Photoshop filters greyed out in CMYK mode

Why filters in Photoshop CC work only in RGB mode/8-bit. In CMYK they are greyed out?
there is a trick which is to apply filters to individual channels, but why is it has to be that painful?
im working on Windows 7 64-bit, Adobe CC.

Not all filters and functions work in all colour modes and bit depths, that is just the way things work. You can always convert from CMYK to RGB, apply your filters and then convert back to CMYK. But of course that is not an optimal way to go in regards to maintaining as much detail information as possible in your images. It's always best to stick with RGB for as long as possible and do the conversion just before print.

  • Lightroom " Edit in" menu drop to work on Photoshop is grey out?

Lightroom “ Edit in” menu drop to work on Photoshop is grey out, even though I have my “store preset with this catalog” unchecked. Do I have to reinstall LR?

Your photos are never "in" the catalog. The catalog just points to your images in their folders on your hard drive. Do you understand what smart previews are and how they are supposed to be used? Are your images on an external hard drive that is disconnected from your computer?

  • Why are Distort filters greyed out in Photoshop CC?

Trying to make a text spiral along a path using the Twirl filter in a Photoshop CC trial.  All the distort filters are greyed out.  Is this a feature not offered in the trial, or am I doing something else wrong?

  • Edit in photoshop is greyed out

I have read all the forums and search engine finds on this question:
Edit in Photoshop selection is greyed out in lightroom cc  (also have Photoshop cc 2014)
I have tried all the suggested fixes  ( registry edit, re-install in all various combinations , all of them )
Still will not function properly (Edit in photoshop  selection still greyed out , in fact all selections, are greyed out)
Seems this started when I recently applied the "update" to light room last week..  any way to go back to previous version ?
Has anyone at adobe have an answer to this ?
    Thank you in advance...

    sonsteby,
You didn't describe any problem, except for not being able to re-install. And your problem is not the same as brownwood1 had.
Your problem is probably from passing a 16-bit file to Photoshop, and most of the filters only work on 8-bit files. You can change Bit Depth in your preferences:
or you can change mode in PS on an individual basis:

  • Re-installation of PS CC 64 bit 2014: filters greyed out???

My PC (Win 7) computer had to be reformatted. I am reinstalling software. I downloaded and reinstalled Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 (64bit). When I open it and open an image, most dropdown items under menu items are greyed out. This includes almost all filters (Blur, Noise, etc. plus my NIK and Topaz filters--installed under Plugins folder). How do I fix that?

Da...Simple answer...PS CC opened my layered photo, but didn't automatically select a layer. When I selected a layer, the menu items became active. Now I just have to figure out why my NIK filters freeze up PS CC whenever I click on them! That's probably a simple thing, like a reinstallation registration number, which I can't find!

  • PhotoShop Filters grayed out when using Aperture

I sent some photos from Aperture to PS to add some frames. Used the Texture filter and all went well for 3 photos. Then it quit working. Some of the filters are grayed out. I tried the same thing from Lightroom and it was the same. All worked fine with iPhoto. If I export the photos to another folder, desk top etc., then open them in PS, all the filters are working. But for some reason some of the filters will not work when opening a photo from Aperture to PS.
Any suggestion why some filters would quit when they worked before?
    Thanks, Allie

That's because you have ACR set to 8 bit and you have Aperture set to 16 bit. (Clicking the text that looks like a web link at the bottom of the ACR window is how you change it)
You could change Aperture's external editor preferences to send 8 bit instead of 16 bit.
    Or
Once in Photoshop you could change it: Image>> Mode >> 8 Bit as I think Steve was suggesting.

  • Fields not greyed out in display mode in screen exit

    Hi all,
i am working on an screen exit for CJ02 transaction. the values in the customer subscreen are getting updated in database and even it is reflecting in fields when viewed again. the problem is that in display mode (CJ03) the fields are still editable. though there is no save button, but the fields should be greyed out.
i have tried to modify screen using LOOP AT SCREEN in the function exit provided in PBO.....but it is not picking the subscreen.
please provide any solution as soon as possible.
    thanks in advance

In the PBO in your screen exit:
    IF sy-tcode EQ 'CJ03'.
    LOOP AT SCREEN .
    if screen-name 'your field'
    screen-input = 0.
    screen-output = 1.
    MODIFY SCREEN.
    ENDIF.
    endif.
    what enhancement are you using?
    bye

  • Edit in Photoshop CS5 greyed out in LR4 and LR3

Since one of the many upgrade to LR3 I have not been able to edit in photoshop, it is greyed out.  I thought the upgrade to LR$ would deal with this but it has not. I have tried the upgrade to beta 6.7 but this does not help. Would removing CS5 and reinstalling help?  Very frustrating.

  • "Edit in Photoshop": Why is Photoshop is greyed out?

I have LR 3.2 and PS CS5 Extended installed on a Win 7 64 bit PC.  Preferences|External Editing shows Photoshop but when I choose an image and right click, Edit in shows Photoshop greyed out.  (Also when chossing Edit In from the Photo drop-down menu.  I have tried reinstalling ("repair" option) LR but LR does not detect PS.  Any suggestions?

Reinstalling CS5 did the trick.  Thanks.

  • PS CS6 Filters greyed out for Timeline clips - what's wrong?

    Hi
I've just watched an Adobe TV video by Julianne Kost about video features in PS CS6.
At one point she converts a video clip into a Smart Object in order to apply a PS filter, but when I do this, the entire Filters menu is greyed out.
The mp4 clip plays normally in the Timeline otherwise.
Is there something I have to do to make this work?
    Cheers
    Richard

I tried the same procedure again, but this time the filters were available. Not sure what was different - will repost if I can reproduce original issue.
    Thanks

  • PS filters greyed out when sending from lr

When I send an LR photo for editing in PS CC, some of the filters are greyed out: artistic, brush strokes, distort, pixelate, sketch, and texture. but when I open the photo directly in PS, they are there. What's going on?

Are any of these from a plug-in or via Adobe Marketplace? I just opened an unedited DNG via Lightroom 5.3. My PS CC install is pretty clean, only plug-ins are the OnOne Suite, ver 8. Anyway...... I am missing almost every filter you have listed above. The ones I do have, Distort & Pixelate, both seem to be fine. That is what makes me wonder if there is something else in the mix here.....? Can you provide a bit more information regarding any plug-ins you may be using in either PS or LR as well as any 3rd party filters you may have added (or carried over from conversion)?  Screen shot attached for comparison:

  • Filters greyed out in large PSB file

    Hi there
Can anyone point me in the direction of answer to this question....
I'm running CS3 on an Intel Mac 2x2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon 5GB ram
    And I've got a 310cm x 61cm 2.2 gig file. (it's for a stage backdrop)
I'm in a PSB file RGB, 8 bit and i can't get to any filter effects.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards
    John

Many filters have limits on the size of image they can process.
But other filters will work with any size image.
And telling us the physical dimensions of the document don't tell us anything about the pixel size or memory footprint. (file size and document size are very different things)

  • Intermittant greying out of filters in photoshop cs4?

    Greetings everyone
This is probably a stupid question but why does photoshop occasionally grey out some of my filters?
Its often when i have a vector smart object [ie imported from IL], but even if i rasterize it, the filters remain grey and unusuable. not sure what convert for smart filters is meant to do - does anyone know? doesn't seem to do anything for me.
at the bottom of the page i have enclosed a picture of  my problem
i'm stumped here and heap thanks upon you in advance
