SAME result. In fact, I took another project and did the same thing. It is somehow tied to audio in the menus. Yet this audio works perfectly as a DVD. Very weird to me.

  • Every time I try to create a new button I get "photoshop file error -1"

I'm creating a BluRay set of discs. I'm on number 4 and there will probably be 12. I use the previous discs as a template for the new ones to save huge amounts of time. I haven't had an issue till I opened my project today. Usually I right click on a menu, edit it in photoshop, save it back in, and then I right click the new elemnts and turn them into buttons. I've made dozens of menus like this. Then today I get "photoshop file error -1" that pops up every time I try to make something into a button. I deleted the menu I was working on and used a different menu to rebuild it but I get the same problem. I then opened the photoshop file and saved it to a different location outside the project and then imported it into Encore. Same problem once I tried to make buttons. I also tried trashing the preferences. No Luck. I really need to get this working. It has completely destroyed my ability to get this job done. Ideas anyone?
If it helps, I am on a Mac running OS X 10.9.1. Encore is version CS5.1.

I thought there ought to be way to add buttons from the Encore library, but I don't think we found one.
Best case: add menu from the library with buttons like what you want. Change background etc.
I like working that way rather than adding things within Encore.
Worst case: add a menu with the buttons you want; "edit in photoshop" and also "edit in photoshop" your menu; copy paste to your menu.
You can also directly open library menus; add buttons etc from the encore library folders. I would make a copy of them first. Encore imports a menu from the library to your project; it is never working on its master copy.
