Photoshop Graphics for Menu

Ok, I am using a template for this project I am working on. I have 6 buttons on my menu since I have to play 6 diff version of the video. The name of the buttons though, are being created on photoshop, b/c They have to be written in their own language (e. i. Korean characters). I imported these gfx into my assets but when I assigned them to their specific button I can't see them. They for some reason go behind the pane that's already there as the button. and my gfx have Alpha Channels and the alpha channel is not being recognized. I dunno what to do, it's driving me insane. I've tried everything. The help will be much appreciated

For menus in Photoshop, I like to create layered .psd files for multiple buttons like that. You can then choose which layers to show in the inspector in DVDSP. Then make an overlay layer for the buttons (tip: make it simple, like an underline or bullet point, and you only have to make one overlay later). Make sure your overlay layer is built correctly, grayscale only, and nothing with too much gradient (white=background, black=overlay). Then when you are back in DVDSP, simply drag a box around the button and overlay, and choose the overlay layer from your .psd.
Not sure if that is exactly what you were looking for, but that should at least give you another option.

  • Graphics for Menu

    Hello,
I'm creating my first real custom menu, and have created a background graphic (720x480) for it in photoshop CS. However, I'm noticing that the quality isn't really great. Do people usually create the graphics for DVDs in other apps like photoshop or just design them right in DVDSP? Also, if the former is true, how do you save the photoshop file? As a JPEG?
    Thanks,
    Matt Silva

I create the majority of my menu elements using Photoshop CS and haven't notice a problem. There are a few considerations you need to take, though:
    1) Remember that you are creating a DVD menu for television playback, and that's where it needs to look its best. Keep in mind that the menus (as will the rest of the DVD) will look worse on the computer than it will look on the TV due to the resolutions of each.
    2) When creating your graphics, avoid thin horizontal lines, and sharp high-contrast horizontal edges. Try to use horizontal lines at least four pixels thick, and choose a bold sans-serif typeface font. Additionally, all graphic elements should be anti-aliased or blended, rather than have sharp edges.
    3) Don't forget to use the 'NTSC Color Safe filter' in Photoshop to make sure the colors are TV 'safe'
Photoshop CS has a template you can use, which not only is the right dimensions, but has the action and title safe areas marked off. It defaults to saving as a PSD file, which works great in DVDSP.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 - Proper Settings for Creating Graphic for Film

Hi, I'm fairly new to Photoshop Elements. What would be the proper project settings and export settings when creating a quality graphic for using in a film? (I'm using Premiere for video editing.)
Thank you so much for your time and patience. I've been referring to google and haven't pulled up anything yet, not sure if I'm just not putting in the right terms.

  • Using a vector graphic for a button

Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Encore CS5, everything is patched, Windows 7 64-bit
I have been reading various posts, and either not seeing or not understanding something about using a vector graphic as a button on a menu.
I drew a one-color shape in Illustrator, saved it as EPS and PNG and used it in a menu designed in Photoshop. When I preview it in Encore or burn a DVD, the graphic looks awful. And I'd like to use highlighting with it so it changes color when selected but that is another problem....
To start the menu, I used the Photoshop preset NTSC DV Widescreen which has a pixel aspect ratio of 1.21. Then I added background graphics and so on. Each button is contained in a layer group named (+)PlayAll, etc. In each layer group is a text layer that doesn't have a prefix (e.g., Play All) and another layer with the vector or PNG named (=1)kv, which is the name of the EPS or PNG file.
The behavior is fine. The graphic moves to indicate which menu item is selected, the text is constant, never changes.
In Photoshop, the graphic looks fine but when I preview it in Encore it looks crappy and pixelated. What do I do?

