Photoshop file motion/effects? (Newbie)

Hey guys,
I tried inserted a .psd file with text (transparent background) into FCP, the problem I am experiencing is that whenever I add an effect such as "glow" or "light ray" to the .psd file, it adds the effect but I can't seem to alter the settings e.g the colour of the flow and the glow size (begins off with large glow then eventually moves to large glow)
How can I achieve this?
Thanks

Thanks alot it worked!!
Is there also a way to change the colour of the glow?

  • Photoshop file error when rendering motion menus in Encore CS4

    Hello
I hope someone can help me please?
I've successfully (after 3 attempts) managed to import my PP project into Encore, created the menus etc from the presets that come with Encore (Wedding Garden menu).  When it comes to rendering the motion menus with the animated buttons option checked, after a couple of seconds it comes up with a Runtime C error - photoshop file (508) i think it is and it crashes.
It's a new system CS4, Windows 7 64bit, 2x2.40ghz quad core processor, 24gb ram, nvidfia 285 2gb graphics card - do you need to know anything else?
I've rendered the motion menus without ticking the animate buttons option on the 3 menus I have (it's a wedding dvd - main menu and 2 sub menus with animated thumbnails) and its worked.  This is ok as a workaround but I'd really like to be able to have the menu thumbnails animated.
    Many thanks

Thanks v much i'll certainly give that a try -
if it helps - I managed to make a note of the error message after I had sent my initial posting on this topic.

  • CS4 to CS6 After Effects Color Issue with Linked Photoshop Files

Hi, I just recently converted a CS4 project into CS6 and everything work wonderfully except that the photoshop files are different in color.  I know this because I took screenshots of the video I was working with and edited them in Photoshop before importing them back in to the project so I know the color should match.  This screenshot may help (as you can see I've increased the brightness and contrast in the affected area so that you may see what is happening.  There is a Photoshop layer that is covering up a number of scratches on the guiter (it is very beat up) and in the original (CS4) project they hid them perfectly while in the CS6 project they are clearly there.
I am not sure why the Photoshop files are acting differently but they are.  I need to re-export, please help if possible.  Thank you so much.  Jason.

In Bridge, my color settings are shown as synchronized (some kind of universal deal I guess), but the Photoshop files and the After Effects file are not color managed.  What is confusing me is how completely "not color managed" files can interpret RGB values for anything different than their face value?
    My Workaround (Not a Solution):
In light of how specific this problem is, I've decided to simply match the Photoshop files to the After Effects footage with a gamma adjustment using a levels effect.  For this situation settings the levels to .88 corrected the problem.  However, exporting the project from Premiere results in a darker movie file than the orginal so I was forced to correct the gamma on the export as well.  The new export (after the corrections) looks less appealing to me but as a standalone product is acceptable.

  • Do transition effects created as a layered Photoshop file transfer to FCP?

I can transfer my photoshop files to FCP but layers are stacked with loss of transition effects applied. Is there a way round this?

FCP is Final Cut Pro. I import the PSD files to an event in the library on
FCP as a PSD file. Tutorials suggest that FCP will retain many of the layer
features created in Photoshop, but recommend rasterizing. Rasterizing
however removes transition animations so the layers are left as they are -
as smart objects. On import to FCP the layers are stacked and without the
animation. Instead I am now working in Photoshop with keyframes, rendering
before adding clips to FCP. Helen

  • After Effects error: Photoshop file format error 1. (45::35)???

I keep getting this error when trying to RAM preview my file. It happens at different places each time. I don't have any Photoshop files importing into my movie. I just have Maya file sequences, a music clip and three solid layers with filters applied to them.
I'm using AE CS5 but everything else Photoshop, etc. is CS4. I didn't have this issue when using AE in trial.
This is stopping me from rendering my movie. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I have there very simple rendering setup using Maya Software renderer. The problem is that it started all of a sudden on all parts that have sequences, while it all worked just a day ago. I also noticed that if I restart AE, it may become workable again, but then it is as if touching some corrupted file at some point after a while becomes frenzy and starts giving this error in any part of the comp, where maya sequence is present. I’m still experimenting with it, trying to locate, if I can really locate anything, because no files were changed since I rendered them.
Anyway, I’ve attached snipped screen copies of maya renderer option for one of the parts. Others are different only in file name and number of frames. Pls let me know if you need something else,
    Thanks!

  • Any way to make Motion Effect work in CS3?

