Photoshop glitching badly.

When I open a new file, the entire photoshop document area fills with chopped up images of whatever is behind it. Additionally, none of the icons in any of the panels are clickable. No tools, no adjustment presets, can't drag sliders in color panel. I can access tools by using the shortcuts, and the tool icon will appear to be depressed. If I resize the document, the glitches go away, but the document centers on the upper right or lower right of the document area. If I try to resize after it gets stuck, it resizes, but remains centered on the corner. I've attached an image of the stuck document, but for some reason I can't reproduce the chopped image glitch. Instead, documents now open in the corner without glitching.

Managed to fix this by updating to 13.0.3.

Os windows 7 trying to install PhotoKit 2.06 in CS4 getting 'Owl Orphanage: Photoshop.exe - Bad Image. Have tried downloading Photokit from a different source - same problem. How can I get this to install please?

Has anyone had a problem installing PhotoKit 2.06 in CS4? I keep getting 'Owl Orphanage: Photoshop.exe Bad Image. I have tried installation files from 2 different sources without success. Pixel Genius suggested dropping the unzipped files directly into Plug-ins - that didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am in touch with Pixel Genius, the plug-in developer, and so far ( this has been going on for 5 days) a solution has not been forthcoming, hence my post. The required files are shown in Windows Explorer but will not load when I fire up CS4. Previously, I ran version 1.2.4 of PhotoKIt without a problem but that was uninstalled to make way for the latest software. Pixel Genius have asked me to open up CS4 Help, System info, and send it to them which I have done. I wait in hope!

"Photoshop.exe - Bad Image" error [CS3]

Hi everyone,
I use Photoshop CS3, and every time I go to open a new document or open a saved document/picture/etc. I get a "Photoshop.exe - Bad Image" error that reads:
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\HPZRPP04.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
I have to "OK" this message 4 times until I am able to use the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried updating or reinstalling your HP printer? If it's a network printer, try setting up a local printer as the default printer and see if that error goes away.

Why saving as transparenct Gif in photoshop gives bad output

Picture display quality in Photoshop is bad

I bought a new camera and bought Photoshop Elements 9 with it. I took a bunch of pictures and was very disapointed with the camear's picture quality (or so I thought). I then returned the camera. As I was awaiting my new one, I decided to post to some forums about my poor image quality with the camera (A Lumix DMC-LX5) to see if maybe the camera was actually defective since it gets such good reviews. As I was posting the pictures, I realized that they looked great when displayed in Firefox. So I opened the images in every program I had installed that could display pictures and found the following:

Windows Picture Viewer
The image below (best viewed in one of the "good" programs), shows a good image on the left opened in Quicktime Picture Viewer, and the bad image on the right open in Windows Picture Viewer (picture looks exactly the same in Photoshop Elements). The funny thing is that the screen shot picks up the diffrence which can be seen in any of the viewers now while the original picture only displays poorly when viewed in the "bad" viewers.
Example below: The asphalt and the grass in the picture on the right look very blotchy. The image on the left is what it looks like to the naked eye. I have dozens of pictures where this same thing can be seen.
I wouldn't care if they all were bad but Elements but seing as how I'll be looking at them mostly in organizer, I realy need to get this resolved. Any guidance would be appreciated.
One Note: This is significantly more noticable with the DMC-LX5. I don't notice this with my D90 images in RAW (the DMC-LX5 was high res jpeg).

The fact that pictures look right after disabling color management suggest that there may be a color profile problem.
Your 'good looking' softwares are not color managed (Firefox has an option to do so...)
Photoshop Elements is color managed, that is able to recognize a profile and use it.
When you open an image, in the lower bar showing the zoom %, you have another setting display drop down menu. Click on the little black triangle and choose 'Document profile'. Tell us what is shown : sRGB, AdobeRGB or whatever. Also, is there an option to select those profiles in your cameras ?
Normally you should never use the option 'No color management'. Especially if you shoot raw : in Elements, your raw files will be considered sRGB if the Editor preference is set to 'Always optimize color for computer screens', and it is considered AdobeRGB if it is set to 'Always optimize for printing'.