Part of the problem is I have no idea what some of these terms mean ... "2-bit indexed", ... The first one might mean an object that has one color,
It is not the same as one color, and yes, it probably means more than any of us intend.  See  Encore help regarding button subpictures, in particular the part regarding using Photoshop to create button subpictures.
The latter includes "(Technically, the subpicture overlay is a two‑bit indexed image.)," but you don't need to understand the technical meaning (they don't explain it anyway).  You do need to understand the liimitations they explain there,  For example, under "solid colors only," they say "Elements on these layers must use solid colors and sharp edges. Use one solid color per layer. Do not use gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing on the subpicture layers. Color gradations are not possible in subpictures."
"sub-picture highlight" ... the second one is probably made up.
Heh, heh.  Searching that in Encore help (which I often find lacking) finds the page on Button Subpictures.  I agree that some of the terms, whether they are from the DVD specs or Sonic's applications (on which Encore is based), can make it difficult to look things up.
"vector layer".... I searched Photoshop help for "vector layer" and got nothing. There is such a thing as a vector mask on a layer but I have no clue what a vector layer is.
You're correct - vector mask.  Within a button group, the vector mask will be part of a layer, so I think of it as the button group "vector mask" layer.  That's part of why I pointed to using a library menu and editing in photoshop so you could compare what you have to what a template looks like.
Please suggest which Encore library menu I can try. I opened a couple and couldn't figure out how they worked.
In the General set, pick the Sunset menu.  Edit in Photoshop.  Expand the "(+) play movie" layer.  The "button vector mask" (the dark area) is in the layer called "button."  Notice that it does not have a (=1) or other indicator that it is a highlight.  In other words, it will just sit there, in whatever color is defined, and will not be a highlight.  If you put it in a layer that has one of the highlight indicators (the =1, =2 etc), it will then be subject to the subpicture highlight limitations.
You might try your graphic in such a non-subpicture layer, and compare its appearance to putting it in a subpicture layer.
Jeff Bellune's book (he's a moderator here) is still very applicable.  While some things have change, the basics haven't.
But, hey, Jeff.  Why haven't you updated your book yet?  Inquiring minds want to know!

  • Importing crisp photoshop graphics correctly! how? please help!

Can someone please give me a simple answer to how to import a graphic from photoshop without it looking like crap once it is in final cut. I am setting my sequence settings (frame size) to NTSC DV (3:2). frame size (720 x 480) - my photoshop graphic is 720 X 480 as well but looks horrible when imported and after rendered.
What is going on here? I just want to import a crisp high resolution graphic without spending 6 months figuring out what the correct settings etc are.....I need to get on editing this video...
Can anyone give me a simple explanation as to how to proceed correctly?
    thanks!
    -Peter

First off what bothers me or what I was worried about originally is that at one point my graphics looked fine and then after rendering they looked like crap. When I re - created my entire project this bad quality was an issue directly on import (I've tried so many settings I can't even remember how it looked good the first time).
Thanks for your response bit I still have a few questions for you so I'm clear....
When you say change my sequence to "DVCPRO50" - do you mean in the "compressor" area?
another words sequence menu / settings - then inside that window there is a compressor drop dowm menu....this is the only place I see the option for "DVCPRO50".
Also I have already created all my psds a certain pixel size...are you telling me
that I have to re-create every one of them from scratch at 720 X 534 then re-size?
This will mean a lot of work since I've allready created them in a different size document.
Also I've been saving as a "targa" as far as file type... Is that the best way to go?
And lastly, what is the best setting for exporting? It seems all the options I've tried
have been giving me less then satisfactory results... most quicktime exports look horrible,
and the only file type that looks somewhat ok is "divx" - but still my last attempt at that even looked less then perfect...... do all of these settings mean nothing if my render settings all-ready
mess up my file from the start?
if I do everything perfect from the beginning then what is my best export options?
Thanks in advance for any more help....
    -Peter

  • Using Photoshop images as menu tabs

I have created a design of several hands in Photoshop.  I would like to use each hand as a menu tab that will 1).  change color on rollover, 2).  show new graphics for subpages, and  3). link each to the respective pages.
Any suggestions on the best way to accomplish this?
Unfortunately, the INSERT IMAGE tab isn't working so I can't send image.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
You can use default menu or create manual.
    With Default Menu :
    - Change Menu type > All Pages
    - Select Individual Menu Item > Fill with image > Define states
    - Select individual sub menu item > Fill image > Define states
With Manual Menu , it would be similar steps with only difference that you would need to create the menu items and sub menu items , then link them to pages.
You can link them by selecting the pages to link from hyperlink drop down.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Can I open a CS6 Photoshop file in Adobe Photoshop Touch for Phone?

I am trying to rountrip a ps file to/from Adobe Photoshop Touch for Phone to/from CS6 Photoshop on a mac. Is it possible? It seems (so far) I can create a .psdx on the phone and edit on my desktop, but once editing in CS6 PS, I can't get that file back on the phone for editing. Any ideas... or is it a one way street from phone to desktop right now? thx!!!

    Hi there,
In general, the .psd format is fairly backwards compatible. To help get your files ready to be opened in CS3, follow this process:
    1) Go to Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling.
    2) In the menu, make sure Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility is set to always.
Just in case, you may also want to save your file as a .TIFF, which is a format that will also preserve your layers and is able to be opened in older versions.
Please let us know if you need any more information, and good luck with your project!