I had some problems with animated motion effects in CS2, but now they seem to be even worse in CS3... Along with all the other CS3 problems I've encountered, I'm considering going back to CS2 - but I thought I'd try here first...
With an interlaced video project (NTSC SD) anything (title, photo, or video) that is put in motion using keyframes for the built-in Motion Effect comes out VERY bad.
I tried a test with a clip that is only three frames long, consisting of white box approx. 100x100 pixels (made via Titler) and starting at frame 0, offset horizontally by 360 and at the 3rd frame (frame 2) offset horizontally by 380. (20 pixel shift)
FIRST PROBLEM: Look at the frame 0 and frame 1 in the program monitor at 100%. Now try any other magnification - completely different results!!
SECOND PROBLEM: To export these three frames, I have to set the work area bar to include FOUR frames, because if I animate motion of a clip and then export, the last frame is SOMETIMES not included in the output file. If you're playing along, output five frames just to be sure.
THIRD PROBLEM: Open the clip in Photoshop. (The only application in CS3 that appears to work correctly.) At first glance, frame one appears to be interlaced because of the motion. But it's not. The second field is nowhere near where it should be in time relative to the movement. If you use an actual photo instead of a white box, you can see how badly it's mangled. (Not just fields in wrong position, but badly mangled.)
FOURTH PROBLEM: Frame 1 and 2 (the 2nd and third frame) are also badly mangled.
FIFTH PROBLEM: The fourth frame (frame 3) consists of the the final resting place of the object - BUT IT SHOULDN'T BE THERE AT ALL! (The 4th frame is blank.)
I know, I know, long rant... I'm just getting so fed up with all of the problems with CS3...
Anyway, are there other alternatives that will work on interlaced video??? (For now, I had to create a different project that was progressive, and render to a temp file to import into the interleaved project. It looks better, but not nearly as smooth of motion as it should be.)

    Please provide
these details to help us help you.
    Cheers

  • Photoshop files into LiveType

    Hi everyone.
I was wondering if anyone of you knew how to import a photoshop cs2 file into LiveType without merging all the layers and being able to modify the already existing text created on Photoshop.
Every time I import a photoshop file with several layers, containing text on each layer the file comes up as a 1 layer image, meaning that I cannot modify the existing text. The only workaround that i've found has been to redo all the images on LiveType, but that is very time consuming for several "slides."
I am using LiveType 2.1, Final Cut Pro 5.1 and Photoshop CS2.
Any ideas, suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

About AE...I've use that before but I honestly don't like the final product that you get out of it. I dunno, to me motion and now livetype seem like....liquid, while After Effects still seems cartoonish. dunno another way to explain it.< < </div>
Bizarre observation, utterly unfounded position to assume. AE's output is a direct result of design decisions or operator error.
I do understand that fact that it requires another workflow, but I was assuming now that Photoshop has become a standard format for input and output (even Maya uses it, which they don't import/export from/to any other program).< </div>
This is an incorrect assumption and a dangerously myopic misperception. Photoshop is not a standard for anything. CS supports a large collection of "standard" image formats including psd, png, dng, pdf, jpg, tif, gif. While there are standards defined for formats, there are no standard production tools in this industry. Not a single one.
Besides that, there is the fact of simplicity. It is much harder on AE to great an animated text than just select special effects/glow...done.< </div>
I'm not commenting on this except to say one learns to use the tools one has at one's disposal or one learns to use the tools for which one has an affinity.

  • How to achieve the distort motion effect ala Final Cut Pro in Premiere CS4?

    Newbie here.
I have just recently started with video editing. In Final Cut Pro I have the option to distort a still image in the motion/effects panel. In premiere cs4 I only find the option to scale it up/down without the option to individually distort the four corners. Does anyone know how this can be done in premiere cs4?
The effect i am going for is the same as in Apples presentation of iPad. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/specialevent0110/
I have an presentation wich I need to insert all the slides from the powerpoint presentation in the video.
Any help would be appreciated. ( I have searched around for an solution, but without results)
    Regards T

Here is a resource, that deserves a bookmark, the PrPro-Wiki. Plenty of great FAQ articles and tutorials.
I see the "Distort" part of the Effect in FCP, but the "Motion" aspect was throwing me. I kept thinking Posterize Time, and that is anything but what you were looking for. That's why I was going to head to Google for the FCP Help files, or similar.

  • Adobe Encore - Background Video Rendering & 'Photoshop File Error - 1'

Hi, I am having serious problems with Adobe Encore at the moment, and really need help fast.
I am currently making a DVD project where:
I have used Photoshop to create the buttons (It's just the two buttons/options created in groups with the text and their highlights. There is no background).
Once that was done, I created a spearate animation in After Effects that allowed images to change from one to the next.
I exported this as an MPEG so that it could be inserted as a background video in Encore.
So I went back to Encore, inserted the buttons and my background video, created the motion properties so that the video would play behind the buttons (and I did the same for audio). Then I went to preview it, and clicked 'render' and it wouldn't! It just pops up 'Photoshop File Error-1'.
I read that other people have the same problem and have tried editing the psd with the buttons, but still nothing has helped!!!
    Can someone please help me??
I would really appreciate it. Thank You
By the way, I am using MAC OS X Version 10.9.2 (Mavericks), if that matters.