Menu Overlays created in Photoshop aliasing badly - help

Hello all, I'm creating a menu pages using flattened images from photoshop, once imported, if I select them in the viewer they appear good but once I apply them to a background image they alias badly. I've tried both highlight selections (simple & advanced) really no improvement. What am I missing here? I'm sure it's simple. Thanks in advance. Oh and I've set my photoshop files to 720 x 480 at 72 dpi- also tried 720x534, no improment there either.

All overlay files look un anti-aliased because the subtitle stream does not supprt antialiasing. Take any Hollywood movie and look at the overlay highlights, they have the same problem to deal with.
The key is to optimize your design to cut down on the jaggies. I use retangles as highlights all the time. Any rounded edges will show jaggies. Reducing opacity sometimes helps to hide it as does using advance overlays and creating a stroke around your highlight.

Can't reset CS2 preferences Windows XP-photoshop behaving badly

Needing to reset because Photoshop is locking up, tools and plug ins not preforming as they should. Did a search for *.psp files and didn't find any, but I'm not sure I searched correctly. I tried the CTL ALT SHFT at startup and I am not given the choice to reset preference in "General, Compatibility or Security" tab. "Security" tab gives warning that permissions can't be displayed because they are different between LR and Photoshop CS2....
Additional problem that I have posted before and have not received answer: From Lightroom 2.4 opening an image by "edit in photoshop", results in a partial font list superimposed over the image. Closing it out then re-opening within photoshop, the font list usually disappears. Opening image directly from photoshop, no font list is superimposed.
I tried Relaunch and Optimize in LR, defragged, etc.

When you get the timing wrong on the Ctrl+Alt+Shift method you get the Properties dialog which is what you are seeing. You have to be really quick to get the Reset Prefs box but it can be done, I tried it until I got it.
As far as deleting the files manually, you have to make sure in Windows Explorer that hidden files are showing and file extensions (the bit after the dot) are also showing. Then you will find the files, which are also identified in the FAQ here:

Forget it with the disk, that's for a Repair Installlation and won't affect the preference files.

Canon i9900 / photoshop printing badly

Changing nothing other (same ink, same paper, same connection) than installing Leopard, iLife '08, and a new 2TB hard drive for Time Machine, my Canon i9900 printer now prints my Photoshop documents too light. However, when I import the document to iPhoto, it prints just fine. I tried changing to ColorSync, but it did not affect the photoshop document.
How can I fix this problem?
ps- this is from my G5; my powerbook is not hooked up to my printer.

Im having weird issues with Photoshop CS3 / Leopard / Canon i9900 as well. Opposite of you things are coming out too dark - AND to make things extra weird... my Reds print ORNAGE. Like I have a clog or a mis-installed cartridge (but I don't....) I'm a professional color guy and this one has me stumped. I haven't tried i-photo but preview exhibits the same issue.
I've got a Gretag / X-Rite eye one with the latest update and made new profiles - still no help. It really appears like on the Driver or Apple end that the RGB numbers are being preserved when the data goes to print (BIG BIG BIG NO-NO). I can simulate a transform to the canon printers color space with rgb preserved in photoshop and I get on screen exactly what is happening to my prints.
I've worked on a work-around for two days and i've given up. I've got an old mac with 10.4 on it and Im going to have to use it to print from until Canon and Apple get their act together. Hopefully soon.
I'm not sure when this issue really cropped up... if it was the 10.5.2. or the graphics update.
I think all was well on 10.5.0 and 10.5.1.... The last canon driver was made for 10.5.0 I think so.... sigh... maybe we just have to wait for Canon to update something.
If you've found a work-around, please share it.

PLZ HELP - PHOTOSHOP MISBEHAVING (Bad Photoshop, Bad!)

Photoshop was working for me just fine a week ago. Only thing I may have installed since than was an upgrade patch for a game known as Diablo 3. Anyways, now when I try to open it, it almost shuts my monitor completely off, almost. The faintest of the faint can be seen, I've memorized and managed to be able to hit my "start" button (Yes, I am on PC - Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit) and go over to my "switch user option" which will then re-correct the issue with the screen, go back into my own admin user profile and there is photoshop. Now here's the even trickier part. I can click and select different tools along the side, but as soon as I try to open a new file, say the size I want it to be, etc etc and hit "open" it just locks up on me. Everything it does all this like clockwork, wtf is going on?