Fireworks does not operate or export in CMYK color space. It
    was
developed for screen images only, and operates and exports in
    RGB color
space. It is not recommended that you use it in preparation
    of images
for print. You mentioned that you don't like photoshop. You
    might like
    Illustrator better.

  • Photoshop elements 6 menu bar

how do i get the left side of my menu bar in photoshop elements 6, to show the edit, file, view, find, window and help buttons. Only the camera and little house show up. The only thing that shows is a tiny arrow which is barely visible. All was okay the first time I installed to another computer (which has since crashed). The reinstalling of photoshop the second time is causing the above problem.

Thankyou soooooooooo  much Kelly. What an easy fix for something that was driving me crazy. Again, THANKS.

If your on a windows system and talking about the menus in the organizer, then you probably need to set the dpi scaling as per the the instructions here:  http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/menus-missing-elements-8- 9.html

  • Graphics for dreamwaver

    Hi,
I am currently learning Dreamwaver and I would like to know what's the best and easiest adobe program to use to prepare graphics for my sites.
    Thanks.

My main reason for using PS over FW most of the time (not alaways) is that I have about $800 worth of filters and plugins that are not compatible with FW. Things like several Flaming Pear filters and Alien Skin's Eye Candy stuff.
Yep... that would be another reason for my not switching.  I have the Eye Candy plug in as well!  Have to see what the Flaming Pears are all about!    I also have a huge amount of investment in PhotoShop courses, NAPP membership, etc.  I guess I feel that there are so many effects that I can do with PhotoShop, that I love the application!  I can always take an image and re-optimize in FireWorks.
Which brings us back to the initial question... it is worth the investment in the Web suite if you are going to be doing Web design.  Then you can use which ever application does whichever job you need it to do.
I also highly recommend taking courses, if you want to become a Web designer.  I think I've seen Murray has mentioned that in previous posts.

  • How to increase the size of Photoshop Elements 8 MENU and PANEL fonts?

How do I increase the size of Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 MENU, PANEL and other fonts used in Photoshop Editor?
Does anyone know of registry fix or other solution?
    Thanks
    FYI:
I've increased windows XP display fonts to 140 dpi, only Photoshop Elements 8 fonts did NOT increase, such as menu, panel and drop down fonts -- they remain very small and almost unreadable.  All other programs menu fonts did increase.

I’m sure Adobe try to make their products as accessible as possible to all sections of the community although by its very nature certain adjustments to fine detail require the use of a mouse.
However where possible keyboard short cuts are provided, as an alternative to the drop down menus. For example to adjust levels rather than clicking Enhancements>>Lighting>>Levels you can simply press Ctr+L.
Importantly it’s possible to zoom in and out on any image in the Editor using Ctr plus or Ctr minus.
That's the only suggestion I can think of.

  • Setting Bridge CS5 to run Photoshop x32 for Tools

How can I set Bridge CS5 to call on the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 for commands from the Tools menu instead of the 64 bit version? I have it set to open files into the 32 bit version, this is just for the scripted actions in the Tools menu.

I have a question about this opening from bridge/ photoshop thing.
So let me get this straight, if I'm in bridge and I select an image it will open ACR in 32 bit mode. If that's true I can understand that. Here's the problem, how do I open ACR from photoshop with a raw image I have selected from photoshop, type in the whole file name and path by hand? Do I open bridge from photoshop and then select my image and that opens ACR in 64 bit method?
I just don't understand the method  or why it makes any real difference.

where do I download 64 bit photoshop cc for windows? I can only find 32 bit. I had 64 bit downloaded but it started to crash so I uninstalled and reinstalled from creative cloud. But it only downloaded 32 bit and nowhere is there the option for 64 bit.

Both should have been installed at the same time. (You should also have a menu item for both listed under your Start menu if using Windows 7 or Apps under Start in Windows 8.)

  • Copy Paste Photoshop CC for Mac

I am experiencing a major problem and have searched everywhere online for a solution.  I am using the latest and greatest Photoshop CC for my MacBook Pro.  I have the most recent OS installed also.  My copy/paste function in PS is not working.  When I select all and copy a picture and try to paste it onto another picture, it does not paste what was copied, it makes a duplicate layer of the current photo.  I have used "Command C, Command V" to do this and have also tried from the menu bar, Edit, Paste, etc.  No matter what photo is open, I cannot paste anything to it.  I have tried "Edit, Purge, Clipboard" several times and this does nothing.  Copy and paste works fine in other programs, just not in PS.  Help!  Feedback is much appreciated, please and thank you!

Please provide EXACT version numbers of both.  Many of us are very reluctant to attempt to answer questions based on such vague information because it later turns out the poster was wrong about what constitutes "the latest".
