Photoshop files don't behave like sequences in FCE$

I made a graphic in PS CS3 (on a PC) and saved it as a .psd file. Added it to a project in FCE. I know PS files are supposed to go into the timeline as separate video tracks, but it won't work that way. Is it because it was made on a PC and not a Mac? I have maximize compatibility checked in preferences.

• PSE2 file, made on a Mac, 3 layers incl. transparency, gets imported into FCE4 as 'tracks' and incl. transparency
• same 'pic' made with Pixelmator, and saved as .psd does NOT show layers/tracks and NO transparency..
=> I assume, the implementation of the .psd-format in Pixelmator needs some .. improvement.

Photoshop files don't come in as sequence

Hi all-
When I import a .psd file into FCP, it comes in as one layer. The icon in the bin isn't a sequence icon, it's the same icon as the "Video Generators" in my effects bins (the ones that say "ABC"). These files were created on a windows version of Photoshop, not sure what version number.
When I create a file in photoshop here (CS2) on the Mac and bring it in, it brings it in as it's supposed to, transparency, layers, and all....
I've done some searching on the boards and help... Nothing so far. Found this one, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1076866&#1076866 , but it didn't help...
Any ideas? I hope this is something simple, and I"m just missing it... Thanks...

When you open the PC created files in Photoshop CS, does it preserve the layers? If so, I'd think a resave from CS is all you have to do to preserve the layers in FCP. If they have been flattened though, you don't have the layers in the original file anymore, and the only fix is another copy of these originals that isn't flattened.

Podcasts don't behave like songs anymore

I listen to a number of short podcasts.
Previously I could drag them into a playlist, where they would play one after another, just like songs.
With the latest iTunes/iPod update this behavior has changed:
When a podcast is over, it goes back to the main screen, awaiting a new selection. This is a big issue, since driving in the car it is not exactly safe to go scrolling back to my playlist and select a new podcast every 3 or 4 minutes.
Is there any way to revert to the old behavior? I don't want to go back to an older version, since I also use Nike+iPod

When you connect the iPod (iPhone) and select it in the sidebar of iTunes, there is a separate tab for Podcasts. You have to select the setting on that tab to sync your podcasts.
(I don't have an iPhone, but I'm assuming it works the same way as a regular iPod.)

Bounced files don't sound like mix

Help! My mixes sound great but then after I bounce them they sound totally different.
I get a nice mix going in the "arrange" section. Every track is going to "output 1-2". No clipping, everything sounds sweet. Then when I bounce the project and listen to the mp3 that was created it clips and sounds like it has entirely different eq/compression settings. What am I missing?

It seems to be specific to iTunes. If I listen to mp3's through quicktime they sound true to the mix in Logic. But if I take THAT mp3 and drop it in iTunes it clips and sounds like a different mix. I'm stumped and frustrated.

Photoshop Files Displayed in FCE

When I import layered Photoshop files into FCE to be used in a slideshow, they appear compressed at the sides, whereas jpegs display normally (both are sized 4:3).
That being said, when I save the very same Photoshop files as jpegs and import them into FCE, they display normally.

Layers files import as sequences. FCE makes no adjustment for pixel aspect ratio. That has to be done prior to importing the sequence. Flattened images are treated as graphics files and the pixel aspect ratio is adjusted by the application.

Open 100 files in one photoshop file

Hi,
I need to open 100 files in one Photoshop file.
I would like to have those 100 files on a different layer.
Is there a way to do this faster than opening each of them and copying them one by one in a file?

Hi Dedinne.
A simple action should do it. It is run as a batch on your source images.
1. Select All.
2. Copy.
3. Close
4. Paste.
The target image is created and left open before the action is run on the source images.
Batch opens the source image.
1. & 2. Copy the source image.
3. Closes the source image.
4. Pastes into the target image, which remains open during the process receiving each image in turn.

if you have a win os you should have dl'd an exe and a 7z file.
put both in the same directory and double click the exe.

Photoshop droplets don't work after file.copy();

I wrote a script to backup all of my files in a directory, like this
fileObj = File('~/Desktop/Vendor Swatches.app');
fileObj.copy('~/Desktop/BACKUP/' + fileObj.name);
I noticed that when it copies my Photoshop Droplets, they no longer work. If you look at the attached image, you can see the file before and after copying. The end file is also listed as "Application (Classic)". Does anybody know why this is happening? Or any way to prevent it?

I don't use File.copy() myself it creates a 'NEW' file which makes it pretty useless to me. My Retrospect back-ups would be never ending. It looks like form your images you are making a copy across from mounted server? From a personal point of view I would have the system do the copy/moving of files… Here are a few functions that may be of use to you… Copying files/folders you could do this with the shells 'cp' or 'ditto'

.PSD file doesn't look like in Adobe Photoshop

Hi everybody!
I have problem with Adobe Fireworks CS4 trial. My friend created a .psd file in Adobe Photoshop and sent it to me. When I opened it, some layers didn't look like in Adobe Photoshop. They had 50% opacity, but in Photoshop was set only 20%. Some layers had diferent color. In Photoshop was set white, but in Fireworks i saw yellow.
Do you have any ideas, how to solve the problem ?

Was the original file done in CMYK?
8 bit - RGB

The most frustrating thing is difference in the opacity between Photoshop and Fireworks. It gives me more work to do.

Try the following steps,
Sign into your computer and removal of credit card information. Here are the steps:
1) Open iTunes and sign in to the iTunes Store.
2) Select "View My Account" from the Store menu.
3) Enter your password and click the View Account button.
4) Click the Edit Payment Information button.
5) Select "None" as the payment type.
6) Click the Done button at the bottom of the page.

Download a free content on to get recognized in iTunes.
To ensure your account is functioning, try downloading a free item from the iTunes Store. After you are able to download the free App try updating the billing information as usual.

Multilayer Photoshop file not sequence in FCP

FCP has taken up importing a multilayered Photoshop file as flat picture clip, not as a multitrack sequence (it used to do this : >). How do it get back to importing multilayered Photoshop files as a multitrack sequences? I am using FCP 5.4.1

Sorry, one more stupid question:
When you open this clip, do all the layers appear as if they have been flattened in PS, or is it just one layer of the stack?
Now a not so stupid question:
Can you post a link to the PSD file so I could download and try it on my system?
Many strange behaviors in FCP can be remedied by trashing you FCP preferences. My next suggestion would be to do that and then restart the application and see if you have the same behavior.

.indd file behaving like an .indl file.

One of my .indd files is behaving like an .indl file. Anyone know how to get my .indd file back? The .indd file opens as if it is a library instead of a document.

That looks normal enough. Just this one file giving you trouble?
There are two things we could try next. First would be Replace Your Preferences. Next would be trying to open on another machine and do a Save AS and see if it can be cleaned up. Maybe even, if it opens properly on another system, try Remove minor corruption by exporting before bringing it back to your Mac.

Do a media manage of the sequence converting the files to the appropriate HD format making the clips offline. Then simply reconnect the offline clips to the HD clips. There may be issues in the file names, but they can usually be worked out either with the naming options in media manager or renaming your hd files. There are many utilities that allow you to batch rename files.