And c.pfaffenbichler, thanks for the response, but when I try to get into my preferences it locks up. All I can do is click different tools, everytime I do anything else like open a new file, go to preferences, anything, the program freezes.
I did also forget to mention that this is the 64 bit version (which is being used on a 64 bit platform, not 32), but my 32 bit version doesnt seem to be doing this, just the 64 bit,

Error message Owl Orphanage : Photoshop:exe-Bad Image

I am having this error with Adobe Photoshop CS5.
With reading other posts I found an answer to this same question posted - except with CS4.
It mentioned the Plug-in folder and 32 bit and 64 bit. Here is where I get confused.
I pulled plug-ins over from CS3 and put them into my CS5 plug in folder, Is that where the problem came from. How do I now clean up my mess?
I have no idea how to tell what goes with 32 bit and what goes with 64bit....You could say, I don't know my bits and you would be right. LOL
Please help. I have benn ignoring it for almost a year now.

Here's a reference list of the original files under the plug-ins folder that came with Photoshop CS5 32 bit. Note that if you've applied the updates some of the dates/sizes may be different. But you really only need the names to know whether a file has been copied by you.

Photoshop glitches my screen and disables features

Hi guys, I need some help. I was using Photoshop last night with no problem. However, when I opened it this morning, this happened. That small white square is the canvas and most of photoshop's features no longer work. That giant white L-shape is actually cutting off my entire viewing area. However, often times that white shape isn't white at all, but extremely glitchy. Case in point...
I can't think of anything that would've done this. The only thing that's been done to my Mac since last night is that I did a system software update. That's it. Does anybody know what's going on or seen something similar? This makes Photoshop completely unusable.

So I did that and it didn't work, though now I'm seeing more random things in that glitchy area, including stuff from my desktop that seems to slightly affect how I view the document if clicked.
I am really confused...

IPod glitched badly

Just a few days ago I plugged my ipod into my computer just to update some songs into it and then a window popped up and said sonthing like "There is a new ipod software 1.2.1 availible. Would you like to update it?" and i said yes. So i went and came back to see how it turned out and it said it was done updating and rebooting but the ipod diplay was all messed up like when a tv has no signal it gets all those little gray and black things everywere, exept on my ipod it they were blue and white and it was frozen. And now ever since that day whenever i move the wheel or select something it freezes and does that. I cant use my ipod at all. Ive tried restarting it and then restoring but it didnt work. I got it for Christmas 2005.

Edit Log Glitch. PS-CS3. PS won't open. Stuck. HELP!

Photoshop glitched during a save of an image that had been opened from Aperture 3, and now I can't open PS at all. Need help. The error message I get is: "Couldn't open the edit log file Photoshop Edit Log. Edit logging is disabled." I'm running Photoshop from Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard, Mac OS X 10.7.3
SInce I can't get into PS, I have no way of getting into the preferences settings.
Can anyone out there walk me through how to reset or delete the corrupted edit log and create a new one? or tell me what I need to do, since I really have no clue? :-)

Where did you tell it to save its editing steps in Photoshop Edit.log? That's where the file should be.
A general preferences reset may be required. Press and hold Control - Shift - Command immediately after doing a cold-start of Photoshop. You have to be very quick to get the keys pressed down, and if you are quick enough it will prompt you to confirm the deletion of the preferences.

Brand New Machine and Photoshop CS6 running very slow

I just installed Photoshop CS6 on my new Machine and it is running horrible. Moving around objects, turning effects on/off, zooming, and more all take for ever to render. I can not figure out why. I have updated video card drivers and more. Scratch Disk is set to a second disk and messed with all of the GPU settings. Only photoshop runs bad on this machine. Tried Photoshop at all sorts of various settings including default. All with the D drive being used for the Scratch disk. Working on the similar size file described above. The file I am working on now is 4000 x 4800 pixels, CMYK, 8 bit depth. Photoshop is slow selecting layers with auto select, very slow when moving layers around the Canvas, and slow rendering the Canvas when zooming in and out. This document also has about 30 layers and is 80mg.
I only use the 64 bit version of Photoshop these days. Also all three monitors are set at 60 Hertz. Photoshop is closed and reopened upon all changes.
I use to be a Photoshop Certified Expert in CS3 so I am extremely familar with the product. I am just stumped.
