Photoshop  Font Warning "Update" Not Wanted/Needed

I am working with provided Photoshop CS3 files. When I open most of them, I get the missing font dialogue window. The option is to "Update" or "No".
In the past I have always clicked on "Update" and continued to work with the file. If needed, I would open the needed font with Font Agent Pro and got on with the job, no problem.
My new client provided Photoshop files only require that I click "No" not to update.
When I do so, I am getting font substitution instead of the file opening up with it's existing bitmap/raster of the font screen rep.
In this particular instance, the bitmap screen rep is all I need.
Usually the substitution is "Myriad Pro". If I disable "Myriad Pro" then "Lucida" is accessed for some reason.
I need to be able to click on "No" (do not update) and get on with my life.
I have searched the forum and didn't find any reference to this particular problem.
I am working on a Mac Pro (2006), 5 GB RAM, OS 10.4.11, Photoshop CS2, Font Agent Pro 4.0.3
Any Suggestions?
Thanks for any advice anyone might have.
Kenny

Update:
CS4 basically solved all of my font client problems. But, after 3 weeks of using it I have noticed small weirdness in Photoshop. After a couple of weeks, one day the cursor would revert to the move tool hand, I could select other tools but the hand tool stayed active and the tool I selected would still be overridden by the hand tool. I would have to quit Photoshop and reopen it then everything worked properly. This happened several times over a 2 day period last week. Weird.
Also, at one point the cursor position would be off about an 1/8" high. Meaning I would have to position the cursor an 1/8" up from the layer or guide I was trying to select. Rebooting Photoshop solved this each time. Weird.
Regarding the font thing. CS4 still replaces fonts even though I tell it not to when opening a file. But, I can immediately undo after the file opens and the replace font thing is undone. Weird. There seems to be 3 font warning dialogue windows that occur with a file. The "update fonts or NO" font warning is the one that replaces fonts when I tell it NO. Weird, Weird, Weird.

  • CC and Photoshop CC just do not want to properly work.

Okay so this is starting to become a major problem which I am getting stressed out about and it is taking a huge chunk out of my ability to work.
    OS: Win 7 (x86)
Last Thursday I purchased CC and downloaded Photoshop CC, everything installed fine aside from this weird glitch that CC causes to "explorer".
---- After CC finishes installation it crashes "explorer". The toolbars are gone, you cannot right-click the desktop or do anything. Basically I have to go in to Task Manager, end the "explorer" process and restart it to get it all to come back.
After CC shows back up and that is out of the way I download Photoshop CC without problems (right? yeah, whoo hoo...kinda.)
---- All I have to say is that thank god that my plugins (Eye Candy and brushes do not get removed when I have to use this damn cleaner tool every time. See below for explanation on cleaner tool...)
Photoshop finishes downloading, I launch it and everything is fine. At least for that night. The problem starts when I shut my computer down and start it back up in the morning. From Friday till Sunday I did not turn the computer on or do anything (as I was away for the weekend), yet when I turned everything on Sunday night I come to find out that the applications just do not work for whatever reason. CC refuses to launch and it's icons are blank, Photoshop refuses to launch and it's icons are blank. I go into my computer to find the folders to see what has happened and sure enough the files for all that stuff are still there but anything ending with .exe has a blank application icon and will not launch whatsoever. Strange, right? Hell I even tried to open everything in Administrator mode and it still wouldn't fix it. The only difference between trying to run it normally and trying to run it through Administrator mode is that with Photoshop it says this: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions." then asks me if I want to remove all the icons.
    Uh...what? Seriously?
So I figured there was a botched install. I remove all of CC and Photoshop CC using the Adobe Cleaner tool to get rid of everything and start over with reinstalling everything again. Same issue happened with CC crashing "explorer" and all that, installed Photoshop CC without an issue... everything ran fine then I shut the computer down for the night only to reboot Tuesday and the same thing happens. At this point enough is enough, I contact support and deal with a huge process of checking files and all that for almost FOUR HOURS with this lady on tech support, including having her remote desktop my computer to watch. We basically did the same thing from the night before to remove all the files and redownload everything. I figure at the end of the session that we actually got it fixed - I mean come on, the tech person went out of their way for four hours to help resolve this. (And yes, the lady was great about it.) She figured that the Application Manager file was corrupted and wasn't accepting my license or something; thus we also redownloaded a new version of that.
Yeah...no... I got back on today and the SAME thing happened.
I cannot work with this product in this way, something has to be changed/patched/updated or something to resolve this issue asap. I literally cannot do my work, I cannot progress with my projects or do anything with this mess.
None of the people that I have spoken to can figure out what this issue is. I have done no updates to my computer system or any of that in between installs either. I literally remove the products, install the products, and then shut the computer down. I honestly am about to give up...