    >alert them to the problem, and fix it?
Will never be fixed... CS6 is done
CS6 is the final Encore http://www.adobe.com/products/encore/faq.html
-see #8 here for why http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1337952?tstart=0
    >So how exactly do you 'create a small partition on my drive just for the old OS X'?
That would be a question to ask Apple, or in an Apple forum

  • Importing Photoshop Files

I'm attemting to import photoshop files into a Motion project as I have done in the past. But now, for some reason, when I do so now, instead of my image I get a graphic imported that is all white and has the text "This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image" in about six different languages. I've tried flattening the image first, but that doesn't seem to help.
I would appreciate any help with this if anyone else has been able to overcome it. I'm running Motion 2.0.1 on a G5 with 2GB RAM.
    Thanks.

    josh,
did you ever find a solution to this issue of yours? i just encountered it and it's caused by a preference setting in photoshop meant to maximize file compatibility. i opened the same layered .psd in after effects with no issue which wasn't surprising. searched here and saw your post. then, which i should have done immediately, i searched the photoshop manual and found the solution. search is always my friend.
    from the photoshop manual:
--To maximize compatibility with previous versions of Photoshop and with other applications (Photoshop):
    Do one of the following:
In Windows, choose Edit > Preferences > File Handling.
In Mac OS, choose Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling.
Choose Always from the Maximize PSD File Compatibility menu. This saves a composite (flattened) image along with the layers of your document.

  • Error in exporting photoshop file

We have several copies of After Effects being used in the office.  Both myself and another user have encountered a problem saving as photoshop layers.  It gets 87% or so into it and then gives the error; "error in exporting photoshop file" in the info window.  Any thoughts?

I don't think expressions should have any influence on teh matter. They are just another way of formulating an animation stream value just like keyframes. Icould think of a few things:
    - The new pixel aspect ratio handling in CS4. Due to the conversion, something may happen to the source footages.
    - Layer styles. this may cause a "cyclic use" of the Photoshop engine. Some of that stuff has changed quite a bit for CS4 to accomodate Ps Live 3D and teh new adjustment layer model.
    - Hardware accelerated effects. CS4 passes through OpenGL acceleration through all comps. Using an effect that uses it and happens to think it doesn#t need to fall back into software only mode, may cause a hiccup.
    - MediaCore. Similar to the previous, it uses hardware acceleration and may show weird behaviors, varying solely based on differences in graphics cards.
In particular for the last two points I would think it is what makes the difference between your systems. One of them has not enough juice on OpenGL, so it's "safe". I'd definitely investigate along those lines.

  • How to use the same element in different photoshop files?

It occurs to me often that I use the same element in different photoshop files, a header or footer shown in the example below. So when the footer changes in one document, I need to change this footer in every other single document.
Is there a possibility to use some kind of template, one single document,  that can be placed in different files , which is still editable afterwards?
    Thanks in advance.
    I'm using Photoshop CS6

In a single document you can have several pages and these pages may have headers and footers that share smart objects.  If you replace the contents of the an embedded smart object on one page page that is shared on an other page the pages you will see both pages contents are changed. For they share the common object.   It is also possibly to have independent smart object layers. It depends how you create the layers in the single document.
Example one sharing a smart object hi-light a smart object layer and use menu layer>Duplicate Layer... This will create a second smart object layer that share a common smart object. Each layer has is own associated transform. Do it again and you will have three layers the share a common smart object. So you can use each layer associated transform to position and size the layers contents. Make a picture package for example. When you hi-light any of the three smart layers and you use menu Layer>Smart Objects>Replace Contents... all three layers contents will be replace with the new smart object.  Care must be taken to replace the smart object with an identical size object for only the object is replaced the three associated transform for the three layers are not replaced or changed.
Example two independent smart objects  hi-light a smart object layer and use menu layer>Smart Objects>New Smart Object via Copy.  This will  create a second smart object layer that has it own embedded smart object copy.  Do it again and you will have three all have independent embedded smart object that are identical.  However they do not have to remain identical.  For example if the first smart object layer was created by using ACR to open a RAW file as a smart object layer the embedded object is a copy of the raw file and its associated RAW conversion settings.  Double clicking on one of the smart object layers and you will see ACR open on its embedded RAW file with the embedded RAW conversion setting.  Changing these settings will update the layer smart object content with new ACR setting and pixel when you click OK in ACR. Repeat for the third and you will find you have three different raw conversions in Photoshop you can mask and blend together to bring out detail.
I think what your missing is that a smart object contains a copy of the original object.  Changing the original after creating a smart object layer in document will not effect the smart object layer at all. Its independant from the original having a copy of the original. Only changes to the smart object layer and its embedded smart object effect smart object layers.

  • Photoshop File with Layered Set to Multiply Not Honored in InDesign CS3

I am placing a PSD file from Photoshop CS3, that has a reflection/shadow layer set to Multiply with an additional layer of the model set to Normal within Photoshop. When I place this PSD in InDesign CS3, the Multiply inside of the Photoshop file is not honored.
    Is this Normal Behavior?
    Thanks

    Hey all,
I've encountered this same problem in CS3, and for the life of me, I thought I remember in CS2 that the layers were indeed honored--hence the advantage of using native PSD files in InDesign. This was so any effects (transparency or otherwise) would be carried over in the InDesign file, therefore removing the limitations of using legacy formats like TIFF or EPS, which did not allow this type of dynamic workflow.
Give us your thoughts on this, as it has hindered a couple of jobs in CS3 which required the effects exactly as explained above by the OP.
    Thanks!