Touchdown has that option. It is a great app and worth the money.

  • Font showing in photoshop font list but not showing in the flash font list

    Hi,
I have some issues with fonts. I am using a Mac OS X and i have installed the fonts into font book.
The installed fonts are showing up in my Photoshop CS3 font list but are missing from my Flash CS3 and CS4 font lists.
    I am using .otf fonts.
Any help will be really appreciated .
    Thanks,

    Jude,
I don't know what the problem may be, sorry.
Since the fonts are not from Adobe, you'll have to either contact the foundry from which you've licensed them or post this issue on the Flash forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/flash/flash_general

  • My font menu does not want to drop down, not even in caracters? is it because i have to many fonts? Beacause it use to always work. Can i change it back?

Everytime i click on my type drop down bar,  nothing wants to drop down, so this leaves me to use my arrow keys to look for a font and this takes forever. Not even in the caracter bar the fonts drops down? how come is this happening? Is it because of to many font?
    Thanks for your help.

    Tanja,
It may be time for the list of things to try to uncorrupt things.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Photoshop 12.x Updates Not Available in The Expected Place

Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes...
Occasionally I like to quote a link when answering people about the place to get various Photoshop updates for Windows systems.
Up to now this has been:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=39&platform=Windows
At the moment, it doesn't appear that there are any Photoshop 12.0.x updates listed there at all.  Is this an intentional omission?  There are updates for all the older versions.
    Thanks.

For what it's worth, I don't have OpenCL capability in 32 bit Photoshop either, and I have an ATI card.
Notably the 32 bit Adobe GPU sniffer application says nothing about OpenCL support.  It may just be something they don't do (though I have never been able to get them to say so).  It would make sense for them to concentrate on 64 bit mostly, since there's no Macintosh 32 bit version at all.
As far as I understand it, if you don't have OpenCL, Photoshop will attempt to implement GPU programming via OpenGL shader, so you may not be missing anything at all.
FYI, here are respective sniffer outputs:

  • Software Update Not Recognizing Needed Updates

On my iMac, I needed to re-install Leopard - following which, Software Update is not recognizing that it needs to update - Safari, Mail, etc. By example, Mail is "stuck" on version 3.1. When Update runs, I get no updates available. I guess all the updated software is in the Previous System folder. What's the best strategy to fix this? - is there a way to reset what Software Update thinks it's already done or should I remove the previous system folder?
    Thanks in advance!

tried permissions - no luck there.
Thanks for the comment re having new & old versions of software - that may be the case, as after re-install of Leopard, the previous system (which in fact has the newer versions of Mail, etc) was saved to a folder.
Sorry, I'm usually more on top of these things - but I'm not really sure how SU works - I'm now assuming that it's finding the newer versions in the Previous System folder - sound right?
As a followup - is there any reason to save the "Previous System" if all is working after a reinstall?

  • InDesign CC / Cloud Fonts - Incomplete Font warning, does not export font when Packaging?

I'm using a new font from the creative cloud.  I  packaged my project and the fonts showed "incomplete fonts" and then didn't export the font, into the font folder, when packaging.  There is an AdobeFnt15.lst file in the fonts folder, which I'm not sure about?  If this is the case, how will I deliver my project to my printer when it is finished?

If you downloaded Typekit fonts from the Creative Cloud (the ones available from the Fonts menu in the Creative Cloud Desktop app), they are not packaged. They are only licensed to Creative Cloud subscribers or Typekit subscribers. They can be embedded in a PDF file or in an EPUB file or in a DPS project.
So you have two options: (1) Given the popularity of the Creative Cloud, your printer should have at least one CC subscription, then they can download  the fonts you're using. In fact, it's a relatively automatic process and I describe in the linked blog post below; or (2) you can create a PDF file they can print from.
Here's an article on how it works:

  • ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 9 Does not want to open on my MAc

Hi folks, Hopefully one of you might help me out here...I just bought the Leica VLUX2 digital camera and I tried to download the software Adobe Photoshop elements 9 to my mac but I can't open the file after it unzips...The file I can't open says, "97005050.7z" My Mac says, There is no application set to open the document “97005050.7z”. PLEASE HELP.

Never mind the ******** response above.
The problem is that you've got corrupted fonts. It took me hours to find the problem and no time at all to fix. Just open Font Book in your Applications and verify your fonts, then Trash the bad ones that get flagged. You'll have to Restart the computer afterward because fonts are loaded at startup and you can't just toss them in the Trash and expect them stop working.

  • Software Update Not Working -- need help!

Hello everyone. Was wondering if anyone could help me with an annoying problem I've now had for several weeks. My new MacBook Pro purchased in July, 2010 as well as an older iMac both will not update software automatically. In Software Update, updates are set to "daily," however the last time checked is when I did it manually. I've now tried deleting preference files in my user as well as system Library folders for Software Update and even reinstalling OS10.6. However, something must be corrupted in my user profile because it still will not perform checks automatically. They work fine when done manually. If I create a new test user with admin privileges, automatic updates work just fine. That is why I believe something is corrupting it for my specific user (Intego VirusBarrier?? Parallels?? MobileMe??). I've checked all the logs and reports and can't find any clues as to what's going on.
Anyone have ideas? Please help! Thanks.

OK. Since the issue is specific to your original user account, you can proceed in two ways. One is to log into your new account, make a list of the preference files (plists) located in /username/Library/Preferences/, including any in the ByHost subfolder, log back into the original account, move everything on that other account's list from the original account's Preferences folder into a newly created folder on the Desktop, log out and back in, and see if the problem goes away. If so, you can copy the ones in the Desktop folder (one at time) back into /Preferences/, restart, and see if the problem returns. If so, you've identified the corrupt/conflicting one. Continue with all of them until isolating the bad ones. That'll save you the trouble of resetting preferences.
The second way is much more detailed and I'll not burden you with the steps unless the above doesn't fix the issue.

  • "Incomplete font" warning when packaging a file in InDesign CS5.5?

When I package a file, any fonts that appear with an "incomplete font" warning, are not collected. But these fonts aren't incomplete at all—I have installed them from the file that I purchased from Linotype (Helvetica Neue). Can someone please tell me how to make this warning go away and have InDesign recognise that the font is in fact complete?

"Helvetica Neue" ... are you working on a Mac?
I'm asking this because Mac OS X comes with a Helvetica Neue installed -- in fact it's part of the required System set. But Apple decided the font was not good enough as it was, and made a couple of changes to it to make it work "better", and in doing so they broke a couple of things that fonts need to get printed correctly. So everyone's advice is to steer well away from using the System version of Helvetica Neue on a Mac.
Which brings me back to your assertion
    jowillis79 wrote:
I have installed them from the file that I purchased from Linotype (Helvetica Neue).
as I suggest you very carefully and thouroughly double- then triple-check that you are, in fact, using your own Helvetica Neue instead of the system one.

  • Windows Updates not working

We are having a problem with Windows update not wanting to work with the
    filters up and running.
When I drop the filtering Windows Update from the workstations works just
fine. When I have the filters up we get an error code of Error number:
0x80072EFE from the windows update which is only identified as
ERROR_INTERNET_CONNECTION_ABORTED Some network problem or the server/proxy
    reset the socket connection.
Any ideas on what filter exceptions I need to put in BM to allow this
    traffic??
    TIA!

    Do what I did.
Installed Windows System Update Service on a Windows 2003 Server. It's free.
Then I added a rule to bypass the proxy for the WSUS server only.
So WSUS server downloads direct from MS and stores them locally
The Clients download from the WSUS Server saving on bandwidth on the
    Internet Connection
    It's another work around.

    Simon.

I probably dont want to go to Mountain Lion either because I've heard that it will slow down my computer, So, Lion 10.7 will be the perfect OS X for me.
I have ne newest release of Snow Leopard installed and works great.
Thank you ALL for your help.

you will be ok updating to the new software but there will be some trade off. i have 3 macbooks 2006 that are all running the latest versions.
some of the trade off are
    1-2 less of battery life
    slow wake ups from sleep
slower start up time about 30-40 seconds longer then what you have now
the operating system will use high % of your processer while idealing
these are not the things you want to hear about a new os compared to the old one but this is how it is even with a new macbook pro. but it's not the end of the world. just make sure you have at least more then 2GB of ram and have a good harddrive and you will be ok.
